<p>With Qualcomm recently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/28/snapdragon-888-plus-5g-arrives-with-a-higher-clock-speed-and-better-ai-performance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announcing its latest top end chip, the Snapdragon 888+</a>, various smartphone makers revealed that they would be launching new handsets that feature the flagship processor. This will apparently include the Mi MIX 4, which will reportedly arrive with the new chipset along with an AMOLED display that supports high refresh rate. As per a Weibo tipster @<a class="W_f14 W_fb S_txt1" href="https://weibo.com/u/6734482564" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">禿然熊猫</a>, the Mi MIX 4 will support over 100W fast charging and will also sport an under display camera on the front.</p>
<p>This <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/28/official-honor-magic-3-series-flagship-will-be-powered-by-the-snapdragon-888-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">chip will also be found in the Honor Magic 3</a> as well. The tipster further added that the Honor Magic 3 will arrive with an under display camera solution from BOE, while the Mi MIX 4 will feature an AMOLED under display camera screen from China&#8217;s Optoelectronics. This will also be a hyperboloid display that has a size of around 6.67 inch and would reportedly support high refresh rates as well. Furthermore, another tipster @<a class="W_f14 W_fb S_txt1" href="https://weibo.com/u/6048569942?refer_flag=1005055013_" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">数码闲聊站</a> also stated that the display would most likely feature an FHD+ resolution and will have a screen to body ratio similar to the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mi-11/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Mi 11</a>.</p>

<p>At the moment, finer details regarding both devices are currently unknown. However, some of these leaks are in line with a few of our previous reports. Earlier, we had covered that the Mi MIX 4 will support <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/24/xiaomi-mi-mix-4-flagship-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">120W fast charging on its 5000mAh</a> battery pack and will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/18/xiaomi-mi-mix-4-pricing-rumors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">feature an under display camera</a> on the front. As per a new report, the company will be including Under Display <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/face-id/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Face ID</a> systems starting from its future iPhone lineup.</p>
<figure id="attachment_384116" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-384116" style="width: 689px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-384116 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-7.png?x44794" alt="Apple" width="689" height="383" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-7.png 689w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-7-300x167.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 689px) 100vw, 689px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-384116" class="wp-caption-text">Image Via MacRumors</figcaption></figure>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/2021/04/14/kuo-2023-iphones-under-display-face-id/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>MacRumors</em> </a>report, known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the upcoming iPhone 2023 lineup will feature the new technology, which will remove the need for the notch on the company&#8217;s smartphones. Kuo states that the new under display Face ID systems will debut along with a new periscopic telephoto lens in 2023. The analyst believes that the Cupertino based giant will abandon the notch design for a punch hold design for at least some of its 2022 iPhone lineup.</p>
<p>The Face ID first made an appearance with the iPhone X, with the notch primarily serving its purpose to house the TrueDepth camera system. Notably, we had reported on the company also launching its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/14/apple-iphone-14-feature-48mp-camera-iphone-mini-series-to-be-discontinued-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 14 with a 48 megapixel camera sensor</a>. Now, Kuo states that the at least one of the high end iPhone model in 2023 will house an under display fingerprint sensor with no notch and a full front screen body. However, the analyst did not mention whether or not both an under display Face ID and Touch ID will be offered in a single device, or if the features will be exclusive to the higher end models.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-155698 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-9.34.42-PM.png?x44794" alt="Apple" width="1053" height="729" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-9.34.42-PM.png 1053w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-9.34.42-PM-300x208.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-9.34.42-PM-768x532.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-9.34.42-PM-1024x709.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1053px) 100vw, 1053px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the company has been rumored to adopt the under display fingerprint scanner for a while now. Although, this might be one of the first mentions of the iPhone maker offering an under display facial recognition system. From a technological standpoint, it would require more advanced systems to make the an under display Face ID, considering TrueDepth camera system must be able to read and recognize faces through pixels on the display without any distortion.</p>

But the list of products with this tech may soon grow as the world’s largest smartphone maker Samsung has patented an implementation regarding the same.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to </span><a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/samsung-under-display-camera/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">LetsGoDigital</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Samsung Display filed a patent titled ‘Display Device’ with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in May 2020. Its documentation was later published on December 31, 2020.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This patent details the South Korean tech giant’s under-display camera implementation on smartphones. As per the documents, this solution includes two display parts. The first one is the primary screen with a better resolution, whereas the second smaller part has a comparatively lower resolution.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This second part can be either placed along the entire top side of the handset or any of the top sides. This section can be used not only to hide the front-facing camera but also LED flash and sensors.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Infrared sensors can be utilized to easily recognize objects/people as more light cannot enter underneath the display. This sensor can also calculate the distance between the phone and the objects/people.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That said, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> also makes reference to a similar patent filed in 2016 in the new one. Thus, we can say that the company has been continuously improving its implementation for years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anyway, it is not known when the tech behemoth will bring this solution to the market. Nevertheless, we can expect it to debut on a high-end Galaxy A series phone instead of flagships.</span></p>
