Vivo is gradually pushing the OriginOS 6 update to the final phase of eligible devices. The Vivo V40e and iQOO Z9s also belong to this phase and have now started receiving the Android 16-based major upgrade.

Those with the Vivo V40e are getting the latest update with the firmware version PD2406JF_EX_A_16.2.10.1.W20, while the iQOO Z9s are receiving the update tagged with version PD2406F_EX_A_16.2.10.1.W30, as spotted by Ytechb. While the firmware versions differ, the updates mainly introduce the same set of new features and upgrades on both smartphones. (We’ll talk more about it in a bit.)

As the rollout has just gone live, it’s currently limited to users who have participated in the trial program. To get the OriginOS 6 update without further wait, you must sign up for this program by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System updates > version Trial > Trial version > download and install.

Now, coming to the changes, there are plenty of visual changes and new features to be excited about, including a new Origin Island for real-time updates and improved multitasking. The improved Control Center now features an enhanced notification center, improved lighting effects, and new system fonts.

Specifications

Under the hood, both smartphones are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC, which is paired with up to 8GB of RAM (12GB on the V40e) and 256GB of internal storage. Performance between the devices should be quite similar with the differences mainly being with battery life. A massive 5,500mAh battery pack powers the Vivo V40e, which supports 80W wired fast charging. Meanwhile, the Edge 50 Neo is a smaller 4,310mAh cell that offers 68W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging support.

This is a sizeable difference so the former likely has a better battery life. Although, having wireless charging support is a positive on Motorola’s side. Other similar features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, IP rating for water and dust protection, and Android 14 OS out of the box.

Camera

An area where the Vivo V40e is expected to shine is the photography department. While Motorola has a more versatile setup with a 50MP (Sony LYT700C Main) + 13MP (Ultrawide) + 10MP (Telephoto) and a 32MP (Selfie) cameras, the Vivo V40 series was supposed to offer top notch photography experience without the flagship pricing. The V40e doesn’t offer the same Zeiss lens but its 50MP Sony IMX882 main sensor is paired with an 8MP ultra wide angle lens.

There is also an Aura Light RING LED flash on the rear that can be used to adjust the color temperature while clicking low-light images. On the front, you get a 50MP selfie shooter. This model offers features like OIS + EIS, AI eraser, AI portrait enhancer, and more.

Pricing and Verdict

The Vivo V40e has a starting price tag of 28,999 INR for the 8GB + 128GB option, while the 12GB + 256GB variant costs 30,999 INR. This makes it more expensive than the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, which is currently on sale for just 23,999 INR for its lone 8GB + 256GB storage configuration.

So the Edge 50 Neo is a great feature packed compact phone that offers great value for its price. You get a vegan body, compact form factor, great durability, and budget friendly pricing. Its camera setup is decent as well, with support for wireless charging as well. But if you prefer a bigger screen, a good main camera, and more RAM for gaming, the Vivo V40e is a good mid range option as well.

After the launch of the Vivo V40 and the V40 Pro in India a few months back, the brand is now gearing up to launch the Vivo V40e smartphone on September 25. Various details about the device have surfaced via leaks and teasers, so here’s a compilation of everything known about the V40e so far.

Starting off with the design, the Vivo V40e will follow the design language of the earlier launched models in the lineup, offering a curved back with curved edges, measuring just 7.49 mm and weighing around 183 grams. The back of the phone is revealed to feature a pill-shaped camera module. As for color options, the device will be launched in Royal Bronze and Mint Green.

The brand has announced that the Vivo V40e will come with a 6.77-inch AMOLED display featuring curved edges. The screen will offer a Full HD+ resolution of 2392 x 1080 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, support for the P3 color gamut, an 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 10-bit color depth. The new information arrives from a SmartPrix report. It seems like the V40e will launch in two color options, namely Monsoon Green and Royal Bronze. We shared an image of the latter in our recent report. Vivo V40e is expected to launch in two storage configurations, namely 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. The mid range phone is expected to be sold in India within the 20,000 INR to 30,000 INR price range. So it will likely compete with the OnePlus Nord 4 and Nothing Phone (2a).

The report also shared more specs of the Vivo V40e. It is rumored to sport a tall 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and likely has an FHD+ resolution. Under the hood, the Vivo V04e could be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC.

Now that the brand has already unveiled a couple of the V40 series of smartphones, it appears that the brand is now gearing up to unveil the Vivo V40e 5G. The said device was recently spotted with model number V2403 in Bluetooth SIG’s database. The same phone has also surfaced in Geekbench’s database, revealing its chipset, RAM, and storage.

The Vivo V40e’s Geekbench listing reveals that it is powered by a MediaTek’s 2.5GHz octa-core chipset. It mentions that the device has the k6878v1_64 motherboard and a Mali G615 MC2 GPU (via source code).

These details are enough to claim that the Vivo V40e has the Dimensity 7300 chip onboard. To recall, the V30e came equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. The D7300 also powers the likes of the Oppo Reno 12 series, the Nothing CMF Phone 1, and the Motorola Razr 2024.

The Geekbench listing also lists Android 14 and 8 GB of RAM as features of the Vivo V40e. In the single-core and multi-core tests, the device scored 1028 and 2938 points, respectively. Apart from the details that have emerged through the V40e’s Geekbench appearance, nothing else is known about its other specifications.

In India, the Vivo V30e debuted with a price tag of Rs 27,999. Therefore, it appears that the V40e could also arrive with a sub-Rs 30,000 price tag.

In related news, a device dubbed the Vivo V40e 5G was spotted with model number V2418 in the IMEI database. At present, there is no new information on what specs the V2418 handset will offer.
