We’ve been putting the Samsung Galaxy S26 up against flagships from across the market. If you’re curious, it’s already faced off against the OnePlus 15 and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro.

Today, we’re comparing the Galaxy S26 with a more recent flagship, the Vivo X300s, which launched just last week in China. Both phones sit in the increasingly competitive “affordable flagship” tier. But the two are very different ideas of how a flagship phone should be in 2026. 

Vivo is about bigger battery, higher megapixel counts, faster charging, while Samsung offers refinement, long-term support, and a more compact form factor. Let’s go through them in detail here. 

Design and size

The Galaxy S26, as you might know, is a relatively compact flagship. At 149.6mm tall and weighing just 167 grams, it’s noticeably smaller and lighter than the Vivo X300s. You can actually use it one-handed without thinking about it.

The Vivo X300s, by comparison, is large, and unapologetic about it. At 162mm tall and 217 grams, it’s closer to what you’d expect from an “ultra” phone. The extra size makes room for its bigger battery and camera system, but it also means you’ll feel it in your pocket.

No prize for guessing, Vivo gives you more screen in almost every sense. The X300s has a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, compared to the S26’s 6.3-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display at 120Hz.

On paper, Vivo offers a higher refresh rate, higher resolution (1260 x 2800), and features like 2160Hz PWM dimming and HDR Vivid. But in everyday use, you’re unlikely to notice a major difference between Samsung and Vivo.

Performance

Both phones run flagship chips, but from different ecosystems.

The Vivo X300s uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, built on a 3nm process with a peak clock speed of 4.21GHz. Samsung’s Galaxy S26, meanwhile, uses different chips depending on the region: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in some markets and Exynos 2600 in others.

On paper, Samsung’s Snapdragon variant is slightly more aggressive, with a 4.74GHz peak core speed. But these are flagship SoCs, so everyday performance will feel smooth on either device.

Where Samsung pulls ahead is software longevity. The S26 promises up to seven major Android updates, compared to five on the Vivo. That’s a meaningful gap if you plan to keep your phone for several years.

Cameras

When it comes to cameras, the Vivo X300s goes all-in on hardware. It features a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide. It even supports optional external zoom lenses with Zeiss optics.

Samsung, on the other hand, opts for a 50MP main sensor, a 10MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide.

There’s no doubt Vivo has the edge in flexibility. Higher-resolution sensors allow for more cropping, and the periscope lens — plus optional add-ons — suggests it’s built for users who want to experiment with zoom and detail.

Samsung’s advantage lies in predictability. Features like Best Face, strong HDR processing, and consistent video performance make it easier to get reliable results without much effort.

Battery and charging

The Vivo X300s packs a massive 7100mAh battery, significantly larger than the Galaxy S26’s 4300mAh cell.

Charging speeds widen the gap further. Vivo supports 90W wired and 40W wireless charging, while Samsung sticks to 25W wired and 15W wireless. Even with Samsung’s efficiency optimizations, it’s hard to see it competing on endurance or charging time.

The S26 does offer reverse wireless charging and tighter accessory integration, but that doesn’t change the core difference: the Vivo is built to last longer and charge faster.

The bottom line

The Vivo X300s and Galaxy S26 don’t really compete on the same terms, even though they sit in the same category.

The Vivo X300s is all about maximizing hardware — a bigger battery, faster charging, higher-resolution cameras, and a larger, faster display. It’s trying to win on specs.

The Galaxy S26 is more restrained. It focuses on usability, long-term software support, and a compact design that’s increasingly rare among flagship Android phones.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you value more: raw hardware or a more balanced, long-term experience.

Vivo has introduced the X300s smartphone at its spring launch event in China, alongside the X300 Ultra. The device focuses on imaging upgrades, display improvements, and performance enhancements across the device.

Display and performance

The X300s features a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2800 × 1260 pixels) and a 20:9 aspect ratio. This is the first device in the X series to support a 144Hz refresh rate. The panel is built using 8T LTPO technology and a Q10 Plus luminescent substrate.

The display supports HDR10+, 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and DC-like dimming. Peak brightness reaches up to 4500 nits, while global brightness is rated at 2000 nits. It also covers 100% of the P3 color gamut and supports native 144FPS mode in Honor of Kings. Armor Glass protection is included.

The device runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, paired with Vivo’s V3+ imaging chip. The combination is designed to handle both performance tasks and real-time image processing. The phone comes with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and storage options up to 1TB using UFS 4.1. It runs Android 16 with Origin OS 6.

Camera system and optics

The X300s uses a Zeiss-certified camera system. The main camera is a 200MP Samsung HPBr sensor with a 1/1.4-inch size and f/1.68 aperture. It includes optical image stabilization with CIPA 4.5 certification.

A 50MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.0 aperture is included, along with a 50MP Sony LYTIA 602 periscope telephoto lens. The telephoto camera supports Zeiss APO certification, 3.5x optical zoom, telephoto macro, Zeiss T* coating, and OIS. G2 teleconverter accessory

Vivo also introduced the G2 teleconverter, designed for extended zoom photography. It weighs 153g and measures 96mm in length. The lens uses a 15-element optical structure and meets Zeiss APO standards. It supports 200mm portrait video recording.

Hardware, battery, and connectivity

Other features include an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, Hi-Fi audio, and USB Type-C audio. The device measures 161.98 × 75.48 × 8 mm and weighs 217g. It carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Pricing and availability

The X300s starts at 4,999 yuan for the 12GB + 256GB variant. The 16GB + 512GB version is priced at 5,499 yuan and 5,999 yuan depending on configuration, while the 16GB + 1TB model is priced at 6,999 yuan. The device is available for order in China and will go on sale starting April 3.

The Poco X8 Pro Max is scheduled to launch globally on March 17. It is expected to become the largest battery phone from Poco so far. Reports suggest that the Indian variant may include a 9,000mAh battery, while the global model could feature a slightly smaller 8,550mAh unit.

The device is believed to be a rebranded version of China’s Redmi Turbo 5 Max, which also packs a 9,000mAh battery. If the specifications remain similar, the X8 Pro Max could offer a strong combination of performance and endurance in the upper mid-range segment.

Vivo is expected to unveil the Vivo X300 Ultra later this month, and speculation suggests the brand may also introduce the Vivo X300 Max alongside it. The X300 Max was reportedly displayed in a confidential case at MWC 2026 recently. Today, Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao confirmed that there is no Vivo X300 Max. Instead, this device will debut with the Vivo X300s branding. He also confirmed several details about the device.

Vivo X300s moniker confirmed

According to Boxiao, the company had internally discussed naming the device the Vivo X300 Max due to the scale of its upgrades. However, Vivo eventually chose to keep the “s” naming convention, similar to the previous X-series refresh.

The Vivo X300s is aimed at users who want a large-screen flagship without compromising on imaging. While many recent imaging-focused models have shifted to compact displays, this device combines a bigger screen with strong camera capabilities.

The “s” reportedly stands for “SuperMax,” highlighting improvements across multiple areas, particularly performance. Vivo also suggests that the X300s will sit alongside the X300 Ultra, offering a balance between powerful photography and flagship hardware.

Boxiao revealed that the Vivo X300s will have a 6.78-inch BOE Q10 Plus panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. This would make it the first device in the X series to support such a high refresh rate, and it is also said to support native 144FPS gameplay in certain MOBA titles. The display will support Zeiss color tuning and circular polarization technology designed to improve eye comfort.

Audio performance is also set to improve with the inclusion of symmetric 1115 dual speakers similar to those found on the iQOO 15. The system includes upgraded amplifiers and algorithms to deliver a wider sound field. Vivo claims that gaming audio cues such as footsteps and gunfire can become significantly clearer, helping players identify positions more easily.

The phone will also include a large customized 4D vibration motor designed to deliver stronger and more detailed haptic feedback. The motor is said to support enhanced vibration effects in more than ten popular mobile games, allowing users to experience stronger tactile responses during gameplay. He added that this will be the largest and most powerful vibration motor ever included in an X-series device.

Boxiao has also confirmed that the device will be equipped with a Zeiss 200-megapixel image sensor. However, he did not reveal any other camera-related information.

Previous reports have revealed that the X300s will feature a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera in its triple camera setup. It will have a Dimensity 9500 chip and a battery of around 7,000mAh capacity. It may offer 90W wired and 40W wireless charging and run on OriginOS 6-based Android 16. It is also said to have an IP68/69-rated dust- and water-resistant chassis.

We are nearing the end of January 2026, and already, a few phones have debuted. Some of the trends expected to be seen on phones this year include improved AI experiences, larger silicon-carbon batteries—with some brands already launching 10,000mAh and 9,000mAh battery phones—higher refresh rate displays, with some even expected to exceed the 200Hz mark, and more. One trend that is expected to be widely adopted by different smartphone brands is the 200-megapixel camera, with some even rumoured to offer dual 200-megapixel cameras.

Knowing the current 200MP sensors

There are a couple of existing and upcoming 200MP sensors, which include:

Samsung ISOCELL HP5

Launched in October 2025, the Samsung ISOCELL HP5 200-megapixel sensor has been made available on mid-range, mid-premium, and flagship phones since the latter half of 2025. On mid-tier phones like the Vivo V60e or performance-focused flagships like the iQOO Z11 Turbo, this 200-megapixel sensor is coupled with an ultra-wide camera. On mid-premium phones and flagships, it is paired with more powerful ultra-wide and telephoto cameras.

Samsung HPB (Custom Samsung ISOCELL HP9 variant)

The Samsung HPB is Vivo’s customized version of the existing Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor, which was launched in 2024. The Vivo X300 and X300 Pro are the only phones to feature this sensor so far. In the future as well, it is expected to remain exclusive to Vivo smartphones.

There are Samsung HP3 and HP2 200-megapixel cameras as well, but those are not expected to be widely used in 2026.

OmniVision OV52A

The upcoming OmniVision OV52A 200-megapixel camera sensor, which is reportedly built on a 40nm process, is a 1/2.8-inch sensor. Since it does not use AON (Alternating Optical Array), it is said to consume less power than the flagship-grade 50-megapixel OV50Q sensor. The OV52A is expected to appear on mid-range and even higher-end phones in 2026.

Sony LYT-901

Sony has already launched the Sony LYT-901 sensor, and it is expected to be seen on premium flagships this year. It is a 1/1.12-inch 200-megapixel stacked CMOS smartphone image sensor with 0.7µm pixels, Quad-Quad Bayer Coding, on-sensor AI remosaicing, all-pixel AF, and up to 4× in-sensor zoom.

Vivo and iQOO

Starting October 2025, the 200-megapixel camera trend picked up by being made available on mid-range phones such as the Vivo V60e (globally available) and Vivo Y500 Pro (confined to China). Both phones feature the Samsung HP5 200-megapixel camera.

The Samsung HPB is available as the primary sensor on the Vivo X300, whereas the X300 Pro uses it for its periscope telephoto camera.

The recently unveiled iQOO Z11 Turbo is also equipped with the Samsung HP5 200-megapixel camera.

Oppo

The Oppo Find X9 Pro is equipped with a 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 periscope telephoto camera in its triple camera setup.

The Oppo Reno 15 series, including the Reno 15 and Reno 15 Pro, which have debuted, are also equipped with the same sensor.

Globally, the Reno 15 Pro / Reno 15 Pro Mini / Reno 15 Pro Max, which are the same phones with different branding for different markets, feature a 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 sensor. The global version of the Reno 15 also uses the same sensor.

Realme

The Realme GT 8 Pro is equipped with the Samsung HP5 as the primary sensor. This sensor is also available as the primary camera on the Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+.

Honor

The Honor Magic 8 Pro flagship phone features the Samsung HP9. The Honor 500 and 500 Pro, which are currently available only in China, feature the Samsung HP3 200-megapixel camera sensor.

Samsung

The Galaxy Z TriFold, which is Samsung’s first tri-foldable phone, features the Samsung HP2 200-megapixel camera sensor.

Xiaomi

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Redmi Note 15 Pro (global), and Redmi Note 15 Pro+ (global) are equipped with the 200-megapixel Samsung HPE sensor, which is reportedly based on the Samsung HP3. The Redmi Note 15 Pro series’ Chinese editions feature a 50-megapixel main camera.

The Find X9 Ultra will feature a quad-camera setup, which will include a 200-megapixel Sony LYT-901 main camera and a 200-megapixel OmniVision OV52A periscope telephoto camera.

These phones are expected to debut in March in China. The Find N6 and Find X9 Ultra are also poised to launch globally soon after.

Vivo

Apart from the Oppo Find N6, the Vivo X300 Ultra is another flagship phone expected to feature dual 200-megapixel cameras powered by the Sony LYT-901 and Samsung HPB sensors.

The Vivo X300s, which may launch alongside the Ultra variant, may feature a 200-megapixel Samsung HPB sensor.

Both phones are rumored to launch around March or April this year in China. The X300s may remain China-exclusive for some time, while the X300 Ultra may debut globally soon after.

Honor

The Honor Magic V6 foldable phone is also expected to feature a 200-megapixel camera. It will be showcased at MWC 2026.

Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, expected to launch by the end of February, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which may debut by mid-2026, are also expected to feature 200-megapixel primary cameras, similar to their previous generations.

Other upcoming 200MP phones

The Honor 600, Honor 600 Pro, Redmi Note 16 Pro+ (China), Oppo Find X10, and OnePlus 16, arriving later this year, are all rumored to feature 200-megapixel primary cameras.

Vivo is expected to host a launch event in March to announce the Vivo X300 Ultra. Rumours suggest that the brand may also unveil the Vivo X300s as an incremental upgrade over the Vivo X300, which was announced in October 2025 in China. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station, has revealed the key specifications of the X300s.

Vivo X300s specifications (rumored)

According to the tipster, the Vivo X300s will have a flat display surrounded by equally sized slim bezels on all four sides. On the back, it will feature a circular camera module.

On the front, it will sport a 6.78-inch 1.5K OLED screen, while the rear panel will house a 200-megapixel main camera accompanied by a mid-tier periscope telephoto camera. Under the hood, it will feature the upcoming Dimensity 9500 Plus chipset, which is said to be an overclocked version of the existing Dimensity 9500.

The X300s will pack a large battery of around 7,000mAh capacity. In comparison, the X300 features a smaller 6,040mAh battery. It will also include other features such as an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor and a waterproof chassis.

While there are speculations about the Vivo X300 Ultra’s global release, the X300s may remain confined to the Chinese market for about a year. The reason behind this is that the Vivo X200s, which debuted in China in April 2025, is expected to be rebranded as the Vivo X200T globally later this month or in early February. Similarly, the Vivo X300s may be rebadged as the Vivo X300T for the global market in 2027.

In related news, Vivo’s March launch event in China will not only see the arrival of the X300 Ultra and X300s but also the brand’s first-ever action camera. However, the rumor mill is yet to leak concrete details about the action camera’s specifications and features.
