Besides, it looks like the price cut is for all the models as Vivo’s official website lists everything for ₹500 less. This is because the device debuted way back in 2019 at a starting price of ₹7,990($107) for the base 2GB/16GB variant.

Vivo Y91i Specifications

Being a Smartphone from 2019, Vivo Y91i certainly has less features for 2020. However, at the price, it can get the job done if you use it casually. It comes in Ocean Blue and Fusion Black color options. Vivo initially debuted the 2GB RAM variant but brought the higher 3GB RAM exactly a year later this year. There is a 6.22-inch HD+ display with a 1520×720 pixel resolution. It has a waterdrop notch and is protected by 2.5D glass.

Under the hood, we have MediaTek’s Helio P22 SoC paired with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. For optics, there is a single rear 13 MP sensor with a single LED flash and the front has a 5MP selfie shooter. Other features include a 4,030mAh battery, 4G, Wi-FI(2.4GHz), FM Radio, GPS, MicroSD slot, Bluetooth 5.0, and face-unlock albeit lacking a fingerprint sensor. As per the official website, it runs Funtouch OS based on Android 8.1(Oreo)

Originally, only the 2GB RAM variant was available in the country and launched with a price tag of INR 7,990, which is the same as the 3GB RAM variant that has just launched.

Specs and Features

The Vivo Y91i is essentially the same smartphone that launched a year prior. In other words, the RAM offering is the only real difference between the now and 2019 releases. The smartphone sports a 6.22 inch Hao FullView display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and an HD+ resolution (1,520 × 720px). On the front, a water drop notch can be found while a 2.5D curved glass covers the rear.

The smartphone is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor alongside IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The Vivo Y91i houses 32GB of internal storage and also supports expansion via a microSD card. It runs the dated Android 8.1 (Oreo) with the custom skin FunTouch OS.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei Watch GT 2 (42mm) Smart Watch is now available for a Lowered Price on Giztop

For photography, it sports a single camera on the rear which is a 13 megapixel sensor with a single LED flash while the front features a 8 megapixel shooter. The device is powered by a large 4,030mAh battery and supports 4G networking, alongside Bluetooth 5.0 and weighs 163.5 grams. Unfortunately, it does not feature a fingerprint scanner, so users will have to rely on the face unlock function.

Price and Availability

The Chinese company was rumoured to be planning to launch the Vivo Y91i in India today and that has turned out to be true. The Y91i is now official in India just about five months after launching the Y91 which was first released in November last year.

Vivo Y91i is very much similar to the Y91 in terms of design and even in the specifications but it comes with a cheaper price tag. The same resemblance exists with the Y91i sold in other markets such as Malaysia and Thailand. The Y91i is similar to the earlier Y91i in design but the earlier model packs a Snapdragon 439 chipset. O note, though, that the new Y91i is India’s version of the Y91C which is currently available in Pakistan.

In terms of the specification, the phone features a 6.22-inch display with HD+ resolution of 720x1520pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The device has a waterdrop notch (halo) which houses the selfie camera just like the Y91. The Vivo Y91i is powered by the 12nm MediaTek Helio P22 (MT6762) chipset. This is paired with 2GB of RAM while there is 16GB storage on the base model and 32GB for the higher variant. The device comes with a microSD card slot for expansion.

In other aspects, the Y91i packs an 8 MP front camera which is also used for facial recognition since there is no fingerprint sensor at the back. The device equally packs a single 13MP f/2.2 shooter at the rear. For software, Vivo Y91i runs on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.5 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. Dual SIM slots are present and the device is powered by a solid 4,030 mAh battery, which can be topped up via the dated microUSB.

As for the pricing, the Y91i starts at RS7990 ($114) for the 2GB+16GB variant. The 2GB+32GB variant is priced at Rs 8490 ($121). Considering the design and hardware configuration, the pricing is just spot-on and will surely ensure the device rakes in huge sales for the BBK subsidiary. The smartphone is already on sale in India and buyers get color options such as Fusion Black, Sunset Red and Ocean Blue.
