Technology, just as it simplifies our lives, can also introduce new problems. For example, “motion sickness”, a nuisance today, was a concern that no one had to deal with 100 years ago. For those unfamiliar, motion sickness is a feeling of nausea, dizziness, and vomiting that can occur when traveling in a car, boat, plane, or other moving vehicles. It can also be experienced during amusement park rides or in virtual reality settings. Now, Huawei has released an anti-motion sickness patent aimed at completely eliminating this issue. Huawei’s motion sickness prevention system could be a game-changer for VR

Motion sickness occurs when the brain receives conflicting information from the vestibular, visual, and proprioceptive systems. For example, when someone is riding in a car, their eyes may see the car interior as stationary, but their vestibular system will sense the car’s movement. This conflict can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Fortunately, Huawei has released a patent for a new system that could help to prevent motion sickness.

The system works by generating real-time images of the vehicle’s movement relative to the road or ground. These images are then displayed on the vehicle’s infotainment system, allowing passengers to see themselves moving along with the vehicle. This helps to reduce or eliminate the conflict between visual and vestibular signals, which is the main cause of motion sickness.

Huawei’s motion sickness prevention system would address this conflict by providing passengers with accurate visual information about the vehicle’s movement. This would allow passengers to “follow the body with their eyes,” which could help to prevent or reduce the symptoms of motion sickness.

The system is still in the patent stage, and it is not yet known when it will be available in vehicles. However, the technology has the potential to be a major breakthrough in the fight against motion sickness. Especially considering the increase in popularity of AR/VR technology.

Black Shark patents VR device that can read lips for hearing impaired people

Black Shark is apparently working on an interesting new product that will be made for people with disabilities. The company has just recently patented a VR based product (virtual reality) that is built to aid people with hearing impairment.

The Chinese smartphone maker’s patent was recently spotted by ITHome. Looking at the official patent description, the company is working on a new VR glasses type of device that houses its own mobile power supply and a display unit. Furthermore, the upcoming VR device is apparently capable of a very interesting feature. This gadget will have a dedicated module to read lip and lip language. In other words, it would be able to recognize lip movement and sent the relevant information to the VR device wearer.

The data would likely be transcribed in the form of audio or possibly displayed on the VR device’s display. Interestingly enough, we had covered a report earlier this year regarding Tencent acquiring Black Shark. The former was rumored to be making this move as it sought to step into the Metaverse. For those unaware, Black Shark has been a brand that has been in the gaming industry for sometime now and would’ve reportedly develop VR hardware for the metaverse. Meanwhile, Tencent would’ve been responsible for the software content on the company’s new VR product.

Keep in mind that this is still just a patent. This means that we have no idea if the brand is actually working on such a product or is simply covering all bases. But if it is true, then the company is clearly focusing on improving accessibility to more consumers across the market. Xiaomi Silently Announces Mi VR Play 2: New Design, ¥99 ($14) Price

Last year, Xiaomi joined the VR train with two VR Glasses. First was the Mi VR Play, a Google cardboard styled VR glasses that’s covered in lycra. It was then followed by the Mi VR a couple of months later. The Mi VR still needs a phone to function but is more sophisticated and has a motion controller.

Less than a year after the release of the Mi VR Play, Xiaomi has announced a successor called the Mi VR Play 2. The new VR glasses ditches the rectangular design from last year and instead has a pill shaped front and an overall curved profile.

This new design will probably give the Mi VR Play 2 a size smaller than that of its predecessor. Another major change is the use of a single elastic nylon headband instead of adjustable straps and the removal of the zipper.

The absence of a zipper might not go down well with everyone as it provided a way for you to keep your phone completely hidden inside the Mi VR Play. Promotional images for the Mi VR Play 2 shows the phone sticking out at one side, although that might not happen if you are using a phone like the Mi 5, Mi 5s or Mi 5C.

The glasses is definitely made out of plastic but is wrapped with a strong elastic cotton called “dragon cloth”. The part that sits on your face is lined with a padded porous material for comfort. The VR glass has a 93° FOV, measures 129 × 191 × 120 mm and weighs 183g. It will support phones with screen sizes between 4.7 – 5.7-inches with at least a 1080p resolution.

The Mi VR Play 2 will cost just ¥99 (~$14) and will go on sale on the 19th of April. Sadly, it is only available in black for now.

Official Photos of Honor V9: Comes with VR Glasses!

Earlier today, Huawei unveiled the Honor V9; a dual-camera stunner that screams high-end in all ways. We have been able to get our hands on some official images of the Honor V9. We hope you like them as much as we do but you might be disappointed the red variant doesn’t make an appearance.

The Honor V9 is bundled in a blue cardboard box. Apart from the usual accessories such as the charger and cable, there is a makeshift VR Glasses in the box. The box already has cut-outs for the eyes and nose. All you have to do is attach the lens. That’s a nice addition since the Honor V9 is VR ready. There is a chance that there are some VR apps bundled with the phone but we have not been able to confirm that.

One thing you’ll notice is that Huawei has paid a lot of attention to the design of the phone. This is a trend that we can say started with the Huawei P9 and spread to the Honor series. The edges are curved and the dual cameras and dual LED flash line-up perfectly on the antenna line.

The Honor V9 in these images are the black and blue variants. There is a 2.5D glass covering the display but the back is plain metal. The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is positioned close to the top, and there is the Honor branding at the bottom.

One thing we wish we could change is the size of the top and bottom bezels. We believe it could have been made smaller since the phone makes use of on-screen navigational buttons. Nonetheless, the device still looks amazing.

Pricing for the Honor V9 starts at ¥2599 ($377) and goes up to ¥3499 ($508). You should be able to purchase a unit starting on the 28th from Amazon.cn, JD.com, and Tmall.com

OnePlus 3 official release date is approaching and I was one of the lucky ones that managed to get the OnePlus Loop VR headset for free. Well, I just needed to pay the shipping fee of 7 EUR, to be precise. I spent some time with it and here is my full review.

OnePlus VR Headset Review: DESIGN and FEATURES

The very first thing that is going to impress you is the build quality. I’m not sure what will be the retails price of it but I presume it will be around $30.

The headset uses high-quality plastic, rubber, foam and other materials and the device does not look cheap at all.

The one and only thing that you can control is the distance between your eyes. I was disappointed that you cannot control the distance between the phone and your eyes. Also, you have to know that this is a passive headset, meaning that there are no control buttons.

I am not going to talk too much what you can do with any basic VR headset but you can check out the video of the Blitzwolf VR headset review for that.

In order to start using the VR headset, you have to slide your phone in and for this review I used the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. There is some foam and rubber inside the sliding part and it kept my phone secure. Well, this review would have been completely different otherwise.

When it comes to any VR headset, one of the key aspects is comfort. Unfortunately, the OnePlus headset fails in this department.

I may sound a little subjective, or my nose has a weird shape, or my head has a weird shape… I don’t know… but the main issue is that there is no cushion on the nose part and it is really uncomfortable. You can partly solve this issue by sliding the headset up to your forehead but it may slide back.

OnePlus VR Headset Review: CONCLUSIONS

I can’t complain much about the OnePlus VR headset since I got it for free. In fact, I love a great build quality and a choice of materials. However, you cannot adjust the distance between the phone and your eyes.

Also, I didn’t find the headset to be comfortable to wear. I’m not sure for how much OnePlus is going to sell it but I have reviewed some other cheap options that may not have that great build quality of the OnePlus VR headset, but they are more comfortable to wear.
