The Vivo X200 Ultra launched in April 2025 as a flagship built around photography. Vivo describes it as “a pocket camera that can make calls,” and our review team found its photo and video capabilities genuinely impressive. Here’s what sets the X200 Ultra apart, especially its standout camera system.

Triple-Camera Setup with Big Sensors

On the back, the phone has three high-end cameras. The main one is a 50MP sensor (Sony LYT-818, 1/1.28″) with a 35mm f/1.7 lens and advanced stabilization. Vivo worked with Zeiss on the optics, using a Zeiss T*-coated lens and a new GLC 2.0 glass to cut down on glare. The ultra-wide camera also uses a 50MP Sony LYT-818 sensor (1/1.28″) with a 14mm f/2.0 “Hawk Eye” lens, which Vivo says lets in 181% more light than the last version. Both the main and ultra-wide cameras have optical image stabilization. The main camera uses gimbal-style OIS, and the ultra-wide has dual-axis OIS.

The third camera is a 200MP telephoto lens using a Samsung Isocell HP9 sensor (1/1.4″) with an 85mm (about 3.7× zoom) f/2.3 periscope lens. Vivo says it’s the first APO-grade telephoto in a phone, using a six-element Zeiss lens and 5.0-level OIS to cut down on color fringing. This camera gives sharp detail even when zoomed in. You can also buy a Zeiss 200mm converter to extend it to about 8.7× zoom. All three cameras include laser autofocus and Zeiss T* coatings. Zeiss also helped tune the color output for more natural results.

Consistent Quality Across All Lenses

Each camera performs well on its own, but together they cover a wide range of zoom levels. Notebookcheck pointed out that the sensors are close in size—about 1/1.28″ for the main and ultra-wide, 1/1.4″ for the telephoto—so image quality stays consistent across lenses. That means you can shoot at 14mm, 35mm, or 85mm without worrying about a drop in quality. Gizmochina even said that “every camera can be the main camera.”

Two Image Chips for Better Photos

Inside, the phone has two dedicated image signal processors. The VS1 chip handles pre-processing and uses AI to help with things like background blur, HDR, and noise reduction. The V3+ chip handles post-processing. Together, they boost image quality well beyond the previous model.

Shooting Modes and Video Features

The camera software includes several shooting modes. There’s a “Humanistic Street Photography” mode locked to 35mm with a film-like look, and night modes like “Super Moon” and “Starry Sky” for low-light scenes. All three cameras can shoot high-quality video, including 8K at 30fps and 4K at 60fps in 10-bit Log. You can also shoot 4K slow-motion at 120fps. Vivo says the phone captures up to 14 stops of dynamic range and supports Dolby Vision HDR recording.

The software also lets you tweak sharpening and color. There’s a “Zeiss Natural Color” mode for more accurate colors, though default settings are a bit vibrant, and some users may want to adjust them.

Add-On Gear for Serious Shooters

Vivo also made hardware accessories for photography. The phone has a camera button that works like a shutter or zoom control. There’s an optional “Photography Kit” that adds a battery grip with controls and a 67mm adapter for extra lenses. One of those lenses is a 2.35× Zeiss teleconverter, turning the 85mm lens into about a 200mm f/2.3 lens—around 8.7× zoom. These accessories are sold separately and give the phone a DSLR-like setup. Gizmochina noted the grip and lens are mostly plastic, but they add useful features like tripod mounting and extra battery life.

Benchmarking platform AnTuTu has released its list of the top 10 best-performing smartphones for April 2025. As usual, the chart ranks devices based on aggregate scores measured through CPU, GPU, memory, and UX performance. And this month, it’s mostly a Vivo affair.

The number one spot is taken by the Vivo X200 Ultra, a flagship device that was launched in April. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and pairs it with 16GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That particular configuration managed to rack up a score of 2,953,489, placing it comfortably at the top.

More notable than the win itself is the fact that Vivo didn’t stop there. Second and third place also go to its phones, the X200s and X200 Pro, running on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+ and Dimensity 9400, respectively. It’s a rare showing of a single manufacturer sweeping the podium, but not entirely surprising.

The iQOO 13, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, ranks fourth. Oppo Find X8 Ultra with 8 Elite and Find X8s+ with Dimensity 9400+ rank fifth and sixth, respectively. 

OnePlus made it to the list with the OnePlus 13T, which also runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While we saw the phone scoring above 3 million before its launch, the final retail version settles at seventh place with a score of 2,758,405. That’s not bad, but far from what was hinted at during the promotion.

The regular OnePlus 13 also makes it into the top 10 with 2,737,820 points. It’s enough to beat out other major flagships, including Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, which doesn’t appear on the list at all. Neither do any of the new Xiaomi 15 series models, which is notable given Xiaomi’s usual focus on performance-focused hardware.

As always with synthetic benchmarks, real-world performance tells a more complete story. But for now, Vivo’s numbers speak for themselves—quietly and without much room for argument.

But don’t get me wrong: The X200 Ultra is truly powerful. Everything blew my mind, whether it’s photography or videography, ultra-wide or telephoto cameras, and even that external lens. I’m sure your first reaction to seeing it was exactly the same as mine.

So why didn’t it take the top spot in my ranking? There’s just one simple reason. I won’t give you the answer right away. After I show you just how powerful this phone is, I’ll tell you why I ranked it second.

35mm

The main camera on the X200 Ultra is where the biggest updates are, and also the most debated. The focal length has shifted from the previous 23mm to 35mm. It’s not new, and we’ve seen this insistence in Nubia’s flagship lineup as well. And that’s a good thing.

I made a chart so you can see at a glance how the X200 Ultra’s focal lengths are now more logically spaced. On other brands, the ultra-wide and main cameras are often too close to each other. But the bad news is, the 1-inch sensor is gone. If you don’t want your phone to turn into a hammer, shrinking the sensor was inevitable for such a 35mm lens.

So, between 35mm lens and a 1-inch sensor, vivo chose the former. There must be a reason, right? They say 35mm is the ideal focal length for street and documentary photography. But I’m not a professional street photographer, and most of you probably aren’t either. So, for an everyday shooter, the main advantage of a 35mm lens is that you can frame & compose your shots without taking extra steps for a more natural perspective (closer to what you see). Plus, compared to the old 23mm + 1-inch sensor setup, edge sharpness has improved.

As for the downside of the smaller sensor, honestly, it’s hard to notice. When I shot in near-dark conditions, without a comparison in depth, I couldn’t even tell how much worse it was. Let me put it this way: If I didn’t tell you the sensor was downgraded, you probably wouldn’t spot the difference. And compared to the ultra-wide cameras on Xiaomi and OPPO’s latest flagships, the downgrade here is almost negligible.

If you’re not used to the 35mm main camera, you can also crop the 14mm ultra-wide lens to 28mm instead. There will be some loss in image quality, but it’s still within acceptable limits—after all, it uses the same sensor as the 35mm camera.

You might wonder: Why not crop to 23mm instead? Because 28mm is exactly double 14mm, which means the In-Sensor-Zoom feature only works properly at this focal length. Even though it’s just a 5mm difference, the clarity gap is huge. So, avoid to use the 23mm one. The same logic applies when shooting at medium telephoto: stick to 70mm instead of 50mm. That said, since these shots are still digitally cropped, low-light performance won’t match phones with a native 23mm main camera.

14mm

This 14mm camera is the best ultra-wide shooter in recent Ultra models—especially after trying the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Find X8 Ultra, I realize how satisfying it is to have a good ultra-wide camera.

I rarely used ultra-wide before because, usually, the image quality lags behind the other two cameras. Plus, framing is tricky—it captures way more than you intend. But since I paid so much for all three cameras, skipping one feels like wasting $300. So lately, I’ve been practicing ultra-wide composition. For example, with pets, I used to rely on a telephoto for close-ups to capture the motions of their cuteness.

But after switching to ultra-wide, a completely different perspective—big heads, tiny paws, a whole new kind of adorable. And the fur details are still sharp. Trust me, once you see how good the image quality is, you’ll fall in love with this camera.

Of course, there are downsides: lens limitations mean edge sharpness isn’t perfect, and coma or chromatic aberration can be noticeable in some scenes. But overall, it outperforms most smartphones, especially in night shots and video. If you get this phone, experiment with it. You might discover a whole new creative world.

Video & Selfies

When it comes to video, a great ultra-wide camera matters even more than for photos. Thanks to OIS and a larger sensor, I’d say the X200 Ultra’s video quality and stabilization are close to the iPhone’s—and it even surpasses the iPhone thanks to that bigger sensor at night. The X200 Ultra also supports 4K 60fps 10-bit Log recording—yes, without needing an external SSD—and all three cameras can do it!

Rarely, the X200 Ultra is currently the few flagship Ultra models with an autofocus-enabled selfie camera. Combined with its wide range of beauty filters and modes, you never have to worry about a bad selfie with a Vivo phone. It even supports 4K 60fps video recording. While it doesn’t have as many settings as the rear cameras, vivo has done an impressive job with the front-facing camera.

85mm

The 200MP HP9 sensor is an old friend at this point. This time, the only upgrade is a slightly larger aperture—everything else remains the same. Sure, it’s powerful, but we’ve already seen its capabilities in so many phones that the “wow” factor is gone. Just know this: Whether it’s photos or videos, day or night, landscapes or portraits, this camera delivers exceptional results. Even at 170mm zoom, the quality stays decent.

It also supports macro mode, and I’d argue it’s the best telephoto lens on any smartphone—no debate. Like OPPO, the AI enhancement in Portrait or Stage modes sharpens subjects noticeably. Beyond 460mm, equivalent to 10x zoom on other phones, the AI kicks in to polish everything. If you hate AI processing, you can either disable it in settings or grab the $230 Photography Kit for a more natural look.

Photography Kit

Every time I review Xiaomi’s Ultra series, I recommend their photography kit. Now that vivo has its own version, I’m doing the same, because the premium kit includes a telephoto extender that boosts the optical zoom to 200mm.

Yes, this Zeiss lens lets you capture distant subjects effortlessly. You could literally use this phone to shoot wildlife on an African safari—I’m not joking. That said, beyond 400mm, AI processing becomes overly aggressive, and the viewfinder shows noticeable jelly effect (Rolling Shutter Effect) when panning quickly. Though oddly, this doesn’t happen in video recording.

Since the lens flips the image upside down, you must use a special mode to shoot, but this disables RAW shooting, LOG video, and color mode adjustments. There are also occasional bugs, like camera unresponsive, or untranslated Chinese UI elements. Despite these flaws, if you are a wildlife or concerts person, it’s still worth buying.

Too expensive? Wait a few months. The lens attaches via a standard threaded mount without electronic contacts, meaning third-party clones will inevitably appear at lower prices. Does this mean it will be the best expandable model in the camera phone category? We will see.

Now let’s talk about the other accessories in the photography kit. The grip and phone case are functionally flawless. The grip is significantly bulkier than Xiaomi’s version, providing a much more secure hold. It connects via Type-C and even features a built-in battery that can reverse-charge your phone. The kit includes an adapter ring that allows the X200 Ultra to use 67mm filters. It has all the necessary buttons, even including a tripod screw mount that Xiaomi’s version lacks. When detached from the grip, the case itself has a built-in kickstand. Sounds perfect, right?

However, vivo falls short in one area: build quality. The connection between the external lens and adapter ring isn’t as stable as expected. Plus, the plain plastic exterior lacks any premium finishing, making it feel noticeably cheaper than Xiaomi’s metal-clad version. Although I shouldn’t ask for more, the fact has to be pointd out that the bird lens has a fixed aperture and does not support manual focusing. Final verdict: For this photography kit, I’d give it 8 out of 10. Just refine those details in the next generation, and it could be perfect.

Camera Experience

Yeah, the X200 Ultra delivers a solid camera experience overall. It introduces more customization options, like finally letting you adjust that oversharpening we’ve often complained about. The ultra-wide field of view, previously cropped too aggressively by EIS, now allows you to sacrifice some stabilization for a wider perspective.

So, time to answer the opening question: What’s my real gripe with it? The answer is Tonality—the color character of photos. While the X200 Ultra offers multiple color modes, none truly satisfy me. Simply put, I can’t achieve that cinematic look Xiaomi and OPPO deliver effortlessly. No matter how I tweak settings, something always feels missing. Even Zeiss modes fall short of Leica or Hasselblad’s tonal richness. This might not matter to everyone, but it matters to me.

Most of vivo’s default color styles lean too vibrant—great for snapshots, but tiresome over time. They excel at everyday documentation but easily get bored for a long time.

While the X200 Ultra isn’t my favorite phone this year, that doesn’t mean I dislike it—in fact, I’m quite fond of it. Its perfect balance of three cameras is likely the main reason for its popularity. There’s no “main camera” here—or rather, every camera can be the main camera. You simply choose the focal length that best suits your scene, then capture it, no overthinking required. This feeling of just focusing on what’s right in front of you is fantastic.

Vivo has officially launched the X200 Ultra in China, and if you’ve been following the teasers, you already know what this phone is about: cameras. 

Not long after the launch event, our team in China managed to get their hands on a unit to shoot a quick hands-on video (you can watch that below). But if you’re just here for the first impressions, here’s what stood out.

Vivo X200 Ultra first impressions

Right off the bat, the X200 Ultra makes its intentions clear. This is a camera phone, and it doesn’t try to hide it. 

Its camera bump alone measures 15.9mm, which is bigger than that of any competing flagships, including Oppo Find X8 Ultra (14.2mm) or the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (15.6mm). Still, the body itself is relatively slim at just 8.69mm (thinner than both competitors), which helps to balance the overall feel.

The phone also feels surprisingly well-balanced in hand, partly thanks to a curved display on the front. It adds a bit of elegance while also improving grip, so it doesn’t come across as unwieldy.

To make using the camera even easier, the X200 Ultra includes a dedicated camera control button. And its implementation might actually be better than on the latest iPhones. Your finger rests naturally on it, so you’re likely to make full use of it.

As for the cameras, you get a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide (both using Sony’s LYT-818 sensor), and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens from Samsung (HP9, 85mm). The telephoto module includes Zeiss APO optics, 3.7x optical zoom, OIS, and Zeiss’s T* coating to help with lens flares and reflections.

If that’s not enough for you, Vivo also has a detachable Zeiss lens in the X200 Ultra’s Photography Kit, which extends the focal length up to 200mm. We haven’t had time to fully test that out yet, but we’ll save the deep dive and sample shots for a dedicated camera breakdown later.

The dual-cell structure in OPPO not only charges slightly faster but also generates less heat, promoting longer battery health. 

Vivo’s single-cell design, while robust, tends to get warmer under 90W load. Additionally, OPPO offers more charging protocol flexibility, supporting PPS, PD, and QC standards, making it friendlier to third-party accessories. 

OPPO’s efficient power management and faster wireless charge tilt the scale toward it, especially for users prioritizing longevity and top-up speed.

Verdict:
Both phones deliver flagship-grade performance, but OPPO’s thermal management and charging flexibility position it as a more reliable everyday workhorse. Vivo’s single-cell approach offers marginally longer screen-on time per charge, but OPPO wins in recharge speed and safety, especially under varied conditions.

For pure photographic detail, especially long-range, Vivo’s 200MP periscope delivers unmatched clarity at a distance. Yet, OPPO provides more natural colors and a balanced dynamic range in complex lighting. Users valuing extreme zoom and creative framing will find vivo superior, while OPPO suits those who prefer accurate color science and video versatility.

Selfie Camera:

For buyers prioritizing extreme photography, Vivo’s 200MP periscope camera justifies its cost. Meanwhile, OPPO offers a more all-rounded package for the same price, especially when factoring in faster charging, superior software stability, and advanced satellite communication (on certain models). The value proposition leans toward OPPO for everyday dependability, while Vivo appeals more to camera hobbyists.

Conclusion

Both phones share standout features like Snapdragon 8 Extreme chipsets, 16GB RAM, and AMOLED QHD+ displays, but each has unique strengths. Vivo has launched the X200 Ultra flagship smartphone in China, alongside the X200s, offering a top-end display, strong performance, and advanced camera hardware. The phone is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on April 29.

Vivo X200 Ultra features

The X200 Ultra comes with a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED curved screen that supports a 1–120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 2160Hz PWM dimming, DC-like dimming, and Armor Glass protection. The screen has a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and covers 93.3% of the front.

The device has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 3nm chipset, with an Adreno 830 GPU. It supports 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB using UFS 4.1. It runs OriginOS 5 based on Android 15. The CPU is an 8-core setup with a peak clock of 4.32GHz. It includes two dedicated imaging chips—VS1 for pre-processing and V3+ for post-processing image data—to reduce load on the main chipset and improve photo and video quality.

The rear camera system includes a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide sensor (both Sony LYT-818), and a 200MP Samsung HP9 periscope telephoto lens (85mm) with Zeiss APO design, 3.7x optical zoom, OIS, and Zeiss T* coating. The camera setup supports 8K video, 4K at 60fps 10-bit Log, 4K at 120fps for slow motion, and 4K time-lapse. The front camera is a 50MP unit with an f/2.45 aperture.

The phone features a physical camera control key for quick access, zoom control, and shutter adjustments. Vivo is also selling a Zeiss 2.35x telephoto kit with a 200mm F2.3 lens and a pro photography kit that includes a grip with shutter and zoom lever, a 2300mAh battery, and a 67mm filter adapter.

It has a 6000mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging, 40W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Vivo claims a talk time of up to 23.4 hours on 4G VoLTE and a standby of up to 18.3 days. It uses a single-cell lithium-ion battery design.

The phone has an in-display 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and supports facial recognition. It includes stereo speakers, USB Type-C, an infrared sensor, and supports USB 3.2 Gen1. Connectivity options include dual 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and full satellite navigation support including GPS, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS, and NavIC. The 16GB + 1TB version also supports Beidou satellite messaging through China Mobile.

The phone is IP68 and IP69 rated for dust and water resistance. It measures 163.14 x 76.76 x 8.69mm and weighs 229g (Silver) or 232g (Black and Red).

Pricing & availability

Prices are set at 6499 yuan (~USD 890) for the 12GB + 256GB model, 6999 yuan (~USD 959) for the 16GB + 512GB, and 7999 yuan (~USD 1095) for the 16GB + 1TB Satellite Edition. The 16GB + 1TB version with the Photographer Kit costs 9699 yuan (~USD 1329). The Zeiss telephoto kit is priced at 1299 yuan (~USD 178), the photographer kit at 699 yuan (~USD 96), and the combo at 1699 yuan (~USD 233). The accessory kits will be available in May.

Vivo will launch the X200 Ultra next week, after weeks of teasers. The company has now shared full images of the phone in all three launch colors. Each variant has a textured back panel. Vivo also posted more photo samples, this time showing off portrait shots at 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm focal lengths. The goal is clear—Vivo wants to show that this phone can handle portraits at any range.

Vivo is also pushing the idea that the X200 Ultra can replace a DSLR. A new promo video shows this off, alongside earlier landscape shots. The phone is being pitched as a serious camera tool, not just a smartphone.

Earlier, Vivo revealed the phone’s full camera specs. The main 35mm camera uses a Sony LYT-818 sensor with a Zeiss T*-coated GLC 2.0 lens. It’s optically stabilized with CIPA 5.0-level OIS. The lens cuts visible light reflection to under 0.1% and includes Vivo’s third-gen VCS bionic spectral imaging tech.

The ultra-wide camera also uses a LYT-818 sensor, co-developed with Zeiss. It has a 14mm “Hawk Eye” lens that brings in 181% more light and has a 216% faster shutter than the previous model. It also has dual-axis OIS.

The 85mm telephoto lens features a 200MP Samsung HP9 sensor. This is the first APO-grade telephoto setup on a phone, with a six-element design and 5.0-level OIS. Vivo says it’s 38% better in low light and 41% more stable.

The phone runs on the new VS1 chip, Vivo’s first AI image processor, offering 80 TOPS of power. It handles bokeh, HDR, and multi-frame shots in real time. The camera system supports focal lengths from 24mm to 100mm, 4K portrait video, and multiple night modes like Supermoon and Starry Sky.

Vivo has been teasing the phone’s imaging chops in bits and pieces over the past few weeks, but today, it finally dropped the full spec sheet (via a series of posters on its official Weibo account). There’s a lot to unpack, but here’s a quick breakdown of what you need to know.

Vivo X200 Ultra camera prowess

At the heart of the X200 Ultra’s camera system is a new 35mm main camera built around the Sony LYT-818 sensor. It’s a 1/1.28” sensor paired with a Zeiss T*-coated lens which notably is the world’s first GLC 2.0 ultra-low dispersion glass. 

The lens is optically stabilized with CIPA 5.0-level OIS. Vivo is also pushing its third-generation VCS bionic spectral imaging tech here. Whereas, the lens has  sub-0.1% visible light reflection thanks to improved anti-glare coatings.

The ultra-wide camera continues the premium sensor approach. It uses another Sony LYT-818. But here, it’s been customized jointly with Zeiss. It’s a 14mm “Hawk Eye” lens promising an 181% jump in light intake and a 216% faster shutter speed than its predecessor. There’s also dual-axis optical image stabilization.

Then there’s the 85mm telephoto. It’s a 200MP Samsung HP9 sensor behind what Vivo calls the first APO-grade telephoto setup in mobile. Portraits and low-light photography

Portraits, of course, are a big part of X200 Ultra. The phone can shoot from 24mm to 100mm backed by AI-powered skin rendering, lighting control, and million-level 3D ray tracing for bokeh. There’s even a “Humanistic Street Photography” mode which focuses on quick-launch, 35mm framing, and a simulated film-style aesthetic.

The X200 Ultra can also shoot 4K portrait videos at all focal lengths with skin color optimization via the HSV algorithm, and near-zero shutter delay thanks to the new VS1 chip.

There’s equal emphasis on low-light photography. You can shoot from (14mm) ultrawide to long-range telephoto night shots. And there are a handful of modes like Supermoon, Zeiss Micro Bokeh, and Starry Sky to capture nuance details of the sky. 

For scene recognition and visual fidelity, Vivo says it uses models trained on over 80 million samples, including large-scale image sets and data-engineered photo simulations.

The Vivo X200 Ultra is set to be officially unveiled on April 21st.

Vivo confirms Snapdragon 8 Elite for X200 Ultra

As rumored, the X200 Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Vivo is also using its in-house VS1 and V3+ silicons for pre and post-processing of the images and videos captured. 

On the front, you’ll find a 2K Zeiss Master Color display with circular polarized light tech that Vivo says is easier on the eyes. And while the company hasn’t revealed the screen size, it’s rumored to be 6.82 inches. 

This is protected by Armous Glass, and biometric authentication is handled by an ultrasonic 3D fingerprint sensor. 

Fueling the phone is a hefty 6,000mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging and 40W wireless. There is support for bypass charging too. 

The tech routes the power directly to the phone’s internals instead of the battery; it helps to keep thermals in check during long gaming sessions or other intensive tasks. All of that is packed into a body that measures 8.69mm thick. 

The X200 Ultra will be available in red, black, and silver shades. The latter has a stripe design on the back for added grip. Other features will include IP68/69 water resistance and support for China’s Beidou-3 short message service on top-tier configurations.

The result is a powerful 8.7x optical zoom, aimed at elevating mobile photography.

This external lens uses a 3-group, 13-element Kepler-style construction with high-transmittance glass elements to maximize clarity and precision. It supports RMSC technology, enabling a second zoom stage that delivers 800mm equivalent (35x) zoom and up to 1600mm (70x) digital zoom with image quality similar to traditional 30x systems.

Its bottom side features a SIM slot, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille.

The most prominent element of the Vivo X200 Ultra’s back panel is the large circular camera module, which houses three camera sensors along with the Zeiss branding at the center. The design suggests a strong focus on photography and symmetry. Adjacent to the camera module is a pill-shaped dual-LED flash positioned vertically near the top-left corner of the rear panel.

Vivo has confirmed that its upcoming smartphones, the X200s and X200 Ultra, will launch in China on April 21. The company initially teased the devices in late March, and it has now revealed new details, including the first official look at the Ultra model’s rear design.

Vivo X200 Ultra

The official teaser reveals the X200 Ultra in a clean white finish with vertical stripes running down the back. But it’ll also come in at least one other variant. A red version that’s already surfaced in leaked images on Weibo. This model swaps out the textured stripes for a smoother, leather-like finish.

Both versions show off a large, raised camera bump that extends prominently from the chassis. The phone itself also seems relatively thick, likely due to its substantial hardware.

According to the details shared (and leaked), the X200 Ultra will feature a rear triple-camera setup: two 50MP 1/1.28″ LYT818 sensors (one standard, one 35mm), and a 200MP 1/1.4″ HP9X periscope unit with an 85mm focal length. 

Vivo claims these sensors are equipped with OIS across all focal lengths and support 4K video at 120fps. The camera system also includes Zeiss co-engineered optics, a VS1 and V3+ chip setup, and a new tone filter. 

The phone is expected to feature a 6.82-inch quad-curved BOE LTPO display with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Underneath, the phone will have a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip along with a battery exceeding 6000mAh, with support for 90W wired and wireless charging.

Meanwhile, the more affordable X200s will feature a flatter design and a smaller 6.67-inch 1.5K LTPS screen. It will be offered in pink, blue, black, and white shades with a glossy finish on the back.

The rear camera system is expected to include an IMX921 primary sensor, a JN1 ultra-wide, and a 3x periscope macro telephoto lens (LTY-600). It will also carry a battery of over 6000mAh with support for 90W fast charging. But will swap the 8 Elite for MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+ chip.

The new button has a distinct appeal, featuring a blue strip for added visual contrast. The dedicated camera shutter button, positioned lower on the frame, is not just a standard press-down key, but it appears to support a sliding action. The VS1 is a “pre-processing chip”

The X200 Ultra’s camera setup hinges on a clever division of labor. The VS1 acts as a “pre-processing chip” or “PreISP”, which tackles initial processing tasks like exposure, focus, and image stacking. Not to mention, it is intended to improve the overall reliability of the camera system, something iPhones have long been praised for. It’s good to see Vivo going all in to improve the consistency and reliability of the X200 Ultra’s imaging system.

The VS1 chip is designed to cooperate with the V3+ post-processing chip that handles heavy lifting like noise reduction and detail enhancement. This dual-chip approach, paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s capable ISP, promises much-improved image processing—crucial for a device aiming to rival standalone cameras.

While this “PreISP” tech isn’t new (think Google’s Tensor chips or Apple’s Deep Fusion), vivo’s implementation could set it apart, especially with the VS1’s algorithms trained on tens of thousands of SLR photos for pinpoint lighting accuracy.

Another notable feature of this Ultra phone is the triple flash system, also referred to as Zoom Flash, which perfectly covers the field of view and properly exposes the subject. It isn’t possible with a single LED flash of a smartphone camera.

The device features a prominent circular camera island that is both large in diameter and protrusion. In fact, the protrusion is one of the highest the smartphone industry has ever seen. Not to mention, it suggests the inclusion of some advanced optical equipment.

The vivo X200 Pro already packs a huge periscope telephoto module, which packs the 1/1.4″ 200MP ISOCELL HP9 sensor and has increased the protrusion by quite a bit compared to the X100 Pro, and Vivo is seemingly taking mobile photography to the next level with the Ultra model.

Three high-end sensors are expected for the main, UW, and telephoto

According to leaks, the X200 Ultra will boast three high-end sensors for its main, ultrawide, and periscope telephoto cameras. The 35mm main camera and ultrawide camera are rumored to share the same sensor, while the telephoto sensor is expected to remain unchanged. This setup promises exceptional image quality across the entire focal length.

Notably, the live images also reveal a new button on the lower right side of the device, strategically placed for easy access during photography. The Pro model is one of the best in the market in terms of imaging capability and there’s no doubt the Ultra model will also be positioned as a camera-centric flagship.

The vivo X200 Pro has been well received by people despite its huge camera bump, but it remains to be seen how much sacrifice people are willing to make for better imaging capabilities.

According to X user Johnny Manuel, Vivo is working with the premium German luggage brand for a special edition of the X200 Ultra. Rimowa, known for its iconic grooved aluminum suitcases, might be bringing its signature design to Vivo’s latest flagship.

The X user has shared a few renders of the Vivo X200 Ultra and its packaging. And as expected, the phone and its box feature the signature vertically striped design. 

However, the partnership has not been officially confirmed by any party. So stay tuned for updates.

Vivo X200 Ultra: Specs and What to Expect

The regular X200 Ultra is rumored to come in three colors: wine red, black, and white, and might feature an AG glass back.

Under the hood, Vivo is reportedly opting for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 on the X200 and X200 Pro. The phone is also expected to feature a 2K micro-quad-curved display with ultra-narrow bezels.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung’s Ultra series has long been the benchmark for high-end Android phones, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra isn’t likely to stray far from this formula. If history is any indication, the S25 Ultra will build on the successes of its predecessor, focusing on subtle but meaningful improvements rather than radical redesigns.

The S25 Ultra will likely retain its signature boxy, industrial design but with more rounded edges this time. Its front will feature a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, similar to previous models. 

The OLED panel is expected to maintain a resolution of 1440 by 3080 pixels, offering a sharpness of over 500ppi. As a result, individual pixels will remain indistinguishable. Samsung is also likely to continue refining its S Pen integration, keeping it as the go-to choice for productivity-minded users.

On the camera front, the S25 Ultra is expected to upgrade its ultrawide lens to a new 50MP ISOCELL JN3 sensor. The other three cameras—the 200MP main, 10MP telephoto with 3x zoom, and 50MP telephoto with 5x zoom—are likely to remain unchanged.

Powering the S25 Ultra will likely be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, built by TSMC and officially announced in October 2024. The chipset’s two performance cores reach clock speeds of up to 4GHz, a significant leap from the 3.3GHz offered by the Cortex-X4 on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The company, however, claims this new sensor should perform as well as the previous one, and possibly better in certain situations. We assume Vivo might take a similar approach with the X200 Ultra, though the exact camera sensor is still unknown. 

On the performance front, the X200 Ultra will likely run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It’s expected to feature a 2K resolution display with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a premium viewing experience over the 1.5K screens of the base and Pro variants. The device could also pack a powerful 6,000mAh battery, supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra

Oppo’s Find X series has always combined premium design with powerful performance, and the Find X8 Ultra looks set to continue that legacy.

The Find X8 Ultra is rumored to feature a micro-quad-curved screen, enhancing its immersive feel. It will likely sport a 6.82-inch BOE X2 LTPO OLED panel with a 2K+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate—possibly the same display debuting on the OnePlus 13.

The camera upgrades on the new model will likely be subtle, yet they remain impactful. The Find X8 Ultra is expected to retain its one-inch primary sensor and periscope telephoto lenses, now with slight focal length adjustments. 

We can also expect 3x and 6x periscope cameras for versatile zoom capabilities. And Oppo will also integrate a Hasselblad multi-spectral sensor to improve color accuracy and low-light performance.

Oppo will also be focusing on durability. The Find X8 Ultra is expected to carry an IP68/69 rating for water and dust resistance. Security-wise, it will feature a single-point ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, ensuring faster and more reliable unlocks.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Find X8 Ultra will likely offer up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage in its premium models.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra

Last but not least, we have Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It is expected to feature a 6.73-inch AMOLED panel that features a micro-quad-curved design. It will offer a 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. The device will run on HyperOS 2-based Android 15.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The 15 Ultra is expected to arrive with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

For selfies, it is expected to feature a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera setup of the device will have a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-900 primary camera with OIS support, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 ultra-wide snapper, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 telephoto camera, and a 200-megapixel Samsung HP9 periscope telephoto camera with support for up to 100x AI-driven hybrid zoom.
