Though it’s not as popular as the other two, we do see its benchmarks crop up once in a while and its benchmark listing usually gets attention among the western media especially when its of an unannounced model.

Despite being unpopular outside of China, the benchmark tool has a database of all the major smartphones released in the past one year, including the OnePlus 5, Nubia Z17, Mate 10 models and so on. So, when the benchmark app released its top 10 list of smartphones of 2017, it was worth checking who came out on top.

We all keep a close watch on AnTuTu’s top smartphones and unsurprisingly, the OnePlus 5 and the Galaxy Note 8 are the top two smartphones on the benchmarking app. The AnTuTu rankings are yet to be updated to include recent models and it seems that the ranking hasn’t been refreshed since October 2017.

However, in case of Master Lu’s top 10 smartphones list, there are quite a few recent models including the recent Mate 10 models. The Nubia Z17, though old, is right on top and followed by the Mate 10 Pro and the HTC U11. The OnePlus 5T model is way behind, at the eight spot. The Galaxy Note 8 is also down at the sixth spot, preceded by Google’s Pixel XL 2. Eight out of the 10 models were powered by Snapdragon 835, while Kirin 970 powered flagships occupied two spots in the list.

It’s worth mentioning that the first two scores are very close. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro (167467) with Kirin 970 scores almost as much as the Nubia Z17 (167988) powered by Snapdragon 835. So it looks like Master Lu’s benchmark puts Kirin 970 very close to SD835 in terms of performance.

If you are planning to shop for a new budget smartphone, you just might want to take a look at this list because it might be helpful.

The list shows the Lenovo ZUK Z2 still topping the chart. That really isn’t surprising as The ZUK Z2 offers great value for just 1190 yuan ($171) for the 3GB + 32GB version. The device packs a Snapdragon 820 flagship chip and a decent 3500mAh battery, a 5-inch IPS display with FHD resolution. The device also packs a 13MP main camera and features support for fingerprint recognition.

Next in line is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which packs a 2GB + 16GB combo and is priced at just 799 yuan ($115). The Xiaomi Mi 4C is another decent buy at just 699 yuan ($100). Another Xiaomi smartphone makes it into the top four this December priced at 899 yuan ($129). Of the three Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi Note 4 released mid-2016 is the one with the highest performance, though.

The rest of the list is made up of the LeEco Le 2 999 yuan ($144), Le Pro 3 with a price tag of 1799 yuan ($259) and then another LeEco smartphone makes the cut – the Le Max 2 with a 1599 yuan ($230) price tag. The Le Pro 3 is the latest and most powerful in terms of performance among the three LeEco smartphones on the list. The 360 N4 with a price tag of 999 yuan ($144) as well as the Meizu Metal – 699 yuan ($100) and Xiaomi Mi 5S – 1899 yuan ($273) completes the list.

Just so we’d be clear, AnTuTu based its top 10 ranking on just the device’s AnTuTu benchmark data and the price. Other indices like design, quality of build and photo quality, and other physical factors were not considered.

This is a list released by the popular benchmarking app AnTuTu. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of Snapdragon 820 powered smartphones. Another thing to note is that 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM have become the standard among flagships this year. While this configuration would have sounded a lot last year, this year, it looks like there could be even 8GB RAM phones! But more on that later. In this article, let’s look at the top 10 list!

On top is the mighty OnePlus 3 flagship powered by Snapdragon 820, 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone managed to reach an average score of 140,288, which is the best average scores we have seen till date on AnTuTu. The phone manages to reach this level because the Snapdragon 820 chip inside is not throttled, unlike some other flagship phones, which unleashes its full potential. So, despite entering the market late June, the phone has topped the AnTuTu benchmark’s top 10 list.

Next up is another Chinese smartphone, the Vivo XPlay 5 Elite edition which was also the world’s first 6GB RAM phone. The phone managed to score 138,706 points on average on the benchmarking website, thanks to its top-end specs that include Snapdragon 820 and 128GB ROM. Another thing to note here is that it is also the first Chinese dual curved display smartphone.

Next up is the Le Max 2, another Snapdragon 820 + 6GB + 64GB ROM phone. Well, now there’s a 128GB ROM model as well. This particular device managed to score 138,026 on an average, which is pretty good and just below the XPlay 5 Elite model. In the fourth and the fifth position are two more Chinese flagships namely the ZUK Z2 Pro and Xiaomi Mi5. In all, there are seven Chinese models (including Axon 7 and ZUK Z2) in the top 10 list which clearly shows the dominance of these phones in the first half of 2016. Non-

Non-Chinese phones that made it to this list include the Galaxy S7 Edge, iPhone SE and the iPhone 6S.

So, these were the top 10 smartphones of the first half of 2016! These scores were calculated from the data collected from January 1 to June 30 and with at least 2000 scores registered on the app (v6.0) for each model.

We have reviewed almost all of these smartphones. You can check out each model’s review from the links above.

However, this year, with more and more Chinese smartphone manufacturers releasing powerful handsets, there has been a slight reshuffle in the list. The new AnTuTu top 10 performance smartphone list for Q1 2016 contains 5 Chinese flagships. Not surprising since we have seen some powerhouses from Chinese handset makers in the past few months.

Last year, since AnTuTu went cross platform, iPhone 6S Plus pretty much dominated with the Apple A9 underneath. But now, things have reshuffled, with Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship on top with a score of 136,875. In case you are wondering, AnTuTu has taken the average score of a device, taking into consideration at least 500 different data samples. This statistic is for the first quarter of 2016, starting from Jan 1 to March 31.

After the Xiaomi Mi 5, there’s the Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge. One thing to note here is that Galaxy S7 could have beaten Mi 5, if it was not using 2K display which does take a toll on the scores. Next up was iPhone 6S, with a score very close to the S7. After these three phones, comes the Huawei Mate 8. But there’s a difference of 42K points between the third and the fourth place. Still, seeing Kirin 950 in the list is pretty impressive and shows how much the Kirin family has evolved in the past few years.

Rest of the places are taken by last year’s models, except for Vivo XPlay 5 Standard edition with Snapdragon 652. Now, you must be wondering why the XPlay 5 Elite version didn’t make it to this list, especially considering it comes with Snapdragon 820 and a whopping 6GB of RAM. AnTuTu has given an explanation for this as it says that only 18 data items were available for the device, which was too low. So, although the phone’s average comes out close to 130298, it wasn’t included in the list. Maybe in the Q2 results, we will see this powerhouse included.

So, do you think this list will change in Q2 2016? Which upcoming phone are you most excited about?
