Chinese smartphone maker vivo shared Funtouch OS 11 (Android 11) update plan for India in early January. Keeping up with the schedule, the company has started rolling out this update for the vivo V17 Pro in the country.

A few days back, vivo began to seed the FuntouchOS 11 update for the regular vivo V17 in India. Now, this update is live for vivo V17 Pro as well.

According to a report by PiunikaWeb, the Android 11 update for vivo V17 Pro is currently under greyscale testing. In simpler words, the latest update is only available for a select few users of this smartphone.

For those unaware, vivo greyscale testing is similar to Xiaomi MIUI Stable Beta. These types of builds are made available for only a few users to test their stability before rolling out to everyone. In this way, companies can avoid catastrophe if there are problems with the software build.

Anyway, the vivo V17 Pro FuntouchOS 11 (Android 11) update should be available for all the users in India very soon. However, we cannot tell for sure how long it will take for the company to seed it out to everyone.

That said, Android 11 should be the last major software update for the vivo V17 Pro since vivo is not known for providing more than two Android updates. This handset debuted with Android 9.0-based Funtouch OS 9.1 was updated to Android 10 (Funtouch OS 10) last year.

A new report on Russian publication Hi-tech Mail has live shots of the upcoming Vivo V17 smartphone.

The front image of the Vivo V17 reveals that it features a display with teardrop notch. The right edge of the phone has a volume rocker and a power key. The bottom side of the phone seems to be decked with a microphone, a USB-C and an external speaker. The display of the phone is integrated with an in-screen fingerprint reader.

The iridescent back panel of the Vivo V17 has a diamond-shaped camera module like the upcoming Vivo S5 phone that will be debuting in China on Nov. 11. However, the placement of the camera sensors on the Vivo V17 is slightly different from that of Vivo S5. The rear shell of the Vivo V17 seems to be made out of glass.

The publication has revealed that the Vivo V17 has a 48-megapixel primary camera on its back. There is no confirmation on the processor that powers the device. It seems to be equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. The device is expected to come with a 4,500mAh battery.

The Vivo V17 could be heading soon to markets like Russia and India. It is speculated that the Vivo V17 may get in the last week of this month and it will be made available for purchase by the first week of December in India. It is likely to be priced around Rs. 25,000 (~$352).

Vivo V17 Pro, the premium mid-range smartphone from the Chinese brand, which was launched in India last month, has now received a price cut. The company has announced a price cut of ₹2,000, roughly $28.

The smartphone packs 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage and was launched for ₹29,990 (~$422) but is now available for ₹27,990 (~$394) after the price cut just a few weeks after its official launch.

The new pricing of the smartphone is now reflecting on the eCommerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. It seems that the price cut is also applicable for the offline stores. The Vivo V17 Pro comes in two color options — Midnight Ocean and Glacier Ice.

According to the official announcement by Vivo at the time of launch last week, the V17 Pro was scheduled to be sold offline starting Sept. 27. However, 91mobiles has just posted that the smartphone is now available at offline vendors, a day ahead of launch. .

According to the publication, retailers from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan have confirmed that Vivo has reduced the sales target of offline vendors by 15 percent. The reason behind this move could be because of the processor powering the V17 Pro. Under the hood of the Vivo V17 Pro is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC that also fueled the Vivo V15 Pro smartphone that had gone official earlier this year. Vivo is gearing up to debut the Vivo V17 series of smartphones. A recent report had revealed that the Vivo V17 Pro could be equipped with as many as six cameras. A leaked image had revealed that four of them are placed on the rear whereas the remaining two are housed inside in a pop-up camera module. The promotional image of the Vivo V17 Pro has been leaked by 91mobiles confirms that the phone could be debuting as the world’s first dual pop-up selfie camera phone.

The image reveals that the Vivo V17 Pro continues to sport a notch-less display like the predecessor Vivo V15 Pro that had gone official at the beginning of this year. The promo pic also shows that the phone is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Also, a wide pop-up camera module with camera lenses can be seen above the display.

The corners of the V17 Pro are rounded, but its rear design is not clearly visible. The image suggests that the rear-mounted quad camera system is not placed at the top-left corner. The previously leaked image of the phone (shown below) shows that the quad camera system is placed towards the center of the back panel. It is speculated that the camera setup will be equipped enhanced zooming capabilities. The below image shows that the smartphone will be available in two color editions.

The publication has learnt from its source it will begin training retail employees on the Vivo V17 Pro from Sept. 9. It has further stated that the handset may go official by the end of September. As of this writing, there is no information available on the standard Vivo V17.

Vivo India is currently preparing to introduce the Vivo Z1X smartphone in India. It is said that it is the Indian version of the Vivo Z5 phone that was unveiled in China in July. Vivo India is expected to use the same release strategy that it had used for the Vivo V17 series. The company may debut the Vivo V17 Pro handset first and later it may also introduce the Vivo V17 phone. The Vivo V17 Pro may go official as early as in the next month.

The Chinese firm has recently confirmed that it will be launching the Vivo Z1X smartphone in India on Sept. 6. The handset is rumored to arrive as a rebadged version of the Vivo Z5 that had gone official in China in July. The Vivo Z1X is expected to come with a 6.39-inch S-AMOLED display with in-screen fingerprint reader, Snapdragon 712 SoC, triple rear cameras and 4,500mAh battery with fast charging through USB-C. It could be priced higher than the Vivo Z1 Pro.

Vivo has reportedly discontinued the Vivo V15 and V15 Pro smartphones in India. Fresh information reveals that Vivo India is now working on Vivo V17 series and it may debut before Diwali festival season which will take place in the country in October. A smartphone called Vivo V17 Neo may belong to the Vivo V17 series since it has been found listed on Google Play Console.

Citing information received from its sources, 91mobiles has reported that the Vivo V17 will one of the first smartphones in India to come with a pop-up selfie camera module with two selfie snappers inside it. Also, it could be equipped with four cameras on its rear. However, the source is not very confident about it. There is no information available on the specifications of the smartphone.

Since Diwali is a popular festival in India, smartphone manufacturers are known for announcing before it. Vivo India too seems to be gearing up to make the most of it by announcing the Vivo V17 ahead of the festival. It is speculated that the company may also an advanced Vivo V17 Pro handset alongside the Vivo V17.

A Google Play listing of a smartphone labelled as Vivo V17 with model number 1907N has been spotted. The moniker suggests that it may belong to the upcoming Vivo V17 series for India. The listing reveals that it is equipped with a waterdrop-style notch display that offers full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The MediaTek Helio P65 chipset (mentioned as MT6768 on listing) that was introduced on the Vivo S1 will be also powering the Vivo V17 Neo smartphone.

The Vivo V17 Neo boots to Android 9 Pie OS along with FunTouch OS UI. The SoC of the smartphone is coupled with 4 GB of RAM. The listing has no information on the battery capacity and camera configurations. As of this writing, there are no details available on the pricing of the Vivo V17 and V17 Neo smartphones.
