Tim Cook is not stepping down as Apple CEO anytime soon. Despite a recent report from the Financial Times claiming Cook may exit between January and June 2026, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has called the timeline premature and inaccurate.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said he would be “shocked” if Cook leaves by mid-2026. He noted that there are currently no internal signs suggesting a leadership transition is about to happen. Cook, who turned 65 this month, remains actively involved in Apple’s product roadmap, including its upcoming AI push.

Gurman confirmed that Apple has been planning for Cook’s eventual departure. John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, remains the top internal candidate to succeed Cook. Ternus leads development for iPhone, Mac, and Vision Pro and has taken on more responsibilities in recent months.

The Financial Times report claimed that Apple could announce Cook’s exit plan before WWDC 2026 to ensure a smooth handoff. Gurman disagreed, stating that the story did not come from sources with direct knowledge and was not part of any internal communication strategy. He also dismissed theories that the story was a deliberate leak to test public reaction.

Gurman also said that given Apple’s tremendous success under Cook, he has earned the right to decide his own future. After stepping down, Cook is expected to remain as Chairman of the board, allowing him to influence Apple’s direction for years to come.

Cook has led Apple since 2011, following the death of Steve Jobs. Under his leadership, Apple became the first $3 trillion company and launched major products including the Apple Watch, AirPods, M-series Macs, and Vision Pro.

As it does every year, Apple released its proxy statement to investors on Thursday, detailing executives’ pay alongside other information. And, as expected, the statement also reveals CEO Tim Cook’s compensation for 2023. 

Turns out, Tim Cook earned $63.2 million from Apple in 2023. This sum exceeds his initial target of $49 million earnings in 2023 by 28%. This comes after a year where he exceeded his initial $84 million target by a significant margin, ultimately receiving $99.4 million in 2022. 

The breakdown of Cook’s 2023 compensation shows a $3 million salary, $46.9 million in stock awards, $10.7 million in performance incentives, and $2.5 million in other compensations. While the sum is a 36% decrease compared to his 2022 earnings, Cook has still surpassed the lowered target set for 2023. 

Separately, as per the company’s 2017 policy requiring Cook’s use of a private jet for business and personal travel, Apple incurred $1,621,468 in personal air travel expenses for him in 2023. This is more than twofold increase compared to 2022. Additionally, Apple spent $820,309 on Cook’s personal security, calculated based on the incremental costs associated with dedicated security services.

The proxy statement also sheds light on the broader employee compensation picture at Apple. The median annual compensation for Apple employees in 2023 stood at $94,118. This translates to a staggering 672-to-1 pay ratio between Cook’s earnings and the median employee’s.

Beyond the CEO, the compensation details of other top executives were also revealed. Luca Maestri (Chief Financial Officer) earned $26.9 million, Kate Adams (General Counsel and Secretary) received $26.9 million, Deirdre O’Brien (Senior Vice President of Retail) received $26.9 million, and Jeff Williams (Chief Operating Officer) received $26.9 million.

The youngster is from the Maharashtra State and visited Lonavala, 50 miles (~80km) from Mumbai. He was out hiking on a rainy day with three of his friends. The incident happened on their way back when he slipped into a valley. He was saved by a tree and stone but suffered a fracture on his ankles. He was in a lot of pain and only had his Apple Watch with him.

Mertha was eventually rescued by his friends and others around the scene. The teenager was hospitalized and went through a rehabilitation process that sees him still using a walking stick. Apple CEO Tim Cook, in an email response, praised Mertha for sharing his story.

This statement is in line with recent rumors that have hinted at Apple working on its first AR/VR mixed reality headset. Apple CEO Tim Cook has “secretly” signed an agreement worth more than $275 billion with Chinese officials, according to a new report from The Information. It adds that Apple is promising to help develop China’s economy and technological capabilities.

The five-year agreement was made when Tim Cook visited China in 2016 to quash a host of regulatory actions against the company. For its claims, the report is citing interviews and internal Apple documents.

The multibillion-dollar agreement included quashing of a number of regulatory actions against the company with exemptions and enabling access to the Chinese market, in return for significant investments, business deals, and worker training in the country.

Tim Cook personally forged a five-year agreement with the Chinese government during a series of in-person visits. Apparently, several Apple executives were concerned about bad publicity in China and the company’s poor relationship with Chinese officials, who believed that Apple was not contributing enough to the local economy.

It is alleged that Tim Cook “personally lobbied officials” in China over threats made against Apple Pay, iCloud, and the App Store. Attempting to mollify authorities, Apple announced investment of $1 billion in Didi Chuxing. Shortly after, Tim Cook, along with Apple COO Jeff Williams, and government affairs head Lisa Jackson met senior government officials in Zhongnanhai, the central headquarters of the Communist Party of China.

The company has also promised to invest “many billions of dollars more” than its current expenditure in China, including on new retail stores, research and development facilities, and renewable energy projects.

Apple today announced with a press release that it has more than doubled the number of suppliers committed to using 100 percent clean energy over the last year, boosting progress towards its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its products as well as supply chain by 2030.

In total, 175 Apple suppliers will switch to clean and renewable energy. This will bring over 9 gigawatts of clean energy online throughout the world. Over 18 million metric tonnes of CO2e will be avoided annually as a result of these initiatives, which is the equivalent of removing over 4 million cars from the road every year.

The company added 10 new projects for its first-of-a-kind Power for Impact initiative to bring clean energy solutions to communities around the world. These projects are designed to provide renewable power to under-resourced communities while supporting economic growth and social impact.

Android has several advantages compared to iOS when it comes to users having control over the device. One of the biggest benefits of Android is that it allows users to download apps from several different sources, including support for the side-loading of apps.

However, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, has spoken out against the side-loading of applications. Answering the question about side-loading apps on iPhone, he said: “That [side-loading – ed] would destroy the security of the iPhone and a lot of the privacy initiatives that we built into the App Store, where we have privacy nutrition labels and app tracking transparency, where it forces people to get permission to track across apps.”

He added that Android has 47 times more malware than iOS but has not cited a source for this data. A report from Nokia in 2019 had claimed that Android was responsible for about 47% of the detected malware compared to 1% for iPhone. But the very next year, malware for Android fell to 26.6% and iPhones rose to 1.7%.

While Tim Cook is criticizing the practice of app side-loading, Apple itself allows this if the user has a developer account. Also, another report from Washington Post claims that almost 2% of App Store’s top 1,000 grossing apps were scams with over 120 million customers downloading those apps.

It’s noteworthy that Android doesn’t allow users to side-load apps or install apps outside of Play Store by default and user needs to give permission before installing an application from somewhere else. Also, Android has over 70 percent of the global mobile operating system market share and malicious actors tend to target the most popular platforms.

The assembly of the face shield requires just two minutes and has been sourced from both the US and China. Apple is planning on shipping more than one million of these by the end of this week, and further million by the next week. As of right now, the face shields are available only in the US, but the company has plans on expanding and supplying other critical regions soon. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, one of the world’s largest technology company, is optimistic about the company not facing the heat amid the US-China trade war. He says that so far, Apple products have managed to escape the fallout from President Donald Trump’s escalating trade war with China, and he’s optimistic it will stay that way.

His remark comes after Beijing recently said that it would impose a 25 percent tariff on U.S. goods in retaliation for Trump’s plan to increase tariffs on goods imported from China. As per the analysts, the cost of iPhones could increase as much as 14 percent as a result, but that hasn’t happened yet, said Tim Cook.

In an interview with CBS News, Tim Cook said that “the Chinese have not targeted Apple at all, and I don’t anticipate that happening, to be honest.” However, he conceded that a tariff on the iPhone would hurt sales of the smartphone.

He added, “I’m hoping that doesn’t happen. The truth is, the iPhone is made everywhere. It’s made everywhere. And so, a tariff on the iPhone would hurt all of those countries, but the one that would be hurt the most is this one.”

The Chinese tariffs were announced in retaliation for Trump promising to increase tariffs from 10 percent to 25 percent on roughly $200 billion worth of imports from China. Many in the technology and telecom sectors have warned that this will hurt American consumers and businesses.
