At the end of 2018, Vivo had released Android 9 Pie closed beta for few of it smartphones such as Vivo NEX S, NEX A, X21 UD and X21 in China. Since it was a closed beta update, it was made available for limited number of 5,000 users in the home market. With the beginning of year 2019, the Chinese manufacturer has now proclaimed the arrival of open beta update for aforementioned smartphones in the home country.

In order to receive the Android 9 Pie open beta, one needs to enroll for it. Users in China are required to download the official recruitment app from the company and install the latest edition of the FunTouch OS. Owners of Vivo NEX S, NEX A, X21 UD and X21 in China can enroll until Jan. 6. There is no limit on the number of recruits since it is an open beta update. The update will be pushed to the user from Jan. 8.

The size of the Android 9 Pie beta is 2.71 GB. It not only includes the latest version of Android, but also other goodies such as Jovi Smart Scene, Jovi Smart Voice Assistant, Jovi Wisdom Map, improved UI, game box, camera optimizations, and more. Apart from the ones mentioned above, Vivo is yet to confirm on the names of the other phones that will be treated with Android 9.0 Pie update.

Vivo had released around 30 smartphones in 2018. Among them, there are many low-budget phones. The Chinese manufacturer is likely to prioritize on the releasing the Android 9 Pie update first for its high-end phones from 2018. The Vivo NEX Dual Display smartphone that was unveiled in December 2018 is the first phone from the company to come preloaded with Android 9 Pie. In India, the Vivo V11 Pro has been one of the most search smartphones in 2018. Hopefully, the Android 9 Pie will be also available for it later this year.

The Vivo NEX comes in two variants – the NEX S which has a Snapdragon 845 processor and an in-display fingerprint scanner and the NEX A which has a Snapdragon 710 processor and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It appears Vivo is working on a NEX A variant with an in-display fingerprint scanner based on recent reports.

A device which is believed to be a Vivo NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner has gotten its 3C certification. The document shows the device’s name as Vivo NEX UD A. If you are familiar with Vivo devices, then you should know UD is short for “Under Display” which leads us to believe this is the NEX A with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Vivo is not new to releasing two variants of the same phone whose only distinguishing feature is the position of the fingerprint scanner. The Vivo X20 Plus and the Vivo X20 Plus UD is an example.

Apart from the position of the fingerprint sensor, the Vivo NEX A UD should share the same specs as its sibling. So it should launch with a 6.59” Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 710 chipset, 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and an 8MP front-facing camera that pops-up from the middle frame.

The battery capacity should remain 4,000mAh with support for fast charging via a USB Type-C port. Vivo has managed to become one of the best Chinese companies, even though it was only established in China. Now, Vivo’s focus is no longer limited to China. The BBK-owned hi-tech giant has announced that its latest flagship Vivo NEX will soon hit the global market. The handset will initially come in five selected markets: Russia, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and this will happen within the end of July. The news comes from an official press release so there is not any doubt about the global launch.

Vivo NEX has been released in two variants: NEX S and NEX A, embracing two different price ranges. The first version ranges from CNY 4498 to 4998 in China, which roughly translates into €580 and €640, while the second version costs €510. Both the variants are concept phones made real, with a whopping 91 percent screen-to-body ratio and a motorized pop-up front camera for selfies. They also sport an in-display fingerprint reader. The display has a size of 6.59 inches, the Super AMOLED technology and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2316 pixels, without notch.

The design is composed of a glass back and an aluminum frame just like most of the premium flagship phones. Under the hood of the Vivo NEX S, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset (an octa-core running at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz) supported by 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage depending on the chosen configuration. The NEX A instead sports an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC with a 2.2 GHz clock frequency, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The main camera department is a dual setup with 12 and 5 MP resolutions, while the secondary one has an 8 MP resolution. Both the variants have a big 4000 mAh battery.

Earlier this month, Vivo launched its two new smartphones — Vivo NEX S and NEX A. Now, the company is all set to launch Vivo NEX series smartphone in the Indian market on July 19.

Vivo has now started sending out media invites for the 19th July launch event in India where the company will launch Vivo NEX series smartphone. While the invite makes it clear that the company will be debuting a NEX series smartphone, it’s still not clear if both smartphones will be launched or only the more affordable NEX A will come to India.

One of the highlights of the smartphone is that it comes with an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper automatically rises and hides on opening and closing camera app, and also makes a sound to notify the user. This is done using micro-stepping motors with independent drive ICs and precision control algorithms.

The device features a third-generation in-display fingerprint scanning technology that improves the screen unlock time by 10 percent and increases the overall experience of phone unlocking. On the back side, there’s a dual camera setup which consists of 12-megapixel sensors, primary being a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4μm pixels, f/1.8 aperture, and four-axis optical image stabilization and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

The smartphone comes with a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED Ultra FullView “Zero Screen” Display with a screen-to-body ratio of 91.24 percent and 2316 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. All the sensors on the device are hidden under the display and instead of an earpiece, the phone comes with a Screen SoundCasting Technology.

The Vivo NEX S is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor along with Adreno 630 GPU. It packs 4GB RAM and comes in two internal storage options — 128GB and 256GB. On the other hand, the Vivo NEX A comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC and packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

It comes equipped with the company’s own personal voice assistant — Jovi, which works on artificial intelligence technology. The phone also has Vivo Game Engine, which is made in partnership with Tencent Games. It aims to provide an immersive gaming experience based on software and hardware optimization.

Eleven days after its official announcement event, Vivo NEX has finally hit the shelves. For now, the launch is limited to the Chinese market: the handset has hit the shelves for the first time on June 23 and now we finally know its price. As we know since the official announcement, the handset has been launched in three variants: there are a NEX A variant and two configurations of the NEX S version. The first one carries a price tag of 3898 Yuan which roughly translates into $599. The NEX S in the configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage costs 4498 Yuan (roughly $690), while the most expensive one with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB ROM costs 5998 Yuan (about $769).

Note that Vivo NEX A is a lower-end version of the flagship as it features an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz, while the other two variants pack an octa-core Snapdragon 845 flagship-level chipset with a max frequency of 2.8 GHz. The memory configurations are different as well: the NEX A is equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Going ahead the hardware side, each variant of the Vivo NEX has a glass back and an aluminum frame, as well as a full borderless display with a screen-to-body ratio superior to 91 percent. Today, at a launch event in China, Vivo has announced its much-anticipated smartphones — Vivo NEX. The Vivo NEX is the production version of the Vivo Apex smartphone that was showcased by the China-based company during the Mobile World Congress.

The smartphone comes with a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED Ultra FullView “Zero Screen” Display with a screen-to-body ratio of 91.24 percent and 2316 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. All the sensors on the device are hidden under the display. Instead of an earpiece, the phone comes with a Screen SoundCasting Technology which promises better bass and softer treble.

The mid-end variant has the same specs as that of the highest-end variant except for the internal storage as it packs 128GB storage.

The cheapest variant among the three, which is called Vivo NEX A, comes powered by Qualcomm’s recently launched Snapdragon 710 SoC, along with 6GB RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. All three models are powered by a 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging support. Connectivity options on the devices include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C.

Further, the smartphones come equipped with the company’s own personal voice assistant — Jovi, which works on artificial intelligence technology. It supports several functionalities such as smart map reading, encyclopedia, shopping, translation, scanning, and screen recognition among others.

Vivo says that Jovi will keep learning based on the understanding of the user actions. There’s a dedicated button on the side of the camera that triggers Jovi AI voice assistant on the long-press action. The company says that it has established AI joint laboratories with partners with an aim to provide a brand new user experience through AI intelligence.

The smartphone comes with Vivo’s newly designed custom user interface Energy UI with AI technology, running on top of Android Oreo operating system out of the box. Further, the device also supports engine-level SDK optimization, HPUE technology antenna layout, and a zero-sensor cooling system.

The Vivo NEX will be available in two color options — Diamond Black and Ruby Red. The Vivo NEX smartphone is launching tomorrow and the rumor mill seems to have gone berserk as plenty of information have surfaced on it in the past 24 hours. Apart from a report on the leaked hands-on video, most of the recent leaks have only revealed the specs and pricing of the Vivo NEX, NEX A and NEX S smartphones. Earlier today, a Chinese leakster had shared new photos of the phone on Weibo. The new images have surfaced to show the Vivo NEX in real skin before its official launch.

The rear side of the phone has a vertical dual camera setup that is placed at the top-left corner of the phone. Its posterior also features a squarish fingerprint scanner. This could be the “Vivo NEX” variant that had momentarily appeared with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader on the official website in the previous week. The backside of the handset seems to be made out of glass.

The other two images give a clearer view of the frontside of the Vivo NEX. The pop-up camera is clearly in one of the images. The handset is expected to arrive with a massive display of 6.59 inches. The leaked photos suggest that smartphone will indeed offer an impressive screen space. As it can be seen in the image, the chin of the device is a bit thicker than other bezels that surround the screen. The variants have just appeared on a 3C listing. In case you do not know, 3C is a Chinese agency that verifies the eligibility of products for the consumers market. The three versions are dubbed as Vivo NEX, NEX A and NEX S.

We already heard about the NEX S variant which has recently appeared on Geekbench, but we never heard about the NEX A until now. 3C did not reveal any of the main specs of the smartphone. From the listing, we can just acknowledge that they support 5V / 2A, 9V / 2A and 10V /2.25A charging profiles. According to speculations, the NEX A may be a China-exclusive variant of the upcoming device, while the other two variants will hit markets outside of China as well.

Vivo NEX will sport a borderless design with a screen-to-body ratio near to 100 percent. In order to achieve this, the company has decided to implement a “periscope” selfie camera which can be extracted in a fraction of second from the top side of the device.
