Yesterday, Vivo announced the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship which turned out to be the first 6GB RAM smartphone. The phone features pretty powerful specifications along with smart software to ensure the best performance. In the looks department as well, the phone is pretty impressive. It features a dual curved edge display, similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge in an all metal body that accounts for nearly 98% metal.

The body is made out of aluminum-magnesium alloy with a lot of processing on it like zirconium sanding, double c-cut edges, single crystal diamond mirror coating etc. The phone is pretty slim as well, featuring a 7.59mm body. There are two color options available namely champagne gold and rose gold.

As for the specs, the phone comes with a Super AMOLED 5.43-inch display with 2K resolution. Under the hood, there’s 4GB/ 6GB RAM options and SD652 / SD820 CPU depending on the variant. The Elite version features the much powerful SD820. For storage, you get 128GB which is more than enough for your everyday needs.

At the back, there’s a Sony IMX298 sensor with electronic OIS and dual tone flash. Front features an 8MP shooter. Despite its thin size, the company has managed to fit in a large 3600mAh battery with twin charging chips. Finally, there are Hi-Fi chips on both the variants to ensure that the audio output is top-notch.

There’s no doubt that this is a powerful handset. The standard XPlay 5 version starts at 3698 Yuan ($564) while the Elite version retails for 4288 Yuan which is close to $654.

In the past few years, we have seen companies break the barriers of our imaginations with smartphones powered by 10-core processors, 4K displays and many more innovations. And today, Vivo’s XPlay 5 has set a new milestone for smartphones, coming with a whopping 6GB of RAM onboard. The company announced the flagship a few minutes back, revealing its monstrous specifications.

The phone looks beautiful with its dual edge screen. It looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with the Vivo branding on top. The company claims that the body of the Vivo XPlay 5 is made out of 98% metal! That’s pretty impressive. Further, you have the speaker grills at the bottom along with the new age USB Type-C connector. Vivo also confirms that the phone will come in two colors namely Champagne gold and Rose gold.

As for the specs, the phone comes with the powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM on board. This is the most powerful setup that we have seen in a smartphone yet. Expect the phone to break a lot of records in terms of performance. What’s more, you get a massive 128GB internal storage as standard. Now, that’s some high-end stuff.

The phone will naturally come with the latest iteration of Android 6.0. But Vivo’s software comes with a special wisdom self-learning engine which reportedly ensures that the CPU and memory performance are top-notch via smart resource scheduling. We don’t know how exactly it will boost the performance of the Vivo XPlay 5, so we will have to see it in action to judge whether there is any noticeable performance improvements.

The XPlay 5 flagship features a dual curved edge SUPER AMOLED display measuring 5.43-inches. The resolution is 2K which means images and videos on the device will be sharp and clear. The company has reportedly used a special design to ensure that the screen is protected from breakage. Further, you get Corning’s Gorilla Glass on top.

As expected, the Vivo XPlay 5 comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back. The company claims that you can unlock the device in just 0.4 seconds. And if the screen is on, the process takes just 0.2 seconds.

Coming to the camera, the XPlay 5 comes with the same 16MP Sony IMX298 f/2.0 aperture sensor as the Xiaomi Mi 5. In addition to this, the phone features special processing technology developed in partnership with ArcSoft for better low light images.

The camera starts up in just 0.4 seconds and focuses in 0.1 seconds so that you never miss out on any action. Up front, you have an 8MP camera.

As for the battery, you get a large 3600mAh capacity battery inside, with dual charging chips. This ensures almost twice the charging speed as compared to normal smartphones. As for the connectivity feature, you get Wi-Fi+ for faster and stable speeds. The phone supports all the three carriers in China and features dual SIM dual standby. Further, the phone comes with 4G+ support which ensures download speeds up to 300Mbps.

And yes, Vivo wouldn’t leave Hi-Fi out of its newest flagship. So, the phone comes with Hi-Fi 3.0 with ES9028 + OPA1612 chips for superior audio quality. Plus, there’s a new headset as well, the XE1000 to go along with the XPlay 5.

So, this was the Vivo XPlay 5 high-end edition. Like expected, there’s an XPlay 5 standard edition as well powered by Snapdragon 652 and 4GB of RAM. There are only a few differences between the two editions. Apart from the CPU and RAM, the Hi-Fi chip inside is different. The standard version comes with CS4398 + AD45257 Hi-Fi chip.

Finally, coming to the pricing of both the devices, the Vivo XPlay 5 Top-End edition will retail for 4288 Yuan which is appox. $654. The standard edition with SD652 will retail for 3698 Yuan which is around $564.

The release date is yet to be revealed.

So what do you think? Is the pricing fair for such a monstrous smartphone?

Vivo is all set to announce its XPlay 5 flagship today evening at Beijing’s Water Cube Convention center. Thanks to the numerous leaks and rumors that have been going around on the internet, we have a fair idea as to what to expect from this device. It’s going to be the world’s first 6GB RAM smartphone and we can expect some great specs to go along with it.

Now, according to the analyst Pan Jiutang, Vivo may also announce other products at the event, alongside the XPlay flagship. Pricing is still a mystery, but the analyst hints that the top-end version with 6GB of RAM may set a new record for domestic pricing of a smartphone. Well, if that’s the case, then the XPlay 5 top-end version will be out of the reach of most users. Considering the hints, the phone could retail upwards of 5000 Yuan which is almost $765.

So, what do you think? If the price is indeed this much, then is $700 a bit too much even for a Vivo device with 6GB RAM?

Vivo has been teasing a lot of features about the upcoming Vivo XPlay 5 flagship. The phone is going to come with a whopping 6GB of RAM on board, along with the powerful Snapdragon 820. Now, the same phone has been spotted on the benchmarking website GFXbench as well as Geekbench.

The GFXBench listing reveals that the Vivo PD1522A, most likely the XPlay flagship will feature a 5.4-inch 2K display (2560 x 1440p). However, benchmarking apps often mistake the screen size of the device, so let’s wait for an official confirmation. As for the other specs, the phone features a Snapdragon octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz (most like SD 652) with 4GB of RAM on board. Yes, this seems to be the low-end version, as the company has confirmed a high-end 6GB RAM model of the device which ships with Snapdragon 820.

Vivo has been quite generous with the on board storage, providing a massive 128GB ROM. So, even if there’s no MicroSD card slot (currently we can’t confirm it), storage space won’t be an issue. Other specs as revealed by GFXBench include 16MP rear camera with 4K support and an 8MP front facing shooter with 2K video support. This seems to be a single SIM model without NFC.

So, it looks like there will be two version of the XPlay 5, one with SD652 and 4GB and the other with SD820 and 6GB of RAM. Recently, two Vivo XPlay 5 models passed 3C certification in China, namely Vivo XPlay 5 A and XPlay 5 L further adding to its possibility.

Moreover, the same model was spotted on the Geekbench website, revealing decent scores. The device was running on an underpowered variant of the Snapdragon 615 clocked at just 1.4GHz with 4GB RAM on board. So, it managed to score just 1587 and 4667 in the single and multi-core tests respectively.

We will have to wait for the performance of the high-end variant with 6GB of RAM. AnTuTu benchmark showed that the phone was going to be powerful, so it’s only a matter of time that the true power of this SD820 device is confirmed again on apps like Geekbench and GFXBench.

Come March 1, we will meet the world’s first 6GB RAM smartphone. The company has even released a video to show how fast it is as compared to the iPhone 6S powered by the powerful Apple A9 chipset. You can check out that video from here.

Vivo is going big with its upcoming Vivo XPlay 5 flagship. The phone is confirmed to be the first 6GB RAM smartphone in the market. Along with such a large RAM module, the XPlay 5 will also feature one of the fastest chips this year, the Snapdragon 820. What’s more, the company has also confirmed that the phone will come with dual curved edge display, adding to the beauty of the device. As you can see from the specs, the phone is really going to be extraordinary.

Now, we might have a first look at the phone, thanks to the leaked Vivo XPlay 5 renders. To be honest, they look quite good and if the phone is anything like the one in the renders, then Vivo has done a very good job with its upcoming flagship. The phone features a borderless design, with the edges curved on both the sides like the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Taking these Vivo XPlay 5 renders into consideration, the phone most likely comes with a beautiful design. Plus the specs are powerful as confirmed by the company in the past few days, which is a deadly combination.

In fact, Vivo is sticking with its tradition of revealing a new feature every day, as a few hours back, the company confirmed that the Vivo XPlay 5 will come with Hi-Fi 3.0. In case you follow the brand, you would know that Vivo’s smartphone have always been known for their Hi-Fi audio, so its no surprise that the company decided to use the new Hi-Fi 3.0 standard in its flagship device.

Vivo XPlay 5 is turning out to be a beast with these features and we are now all the more excited to meet the device at the launch on March 1. However, considering Vivo’s pricing strategy, don’t expect this beast to be cheap. You might want deep pockets if you are planning to get hold of this device sometime in the coming weeks.

But if the phone is priced somewhere around $500-$600, would you be interested?

It looks like nearly two years of waiting for the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship was totally worth it. A few minutes ago, Vivo confirmed via its official weibo page that its upcoming Vivo XPlay 5 flagship will feature a whopping 6GB of RAM onboard. Yes, this is not a typo, and it’s confirmed directly by the company. So, on March 1, at Beijing’s Water Cube Convention Center, we will probably meet the world’s first 6GB RAM smartphone (unless Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 6GB version).

The Vivo XPlay 5 will really mark a new era of powerful smartphones with 6GB of RAM. Last year, we reported that Samsung’s new age DRAM chips made it possible for smartphones with 6GB of RAM. So, the RAM inside the Vivo flagship should be supplied by Samsung.

What’s more, you get the powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor inside, which is once again confirmed by the company, to ensure that the phone performs better than most other flagships. Even the LG G5 and Galaxy S7 flagships which were announced yesterday came with just 4GB of RAM. So, Vivo seems to be have done a great job providing the additional 2GB RAM on board the XPlay 5 handset.

As for the specs, it’s confirmed that the phone will feature a dual edge display, probably with 2K resolution. Other rumored specs include a large 6-inch screen, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and a 4300mAh battery. Given that Vivo has decided to reveal its important features via teasers ahead of its release, we can expect most of these specs to be confirmed before Vivo XPlay 5 releases officially.

The company is all set to announce the device on March 1, which is a week away. So, after the exciting series of announcements at MWC 2016, we will meet the powerful XPlay 5.

So, what do you think about adding 6GB RAM inside a smartphone? Is it overkill or do you think its practical?

For the past few days, Vivo has been teasing the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship. The company confirmed the name yesterday and now, it has revealed the release date of the device as well. According to the latest teaser from the company, Vivo XPlay 5 release date is set for March 1, just after MWC 2016 concludes. Following the tradition of most Chinese smartphone releases, the XPlay 5 will also be launched at the famous Beijing Water Cube Center aka National Aquatics Center at 19:30 on the above-mentioned date.

We have been hearing a lot of powerful stuff about the upcoming Vivo XPlay 5 flagship. In fact, the company has said that the upcoming flagship will bring a lot of innovations and breakthroughs in its screen structure, materials, and other technology. Well, we can imagine what the company is hinting at from the innovative screen structure, as it has already kind of confirmed that the phone will feature dual curved screen display. Even in the software department, the phone will reportedly have a few innovations.

So, could Vivo finally unleash the beast this year? After nearly two years of waiting, the upcoming XPlay 5 flagship could satisfy our hunger for innovation and power. Other rumored specs of the device are also quite powerful. The phone is said to come with Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset with a whopping 6GB of RAM. There are some other hard to believe rumors about the device like solar charging and a 31MP camera. In fact, you can read all about the leaked specs of the phone from this article.

READ MORE: Analyst Says Vivo XPlay 5 May Feature 6GB RAM

Interestingly, noted analyst from China, Pan Jiutang had said back in January that the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship may come with 6GB of RAM. So, even if that’s going to be true, with SD820 on board, the phone will be super fast.

But apart from the Vivo XPlay 5 release date and dual edge screen, nothing else is confirmed about the device. We will have to wait and see what the company meant by saying that the phone had several innovative features.

The post Vivo XPlay 5 Release Date Confirmed, Will Feature Innovative Tech appeared first on Gizmochina.

Its been a long time since Vivo updated its XPlay lineup with a new device. But that’s going to change soon since the company has started releasing teasers for the same. Yesterday, we guessed that the upcoming Vivo device would be called as the Vivo XPlay 5. Now, the company has confirmed this name along with an important feature of the device.

Vivo has confirmed that the Vivo XPlay 5 will come with a borderless design. So, it looks like the flagship will come with dual curved screens. We should have actually guessed it from yesterday’s teaser itself. However at that time, we assumed the teaser showed off the top of the smartphone. But now, with the dual curved screen design confirmed, we can actually see that the teaser yesterday had already hinted about this feature.

The dual curved screen panel would most likely be from Samsung since industry chain sources had earlier revealed that the South Korean giant had improved the production capacity of its panels and was ready to supply it to domestic manufacturers. It looks like Vivo could be the first company outside of Samsung to use this curved screen panel.

While dual curved screen display would be the selling point of the device, yesterday’s Vivo XPlay 5 specs leak revealed a lot many other interesting features. It is said that the phone will come with the fast Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM. This would make it the first phone with such a large RAM memory. Other rumored specs include a 6-inch 2K display, 4000mAh battery and Hi-Fi audio.

Vivo is really taking things to the next level with its XPlay 5 flagship. So, it looks like two years of waiting might very well be worth it. This could also pave the way for other manufacturers to release dual curved screen flagships. We have already heard rumors about Xiaomi and Huawei developing curved screen devices and we could see them sometime this year.
