As per a new report from SensorTower, Honor of Kings from Tencent brought in a total close to 240 million US Dollars in user spending in September 2020. This does not include third party Android stores and showcases a significant growth of 87 percent from September 2019. China was the dominating market with a 96 percent share in the overall revenue within the game, followed by Taiwan with just 1.5 percent and Thailand with 1.2 percent revenue share.

The “Top Mobile Games by Worldwide Revenue for September 2020” list also includes known names like PUBG Mobile, that arrives second in both overall and iOS stores, while Coin Master came in third. Notably, PUBG Mobile didn’t make the top 10 list in Google Play revenue list, while Coin Master didn’t make the cut either but for the iOS App Store revenue rankings.

Previously, we had reported on the explosive rise and popularity of Genshin Impact, which became the second highest grossing game for a week, bringing in 60 million US Dollars, but it did not make an appearance on the list. Back in August, the rankings for the highest grossing video game application had PUBG Mobile take the top spot for the month, but Honor of Kings has reclaimed its title.

The newly released mobile RPG video game, Genshin Impact, has seen great success since its launch. The game was released by Chinese publisher miHoYo and has generated over $60 million in player spending in both the App Store and Google Play combined within the first week of its official launch.

According to a SensorTower report, the video game is currently the world’s second highest grossing title, just behind Honor of Kings from Tencent Games and above PUBG Mobile. As per the report, it is also the highest earning mobile game in the RPG genre in the world this week and ranks above other known titles like Monster Strike and Fate/Grand Order, which arrive in second and third places respectively.

Genshin Impact has seen great success across the globe, especially in China, where the Chinese version of the game brought in close to $25 million in player spending so far on Apple’s App Store alone, which is close to 42 percent of its total revenue. This figure doesn’t include any other third party app stores. While the game has become popular globally, its primary market is still its home country, with $35 million or about 58 percent of its revenue coming from China alone.

At the moment, Genshin Impact is also the third highest grossing mobile game title in China, during its launch week. Similarly, it also ranked third in Japan and fifth in the US in terms of revenue generating mobile games. Furthermore, the App Store brought in the majority of the revenue, accounting for $42 million or 70 percent of the total revenue. On the other hand, Google Play brought in just $17.7 or about 30 percent of the total revenue.

Life in China is gradually returning back to normal but the past few months have been a tough one for the country due to the Coronavirus epidemic. The government had to effect a lockdown which made it impossible for people to move freely and that was highly helpful in curbing the spread. Online gaming and TV came to the rescue of Chinese families who had to adjust their routine in the face of the outbreak and quarantine efforts. That has translated to huge revenue for the game developers, as per a report by Sensor Tower. Although the report is a compilation of data on ap stores globally, most of the revenue came from China.

Data collated by the firm shows that in February 2020, Tencent’s “PUBG Mobile” and “Peace Elite” attracted more than US $191 million in revenue globally, five times that of the same period last year. The two games were ranked first in the global mobile game bestseller list. 71% of the revenue came from the Chinese market while the US market accounted for just 7.3%.

King of Glory and its overseas edition ranked second with $121 million in revenue. The Chinese version contributed 92.6% of revenue, followed by the Thai version “Arena of Valor” which contributed 3.7%.

Mixi’s “Monster Strike” is ranked as the third highest-grossing game which AFK Arena is ranked at the fourth position. DBZ Dokkan Battle came in at the fifth spot and Candy Crush Saga is ranked sixth.

The rest of the top 10 list is occupied by Rise of Kingdoms in number seven spot, Gardenscapes ranked eighth, Coin Mast in ninth position and Pokemon Go complete the top 10.
