However, at that time, the company had not disclosed the official name of the device. Yesterday, Vivo had a launch event to unleash the X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint version that is also known as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-x20-plus-ud/">Vivo X20 Plus UD</a>. Customers who are interested in buying the smartphone should be aware of the fact that its in-screen fingerprint sensor will not work with screen protectors of certain thickness.</p>
<p>The fingerprint sensor is placed beneath the outer glass and OLED panel of the phone. Hence, a scratch to the display area can cause the fingerprint reader to malfunction. Hence, users will have to make use of a screen protector on the X20 Plus UD. However, it should be noted that a thick screen protector will not allow the fingerprint scanner to function properly.</p>
<p>To deliver seamless experience with under-display fingerprint sensor on the new X20 Plus, the company is providing a thin screen protector in the box package of the phone. The thin screen protector will not only safeguard the screen but also to unlock it by pressing the fingerprint icon. If the customer wants to replace the screen protector that is provided with the phone, Vivo will be selling the right kind of screen protectors for the X20 Plus UD.</p>

<p>Vivo X20 Plus UD is now available for reservations in China. The company will begin the pre-sales of the phone from Jan. 29 in the home country followed by the market release on Feb. 1. Currently, the handset that is currently priced at 3,598 Yuan (~$565) is exclusively available in China. The company did not confirm any information on making the phone available outside of China.</p>
<p>In the near future, the smartphone industry is likely to see more phones with under-display fingerprint scanner. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/09/samsung-galaxy-note-9-reportedly-arriving-display-fingerprint-scanner/">Multiple reports</a> have claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 that will be launching later this year may come with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/08/06/samsung-galaxy-note-9-speculated-come-screen-fingerprint-scanner/">in-screen fingerprint scanner</a>.</p>

The Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint Version is just a tad different from the regular X20 Plus which before now was already available in several editions. Here are some unboxing pictures of the X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint version for your delight.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-14.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169231" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-14.jpg?x44794" alt=" Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint version" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-14.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-14-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>To refresh your minds about the new innovative version, it comes with a slightly slimmer dimension of 165.2 x 80.02 x 7.35 mm as compared to the 165.3 x 80.1 x 7.5mm dimension utilized on the regular <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-x20-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">X20 Plus.</a> This new model weighs 183.1 grams, more than the 181.5 grams weight the regular model carries. Unlike the regular variants that are almost available in all the primary colors, the on-screen fingerprint model is available in Black only with a gold design by the sides. But we must state that the design of both models is almost identical except for few omissions like the rear fingerprint sensor. Of course, you why that isn&#8217;t available.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-5.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169221" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-5.jpg?x44794" alt=" Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint version" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-5.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-5-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint edition sports a 6.43-inch Super-AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It also comes with the 18:9 aspect ratio. The full-screen display design is same with the regular model except that there is a fingerprint icon on the display which is where the finger presses to unlock the device.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169219" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-3.jpg?x44794" alt=" Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint version" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-3-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>As you already know, it doesn&#8217;t pack a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor because of the in-screen technology which is represented by a fingerprint icon on the display screen. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/09/vivo-unveils-first-phone-synaptics-display-fingerprint-scanner-ces-2018/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fingerprint sensor supplied by Synaptics</a> is located between the front glass and display panel. It uses photoelectric reflection technology in which the RGB Pixel that is specially adapted to the OLED panel emits light which penetrates the outer glass that has a thickness of 0.68mm to reach the finger. The new unlock technology does its job in just 0.6 to 0.7 seconds. Apart from unlocking the phone, it can be also used for making secure payments through AliPay and WeChat.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-169220" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Vivo X20 Plus In-Screen Fingerprint Version" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-4.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vivo-X20-Plus-In-Screen-Fingerprint-Version-4-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

The technology at play happens to make the X20 Plus version the world&#8217;s first In-screen fingerprint smartphone and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/22/vivo-x20-plus-screen-fingerprint-version-will-unveiled-january-24/">would be launched in China on January 24</a>. Vivo has already sent out invitations to the launch event and we had seen a poster in that regard, stating the venue of the launch.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168767" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-1.jpg?x44794" alt="vivo x20 plus" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>However, the official invitation to the launch had not been seen until now and it actually unlocks some interesting details. ITHome got an invitation card to the event and interestingly, the invitation card doesn&#8217;t look like the ordinary ones we may have seen in the past. It comes with an innovative imitation of the in-display fingerprint sensor and the imitation actually works! Well, except that when it is pressed with the finger, it reveals an embedded two-dimensional QR code. When the QR code is scanned with a smartphone, it opens a webpage where the evolution of the phone unlock is chronicled right from the days of Nokia phones and Motorola flip phones to the present set of unlocking technology.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Vivo X20 Plus UD" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/vivo-x20-plus-ud-2-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>The Vivo X20 Plus In-screen fingerprint version looks very similar in design to the regular version which has gotten quite a number of variation presently. The major difference is that there is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, instead, the device comes with a  fingerprint module under the screen. The location of the fingerprint module seems to be lit-up with the fingerprint icon displayed, perhaps for ease of identification. The fingerprint sensor unlocks the device is just about 0.6s – 0.7 seconds which isn&#8217;t bad for a new technology making its debut for the first time. With time, the unlock speed will improve. In addition, chances of false recognition are said to be one in 50,000. The technology has been tailored to also bring efficiency to other basic fingerprint identification needs. The tech giant hinted that the fingerprint technology has even reached the level where it can be adopted for fingerprint payment authentication on platforms like WeChat, AliPay etc. In less than 24 hours from now, we&#8217;ll find out more details of the device as well as the retail price.</p>
