Vivo has kicked off beta testing for its next major software update, OriginOS 6, giving early access to users of the Vivo X200 Pro and iQOO 13. The company announced the program on August 22 through its community forum, confirming limited slots and a strict registration window.

Vivo is looking for 500 testers per model, with a total of 1,000 spots available. Registration is open from 10:00 AM on August 22 until 11:59 PM on August 26 (China Standard Time), with the final list of participants to be published by 10:00 PM on August 28. The beta build itself, based on Android 16, will be pushed out starting September 1.

To be eligible, devices must be running the latest system versions — at least 15.0.24.5.W10.V000L1 for the X200 Pro and 15.0.24.15.W10.V000L1 for the iQOO 13. Users can check this via Settings > System Management & Upgrade > System Upgrade > Check for Updates.

Things to keep in mind

Since this is a beta release, Vivo warns that bugs, high power consumption, and app compatibility issues are to be expected. A built-in log tool will run in the background to collect fault data, with an icon showing in the status bar. The company recommends backing up important data before installing the update, even though the process won’t wipe the device.

Other points worth noting: a “confidential” watermark will appear on the interface, apps should be updated through the App Store after upgrading, and Wi-Fi is required for the download to avoid excessive mobile data use. Vivo is also providing a downgrade tool along with a step-by-step guide for users who wish to return to a stable build.

OriginOS 6 is expected to bring a smoother interface and tighter AI integration, though exact features will be revealed closer to launch. For now, the beta is an exclusive chance for enthusiasts to get an early look — and to help Vivo iron out the kinks ahead of the stable rollout.

However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows about this Vivo phone, as it lacks greatness in several areas.

In case you’re looking to buy the Vivo X200 Pro, make sure to read these 6 critical points to ensure you’re making the right decision.

1. Premium look and feel

The design hasn’t changed much from its predecessor, the X100 Pro, but minor adjustments have improved the aesthetics and premium-ness. The camera cluster is a little bigger, taking more space on the back. It’s a heavy phone weighing 223g, but that’s a norm with high-end phones nowadays as they pack additional hardware. It’s the same size as the Galaxy S24 Ultra and, in fact, slightly lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. In fact, the X200 Pro is more comfortable to hold than these two.

Keeping up with trends, Vivo is also making the side aluminum rails more sizable and flatter, as Samsung and Apple have been doing with their last few generations. And with IP68 and IP69 ratings (yes, both), the X200 Pro is better sealed than the majority of smartphones.

2. Excellent display and battery

The X200 Pro rocks an excellent LTPO display that you’ll find nothing to complain about. It’s bright (peaks at 4500 nits) and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. What’s more exciting is that the screen refresh rate can go as low as 0.1Hz to save extra power. There’s also 2160Hz PWM dimming for comfortable viewing at low brightness.

The 6.78-inch OLED screen shows punch colors. The text appears sharp. Even for gaming and media consumption, it’s a great display and probably the best Vivo has to offer. Not to forget, the X200 Pro supports all major HDR video standards, including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision (lacking on the X100 Pro). Streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video lets you enjoy FullHD streams thanks to the Widevine L1 certification.

The battery is another big plus point for the X200 Pro. It easily lasts more than a day on a single charge, and with moderate usage, you can stretch it to two days. That’s a 6,000mAh battery capacity, by the way. The device ships with 90W charging support, which only takes about 45 minutes to reach 100%. There’s also 30W wireless charging support.

3. Smooth performance

The Vivo X200 Pro is rocking the Dimensity 9400, which is MediaTek’s most powerful mobile chipset. It smoothly handles all everyday tasks, such as browsing, scrolling, and streaming. Even high-end games, such as Genshin Impact and Diablo Immortal, run swiftly without any lag. However, the phone gets a little hot, especially when playing high-end games or software.

4. Great cameras (with some flaws)

The biggest upgrade for the Vivo X200 Pro is its telephoto camera. It’s a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor with 3.7x optical zoom, the same sensor from Vivo X100 Ultra that impressed everyone with its zoom shots. The telephoto camera takes nice, detailed shots with accurate colors and dynamic range. Portrait shots are also excellent, though.

Vivo has made a significant change to the X200 Pro’s primary camera. It has got a new sensor, Sony Lytia LYT-818, but that’s a smaller one at 1/1.28-inch (vs. 1-inch on the X100 Pro). It seems like a compromise to fill the gaps with an Ultra model (we’re not sure if X100 Ultra is coming, but it seems so). However, the outputs are excellent in daylight, showing the right exposure and dynamic range. The colors are also acurate and so are the details.

Low-light shots with the portrait sensor are also fantastic, leaving no room for improvement. Macro shots are also too good, with great amount of details and accurate colors. However, the ultrawide camera isn’t as good as I expected. While it brings good colors and dynamic range, the shots are not very sharp. The output quality doesn’t match that of the primary or telephoto sensor.

The selfie camera is another weak area of the X200 Pro. The photos don’t have lots of details, and the lack of autofocus is also not a good thing for a flagship phone. It’s the same sensor from the X100 Pro. It would have been a better choice to include the X100 Ultra’s selfie sensor.

The bottom line is that Vivo X200 Pro has excellent cameras, overall. You won’t probably find such great camera phone at this price point.

5. Improved but still filled with bloatware

The Vivo X200 Pro boots Android 15 out of the box, with a layer of Funtouch OS 15 skin at the top. That’s a plus point, considering many recent flagships were released with Android 14. Vivo has promised 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates for the X200 Pro, the best Vivo has to offer but not the best of all brands. Samsung and Google offer 7 years of Android updates.

The software is more polished and smooth, thanks to Funtouch OS 15 optimizations. It feels snappier, and there are plenty of new features and customizations as well. However, the bloatware is still there. You still get plenty of unnecessary apps pre-installed on the device, though most can be removed manually.

6. Pricing and best offers

After an October launch in China, the Vivo X200 Pro recently entered the global market, including India.

The X200 Pro with 16GB RAM, 512GB storage is currently available for Rs. 94,999. With bank offers, you can bring the price down to Rs. 85,499. You can also ship it to the US and more parts of the world via Giztop and other retailers for $849.

We just put up our Unboxing and Hands on video of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro. This smartphone is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone. But how does it compare to some other premium phones from China, which recently had their global debut? Here’s a quick comparison of the Mate 70 Pro with the Oppo Find X8 Pro and Vivo X200 Pro.

Design & Display

All three models are flagship grade smartphone models, which offer a premium feel. The form factor and screen are subjective, so it’s harder to find an objectively better phone here. The Mate 70 Pro, Find X8 Pro, and X200 Pro feature an aluminum frame and glass body. The smartphones support an IP68 and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. These devices have a large circular camera module on the rear.

Although there’s a slight difference in screen size. None of these are compact flagship phones, but the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4500 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Mate 70 Pro packs a taller 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 2500 nits of peak brightness. Both the Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro are premium smartphones with cutting edge specs. The duo are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. These make it one of the fastest Android phones. However, the Mate 70 Pro is powered by a Kirin 9020 chipset. This processor isn’t bringing a major upgrade in performance. So the Mate 70 Pro still trails behind in this regard.

With the release of the HarmonyOS Next, Huawei is finally moving away from Android. A massive 6,000mAh battery pack powers the X200 Pro, while the Find X8 Pro has a 5,910mAh cell. Photography is one area where Huawei is renowned. But in recent years, many Chinese brands have started catching up. The Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro placed an emphasis on camera performance, with the former’s Zeiss APO Telephoto lens offering impressive zoom photography on a smartphone. For the main sensor, the Sony LYT808 on the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro should offer similar levels of performance. But without a doubt, these are two flagship level camera phones.

Huawei isn’t bringing similar levels of ground breaking camera tech upgrades on the Mate 70 Pro. But it seems to be refining the overall experience. Its telephoto lens isn’t as versatile as its competitors, but the 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture gives it an edge in still shots in varying lighting scenarios.

However, the company might release the base Vivo X200 with a 65,999 INR starting price (roughly 777 US Dollars). In other words, the Indian variant is noticeably more expensive in the Indian market.

The 65,999 INR is for the 12GB + 256GB model, while the 16GB + 512GB option costs 71,999 INR (roughly 848 US Dollars). On the other hand, the Vivo X200 Pro will reportedly cost 94,999 INR (roughly 1,199 US Dollars) in India for its lone 16GB + 512GB storage configuration. However, tipster Paras Gugalni on X (formerly Twitter) shared an image revealing that the X200 series will launch in Malaysia on November 19. That’s just around the corner—next Tuesday—so we can expect official confirmation from Vivo itself, within a day or two.

Additionally, the leak suggests that Vivo will launch its new flagships in Thailand on November 28.

No Pro mini for global

The Vivo X200 series includes three models: the Vivo X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro mini. While some reports speculated that Vivo might launch the Pro Mini globally, especially since the official teaser featured a green color exclusive to the Pro Mini in China, it turns out the Pro Mini won’t be available in global markets.

In another post, tipster Paras Guglani shared the global color options for these phones. Vivo will release the standard X200 in Copper Green instead, alongside Moonlight White, Cobalt Blue, and Carbon Black. Meanwhile, the X200 Pro will come in Titanium Grey, Carbon Black, and Cobalt Blue.

Thus far, Europe’s ECC, Malaysia’s SIRIM, and Indonesia’s TKDN and SDPPI certification platforms have certified the global versions of the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro, bearing the model numbers V2415 and V2413, respectively. Taiwan’s NCC platform has also approved the Pro model.

The above images show that both devices have received certification from Bluetooth SIG, India’s BIS authority, and Thailand’s NBTC platform. These certifications are a positive hint the X200 series will debut soon in the global market. A couple of days ago, Honor unveiled the Magic 7 Pro in China. It is among the latest batch of Chinese flagship smartphones and we recently compared it with the Xiaomi 15 Pro. So now, let’s pit it against the Vivo X200 Pro to see which one is better.

Design and Display

Both Honor and Vivo offer their high end devices with premium smartphones. The Vivo X200 Pro and Honor Magic 7 Pro are pretty similar with a glass back panel and a metallic frame. The duo also has a large circular camera island on the rear as well. However, the differences are more apparent on the front. One of the first things you notice when checking out the two phones is the pill shaped notch on the Magic 7 Pro. Meanwhile, the Vivo X200 Pro has a punch hole cutout.

The Chinese brand’s X200 Pro surfaced on Taiwan’s NCC certification carrying the V2413 model number (Via 91Mobiles). In the database, this model is also listed with its accessories. On the other hand, the vanilla Vivo X200 was spotted on Malaysia’s SIRIM certification. Unfortunately, these listings do not confirm any key details like launch date, price, or any other useful feature. But these do hint at the global release of the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro being near.

Vivo recently launched its flagship devices, the X200 and X200 Pro, with a focus on advanced camera and AI capabilities. However, soon after the release, several users reported issues with excessive lens flares when using the X200 Pro’s main camera, sparking discussions across social media. The company’s Vice President, Huang Tao, has since addressed these concerns, offering insights into the cause and potential solutions.

According to Huang Tao, the lens flare issue is due to the phone’s large f/1.57 aperture, which, while improving low-light performance, makes the camera more susceptible to lens flares caused by bright light sources outside the frame (also noted as off-screen glare). The issue is particularly noticeable when light hits the lens at specific angles, causing off-screen glare that appears more prominent than in other devices.

This is compounded by changes to the camera’s coating technology. While the new coating reduces typical radial or petal glare, it compromises on handling blue spectrum light, which contributes to the visible flares.

Fortunately, Vivo is working on a fix

Huang Tao acknowledged the oversight, mentioning that the problem was not adequately identified during initial testing. To address this, Vivo is preparing an OTA software update that aims to reduce the severity of these flares through optimization.

Additionally, the company plans to introduce hardware adjustments for users facing persistent issues, including peripheral accessories to further mitigate the problem.

It features a brand new 50MP main sensor measuring 1/1.28″, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens (3.7x) with Zeiss optics, and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, delivering high-quality images across various scenarios.

The device is equipped with a 6.78-inch 2K AMOLED display, boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and impressive peak brightness of up to 4500 nits. Powered by MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9400 chipset, the X200 Pro promises improved performance and power efficiency over previous models.

Vivo‘s latest flagship series, the X200, has made a strong entrance into the market. The company announced today that the X200 has already generated over 2 billion yuan in sales across all channels, breaking the company’s previous first-day sales records.

It’s important to note that this figure only includes sales of the two models available today — the standard X200 and the higher-end X200 Pro. The vanilla model starts at 4,299 yuan (around $615), while the Pro has a starting price of 5,299 yuan (around $747)

Meanwhile, the X200 Pro Mini will be available starting October 25th, and given the strong initial demand, similar success is likely for the Pro Mini when it launches.

Although specific unit sales aren’t disclosed, the sheer volume of revenue suggests the X200 series is resonating with consumers. This could be attributed to several factors.

Why is the Vivo X200 series so popular?

First, the Vivo X200 phones are the first to feature MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9400 chip. Additionally, Vivo has focused heavily on camera performance. 

The company partnered with Zeiss for custom lenses and image tuning, and also includes its in-house V3+ imaging chipset for improved image processing. The smartphones also have equally impressive camera hardware.

The Pro model boasts a 50MP Sony LYT-818 main sensor with a large 1/1.28-inch size and a custom f/1.57 lens, a big 200MP telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide camera.

While the X200 doesn’t have the Pro’s headline-grabbing 200MP sensor, it still offers a solid camera system. Its main sensor is a 50MP Sony IMX921 with a large 1/1.56″ size, paired with a 70mm telephoto lens using a 50MP IMX882 sensor and a 50MP ultrawide camera. While not quite on par with the Pro cameras, this setup should be more than enough for most users.
