This change resulted in a notable 70 per cent reduction in spam messages within a week. Prior to this, sending DMs to non-followers was limited to Blue subscribers only.

Critics argue that while the motive to reduce DM spam is understandable, the way Twitter has presented the update indicates a clear intention to encourage unverified users to opt for the paid Blue membership. The announcement explicitly urges users to “subscribe today to send more messages” and conveniently provides a link to the subscription page, fueling the perception of prioritizing profit over user satisfaction.

However, meeting the requirements to receive transfers from the Musk-owned social media company is no easy feat. To be eligible for the revenue-sharing system, users must be Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations subscribers and have garnered at least five million post impressions in each of the past three months. They also need to pass a human review and comply with Twitter’s Creator Subscriptions policies. Eligible users will be paid via a Stripe account. Twitter will soon introduce an application process accessible through the Monetization section in account settings.

Previously, the character limit for tweets was merely 280. This feature also applies to quote tweets and replies, and users can also add media to their longer posts.

While only Blue subscribers can take advantage of this new feature, all users can still read these longer tweets. On the timeline, only the first 280 characters will be visible, but users can easily click on “Show more” to access the entire tweet. This change could encourage more users to opt for the Twitter Blue subscription, and may also discourage the use of threads for longer content. However, this is merely a speculation, since the paywall behind which Twitter Blue is present is quite steep, as discussed later in this article.

Twitter is also giving Blue subscribers a break from excessive ads, with plans to reduce the number of advertisements by almost 50 percent. This move is in line with Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s vision for a costlier, ad-free subscription plan. Additionally, Twitter Blue has introduced the ability to post 60-minute-long videos, catering to bloggers and video content creators.

Twitter Blue is currently purchasable in 15 markets. The most recent inclusions in this list are India, Brazil, and Indonesia. However, at a monthly cost of INR 650 ($7.87) in India, it is even more expensive than other media subscription services like YouTube Premium, Spotify, and Apple Music, which are all priced under $4 (INR 330). The cost of Twitter Blue is on par with Netflix’s highest tier plan, which offers 4K quality on four screens.

But with the latest update, the perks will also grow to include “prioritized rankings in conversations.”

This means that your replies will be ranked higher and be made more visible in tweets. Furthermore, the company is also letting users now upload up to 60 minute long videos as well. Both of these features don’t arrive as a surprise since they were already promised by Elon Musk last month when he stated that Blue subscribers that pay 8 US Dollars each month will get “priority in replies, mentions & search” alongside being able to post hour long videos.

As per official notes from Twitter support, the priority rankings will also “help lower the visibility of scams, spam, and bots.” Although, it is still unclear if the Blue subscribers will be on the top of the list on every tweet replies. The new video upload is also only being offered to web users. In other words, the 10 minute rule for video uploads still applies to iOS and Android useres on mobile devices.

Twitter Blue, the subscription service offering the now-controversial blue checkmark, will relaunch on Monday with a “vetting process” designed to prevent impersonations on the site. The checkmark and other features will cost $8 a month via the web and $11 per month via iOS.

Twitter Blue relaunching on Monday starting on $8 a month

Twitter tweeted on Saturday that subscribers to Twitter Blue will now receive the blue checkmark, but only after their account has been reviewed. The company said in a tweet thread: “When you subscribe you’ll get Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (after your account has been reviewed).”

It is not clear what the account review process will involve, but an image included in the thread mentions the need for a “verified phone number”. This suggests that the review process will involve verifying the user’s identity in some way, although it is not yet clear what form this verification will take.

The previous pay-for-verification setup, introduced by Twitter owner Elon Musk, had critics arguing that the blue checkmark had become meaningless. Traditionally, the verification process involved submitting a government-issued ID and providing evidence that the user was a “prominently recognized individual”.

Twitter Blue subscribers who already signed up via iOS for the earlier $8 a month price will receive a notification about the new $11 monthly iOS cost and can choose to subscribe via the web instead, at the $8 rate, according to Twitter product lead Esther Crawford. Crawford also confirmed that the iOS and web versions would offer the same features, and that Android users can purchase on the web and use Twitter Blue on their devices.

From the company’s official blog post, “Edit Tweet” is a feature that lets users make changes to their Tweet after it’s been published. The feature can be useful for situations like fixing typos and adding missed hashtags without having to delete the entire Tweet or Twitter thread.

Currently, the “Edit Tweet” is in an internal testing phase on the Twitter platform, whereby only a selected group of Twitter users will enjoy the feature. Twitter states that internal testing helps the development team to incorporate feedback while identifying and resolving potential issues. This includes how people might misuse the “Edit Tweet” feature.

However, Twitter did announce that the company has plans to bring “Edit Tweet” to all of its paying Twitter Blue subscribers by the end of this month. As part of their subscription, they receive early access to features and help Twitter to test them before the features arrive on the social media platform.

As for how Edit Tweet will work, Twitter states the feature mechanics as follows:
