Huawei announced the Watch GT last October alongside the Mate 20 series. It launched in India in March this year and got two new variants in the same month. Eight months after its launch, Huawei says it has shipped 2 million units of the smartwatch.

The announcement was made on the official Huawei Mobile Twitter account yesterday. The Watch GT has a 1.39-inch OLED display, runs Huawei’s own LiteOS, has a Cortex-M4 processor, GPS, heart rate sensor, and lasts up to two weeks (30 days with heart rate and GPS turned off).

Huawei has done well as an IDC report says it is market share grew the largest in Q1 2019. However, Apple is still the global market leader.

We probably won’t get a successor to the Watch GT until later this year when Huawei announces the Mate 30 series. The successor should have a new design as well as new fitness-tracking and health-oriented features.

Huawei launched the Watch GT in October alongside the Mate 20 series. Today, Huawei announced two new variants – the Watch GT Active Edition and a smaller version, called the Watch GT Elegant Edition for those with smaller wrist sizes.

The Huawei Watch GT Elegant Edition has a 42mm ceramic bezel, a 1.2 inch 390 x 390 AMOLED display, and a fluoroelastomer strap. It also has a smaller battery capacity which lasts up to 1 week on a single charge, unlike the 46mm model which has a 2-week battery life. The rest of the specs are the same as the original Watch GT. The Watch GT Elegant Edition comes in white and black and is priced at €229.

The Watch GT Active Edition comes in two new color variants – green and orange. These new variants also have a Titanium gray case and a redesigned bezel but the internals hasn’t changed and battery life remains 2 weeks. Huawei says this new variant will sell for €249. There is no info on when it will be available for purchase.

In addition, a new feature will be coming to the Watch GT called Triathlon mode which will allow you to track swimming, cycling, and long-distance running activities at a stretch. The feature will begin rolling out as an update soon.
