Earlier today (3rd March 2021), the Meizu 18 series of flagship smartphone were launched. Along with the new smartphones, the company also unveiled a vertical wireless charger, which is compatible with the new devices.

The Meizu 18 Pro is the current high end flagship from the Chinese smartphone maker and supports 40W wireless and wired fast charging, while also supports 10W reverse wireless charging as well. Thus, the vertical wireless charger is an accessory that lets users wirelessly fast charge their new smartphones. The new charger is priced at 199 Yuan (roughly 30.7 US Dollars) and is sold separately.

Talking about the newly launched devices, The Meizu 18 and 18 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. They are equipped with up to 12GB of LPPDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Meizu 18 has a 4,000mAh battery, whereas the Pro model gets a larger 4,500mAh battery. The vanilla model supports 36W Super mCharge fast charging, while the Pro model is equipped with 40W charging and 40W Super Wireless mCharge technology.

The Meizu 18 series is currently up for pre orders in China through various e commerce sites. It will be available for purchase from March 8. There is no word on the global availability of the Meizu 18 and 18 Pro handsets. So, we can expect the new vertical charger to launch around the same time.

Last month, Xiaomi started crowdfunding a vertical wireless charging socket on Xiaomi Mall, for a price of 109 yuan (~$16). By the end of the crowdfunding campaign, around 35,000 people backed the product.

Now, the product is available for purchase on Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Youpin, and other retail channels of the company, carrying a price tag of 129 yuan, which roughly converts to $19.

The Xiaomi Vertical Wireless Charging Socket uses dual-coil wireless charging so that the devices can be charged however they are placed — vertically or horizontally. The maximum wireless charging speed is 10W.

It is designed in such a way that the socket can also be used as a mobile stand with a 20-degree viewing angle. Being a charging socket, it comes equipped with three USB ports and a single port output is 18W.

The device also comes with a new standard combination jack and the two sets of standard combination hacks can fulfill the power needs of two desktop plugs, says the company. There is also a green-colored indicator to show the charging status.

The product also has a wireless charging stand with a non-slip silicone cushion. It is designed in such a way that when a device is docked, it offers a 20-degree viewing angle and can be used for several functions, including music playing, chatting, browsing, etc.

Xiaomi’s newly announced vertical wireless charger is doing pretty well in China. The company revealed earlier today that its inexpensive 79 yuan ($11) wireless charger has already received over 70,000 backers on its crowdfunding website. The campaign kicked off on Singles Day (11/11) and it’s not surprising that it has received a strong response from Xiaomi fans in China.

It can wirelessly charge the Mi 9 Pro at 20W, ensuring you get up to 50% of charging in around 35 minutes. Since its a Qi-based charger, it can also wirelessly charge other devices like the Galaxy S10 and iPhone 11 series models. The charger supports wireless charging up to 4mm, which means you can charge your device with a case as well.

The 20W wireless charger from Xiaomi has a minimalist design with a circular base and an angled back which somewhat looks similar to its power banks. It comes in a matte black finish which gives it a classic and elegant look. It is capable of charging smartphones in both landscape and vertical position.

Once the $11 crowdfunding campaign ends, the Mi Wireless charger will end up for sale in the retail market for a slightly higher 99 yuan ($14) price tag.
