Xenes Disinfection Services, which is based in Texas (US), recently announced the successful tests of the LightStrike robot against COVID-19. The machine which was also sold in Japan by Terumo, a medical equipment manufacturer, and emits light at wavelengths between 200 and 312 nanometers that decontaminate beds, doorknobs and other surfaces that people frequently come in contact with.

In about two to three minutes, these ultraviolet radiations leave the virus too damaged to function normally. In other words, it breaks down it’s functioning, essentially impairing it. The robot has also been proven to work against multi-drug resistant bacteria and the Ebola virus as well. The LightStrike robot even has shown a 99.99 percent effectiveness in eliminating the coronavirus N95 masks.

At the moment, the robot is currently being utilized in over 500 health care facilities across the globe. Terumo had received the distribution rights back in 2017 and has been giving out the machine 15 million Yen (roughly 140,000 US Dollars). During this time of crisis, it is expected that the demand for the device will only increase, especially from hospitals and other medical institutions.

The move from Samsung arrives as a positive step from public relations stand point and a customer point of view. On one hand, the tech giant receives praise for its initiative while you as customers are more better prepared and less likely to be infected. Nowadays, smartphones have become essential in one’s day to day life. We use it every day, sometimes even for hours. So the extra precautionary measure is nothing but helpful to users.

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Water Purifier features a three filter design, much similar to its recently launched “Lentils” Water Purifier in China. These three filters work together to purify water in five stages. In the first two stages, the PPC filter clears out any large and visible particles in the water along with residual chlorine, odor, and color. The RO filter removes heavy metals and other organic materials in the third stage. The fourth stage involves the PAC filter removing odor and also improving the taste of the water. In the final fifth stage, UV light kills the remaining bacteria and viruses inside the water with 99.9% efficiency.

While this three-filter design ensures clean and safe drinking water, the real highlight of the Mi Smart Water Purifier is its smart capabilities, not usually found in this segment. Xiaomi’s Mi Home app can give you an exact picture of what’s happening inside the Purifier. You can monitor the water level in the tank, keep a track of the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level of the water inside, as well as the lifetime of each filter, in real-time.

The Mi Water Purifier also comes with a DIY filter replacement design which ensures you don’t have to worry about additional annual maintenance costs. Xiaomi’s water purifier is priced at Rs. 11,999 ($167) and will go on sale from September 29 in India via Mi.com, Flipkart, and Mi Home stores.
