Vivo is at it again with its latest full-screen X20 smartphone which has got a number of editions than we can keep count of. The Vivo X20 has now got a Swarovski Gift Box Version which comes with a Swarovski crystal necklace valued at 999 Yuan. The new version is available for both the Vivo X20 and X20 Plus.

The necklace comes with a pendant manufactured using X-Cut technology to create a 32 section diamond version. Each crystal necklace is equipped with a professional jewellery testing certificate while the jewellery box is equipped with Swarovski’s official authorized tag which guarantees the originality of the necklace.

Apart the customised necklace, the Vivo X20 Swarovski Gift Box edition features the same specification with the previous versions.The new edition retains the all-metal body of the other versions. It features a similar 6.01-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660 chipset, 12MP + 5-MP dual rear cameras, 12MP selfie shooter and a 3,250mAh battery. The new Vivo X20 Swarovski Gift Box edition is available in 4GB + 64GB memory version priced at 2998 yuan, and 4GB + 128GB memory version priced 3,398 Yuan. On the other hand, the Vivo 20 Plus is available in 4GB + 64GB memory and is priced at 3498 Yuan (~$483). The new version is now opened for booking at Jingdong and would go on sale as from December 25.

Vivo announced a new King of Glory Edition for the sleek Vivo X20 last week with the model billed to go on sale from December 8. The new Vivo X20 king of Glory Edition is based on the popular multiplayer online battle game from Tencent Games and is actually meant to commemorate the game’s second anniversary. The Vivo X20 is the second phone from BBK holdings which would be available in a commemorative edition for the game after the OPPO R11 King of Glory special edition smartphone which was announced recently.

The phone has got a very attractive paint job and is coated in two colors red and black. The upper V-shaped red portion is said to represent vitality and passion while the black portion represents calm and strength. On the lower part of the back panel, you’ll find a gold-plated logo of the game.

Apart from the beautiful colouring of the body, the Vivo X20 king of Glory Edition is scarcely different from the normal edition but is available with 6GB of RAM only. However, the FunTouch OS running on the Vivo X20 King of Glory Anniversary Limited Edition is heavily customized with game’s themes. Also, the smartphone will ship in an exclusive gift box which also looks attractive and has the King of Glory logo crested on top. The gift box also contains a complimentary earphone in addition to the charger and USB cable. As far as pricing of the smartphone goes, it carries a price tag of 3,498 Yuan (~$529). Vivo has announced a new Blue colour variant for the newly launched Vivo X20 full-screen flagship model. The brings to five the number of colour options users get to choose from. The X20 was initially announced with Matte Black, Black Gold and Rose Gold colours and the company recently announced a special Black and Gold combination variant.

The new Vivo X20 Blue variant will be available to buy from November 11. The Blue variant has the same price tag as the other models, standing at 2,998 Yuan ($452) for the 64GB model, with the higher-end 128GB storage variant going up for 3,398 Yuan ($513). The Blue colour variant is available in the 64GB storage option.

The Vivo X20 looks good in blue colour even though the bezels around the display still retain their black colour. As a reminder, the model features a 6.01-inch FHD display and is powered by the super-efficient Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 4GB of RAM while the internal memory is 64GB and a higher variant has 128GB storage onboard. The premium mid-ranger also packs a 12MP + 5MP dual main cameras while there is a capable 12MP selfie shooter up front. that is paired with a 12MP front-facing camera selfie cam. Keeping the lights on is a decent 3,250mAh non-removable battery while the interface is provided by Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

The Vivo X20 was unveiled today in China. The new smartphone is Vivo’s second full-screen smartphone, coming weeks after the announcement of the Vivo V7 Plus in India.

Vivo X20 and Vivo X20 Plus Design

The Vivo X20 and X20 Plus feature a 3D arc design that is designed to provide a comfortable grip in your palm. The 1.8mm U-shaped antenna lines are seamlessly integrated into the device using a new generation nano-injection molding process. The rest of the body is finished with an ultra-fine zirconium sand spray process that gives it a silky smooth feel.

Vivo X20 and Vivo X20 Plus Specs

The Vivo X20 has a 6.01 inch 18:9 display that occupies 85.3% of the front of the phone. It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 paired with 4GB of RAM. Owners will be able to choose between 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage.  The X20 has an AK4376A for HiFi audio and packs a 3245mAh battery under the hood.

The Vivo X20 Plus has a larger 6.43-inch 2160 x 1080 super AMOLED display crammed in a 5.85-inch body. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 660 mobile platform and packs the same amount of RAM. However, storage is limited to 64GB but one can add up to and additional 256GB via a MicroSD card slot.

The X20 Plus also differs in the camera aspect as its sensors have OIS. It has an ES9318 DAC + amp for Hi-Fi audio.  Due to the bigger screen, it packs a 3905mAh battery capacity.

There is dual SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, dual band WiFi, and a micro USB port for connectivity on both devices. There are also fingerprint scanners on the back of the phones that support payment and can control the cameras too.

Both the Vivo X20 And Vivo X20 Plus run FunTouch OS 3.0 based on Android  7.1.1 out of the box. There is a built-in AI assistant that learns your usage pattern, channeling processing power to your most used apps.

There is also a new Vivo Game Engine that greatly improves game-play even for very demanding games. The game engine also makes sure that incoming calls or notifications do not affect game-play. If you need to respond to messages from chat apps, a floating and re-sizeable window of the app will appear. It seems only WeChat and QQ are supported for now.

Face Wake

There are two ways to unlock the X20 – using the fingerprint scanner or using the new Face Wake feature. Face Wake is said to unlock the device in just 0.1s. Vivo claims it detects up to 128 different facial features before proceeding to unlock the phone.

Vivo X20 and Vivo X20 Plus Cameras

Vivo like its sibling OPPO, makes camera-centric phones and the X20 and X20 Plus don’t disappoint. There are dual rear cameras on both phones in a 12MP + 5MP combination. The 12MP f/1.8 sensor is unique as it can take images up to 24MP. Pair that with the 5MP secondary sensor and you get high quality bokeh images. The 12MP f/2.0 dual-pixel front facing camera uses the same technology and also takes portrait images.

Vivo also says it has worked on an image sensor processor unit it calls Vivo Image Cube. This is actually a 256MB dual-core image sensor processor (DSP).

Vivo X20 and Vivo X20 Plus Pricing and Availability

The Vivo X20 will start at ¥2998 (~$455) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB model. For double the storage, Vivo is asking for ¥3398 (~$515). The Plus model will cost ¥3498 (~$530). Both phones will be available in gold, rose gold and matte black.

Vivo is expected to officially launch the Vivo X20 today, September 21 in China. Funny enough, it might all just be a formality because the specifications of the device are already known via its appearances of TENAA, benchmark apps and in several leaks. Now, the Vivo X20 has featured in a leaked hands-on video just before its launch. 

The hands-on video is a short clip but showcases both the front and rear aspects of the device. It is not as if this is the first time we are seeing the real photos of the X20 but this is the first hands-on video we’ll be meeting. The X20 model captured in the video comes in light gray color which will likely be one of several color variants Vivo will make the device available in. The hands-on video shows a full-screen device with what would be a high screen-to-body ratio when compared to previous Vivo models but this is nowhere near a bezel-less smartphone. There are still bezels on all four sides but very much reduced in size. The two sides have ultra-thin bezels while the top edge gets its own fair share of bezels wide enough to accommodate the earpiece and dual selfie cameras.

The rear view shows the X20’s dual cameras will be located at the top left corner with the LED flash lying inwardly by its side. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor which seems to be bigger in size, perhaps to make it easy for the sensor to be accessed on the large-sized model. The X20 will feature a 5.8-inch AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080p resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The model will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest powerful mid-range chip- Snapdragon 660. This would be paired with a 6GB RAM. The X20 should also feature a 24MP dual camera setup on the back and a 24MP front shooter. It also offers facial recognition feature – dubbed Face Unlock – that’s claimed to unlock the device within 0.1s. The phone is expected to pack in a 3,500mAh battery.

The Vivo X20 will be officially unveiled come Thursday, 21st of September. Leaks as well as official teaser posters have revealed that the phone will launch with a full-screen display just like the Vivo V7 Plus launched in India.

Vivo is already preparing stock to be shipped to authorized retailers judging from these leaked images that show Vivo X20 units being packaged for shipment. The pictures were posted on Weibo and one of them shows the back of the retail box, giving us another look at the specs.

The Vivo X20 has a white retail box with the brand name and model written boldly on the front. It however doesn’t have an image of the phone on it. The picture of the back confirms that the 18:9 2K display is 6-inches in size.

It also confirms that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. There is also mention of dual 12MP cameras, another 24MP camera, and Face Wake, its new face unlock technology.

The Vivo X20A will also come with an AK4376A Hi-Fi chip for improved audio performance.

Vivo also teased an all-black Mars Intelligence Agency Special Edition which should have a different retail box from this one.

Just a couple of days back, Vivo officially announced via Weibo post that its full-screen smartphone, the Vivo X20 will launch on September 21. Yesterday, the Chinese tech giant again took to Weibo to announce that the X20 will have a special Mars Intelligent Agency Edition which would be in entirely black color and would likely debut alongside the standard X20.

The Weibo post which teased the MIA edition was accompanied by several images of the X20 with some regalia associated with the show but Vivo didn’t reveal further information on the specification and availability. But since it is a special edition, there may likely be a limited number of units available. The device may also come with a different memory version while still retaining a 5.8-inch display and other specs the X20 is coming with. In case you are wondering what this is all about, Mars Intelligence Agency is a popular TV show in China.

This year 2017 is sure looking likely to have the record of being the year of bezel-less phones. Since Xiaomi released the bezel-less Mi Mix last year, we have lost count of the number of bezel-less phones that have been launched this year alone. From the flagship Galaxy S8 to the budget Doogee Mix, the list continues to grow. Right now, Vivo looks set to join the fray with its own full-screen phone which is dubbed Vivo X20.

Vivo has not been very active this year in its frequency of smartphone releases this year but the sure look set to launch a mid-range flagship-looking model in the X20. The company recently shared two renders of the X20 and from the photos, it can be seen that the device will come in white and black colours. The shape looks very much like the Galaxy S8 with an ultra thin bezel on the upper and lower edges, giving the device a high screen-to-body ratio. The sides look like what will be without bezels.

The device is being projected as Vivo’s first full-screen phone and is expected to utilize an 18:9 aspect ratio, judging from the size of the renders. No further detail is revealed about the X20 but the device is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC. The processor will be backed by 6GB of RAM.The device is also expected to feature a powerful camera configured with Vivo’s latest DSP image processing technology and maybe dual cameras at the front and rear.

As to when the Vivo X20 will be released, we can’t say but we expect more teasers to be released in the coming days.
