<p>Marketing and advertising are quite important for smartphone manufacturers. These strategies are often implemented to highlight the key features of the device and to appeal to the target audience, directly influencing sales. However, in some instances, some brands make &#8220;wrong&#8221; decisions, attempting to deceive consumers with their marketing methods. Unfortunately, the latest example of this occurred with Samsung. The company, which launched the Galaxy A24 model in Malaysia, lied by promoting a phone with 8GB of RAM as though it had 16GB. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>The Story Behind the &#8216;Fake&#8217; 16GB RAM Deception on Galaxy A24</strong></h2>

<p>Samsung is doing everything it can to boost sales of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a24-4g/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy A24</a>, which it recently launched in Malaysia. However, it seems that the features of this $200 phone are not enough for the company. Therefore, it&#8217;s attempting to present the virtual RAM feature differently to consumers. In marketing materials, the phone, which has 8GB of real and 8GB of virtual RAM, is shown as having 16GB of RAM. Unfortunately, this tends to increase people&#8217;s expectations of the device and has a tendency to mislead consumers.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-536821" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsungs-galaxy-a24-misleading-marketing-strategy-1.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Despite Samsung being a long-standing leader in the smartphone market, its position is not guaranteed. Therefore, it must constantly introduce new products and increase both its sales and profitability by marketing them correctly. Regrettably, it should also refrain from telling falsehoods in the process. Of course, the word &#8220;lie&#8221; in this scenario is somewhat strong. </p>

<p>Because technically, with the RAM Plus software, you can indeed convert some of the storage space into virtual RAM. However, this does not justify marketing the Galaxy A24 in such a manner. Moreover, this is unfair to the device, which comes with decent technical specifications for its price.</p>

<p>In line with that, the South Korean tech giant has a new feature to enhance the user experience on these newly launched smartphones by allowing users to configure the amount of virtual memory on the devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-441945 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S22 Series by Evan Blass" width="4000" height="2250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A.jpg 4000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Samsung-Galaxy-S22-Series-Render-Leak-A-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px" /></p>
<p>The company has introduced a feature called RAM Plus for the Galaxy lineup of devices that enables users to increase the amount of RAM to improve the phone&#8217;s performance. The amount of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/virtual-ram">virtual RAM</a> can be selected out of four options &#8212; 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB.</p>
<p>The feature basically allocates some of the phone&#8217;s storage phone as virtual RAM. This is similar to Windows allocating a portion of disk storage to use as virtual RAM for a scenario where the physical RAM is insufficient.</p>
<p>Although the feature isn&#8217;t new, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy">Galaxy phones</a> were limited to using only 4GB of storage as virtual RAM but with the One UI 4.1, the company is now allowing the users to choose up to 8GB in case that much memory is needed.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that the 4GB storage is selected by default to be used as virtual RAM and while users can change the configuration, there&#8217;s no option for disabling this feature on the Samsung Galaxy devices.</p>

Now, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/zte/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ZTE</a> is developing its own memory expansion technology that offers a whopping 8GB boost in virtual RAM that will boost the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-30-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Axon 30 5G</a> from 12GB to 20GB of RAM.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_401374" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-401374" style="width: 2000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-401374 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE Axon 30 5G live shots 2" width="2000" height="1333" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2.jpg 2000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/ZTE-Axon-30-5G-live-shots-2-1920x1280.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-401374" class="wp-caption-text">Axon 30 5G</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>For those unaware, memory expansion uses some of a handset&#8217;s ROM (internal storage) which is not in use to virtually boost the RAM. Through this, we have seen memory boosts of different ranges like 3GB or even 7GB. But its seems ZTE aims on improving this technology even further. According to Lu Qianhao, Director of Consumer Experience Department at ZTE, the technology has yet to be well received by users due its implementation so far.</p>
<p>He added that one of the reasons for the lack of its widespread adoption is that the end user does not always see noticeable difference in performance and apart from a boost in RAM amount it does not always offer a lot of benefits. As per the official, one of its implementation is a simple use of free ROM. But this lacks any proper background scheduling aglorithms that would make it very useful. He further added that the boost in virtual RAM is also not substantial at the moment.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-401679 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653.jpg?x10805" alt="ZTE" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/s_37377a3f085a45528ddaf64643a4e653-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>But he stated that ZTE has developed its own Memory Expansion Pro technology to improve upon these limitations. The new proprietary system will combine UFS 3.1 ROM that has fast read and write speeds along with a brand new Lingxi engine to raise the RAM capacity by 8GB of RAM. This means that the Axon 30 5G&#8217;s 12GB of RAM could reach 20GB through this new technology.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Those who would have updated to the CPH2023_11.C.68 June 2021 build would be seeing this Virtual RAM feature. Interestingly, this virtual RAM can be tweaked from the settings of the device. In order to expand the RAM, you need to do the following after updating the software. </span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Go to settings</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Find RAM option, Click on the RAM option</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Select the expansion toggle and select the RAM size</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With the virtual RAM expansion feature, you can expand the RAM up to 7GB. It has options to choose from 3GB, 5GB, and the maxed out 7GB RAM. Currently, the feature is only rolled out to some Find X2 devices. We can expect more phones to get this feature via a software update. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Notably, its premium sibling, the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x2-pro-2/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OPPO Find X2 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has not yet received this feature. However, it shouldn&#8217;t be too long until we see the virtual RAM expansion options on the device. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The upcoming OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/oppo-reno6-reno6-pro-5g-launch-date-revealed-for-india/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">launching on July 14 </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">will also be featuring virtual RAM support out of the box. As of now, it is unknown what expansion options would the device get. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Other than this, some BBK backed phone makers have also unveiled phones with virtual RAM. Recently, the</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/realme-narzo-30-5g/#:~:text=Realme%20Narzo%2030%205G%20is,Realme%20UI%202.0%20operating%20system."><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Realme Narzo 30 5G</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> also received this feature with a dedicated RAM amount selection option. </span></p>
