<p>Apple is expected to switch all iPhone 15 models to USB-C ports this year. USB-C is more versatile and efficient than Lightning, but the standard <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/09/images-of-usb-c-ports-on-iphone-15-series-leaked/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/16/iphone-15-production-india/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15 Plus </a>models may not see any improvement in data transfer speeds. </p>

<h2><strong>Slow USB-C cable for iPhone 15/15 Plus</strong></h2>

<p>According to Apple leaker <a href="https://twitter.com/MajinBuOfficial" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Majin Bu</a>, the standard iPhone 15 models will ship with USB-C cables that are limited to USB 2.0 speeds, which is 480 MBps. This is the same speed as Lightning. And charging will be the same too, capped at 20W.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">New iPhone 15 USB C Cable Info Confirmed <br>1.6M long<br>16Pins <br>Thicker and more resistant<br>USB 2.0 20V3A <br>No MFI <a href="https://t.co/WV4unodWPg">pic.twitter.com/WV4unodWPg</a></p>&mdash; Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) <a href="https://twitter.com/MajinBuOfficial/status/1694463233183101216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 23, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>While the standard models are rumored to only support USB 2.0 speeds, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/17/iphone-15-pro-aluminum-prototype-surfaces/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15 Pro</a> models are expected to support much faster USB-C transfer speeds. </p>

<p>According to Apple analyst <a href="https://twitter.com/mingchikuo?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ming-Chi Kuo</a>, the iPhone 15 Pro models could support &#8220;at least&#8221; USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, which can offer transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-561031" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/iPhone-15-to-come-with-slow-USB-C-Cable-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>This is significantly faster than the 480 Mbps offered by USB 2.0. As a result, iPhone 15 Pro models will be able to transfer videos and other large files much more quickly than the standard iPhone 15 models.</p>

<p>Moreover, reports suggest that each iPhone 15 will come with a thicker, more durable braided USB-C charging cable that is 50% longer than the Lightning cable that comes with current iPhone models. The cables are also rumored to be color-matched to the new iPhone colors, which may include black, white, yellow, blue, and orange.</p>

<p>The leak also suggests that the iPhone 15 will not require a Made for iPhone (MFI) certification chip on its USB-C charging cable. This is contrary to previous rumors that Apple would limit or throttle data speeds for cables that were not MFI-certified.</p>
