<p>Following its innovative &#8220;<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/04/elon-musk-starlink-internet-smartphone/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">cellphone tower in space</a>&#8221; announcement, Elon Musk&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/starlink/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Starlink </a>is now working on something more grounded. While the company has its expertise in satellite communication and internet connectivity, it might be launching a new WiFi 6 router soon. So here are all the details.</p>

<h2>Starlink WiFi 6 Router certified on FCC and IMDA</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC.png?x44794" alt="Starlink WiFi 6 Router" class="wp-image-601833" width="641" height="611" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC-300x286.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC-768x732.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC-696x663.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-WiFi-6-Router-FCC-441x420.png 441w" sizes="(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px" /></figure></div>

<p>SpaceX&#8217;s Starlink is apparently working on a new WiFi 6 router, which was spotted on the IMDA and FCC database. The IMDA certification revealed that it carries the UTR-232 model number and was listed as a low power WLAN device. On the other hand, the FCC listing confirmed that it will utilize the same wireless bands as other WiFi 6 routers.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="Starlink WiFi 6 Router" class="wp-image-601823" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Starlink-Router-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>It also adds that the upcoming router features two built in LAN ports and will house two power adapters, namely UTP-231L and UTP-232C. The UTR-232 Wi-Fi 6 router is likely a finalized version of the UTR-231 Wi-Fi 6 router, which is a Gen 3 mesh router. To recall, the UTR-231 is expected to be an accessory for existing Starlink customers to boost their connectivity with Starlink&#8217;s coverage. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA.jpeg?x44794" alt="Starlink WiFi 6 Router" class="wp-image-601832" width="695" height="391" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/SpaceX-Starlink-Router-IMDA-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px" /></figure></div>

<p>In the past, Starlink&#8217;s dish came bundled with the Gen 1 and Gen 2 WiFi routers that only supported the WiFi 5 standard. The upcoming Gen 3 mesh router supporting WiFi 6 means that users can expect much faster broadband speeds. Apart from this, users also gain access to faster broadband speeds, improved energy efficiency on mobile phone devices, and lesser bandwidth congestion. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stay tuned for more updates.</p>

<h5><strong>ZTE P3 Smart Tag</strong></h5>
<p>Quite a number of manufacturers have jumped into the smart tag business. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> announced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-galaxy-smarttag-smarttag-bluetooth-trackers-launched-price-starts-at-29/">its own smart tags</a> earlier this year alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-5g/">Galaxy S21</a> series. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">OPPO</a> is also working on its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/05/oppo-smart-tag-design-revealed-in-patent-images/">own smart tag</a> but it is yet to launch.</p>

<p><strong>ZTE AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router</strong></p>
<p>The ZTE AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Router is a more advanced router with support for simultaneous use of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/5G">5G</a> and broadband for dual-gigabit connections. It also has NFC for one-touch connection.</p>

The recently launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/20/mi-router-ax1800-sale-china/">Mi Router AX1800</a> is a bit cheaper, costing 299 yuan, which is about $46.</p>
<p>On the other hand, Xiaomi&#8217;s sub-brand Redmi also debuted its first Wi-Fi 6 compatible router last month, dubbed as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/09/redmi-ax5-wi-fi-6-router-launched/">Redmi AX5</a>. It is priced at 229 yuan, which is around $32, making it the cheapest Wi-Fi 6 router from the company so far.</p>

<p>A new Redmi branded router carrying model number AX1800 has passed through the 3C certification process. The certification confirms that the device is a Gigabit dual-band router.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-315204 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C.png?x44794" alt="Redmi Wi-Fi Router 3C Certification" width="1106" height="185" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C.png 1106w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C-300x50.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C-768x128.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C-1024x171.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C-696x116.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Redmi-WiFi-6-Router-3C-1068x179.png 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1106px) 100vw, 1106px" /></p>
<p>Apart from this, nothing is known about this upcoming product. However, one thing is sure that the Wi-Fi 6 router from Redmi will be priced lower than the similar router from Xiaomi which was launched recently.</p>
<p>Last month, along with the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones, Xiaomi had also launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/13/xiaomi-announces-mi-aiot-router-ax3600-with-support-for-wi-fi-6/">Mi AIoT Router AX3600</a> in China. It is a flagship router from the company which comes powered by Qualcomm’s IPQ8071A chipset and is coupled with 512MB of RAM and 256MB of storage capacity.</p>

The announcement was made by Zhi Hao, the President of Huawei&#8217;s Consumer business IoT product line.</p>
<p>According to the senior executive, the tech giant had achieved the 12 million unit shipment in 2019, with products priced over 200 Yuan (roughly 28 US Dollars) having the most dominant share. Notably, online sales accounted for this and 2019 as the sales up by 139 percent over 2019. This includes the company&#8217;s routers with the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wifi-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Wi-Fi 6</a> standards.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-313634 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/s_87192190cae345bf85d468f6bfa496a5.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="600" height="336" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/s_87192190cae345bf85d468f6bfa496a5.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/s_87192190cae345bf85d468f6bfa496a5-300x168.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, Wi-Fi 6 is the latest generation in the standards. One of the biggest improvements it has made is the introduction of 5G technology. In other words, it has two high and two low bandwidths (high bandwidth, high concurrency, low latency, low power consumption). This also translates to an overall faster networking speed support, with better and wider coverage over the previous generations.</p>

<p>As of right now, Huawei is one of the leading figures in Wi-Fi 6 routers and other AIoT products. 2019 saw the breakout of the technology while 2020 is already witnessing a more widespread commercial adoption. This means that 2020 may surpass even 2019 with its overall router sales figures, although thee recent coronavirus outbreak might have certain negative impacts on sales as well.</p>

<p>Huawei also used the press conference as a stage to talk about its new Wi-Fi 6+ technology. The new routers are based on a self developed custom chipset. It will also soon be found in Huawei smartphones, tablets, smart displays, and other terminals and routers as well. The new chipset is dubbed that Kirin W650 and takes advantage of the company&#8217;s end to end dynamic narrow bandwidth technology.</p>

In smartphones, UFS 3 storage is becoming a flagship standard alongside LPDDR5 memory. Similarly, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wi-fi-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Wi-Fi 6</a> standard is now quickly becoming the norm as well, both in smartphones and in WiFi routers. Now, a report suggests that the Wi-Fi 6 market share is being dominated by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huawei</a> in China and globally to a certain degree.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_306787" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-306787" style="width: 1581px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-306787 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei WiFi AX3" width="1581" height="1085" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router.jpg 1581w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-768x527.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-1024x703.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-696x478.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-1068x733.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Huawei_AX3-router-612x420.jpg 612w" sizes="(max-width: 1581px) 100vw, 1581px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-306787" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei WiFi AX3 (Supports Wi-Fi 6 Standards)</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>According to Dell&#8217;Oro, a research and analytics firm, Huawei products with Wi-Fi 6 ranked first with 49.7% of the total market share in China. Across the globe (excluding North America), the Chinese tech giant had a market share of 39% in the international market. This report was titled under Q3 of 2018 to 2019. Huawei was the first to launch Wi-Fi 6 branded products back in 2019 when the standard officially launched.</p>

<p>Notably, the company was already well ahead of the competition with various patents and proposals being submitted to the 802.11ax standard group. Huawei accounted for about 163 such proposals, which accounted for 15% of all proposals. This was the highest contribution from any vendor. The company is also a pioneering figure in 5G infrastructure and equipment, so it comes as no surprise that its expertise extends to include the new WiFi standard.</p>

<p>Recently, the company launched its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/24/huawei-5g-cpe-pro-2-and-wi-fi-ax3-officially-unveiled-specifications-and-features/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AX3 series of Wi-Fi 6 routers</a>. The reason for their specific mention is due to its properties since it was the first smart Wi-Fi 6 router. This was launched last month on 24th February 2020 and was known for its large bandwidth of 1024-QAM and 160MHz. Meaning, it was a dual band router with speeds as high as 3000Mbps (2.4GHz600Mbps + 5GHz 2400Mbps).</p>

But today, the company also revealed that the new router will be based on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> Networking Pro 600 Wi-Fi 6 platform, which is essentially built for enterprise-grade routers.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screenshot-2020-02-10-at-1.52.41-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-304658" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screenshot-2020-02-10-at-1.52.41-PM.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi wi-fi router teaser" width="686" height="538" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screenshot-2020-02-10-at-1.52.41-PM.png 686w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screenshot-2020-02-10-at-1.52.41-PM-300x235.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Screenshot-2020-02-10-at-1.52.41-PM-536x420.png 536w" sizes="(max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> has highlighted that the Mi AIoT AX3600 Wi-Fi ax router is the first to use an enterprise-grade platform for the consumer market. In the image shared on the company&#8217;s Weibo account, we can see that this router will be powered by Qualcomm&#8217;s IPQ8071 platform. The chipmaker explains that this platform is &#8220;the ideal architecture for retail routers, two-radio mesh networking systems, broadband gateways, as well as enterprise and carrier-class applications.&#8221;</p>
<p>The new-age Wi-Fi 6 promises to optimize power consumption and coverage capabilities of a router with support for high-speed concurrent connections. Other benefits of this new-generation connectivity include lower overall latency and high rate of data transmission.</p>
<p>We can expect more details about the new router in the next couple of days. It will officially launch alongside the Mi 10 series at an online-only event in China on Thursday, February 13.</p>
