The POCO X6 series of smartphones are set to launch in India soon. The devices were spotted in recent teasers, which confirms some of their specifications. Now, a fresh leak has revealed the design and specs of the X6 5G model via an unboxing video.

POCO X6 5G Unboxing

The Chinese smartphone maker’s upcoming X6 5G model was spotted in a new leak that was shared by known tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore. In a tweet, the specs of the smartphone were listed with a video showcasing its design. Looking at the design first, we can see the POCO X6 5G in a black and white variant with the retail box also housing a protective cover. The rear features a triple camera setup and we can also see a USB Type C port, speaker grille, primary microphone, and SIM card tray at the bottom.

The tipster adds that the POCO X6 5G sports a tall 6.67-inch AMOLED display that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the smartphone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC that is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. A large 5,100mAh battery pack, which supports 67W fast charging. The device runs on Android 13 OS based MIUI 14 custom skin out of the box.

The rear features a 64-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the other hand, the front houses a 16-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. For those unaware, the POCO X6 5G and X6 Pro 5G models will be launched in India and globally on 11th January 2024.

Design & Build

Sporting a 6.55-inch curved display, the Edge 40 Neo houses a fingerprint scanner beneath it, complemented by a centrally positioned 32MP selfie camera. The phone feels premium, with a vegan leather back offering both aesthetics and a comfortable grip.

The buttons have a tactile feel, and the fingerprint scanner works efficiently. The haptic feedback is also impressive. The rear showcases a dual-camera setup: a 50MP primary and a 13MP ultrawide, alongside an LED flash.

The device also features an IP68 rating which means it is water-resistant up to a depth of 1.5 meters in fresh water for a duration of up to 30 minutes, and it also offers dust protection. According to Motorola, it is the lightest IP68 smartphone yet.

Display

The device features a 6.55-inch Full HD+ 10-bit pOLED curved display with a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 360Hz touch sampling rate, and a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels.

It offers DCI-P3 coverage and reaches a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. The screen is sharp and vibrant, perfect for enjoying media, even in outdoor lighting. The edge display adds a unique touch that catches the eye.

Hardware & Performance

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo runs on the Dimensity 7030 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. It comes preloaded with Android 13.

In daily use, the device performs smoothly, handling popular games like BGMI, Call of Duty, and Real Racing with ease. However, extended gaming sessions may lead to slight heating, though not to a concerning degree.

Geekbench 6 scores indicate solid performance, with 1060 in single-core and 2500 in multi-core.

Camera

The device’s rear camera setup comprises a 50MP primary lens with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide lens with a 120° field of view. The 32MP front-facing camera handles selfies.

The back camera performs decently in good lighting but faces challenges in low light, as does the selfie camera. The front camera does well in favorable lighting conditions but loses detail in low light. These issues appear to be related to optimization and could potentially be resolved with software updates by Moto.

Software Experience

Motorola’s commitment to a clean software experience continues with the Edge 40 Neo, which runs on Android 13 out of the box. If you love stock Android, you will love this phone for sure.

Battery Life

The device is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 68W fast charging. According to Motorola, the included 68W power adapter can charge the 5,000 mAh battery from empty to 50% in just 15 minutes. So far, in initial testing, the battery has performed admirably, even when using the device at a 144Hz refresh rate. However, further testing is needed for a proper review.

Sound

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo features stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support, delivering loud and punchy sound quality.

Pricing and Colors

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is available in PANTONE Black Beauty, PANTONE Soothing Sea, and PANTONE Caneel Bay colors. It is currently available in India through Flipkart at a price point of Rs. 20,999 (limited period price).

With the Google launch event set for October 6, one only has to wait two days for the announcement of the highly anticipated Pixel 7 series and even the Pixel Watch. But prior to the official announcement, a video of the smartwatch being unboxed has surfaced online.

The unboxing was shared on the popular platform, Reddit. It was shared by a user with the handle “Suckmyn00dle.” This Redditor apparently managed to get his hands on a Pixel Watch before the smartwatch starts its commercial shipment. So now, we have an unofficial but complete look at the upcoming wearable ahead of the Made by Google event later this week.

Looking at the online post, the Redditor stated that he did unbox the smartwatch but did not turn it on as he didn’t want to get caught. In other words, it is clear that the user is not supposed to have the Pixel Watch, although, we have no idea how he got his hands on the new device. Notably, he also took pictures of the smartwatch with his Pixel 6 smartphone. During the unboxing, he noted that the retail box carries the Pixel Watch, an Active band, and the USB type C magnetic charge case.

Furthermore, the small band fits wrists around 130 to 175mm while the large band is compatible with wrists that measure around 165 and 210mm. The Pixel Watch model that was unboxed was the “Polished Silver Stainless Steel” variant with the “Charcoal Active band.” The box also states that the Pixel Watch supports WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS. This new smartwatch will also run on Wear OS 3.5 and sports a 1.18 inch display and is powered by an Exynos 9118 chip.

The highly anticipated Nothing Phone (1) launch is almost here. However, prior to the official announcement, a new leak has given us a closer look at its unboxing experience, revealing some interesting details.

The leaked image for the unboxing was shared on Twitter by DahodianTechie. Looking at the image shared on the tweet, the company plans on offering the smartphone with a transparent protective cover, which we had also previously reported on. Although the previous leak was for a translucent case, so the brand might ship the clear care with the white color model and the smoked one with the black color variant.

Notably, the Nothing Phone (1) is confirmed to ship without a charger in the retail box. The reason for this would likely be environmental claims since the plastic used on the device is recycled, which is the same as its aluminum frame. Furthermore, the unboxing image leak also does not showcase a charger either. For those unaware, the Phone (1) is a mid range handset that has garnered a lot of hype ahead of its launch.

It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC and support 33W fast charging. The rear is set to feature a dual camera setup, consisting of a 50 megapixel primary sensor and an ultra wide angle lens. However, its rear Glyph LED lighting is undoubtedly one of its most interesting features. The South Korean tech giant had recently broken another record, where its Galaxy S22 series became the most pre-booked Samsung device with over 100,000 orders in just 72 hours. Nubia has been teasing the upcoming Red Magic 6S Pro a lot over the last couple of days. Its launch is set for next week (on September 6) and we have seen glimpses of the device in a recent video teaser as well. Now, a new unboxing video has revealed the design of the smartphone and also revealed some specifications as well.

In a new video from Zollotech, the Tech YouTuber shared a full unboxing video of the Red Magic 6S Pro that showcased the device in all its glory. Zollotech also went as far as to setup the smartphone while also offering some of his own views of the new handset. While the pricing has yet to be revealed, the YouTuber revealed that the 6S Pro will launch in multiple storage variants, which includes a “Cyborg 12GB RAM + 128GB Storage,” “Cyborg 16GB RAM + 256GB Storage,” and a “Ghost 16GB RAM + 256GB Storage” variants.

This is somewhat in line with our previous reports, although, the device was expected to also arrive in an 8GB RAM and go up to 512GB for storage. In the box, we can see the usual charging cable and brick. However, the most interesting aspect of the unboxing was the design. While the Chinese smartphone maker has teased a transparent rear panel for the device in teaser image posters and videos, this variant of the smartphone has an opaque and glossy back. So, the transparent version might be exclusive to a high end storage model or a special edition.

The version the YouTuber unboxed featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ along with 128GB of storage. It sports a 6.8 inch AMOLED display that has a FHD+ resolution with 165Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 700 nits. The front panel also houses an in display fingerprint reader as well. On the rear, the 6S Pro features a triple camera setup with a 64 megapixel primary camera, paired with an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and another 2 megapixel sensor. As per Zollotech, the phone is powered by a massive 5,050mAh battery pack that support 120W air cooled fast charging.

Notably, the video clearly showcases the gaming mode of the device that lets users customize various options regarding the smartphone. This includes the touch sampling rate, refresh rate, turning the turbo fan on and off, boost performance, and much more. He also noted that the phone’s rear panel did get warm after playing Real Racing 3 and COD: Mobile, although, this was with the fan off. Zollotech found the camera decent and even did a camera and audio test as well. The first unboxing videos for the Apple iPhone 12 series have started surfacing. The videos arrive from multiple sources that were one of the early receivers of iPhone 12 shipments, which are ahead of its coming Friday public launch.

The new unboxing videos offer us a closer look at the latest iPhone generation in multiple color variants, which includes the iPhone 12 Pro in graphite and iPhone 12 in blue, with one of the first being shared on Twitter by DuanRui. Looking at the video, the iPhones built with a stainless steel design that arrives alongside a paper screen protector instead of the plastic screen protectors that the previous generations had sported out of the box.

After MWC 2020 getting cancelled, Huawei decided to go ahead with its planned launch event but instead of having a physical event, the Chinese giant organised a Virtual Press Event to launch its new devices.

Among many devices launched during the event, one of them was Huawei Mate Xs — second foldable smartphone from the company and an upgraded variant of its first such device, Huawei Mate X.

Compared to the usual retail box that comes with the smartphone, the box that Huawei is offering with the Mate Xs seems a bit different. Here’s the unboxing experience of the phone detailed.

The Huawei Mate Xs comes in a big square-shared Black colored box which can be opened through a magnetic flap. When opened, you are presented with the Mate Xs foldable smartphone in an unfolded position, wrapped in a plastic sheet.

Removing that layer from the box presents three compartments that houses different accessories that the Chinese giant offers, which includes a plastic protective case or frame, a charger, data cable, collar clip, and earphones.

Coming to the smartphone, in an unfolded mode, the Huawei Mate Xs has a thin 8-inch display with a thickness of just 5.4mm. When closed, the phone offers 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch displays along with a comfortable grip to hold the device on hand.

Similar to its predecessor, the camera module has been placed on the grip-bar. The four camera sensors are placed vertically along with an LED flash from the top of the grip bar while there’s Huawei branding at the lower side. At the bottom, there’s a USB Type-C port for charging the smartphone.

The Huawei Mate Xs comes with some improvements over its predecessor. The device features an upgraded hinge structurer and an enhanced cooling system and more importantly, comes powered by the latest Kirin 990 5G chipset.

The Mate Xs possesses a dual layer structure over the 8-inch foldable OLED display that offers a screen resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels. The frontal 6.6-inch screen offers an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and the screen portion on the rear, a 6.38-inch display offers a tall aspect ratio of 25:9.

The camera setup of the device includes a 40-megapixel main lens, an 8-meapixel telephoto shooter with OIS, 16-megapixel ultrawide lens and a ToF sensor. It does not feature a front-facing camera as the main camera module works as the front-facing module  as well with the rear screen viewfinder for shooting selfies.

Along with the Huawei’s own Kirin 990 5G chipset, the device comes packed with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The smartphone runs the latest Android 10 operating system out-of-the-box with EMUI 10 user interface and Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead of Google’s services. It comes powered by a 4,500mAh battery which also supports 55W fast charging technology.

The Huawei Mate Xs will be available for purchase in the Chinese market from March 5th for a price of 16,999 yuan, which roughly converts to $2,424 — same pricing as its predecessor, Huawei Mate X.

In the video, you can see the benchmark tests performed. In the CPU-Z test, the N4100 CPU scores a single-thread score of 189.0 and a multi-thread score of 753.7. In the GeekBench 4 test, it scored a single-core score of 1777 and a multi-core score of 5275.

Being preloaded with Windows 10 OS, the Hi10X can run office software and deal with multitasking efficiently. The N4100 comes with Intel’s UHD Graphics 600 GPU that can decode 4K video easily.

Lastly, the magnetic backlit keyboard with its full-sized keys in conjunction with Windows 10 allows you to be highly efficient when using it for office work. Elephone PX has finally hit the market after a long period that included a crowdfunding campaign cancellation and a product redesign. The new pop-up camera phone from Elephone appeared in the first unboxing and hands-on video a while back as we had only seen it in photos.

As you can see in the video, the device looks just beautiful and the Crystal Cream color is one of the best we’ve seen so far. The box includes the phone, a SIM ejector, a protective case, as well as a charger and charging cable. The pop-up camera means that the display is clean of any notch and offers an immersive full-display experience. As for the performance and build quality there isn’t much we can say by just seeing a video but it looks snappy and well-built.

Google won’t announce the Pixel 3 XL until October but when it does, the only thing we won’t already know by then will be the price. Over the past few weeks, the Pixel 3 XL has leaked in various forms from live shots to full unboxing videos and even camera comparisons with the Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Huawei P20 Pro. Now, a new unboxing video has surfaced online and it is a higher quality than the one that leaked weeks ago.

The video was posted by Russsian YouTube channel In Digi. The Pixel 3 XL comes in a white box devoid of any Pixel or Google branding. The version in the box is pure white with black front bezels.

Included in the box is a pair of wired earphones which have the same design as the wireless Pixel Earbuds from last year. There is a USB-C charging/data cable, a 3.5mm to USB-C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C dongle all in white included in the box. There is also a charging adapter in the box.

The Pixel 3 XL has a thick lower bezel which is home to one of the front-stereo stereo facing speakers. There are no bezels on the sides and at the top, but there is a large tub-like notch which houses the second speaker and two front-facing cameras.

Just like the Panda White Google Pixel 2 XL, the Pure White Pixel 3 XL has a colored power button but instead of orange like its predecessor’s, it is mint green. The volume rocker is also on the right directly below the power button.

Google hasn’t really changed the design on the back. The main change is that the whole of the back is now covered in glass, not just the top part where the camera and LED flash are located. This shouldn’t be surprising since the Pixel 3 XL supports wireless charging. However, the camera half has a different shade of white to give the phone that two-tone finish.

As we can see in the rest of the video, the Pixel 3 XL is big, and unless you have really large hands, using this device with one hand for more than a few minutes doesn’t look comfortable. The video also confirms the Google Pixel 3 XL is running Android 9 Pie out of the box and also shows off the camera prowess.

The Google Pixel 3 XL will come with a 6.71-inch QHD+ display, a Snapdragon 845 processor, and 4GB of RAM. It will also have a 3430mAh battery, and a single 12MP rear camera.

UNBOXING

The phone ships in a rather unusual for Xiaomi red box. Inside of it, you can find all the usual stuff, no extras included.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

As far as design goes, the Redmi Note 5a is kind of plain looking and it is very similar to the Redmi 4a. The phone is made entirely of plastic and while it does not look or feel premium, the build quality is excellent.

The 5.5” display sports only 72op resolution but it is still quite sharp for everyday use.

We do have an IR blaster, a notification LED light and 5MP selfie shooter but the buttons are not backlit.

There is no fingerprint scanner on this phone whereas the Prime model has this feature.

As for the camera, we have a 13MP shooter with a single LED flash.

The sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good and the loudspeaker is not bad at all for the price of the phone.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The hardware configuration is not really impressive on the Redmi Note 5a but this is what you have to expect at this price point.

The phone has a Snapdragon 425 chip, just 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. What is awesome, is that there is a dedicated microSD card slot along with a dual-SIM card tray. I think this should become a standard feature on each phone.

The gaming performance is pretty good overall. However, you should expect some skipped frames in some of the 3D games if you play them on the highest graphics settings.

BENCHMARKS

USER INTERFACE

My Redmi Note 5a shipped with the original Chinese ROM, meaning that I had to install Google Services myself but it takes just a minute to do that. MIUI 8.5 is based on Android 7.1 and if you used any Xiaomi phone before, you will feel right at home as nothing has really changed much. We have the same looks, features, customization options and little tweaks to make the phone look your own.

I’ve installed a lot of apps as usual and I found the phone to be snappy and responsive all the time and that’s the most important thing on any phone.

IMAGE QUALITY

The image quality is quite good considering the fact this is a $120 phone. However, even at this price point, I would love to see more detail and sharpness in the pictures.

The low-light camera performance is quite good but again, this is a budget phone camera after all.

The selfies look nice and clear, I don’t have many complaints here.

The 1080p video is above average as the footage could look sharper but that is the case with most of the phones in this price range.

The 1080p selfie video looks great. The sound recording quality could have been decent but there is a lot of background noise, which is caused by a poor implementation of noise reduction or other stuff.

CONNECTIVITY

As far as connectivity goes, I have no complaints.  Everything, including Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS works fine. Also, the call quality and signal reception are decent.

BATTERY LIFE

A 3080mAh battery performs very well, like on most of the Xiaomi phones. Depending on how you use the phone, you should expect to achieve 8 or 9 hours of screen-on time. Well, these were my results.

The phone supports Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0 technology but it ships just with a regular charger. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the device.

CONCLUSIONS

The Redmi Note 5a is another budget phone made Xiaomi. Again, it offers quite a lot of value for the price but honestly, I don’t see any significant upgrades over the last generation models.

I would love to see a slightly better camera and a fingerprint scanner even at this price point but overall,  I still think that the Xiaomi Note Redmi 5a is a solid phone for the price but you can also check out the older Xiaomi phones, as they are very similar to this one.

DESIGN AND FEATURES

Honestly, this thing doesn’t even look like a smartphone and it reminds me of a smartwatch… without a strap.

We have a 1.54” display, which does not sport the highest resolution but it is pretty good for a $28 device.

The phone takes 1 SIM card and 1 microSD card for storage expansion as the internal storage is just 128MB.

We have just a power button and non-backlit capacitive keys to control the device.

On the back, there is a heart rate monitor, which measures your heart rate pretty accurately. Not sure why I thought I needed to put it on my wrist as it works with the fingertip too.

USER INTERFACE

As for user interface, you have your basic phone features. You can call someone, write messages and so on.

The call quality is not very impressive but you can definitely make a clear conversation.

There are also some basic apps like calculator, calendar, stopwatch etc. Besides the heart rate monitor, you can track your fitness routines using the built-in pedometer, which is pretty accurate or use sedentary reminder to reminds you to move a little.

You can also connect the Vphone S8 to your phone using the FundoWear app to track your fitness routines in detail, receive most of the notifications, use this little device as a remote dialer or as a remote controller for your main phone’s camera.

BATTERY LIFE

As for battery life, the Vphone S8 will get you through the day if you use it quite intensively. You may get a few days out of it if you are a light user.

CONCLUSIONS

So, there you have it, the smallest smartphone in the world, that costs just $28.

It’s definitely not the smartest smartphone out there but it’s definitely fun to use it. Also, it comes with all the basic phone and fitness tracker features, and a simple user interface that does not lag.

The phone may come handy if you just need to use another SIM card for calls.

At the end of the day, the Vphone S8 is not something I  really need for everyday use but it’s definitely a fun little device that works quite well and it is actually very cheap for what it has to offer.

After reading about the official launch of Xiaomi’s Mi Robot Vacuum, we knew you’d be itching for some real images of the product.

The vacuum cleaner comes in white with the LDS sensors on the  top coated orange. Underneath the exterior is a NIDEC motor, an adjustable main brush and a plethora of sensors which includes a Laser Distance Sensor, a gyroscope, and a cliff sensor.

The in-built 5200mAh battery will suffice for a 250 square metre area or 2.5 hrs of cleaning time.

Xiaomi has put in 3 chips from Texas Instruments, Allwinner, and STMicroelectronics for processing of data.

Using the Mi Home App, you will be able to plan cleaning paths, and schedules, and monitor the cleaning process and stats of the vacuum cleaner. There is also an additional virtual wall similar to what iRobot offers. The Mi Robot Vacuum has a MRRP of $254 and the virtual wall sells for $6.

When it comes to the design, there is nothing spectacular going on here. We don’t have any premium materials like metal but the phone is well built and it is comfortable to hold it.

The 5” 720p display is not the best I’ve seen but it is really good for the phone this cheap. My advice would be to remove that cheap pre-installed screen protector, which distorts the view.

We have a just a 2MP selfie shooter and non-backlit capacitive keys. You have to know that there is no notification LED light and the buttons feel a bit cheap.

The backplate, which has a vinyl-like finish is  very nice to the touch and it does not attract fingerprints so easily. Also, it can be easily removed. Underneath it, you can find 2 SIM card slots and the microSD card slot.

As far as optics, we have an 8MP camera and a single LED flash.

The loudspeaker sits on the back. You can’t expect high-end sound quality out of it, but I would say this is best speaker on a $50 phone I’ve tested.

Overall, Oukitel C3 does not look or feel expensive or anything but it is well-made, looks decent and it does not seem to break anytime soon.

Oukitel C3 Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

For $50, you are getting a quad-core MTK6580A CPU with the clock speeds of up 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

While this spec-sheet will definitely not blow your socks off, you can still enjoy some 3D games.

Asphalt 8 runs fine on medium graphics with just a few skipped frames but no lag.

Oukitel C3 Review: USER INTERFACE

The phone ships with Android 6.0 out of the box and we have some redesigned icons and added features by Oukitel.

For example, there are plenty of gesture and motion controls. As usual, I use only a couple of them and they work fine.

Most importantly, the phone runs fast and fluid most of the time. Well, I had a little bit of stutter a couple of times but nothing major.

Oukitel C3 Review: IMAGE QUALITY

You can’t expect any stellar results from the camera on the phone this cheap. In short, the image quality is not impressive but some of the shots may be usable for social media. Same can be said about a selfie shooter.

As for connectivity, the GPS is not the most accurate I’ve tested but it is still usable. Also, the wifi works fine and the call quality is decent.

The phone sports a 2000mAh battery and it performs on the average. 3 hours of screen-on time was the most I could get out of this phone on a moderate use.

Oukitel C3 Review: CONCLUSIONS

So, there you have it, a $50 phone, Oukitel C3. This phone is designed for those who live on a very tight budget or for those, who just want a super cheap phone.

Sure, you can’t expect anything spectacular out of this phone. Well, cheap is cheap but Oukitel C3 is one of best $50 phones on the market. It has a decent design and display, a pretty good overall performance and some extra features in the user interface.

Obviously, both cameras do not impress and the battery life could be better.

At the end of the day, Oukitel C3 is not going to be your next flagship killer but it is well-worth a $50 price tag, despite a few shortcomings.

It is pretty cool that this cheap phone has a metal frame that goes all around the device, the buttons are tactile and the overall build quality is great.

The loudspeaker is not going to impress you much but it is actually not bad at all for a cheap phone and it easily rival some $100 devices.

The backplate can be removed and underneath it you can find a replaceable 2000mAh battery, 2 SIM card slots and the microSD card slot. Keep in mind that the phone does not support 4G network but the 3G signal reception is good and I didn’t have call quality issues.

The phone feels nice in the hand too. The only shortcomings would be non-backlit capacitive buttons and the lack of the notification LED light. Instead, you are getting a front firing LED flash for night selfies.

The phone has a 5” 720p display and it is probably the best we’ve seen on the $50 phone. It is sharp and vivid and you can’t ask more from a phone this cheap.

Blackview A8 Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The Blackview A8 is not going to be your next powerhouse device but the specs are pretty good for the price. It sports a quad-core 1.3GHz MTK6580 chip, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

This phone is definitely not for gamers but it is still possible to play games like Asphalt 8 on the lowest graphics settings.

The image quality is not really impressive but this is what you have to expect from a $50 phone. Still, you can get some okay looking daylight images that could be used for social media. However, don’t expect great results in low-light.

The 2000mAh battery will give you just around 3 hours of screen-on time on a mixed use, which is not very impressive.

Blackview A8 is a phone that has a great build quality and even metal frame in its construction and it costs just $50.

Also, it has decent HD display, the UI has some extra features and the phone is easily manageable in one hand.

However, you should expect some minor hiccups in the UI and the battery life could be better.

Still, the phone is a great offering for $50. In fact, it is one of the best we’ve tested in this price range of phones and it can be highly recommended for those who are on a very tight budget.

Once I first picked the phone up it was obvious that the device looks the iPhone 6s Plus. It is made of metal (except for the top and bottom parts for antennas) and the build quality is top-notch.

In fact, it is better made than the Meizu MX5 I have reviewed quite a while ago.

We have a 5.5″ 1080p display and the first impressions about it are nothing but positive.  It is sharp and crisp but it is a great panel overall.

We have a 5MP shooter along with a notification LED on the top.

On the bottom there is only a physical home button, which has a lot of features. First, it doubles as a fingerprint scanner and it is easy to setup, fast and accurate. However, it does not work straight from the standby mode, meaning that you have to wake the screen up with a click of a home or power button.

A really cool feature that I love about most of the Meizu phones is that the home button supports a simple tap function, e.g. you can simply tap it and it acts as a back button.

As for optics, we have a 13MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. Just below the camera you can find a dual-tone dual LED flash.

The phone’s thickness measures at 8.2mm but in the hand it actually feels a bit slimmer. We have the buttons on the right, which have a good tactile feedback and neither of them rattle or wobble.

Meizu decided to stick with the regular micro USB port.

Overall, my first impressions are positive. I really like the design and great build quality, the display is nice to look at the UI seems to be performing fast.

The phone ships with all the usual stuff you would expect to come with any smartphone. The extras include the pair of earphones and a soft TPU case to protect your phone.

DESIGN and FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The phone sports a 5.5″ 720p display, which is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The first impressions of it are that is quite sharp, bright and vivid.

The backplate is made of textured vinyl-like plastic and it can be easily removed.

Under the hoood we have a 3500mAh battery, two SIM card slots and the microSD card slot for storage expansion. It will be interesting to see how the battery performs in real life.

The phone has a metal frame on the sides of the device, which adds a bit of a premium look and feel. However, top and bottom parts are made of plastic. We have a power button on the right and volume keys on the left. All buttoms are tactile and easy to press.

The speaker grill along with the main mic are on the bottom and the headset jack as well as micro USB port are on the top.

We have a 13MP camera on the back along with a single LED flash. Right below it we can find a fingerprint scanner. So far it has been working fine but we will tell how it performs in a full review.

My first impressions once I took the phone out of the box were that it looks slightly different than most of the Chinese phones. I believe that Kinzone have experimented with the design and I kind of like it.

The textured back does not attract fingerprints and smudges and it is nice to the touch.

In addition, the phone sits nicely in the hand and it is comfortable to hold.

All in all, the Kingzone Z1 Plus shapes up to be a pretty good phone but we need to spend a bit more time with it. Stay tuned for a full review.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: DESIGN and DISPLAY

When it comes to the design, we are looking at the device that has a gorgeous 5.5” 2K display. We all know that Samsung have had one of the best screens on the market and the S7 Edge is no exception. The panel that is covered by the Gorilla Glass 5, is sharp, vibrant, bright and definitely on of the best on any smartphone. 

You will be able to see this great screen even under water as the Galaxy S7 edge is IP68-certified, meaning that it can be used for 30 mins up to 1.5m under water. Also, it can survive a little bit of dust, too. I would say that is a huge advantage over the majority of the competition.

We have a really cool innovation – always-on display and this feature is really neat. Basically, what it does, it shows the clock, calendar and some useful stuff, and this feature uses a very low amount of energy. To be honest, it took me a few days to get used to it as I wanted to turn the display off manually but I really love this feature. 

As the name implies, the display has edges on both sides and it adds a lot of character to the design. Sometimes it even makes an impression that the display is bezel-less.

Of course, there is a functional part of those edges. For example, you can create shortcuts to some tasks, quickly access contacts, news, apps and so on. 

If you swipe your finger along the edge screen while the display is off, you’ll get some other useful info too.

On the front, we have a 5MP selfie shooter, notification LED and other usual stuff. On the bottom, there is a classic Samsung’s button layout – nicely backlit capacitive keys and the physical home button, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner.

Speaking of which, it is very fast and accurate but I am disappointed that it does not work straight from the standby mode, meaning that you should press the home or power key first.

The back is made of another sheet of Gorilla Glass 5 and the edges of it are also slightly curved. I gotta tell you that those curves make a huge difference in terms of comfort and ergonomics while holding the phone in the hand. 

The camera has 12MP, which sounds like a downgrade but we have all sorts of tech going on here. It has a dual-pixel tech to assure crazy fast auto-focus and believe me, it is the fastest I’ve seen. Also, the camera has OIS, PDAF and a whopping very bright f/1.7 aperture. 

Next to the camera we have the LED flash and a heart rate monitor to help you track your exercise routines.  

The power button, which is on the right along with volume keys, which are on the left, are very clicky and responsive. 

On the bottom, we have the regular ports, the loudspeaker, and neither of them are covered by flaps despite waterproof properties of the phone. 

On the top, there is a secondary mic and the nano SIM and microSD card tray. Yes, Samsung finally brought a cheap storage expansion option and you can add up to 200GB of local storage.

It is quite an interesting choice that we don’t have the IR blaster anymore. Well, I’ve never used it anyway but it was cool knowing it was there on the Galaxy S6. 

Overall, the phone looks amazing and I love the design ot it. It screams premium and it sits comfortably in the hand despite being a device with 5.5”display. However, keep in mind that the glass back attracts fingerprints and smudges very quickly.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: UI

When it comes to the UI, we have Samsung’s Touchwiz, which is built on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. 

If you’ve used a Samsung device before, you will feel pretty familiar with the user interface. Most importantly, everything is running smoothly most of the times and I didn’t have any lags.

We have a bit cartoonish looking icons, a lot of quick settings toggles and what has become usual to the South-Korean manufacturer, quite a lot of features and customisation options.

Just to name a few, you can quickly launch the camera by double clicking the home button. Also, you can trigger one handed operation if click the home button three times.

There is pop-up window mode or split-screen feature for those who can’t live without multitasking.

There are some other features too. Some of them may sound gimmicky, while others are even called experimental. 

Finally, you can customise your Galaxy device with a variety of different themes, wallpapers and so on.

All in all, the Touchwiz UI runs fast and fluid and I had a pleasant overall experience. However, it uses around 8GB of internal storage, which is too much I would say. 

Also, the RAM management is not yet perfect. Seriously, this is 4GB RAM phone and there is only 1.2GB of RAM free after killing all the background tasks? Hopefully, this is what Samsung is going to fix with the software update soon.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a few hardware modifications but you can be rest assured that either model will have bleeding edge specifications.

My review unit is the EU model and it sports a home-brewed octa-core Exynos 8890 chip with the clock speeds of up to 2.6GHz, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

If you are wondering what this combo of specs is capable of, all 3D games just fly. There is no stutter or any skipped frames, the graphics look awesome and the games load amazingly fast. 

In addition, there is a dedicated Game Tools app that provides some convenient features like the ability to turn off alerts during the game or record the gameplay.

Also, the phone does not heat up at all even after extensive periods of gaming and that is thanks to the Volcano API and liquid-cooling system. 

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: MULTIMEDIA

When it comes to multimedia consumption, the sound quality via earphones is near excellent and the volume output is loud. However, the external speaker could be slightly louder and it sounds a little bit muffled. I believe that may be due to its waterproof properties.

Once you fire up the camera app, you will be blown away by the blazing fast auto-focus speeds in any light. 

What we have here is typical Samsung, which brings quite a few settings and shooting modes, and you can even download more modes  if you wish. 

One thing I was really disappointed by is that the sensor uses a native 4:3 aspect ratio, meaning that the images will not be full screen if you shoot at the maximum resolution. 

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: IMAGE QUALITY

When it comes to the actual image quality, it is definitely on of the best in class. The daylight pictures look sharp, have lots of detail, the colour look natural and other aspects like dynamic range and exposure and handled well. 

It is a similar story with indoor and macro shots as the camera manages to capture a great amount of detail despite worse lighting conditions.

The low-light camera performance is fantastic. It not only focuses very fast but also manages to produce great looking photos. Naturally, there is less detail but the level of it is still very good. Also, the noise levels are kept to minimum. The only shortcoming is that the auto post-processing leads to a slight yellow tint in some of the pictures.

The front facing camera takes very good selfies even in low light and that is thanks to the bright aperture.

Both 1080p and 4K videos look stunning. The footage is sharp and very detailed, the OIS does its job very well and the videos are one of the best I’ve seen.

The S7 Edge has a 3600mAh battery and I was curious how it performs with the always-on display.

I gotta tell you that I was quite impressed with the results. I could get over 5 hours of screen-on time while taking lots of pictures, shooting a lot 4k videos, gaming, browsing the web and so on. 

If you need to top up the battery, the phone charges up really fast and that is thanks to the fast charging feature. Also, there is an embedded wireless charging feature that helps cut a few wires.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: CONCLUSIONS

So, there you have it, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. This is the best Samsung phone ever and definitely on of the best on the market. 

The design is really flashy, the curved screen with the always-on display feature is fantastic, the UI is running fast and the phone has one of the best specs currently available that can handle even the most demanding tasks without a sweat or overheating.

Also, the S7 Edge has awesome camera, a great battery life and yeah, this thing is fully waterproof.

On the other hand, the glass backplate is a huge fingerprint magnet, the UI takes a lot of storage space and uses lots of RAM, and the current state of software does not support Android 6.0’s adaptable storage.  Also, the camera sensor has a native 4:3 aspect ratio and oh boy, this phone is expensive. It costs around $800 and perhaps not everyone is going to buy it.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a fantastic phone and it will be one of the best devices out there for months ahead despite having a few shortcomings. Just remember, premium phone comes at a premium price.

Mixcder, an audio-first company has created, what could possibly be the best wireless earphones for sports; The earbuds dubbed ‘Basso’ is what we will be taking a look at today.

First, let’s check out the box, and what’s inside it. The box looks like a re-cycled Xiaomi-type brown box, which is pretty straight forward.

Inside the box we have the Earphones themselves, extra ear gels for different sizes and comfort needs, a carrying case, and finally, the user guide.

The specs of the headset are:

The headset checks all marks for a sports headset, light weight, long lasting battery, and durable. The Basso headset is very flexible. Its cable is made of a very strong material.

Most of all the headset has a very unique formfitting ear mold which feels very comfortable to wear when exercising, or when running. The headset holds on pretty well, and there will be no sense of them falling out.

The Noise Cancellation on the Basso headphones is very good as they go very deep into the ear. Since the ear support material is very flexible, it’s bends to give the perfect fit for best listening and isolation experience.

The headphones do also have in-line control buttons, which are multi-functional. You can answer and end calls, control music, control volume. This in-line module also houses a Micro-USB port for charging the headset. Since it uses the widely-adapted Micro-USB standard, it’s very convenient. This module is where the Mic also resides.

The control module is probably the heaviest component of the headset, something that I haven’t seen with other wireless earphones that I have used. The battery is probably housed in this casing, since it is where the charging port is. Mixcder has included a clip on the earphones, which is also probably to clip the control module to your shirt so that it doesn’t pull on the earphones.

Sound: Not ‘Bass’ heavy

If you’re a person who listens to a lot of bass heavy electronic or hip-hop music, this headset is not for you. Everything that I played on the Basso wireless headset, has been very well defined. I mostly listen to EDM, House, Classical, Acoustic, and Lyric songs, and everything I listened to on this headset was very crisp and clear, all the highs, mids, and the lows are very well defined and clear.

Carry Case

The carry case provided with the Basso headphones is very good. In fact, it’s very similar to what popular brands include with their headphones. The case is very rugged, strong, and will provide protection for the headphones when travelling, and leave some extra room for some memory cards, USB drives, and almost anything and everything that you can fit into it. It also has a carabiner whtich you can use to hang to your backpack, your belt, etc.

Should you buy it?

YES! A big yes. No matter which genre of music you listen to, this headset does the job, and it does it well. If you only want a “bass heavy” experience, this is probably not for you. I listen to a lot of bass heavy music, and I am very well pleased with the performance of the Mixcder Basso wireless sports headset, and I would recommend you give them a shot as well, especially since, they are available on an all-time low price of $25.99 from Amazon.com, from the regular price of $69.99.

Yesterday, Xiaomi’s latest flagship phone, the Mi 4, was finally launched and its specs are as good as expected. It sports a 5-inch IPS display screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution, runs on the 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 (MSM8247AC) processor, has 3GB RAM, 16GB/64GB ROM, and a 8mp/13mp camera. It is also powered by a 3080mAh battery and its operating system is the Android 4.4-based MIUI V5 OS (The V6 will come out in August). As of now, it costs 1999 RMB (322.33 USD).

During the launch, Lei Jun spent most of the time discussing the materials used to manufacture the Mi 4 and barely said a word about its specs. It looks like Xiaomi had put a lot of effort in creating the right texture for the Mi 4. A lot of improvements were made for its outer design such as increasing its screen ratio. On July 22, OnePlus fulfilled their promise and released an edition of the OnePlus One made of bamboo.

The bamboo OnePlus One has the same specs as the original OnePlus One. 

There’s also no difference in the appearance other than the material used.

The bamboo case adds a more natural texture to the OnePlus One and since the bamboo used for each phone is different, each bamboo phone has its own unique texture.

The OnePlus One’s logo is carved on the back of the original phone while spray coating is used to put the logo on the bamboo version.

The bamboo rear cover is detachable but is not sold separately.

At the launch event, in addition to the bamboo rear cover, OnePlus also showcased rear covers made of wood from ebony trees, and even denim. With the release of the bamboo edition, many believe that OnePlus will release other phones made of these kinds of materials.
