<p>According to an <a href="https://m.ithome.com/html/601496.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>ITHome</em> </a>report, developer Gustave Monce of the main LumiaWoA project shared images of a Surface Duo running on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-11/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Windows 11</a> based on the ARM64 system. Previously, Gustave had also ported <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/25/windows-10x-spotted-running-on-nokia-lumia-950-xl/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Windows 10 OS on the American tech giant&#8217;s Lumia 950XL</a> as well. Similarly, he had also managed to port Windows 11 ARM on the dual display smartphone as well.</p>
<p>Now, it seems that the project has seen further progress as it is running on Windows 11 ARM64 system. For those unaware, Microsoft has officially ended the support for Windows 10 mobile, so the efforts of the WoA developers have helped older Lumia models receive updates and even refresh their entire OS as well. These developers are an independent group that has been working on the unofficial Windows on ARM project for the last year years.</p>

<p>The project initially focused on Windows 10, but with the launch of Windows 11, they are now also working on the newer operating system as well. Gustave even shared images of the Surface Duo running Windows 11. So it is safe to assume that the project will soon grow to include other devices soon.</p>

<p>Now, a video shared by B station UP master @Sunflower2333 showcases the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> Mi Pad 5 running the latest Windows 11 ARM operating system from Microsoft. This means that running the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10-arm">Windows 10 ARM</a> is also possible on the Mi Pad 5.</p>

<p>The device is smoothly running the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-11">Windows 11</a> ARM at 2K screen resolution. The user adds that the CPU cores frequency has been reduced to effectively have a Power Saving Mode to increase the battery life for usage.</p>
<p>Prior to this, developers have managed to install the new Windows 11 ARM operating system on a few other devices, including Lumia 950, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/windows-11-spotted-running-on-half-a-decade-old-microsoft-lumia-950-xl/">Lumia 950 XL</a>, Mi 8, OnePlus 6T, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6, and other smartphones.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/11/19/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-windows-11-arm/mi-pad-5-win-11-2/'><img width="575" height="871" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Mi-Pad-5-Win-11-2.png?x44794" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Windows 11" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Mi-Pad-5-Win-11-2.png 575w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Mi-Pad-5-Win-11-2-198x300.png 198w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Mi-Pad-5-Win-11-2-277x420.png 277w" sizes="(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px" /></a>

<p>There&#8217;s no way Windows 11 operating system on the Mi Pad 5 gets official support or approval from Xiaomi. But the good thing is that such experiments imply that the development is still ongoing and the developers are making progress for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-on-arm">Windows on ARM</a>.</p>
<p>In related news, Microsoft has been testing x64 emulation for Windows 10 on Arm for about a year now, but the company is now limiting the feature to Windows 11. It now allows x64 apps that haven’t been compiled for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arm">Arm</a>-powered machines to run, allowing devices like the Surface Pro X to access more apps.</p>

The early preview version allows users to test-drive the features that are coming to the official version.</p>
<p>As the preview version has been released by the Redmond-based tech giant, the Windows 11 ARM version has also surfaced online and some developers have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/01/windows-11-spotted-running-on-half-a-decade-old-microsoft-lumia-950-xl/">managed to load</a> this newer Windows operating system on Lumia 950 XL smartphone.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-397481 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11.jpeg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8 Windows 11 OS" width="800" height="1066" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11.jpeg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11-696x927.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Windows-11-315x420.jpeg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>Not just that, some reports have revealed about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/22/xiaomi-mi-8-miui-12-5-update/">Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone</a> getting flashed with the Windows 11 Preview operating system. While Windows is working on the smartphone, it still doesn&#8217;t support touch screen functionality and USB port.</p>
<p>Although Microsoft has given up on its Lumia smartphones, users are still tinkering with the older models. Last year, a group of developers managed to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/19/lumia-950-windows-10-os/">port the full Windows 10 operating system on Lumia 950</a> and 950 XL smartphones.</p>
<p>Developers have also managed to add Continuum support as well as a custom phone dialer app on a Lumia smartphone running <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows">Windows operating system</a>. They even reached the ability to detect the SIM card on the device.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s no way Windows operating system on smartphones is getting official, at least not anytime soon, but it’s interesting to see developers making progress, boosting the development of Windows on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arm">ARM</a> project.</p>
