Earlier today (5th August), Redmi officially shared a new video on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, in which it dismantled 3 K40 Game Editions to build something quite unique. The company used the parts from these devices to build a Mecha Fighter styled after the popular Chinese actor Wang Yibo.

For those unaware, Wang Yibo is also the Chinese smartphone maker’s brand ambassador. In the social media post, the company said that it took 90 days to recreate this Mecha Fighter model that was built by salvaging the 3 smartphones. Furthermore, Redmi had to reorganize and assemble over 600 parts from these phones to create this Mecha Fighter as a birthday gift to Wang Yibo.

Looking at the video, we can observe the devices’ were dismantled by hand while the brand even uses 3D printing technology to create a realistic mold of Wang Yibo’s face; or rather half of it, as the brand sought to create a look which was quite similar to the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic Terminator. In other words, while one half of the face is just the mold, the other half contains various parts of the K40 Game Edition phones to showcase a robotic skeleton underneath the “skin.” The various internal components extend to the neck and a bit lower as well.

Redmi is set to launch two of its latest smartphones — Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro on 25th February in China. Ahead of the launch, the company has also started taking reservations for the devices.

Now, with just a couple of days left for the official announcement, the company has today shared a teaser image for the smartphone which reveals its back panel design. It also confirms that the device is being endorsed by Wang Yibo.

The teaser image showcases the back panel, which isn’t a solid color but features a water-like pattern that has diagonal strokes moving from upper right to downwards. This is also the first full appearance of the Redmi K40 Black Edition.

Both the smartphones in the Redmi K40 series will come with a 6.67-inch display with E4 Samsung AMOLED Full HD+ panel and 120Hz refresh rate. They will also have a punch-hole cutout for housing the front-facing camera.

The Pro model will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset while the standard model is expected to have Snapdragon 700-series chipset or the Snapdragon 870 SoC. Apart from that, the devices are expected to come packed with up to 8GB DDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

They will have support for 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Dual Stereo Speakers, and more. The difference will be in the camera configuration, although both are expected to have AI triple-camera setup on the back. While the standard model may have 64MP primary sensor, the Pro model may come with an 108MP sensor.

In the software department, the devices are expected to be running the latest Android 11 operating system with the company’s own MIUI 12.5 on top. The phones are said to be powered by a 4,420mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

After opening reservations a couple of days back, the Redmi K40 series has already received more than 230,000 reservation requests. Ahead of the launch, the company has already hinted that the Redmi K40 Pro could start at 2,999 yuan (approximately $462).

Lenovo, the China-based company making consumer electronics, has confirmed that it has appointed Wang Yibo as the global brand ambassador. For those who are unaware, Wang Yibo is a Chinese actor, dancer, singer, rapper, host, and professional motorcycle racer.

Being a brand ambassador, he will now be endorsing all of the consumer products from Lenovo, including notebooks, desktops, tablets, and personal cloud storage peripheral products, as well as the company’s YOGA lineup of devices.

Given the popularity of Wang Yibo among the youngsters and its status as one of the idols for the next-generation, it makes sense for Lenovo to get him as an ambassador. The company will be projecting him to highlight features like strength, innovation, exploration.

Lenovo has been doing good in the laptops market. As per the report, in the first half of this year, the company’s market share reached 32.8 percent — a record for the brand. The company is among the top five laptop makers, which also lists HP, Dell, Apple, and Acer.

It appears that Wang Yibo was also appointed as a Global Brand Ambassador for the Redmi brand in May earlier this year. Prior to that, he was an ambassador for one of the smartphones from the brand.
