Last year, Vivo took the industry by surprise when it announced a new iQOO series which is made up of gaming smartphones. The iQOO Neo 855 is the latest model but it will soon get a touched-up variant soon. The variant which adopts the model number V1936AL has just appeared on the database of benchmarking outfit Master Lu.

The initial iQOO Neo model launched some months back had the model numbers V1936A/V1936T. The original model also lanched with a Snapdragon 845 chipset and was later followed by a Snapdragon 855 version. This new version is shown to pack a Snapdragon 855+ chipset.

Recall that this same Vivo V1936AL model was earlier spotted on TENAA where it was certified. The images accompanying the certification showed the device won’t have any differences in design from the iQOO Neo 855.

Recall that the Vivo iQOO Neo 855 was announced back in October at an affordable price tag of 1998 yuan ($283) for its 6GB + 64GB variant. The phone has a special limited edition as well in China called the Vivo iQOO Neo 855 ‘Flying Horse of Gansu’ edition. This Snapdragon 855+ version comes with 8GB of RAM and we expect up to 256GB storage option. There could even be a 512GB storage version.

Vivo released a lot of affordable phones with year. And when we say affordable phones, we do not only talk about mid-rangers and entry-level devices but also about affordable flagships. A few weeks ago the company announced the iQOO Neo which is currently one of the most interesting high-end phones in terms of quality price ratio. It is meant especially for gamers, but in the same price range, there are also other devices focused on the camera and other key features. In order to establish which kind of Vivo device you could actually need, we compared three of the most important affordable phones released by the company in the last weeks: Vivo Z5, V17 Neo and iQOO Neo. Let’s find out who is better and for which users.

Vivo Z5 vs Vivo V17 Neo vs Vivo iQOO Neo

Design

Glass backs, waterdrop notches, very narrow bezels, and compact dimensions. That is what makes these three devices wonderful when it comes to aesthetics. I would personally choose the Vivo V17 Neo because the gradient pattern on its rear side and its colors are way more original than most of the phones out there. But you should not underestimate the Vivo Z5 which is still a very elegant handset.

Display

All of these devices seem to mount exactly the same panel. The display is a midrange-class Super AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.38 inches and a Full HD resolution with 1080 x 2340 pixels. They all offer brilliant colors but not an excellent reproduction, however, they all integrate an in-display fingerprint reader. Not excellent, but more than sufficient. Obviously, it is a draw in regards to this comparison.

Hardware/Software

If you are seeking the fastest phone and the best device for gaming, productivity, and the most advanced usage patterns, go for the Vivo iQOO Neo without thinking twice. It is the only to feature a flagship chipset: the octa-core Snapdragon 845 running at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz. The SoC is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, but it lacks a micro SD slot unlike the Vivo Z5 and the V17 Neo. Note that the Vivo Z5 is the only to feature up to 256 GB of internal storage, while the advantage of the Vivo V17 Neo is the presence of a micro SD dedicated slot.

Camera

The camera is the strongest point of the Vivo Z5: the mid-ranger comes with the highest resolution for the main sensor (48 MP) and a very satisfying ultrawide lens, as well as an additional depth sensor. Further, it is equipped with an amazing 32 MP front camera for selfies. Vivo iQOO Neo is the most disappointing one, just like most of the gaming smartphones if we compare them with other flagship phones. Vivo V17 Neo sits in the middle as it comes with the same front camera as the Z5 but a rear camera with lower resolutions and a lower level of detail captured.

Battery

Given that Vivo Z5 and V17 Neo have a way bigger battery than iQOO Neo, both of them should last a lot more on a single charge in most of the scenarios. They both come with a 4500 mAh battery, but I believe that Vivo Z5 will last even more than V17 Neo thanks to its more efficient chipset: the Snapdragon 712 by Qualcomm built at 10 nm. Both Vivo Z5 and Vivo iQOO Neo have a faster charging technology than V17 Neo.

Price

Vivo Z5 is priced €210/$235 in its most affordable variant, Vivo iQOO Neo starts from €250/$278 and Vivo V17 Neo carries a €280/$312 price tag. If you want the most complete device with a high-end camera, a huge battery and well-balanced specifications, go for the Vivo Z5. But overall, if you only care about performance, Vivo iQOO Neo is better. Last, V17 Neo looks inferior compared to the Z5.

BBK subsidiary Vivo released the Vivo iQOO Neo earlier this month powered by last year’s Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset. The Neo has as its biggest asset the affordable pricing which it comes with coupled with a gaming-focused hardware setup. The iQOONeo was also made available in 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variants. Looks like things are going to get even cheaper with the gaming phone soon as an iQOO Neo variant with 4GB of RAM has been certified by China’s telecoms regulatory agency TENAA.

The Vivo iQOO Neo is priced at 1,798 yuan (about $260) presently for the 6GB+64GB variant. So, we expect the 4GB RAM variant to come in at around 1,500 yuan (less than $200). Since the 6GB RAM variant is bundled with 64GB of internal storage, it is possible that we’ll be seeing 128GB storage onboard the 4GB RAM variant to even things up.

The Vivo iQOO Neo is currently only available in China but we expect the phone to be made available for the global market soon. When it does, you’ll get an affordable phone with a sturdy specs lineup.

As a reminder, the phone features 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and comes with the trendy in-display fingerprint scanner as well as support for face unlock feature. Earlier this month, on 2nd July, Vivo’s newly established sub-brand for premium smartphones — iQOO, launched a new variant of the Vivo iQOO phone dubbed as Vivo iQOO Neo, another gaming phone with decent specs.

Now, the Vivo iQOO Neo smartphone is officially available for purchase in China with a starting price of 1,798 Yuan, which roughly converts to $261, for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The smartphone features a 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and comes with the trendy in-display fingerprint scanner as well as support for face unlock feature.

One of the ways the iQOO Neo is able to have a low price tag is as a result of its processor. Rather than opting for the Snapdragon 855 chipset, the device is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 845 processor which is a beast nonetheless.

The device comes with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. In the camera department, it features a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera and it is followed by the primary 12MP f/1.79 camera and then a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor.

On the front side, housed inside the notch in the display is a 12MP camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture. While the iQOO Neo does not pack as much processing power as its sibling, it does have a bigger battery capacity – 4500mAh which should last a full day even if you decide to burn some time playing PUBG. Design

While both Nubia Red Magic Mars and Xiaomi Black Shark Helo boast a gaming-centric design (they even got gorgeous RGB strips), the Vivo iQOO Neo looks like a normal smartphone. So if you do not want everyone to know you got a gaming phone or you still desire an elegant handset, go for the Vivo iQOO Neo. But if you are a real advanced gamer who wants all the comforts, then you should choose the Nubia Red Magic Mars because of its physical rear keys which are very helpful in a lot of games.

Display

Do not expect a flagship class display from these gaming phones, but not even a disappointing panel. Xiaomi Black Shark Helo comes with the highest DCI-P3 coverage and it has very brilliant colors: it is definitely the most suitable display for a gamer with its AMOLED technology and the absence of a notch. Vivo iQOO Neo offers an important advantage: it is the only with an in-display fingerprint reader, but it is not a so relevant thing for gamers.

Specs & Software

Despite they are gaming-centric phones, these devices do not feature the most powerful SoC of 2019, but they have an old-gen Snapdragon 845. It is still an amazing SoC and it is more than sufficient for every kind of game, especially when it comes to Nubia Red Magic Mars and Xiaomi Black Shark which boast up to 10 GB of RAM and a very advanced cooling system. These two handsets win the hardware comparison because of these reasons, but I personally prefer the Nubia Red Magic Mars as, unlike the Black Shark Helo, it has Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Camera

Unfortunately, we still did not test the Vivo iQOO Neo, but we can tell you that on the paper Xiaomi Black Shark Helo looks like the best camera phone of this trio. It has a dual rear camera including 2x optical zoom, as well as a pretty nice 20 MP front camera. Vivo iQOO Neo has a triple rear camera with an ultrawide lens, but it comes with lower resolutions for both rear cameras and the selfie camera. Stay away from the Nubia Red Magic Mars if you need the best camera phone.

Battery

The battery is the strongest point of the Vivo iQOO Neo: it is equipped with a huge 4500 mAh and it can last up to two days on a single charge even with intensive usage. Vivo iQOO Neo even comes with a faster charging technology than both Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and ZTE Nubia Red Magic Mars. The second place goes to the Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and its 4000 mAh battery.

Price

Vivo iQOO Neo hitten the market with a $260/€290 price tag, while you can find both Nubia Red Magic and Xiaomi Black Shark Helo for more than $270/€300. Overall, on the paper, if we only consider the specifications, Vivo iQOO Neo looks better. But for real gamers, maybe Nubia Red Magic Mars is a better choice because of its physical keys on the back, more RAM, and a better cooling system.

A brand new affordable flagship made its debut just a few hours ago. Its name is Vivo iQOO Neo and it is a very atypical midrange device as it is equipped with a flagship chipset from 2018. That is why it represents a very interesting choice for everyone who wants high performances at the lowest price. But there are also other last-gen devices you can choose if you desire a high speed and smoothness. The latest from Huawei and Xiaomi are the Redmi K20 Pro and the Honor 20. Does the price difference justify their purchase or the affordable iQOO Neo is a better choice? This comparison will let you find out.

Vivo iQOO Neo vs Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro vs Huawei Honor 20

Design

As the Vivo iQOO Neo is a classic phone with a waterdrop design, Redmi K20 Pro and Honor 20 are way more interesting if we talk about aesthetics. The former is equipped with a pop-up front camera which allows the presence of very narrow bezels around the display, even though the display is notch-less. The latter has a punch-hole design, so a front camera inside a hole in the display. The rear side of the Redmi K20 Pro looks more suggestive to me due to its liquid finish, but a lot of people may prefer the Honor 20 due to its most compact size.

Display

There is no challenge here: Redmi K20 Pro wins the display comparison. The Honor 20 has a classic IPS display that you can find on most of the midrange phones. The Vivo iQOO has an AMOLED display, but just an average color accuracy. Redmi K20 Pro is much more accurate when it comes to color reproduction, and it is HDR10-compliant. Further, it has no notch and it sounds amazing. It is even protected by Gorilla Glass 5, so it is a more resistant panel.

Hardware/Software

Besides having the best display, Redmi K20 Pro also wins the hardware comparison. Its processor is definitely more powerful as it is a 2019 Snapdragon 855  chipset and it is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM. Vivo iQOO Neo has an old-gen Snapdragon 845 chipset, so there is no chance it can reach its rival. Honor 20 has a Kirin 980 which is less powerful than Snapdragon 855, and it only comes with 6 GB of RAM even in its most expensive variant. The story would be different if we talked about the Honor 20 Pro, but that is another handset.

Camera

If we exclude the processor, Vivo iQOO Neo is essentially a midrange and it does not feature a really impressive camera. The situation changes when it comes to Redmi K20 Pro and Honor 20 which come with impressive rear departments. Honor 20 is my favorite one with its dedicated macro camera and its amazing 32 MP selfie camera, but Redmi K20 Pro is still an awesome camera phone which is more or less at the same level when it comes to photo quality.

Battery

Finally, a side on which Vivo iQOO Neo wins: battery life. Due to its huge 4500 mAh unit, Vivo iQOO Neo will probably last more on a single charge with most of the usage patterns. But the Redmi K20 Pro charges faster thanks to a 27W power. Honor 20 is the most disappointing one with a just 3750 mAh capacity for its battery.

Price

Vivo iQOO is the most affordable: it starts from just €230/$260 in China. Redmi K20 Pro starts from €350/$395 in China, while Honor 20 costs €500/$565 on the global market. Overall Redmi K20 Pro is the most balanced phone and I would spend those €120 more to get it as it offers a better SoC and better cameras.

Recently, an upcoming Vivo V1914A smartphone was spotted on the database of China’s 3C certification body. Soon after its appearance, the rumor mill started speculating that it could be the second iQOO gaming phone from the company. Speculations turned to be true as Vivo has confirmed that its next iQOO phone will be called Vivo iQOO Neo. Now, the Vivo V1914A iQOO Neo phone has appeared on TENAA with its preliminary specs.

Vivo iQOO Neo TENAA listing

The Vivo iQOO Neo TENAA listing now contains only the preliminary specs of the phone. It reveals that the phone measures 159.53 x 75.23 x 8.13mm. In terms of dimensions, it seems to be similar to the Vivo iQOO phone that measures 157.7 x 75.2 x 8.5mm. The Vivo iQOO features a 6.41-inch AMOLED display whereas the iQOO Neo has 6.38-inch display. Also, it features a 4,420mAh minimum capacity battery which is a bit bigger than the 4,000mAh battery that powers the Vivo iQOO. The 3C listing of the phone has confirmed that it will carry support for 22.5W rapid charging.

The other specifications of the Vivo iQOO NEO are expected to surface soon once its TENAA listing gets updated. Recent reports have claimed that the iQOO Neo may come with Snapdragon 710 or Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and Android 9 Pie OS.

The Vivo iQOO Neo image shows that the handset will be resembling the Snapdragon 855 Vivo iQOO smartphone that was unveiled in April in China. Like the original iQOO, t the Neo version will have a waterdrop-style notch display and a vertical triple camera setup at the upper-left corner of the back panel.

The LED flash and the camera unit are placed together on the Vivo iQOO Neo. However, the iQOO smartphone has the LED flash separately from its triple camera module. The absence of a conventional fingerprint reader from is rear indicates that it could be featuring an OLED panel with in-screen fingerprint sensor. The bottom edge of the phone seems to be equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-C port.

There is an orange colored key on the left spine of the iQOO Neo phone. Probably, it could be used to access some sort of gaming feature or the Jovi AI assistant. The right edge of the smartphone features a volume rocker and a power key. The poster confirms that the Vivo iQOO Neo will be coming in Black and color gradient Purple color. The Black one has a textured appeal on its rear.
