Sony is a company that’s known for innovating with its products, especially in the audio department. The Japanese electronics manufacturer has an impressive lineup of audio products, including the WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones that were launched recently. Now, Sony has introduced the Float Run, a new variant of earphones designed for those who like to stay active while listening to music.

Unlike traditional earphones, the Float Run is designed to sit outside the ear canal, held in place with ear hooks and a flexible skull-band. This design, referred to as “off-ear” by Sony, aims to reduce discomfort and eliminate the risk of earphones falling out during exercise. As per reports, the earphones were tested on a variety of head shapes and hairstyles. It’s worth noting that this is the company’s most unique earphone design since the launch of the LinkBuds, which sported an innovative design as well.

Because of the earphone’s unique design, active noise cancellation is not an option. However, Sony claims that the Float Run’s large 16mm drivers will deliver “a more natural and wider sound” without compromising on audio quality, which will go perfectly with a workout session.

The earphones weigh merely 33 grams, which is quite light and will ensure comfort while on the move. As per Sony, this is expected to reduce drag and pressure during a session. The earphones come equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, a 10-hour battery that charges via USB type-C, and support for SBC/AAC codecs. They have an IPX4 rating, so users won’t have to worry about sweat ruining their earphones. 

Float Run will be available in black and will be priced at $129.99. However, Sony states that the earphones won’t be available for purchase until February 2023, so you might have to wait to get your hands on these.

After a sudden teaser announcement by Oppo Malaysia last week, the brand has finally launched its latest and most affordable wireless earbuds for 2022, the Oppo Enco Buds 2.

As of the time of reporting, the Oppo Enco Buds 2 have only launched in Malaysia. However, as we reported on last week, the Oppo Enco Buds 2 are expected to arrive to more Asian markets like India, Singapore and Indonesia very soon. And with a official price tag of MYR 129 (29 USD), these wireless earbuds are among the cheapest branded wireless earphones you can get this year. But with such an affordable price tag, did Oppo sacrfice anything important?

Oppo Enco Buds 2 Specifications

Starting off with battery life, the Oppo Enco Buds 2 have much better battery endurance than its predecessor, the earbuds now feature a bigger 40 mAh Li-ion battery cell, whilst the charging case gets upgraded to a 460 mAh cell.

Oppo claims that with the larger battery, the wireless earbuds managed to record a jaw-dropping 28 hours of continuous music playback, with the charging case included. And when you do need to top up the battery, users need not worry, as the Enco Buds 2 is equipped with USB Type-C charging, a rare find for wireless earbuds under 30 USD.

Next are the audio features. The Oppo Enco Buds 2 have an upgraded 10mm large titanium driver. With the new driver, the Enco Buds 2 is expected to deliver more powerful, clear, deep, and rhythmic bass compared to its predecessor. The new earbuds also have Oppo’s new “Enco Live Stereo Sound Effect” in which you can select custom sound profiles, like Bass Boost which has been tuned by Oppo’s professional acoustic audio team.

Moving onto connectivity, the Oppo Enco Buds 2 has been upgraded to the newest Bluetooth 5.2 standard, which promises low latency and high stability. The earbuds also have what Oppo is calling AI Deep Noise Cancellation, for calls through the earbuds microphone, so that the receiver can hear what you are saying clearer.

And lastly, the Oppo Enco Buds 2 features touch controls to control music playback, volume, and your phone’s camera when you need it. 

However, one thing to note about the Oppo Enco Buds 2 is that it lacks active noise cancellation (ANC), but within the less than 30 USD price range, most of the earbuds lack ANC as well.

The Oppo Enco Buds 2 are rated IPX4 water resistant and are available in two colours: Moonlight and Midnight. They will be going on sale in Malaysia for 129 MYR (29 USD) starting from August 26.

After launching in the European market earlier in June 2022, Huawei has finally brought its latest top-of-the-line premium wireless ANC earphones, the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2, to another key global market, Malaysia. 

Co-engineered with Paris-based sound technology company Devialet, the new Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 aims to serve the ultimate acoustic audio experience for its buyers.

Starting with the design, the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 arrives with a sleek and slim case that resembles much of the Apple AirPods Pro, but Huawei has managed to paint the casing with a matte finish to prevent fingerprints and to provide the case with more grip. Coming to the earbuds themselves, both earbuds are covered in a glossy, shiny, and glimmering paint job, which will attract some attention when you are out in public. vivo Wireless Sport Lite neckband earphones were launched in India for an affordable price of Rs. 1,999 ($27) on Wednesday with headlining features that include 18-Hour Battery Life, Fast Charging, “Call Noise Cancellation”, as well as IPX4 sweat and water resistance.

Starting with the build quality, these neckband earphones are made up of Daikoku aluminium-coated bronze coil, which vivo says will help to reproduce high frequencies. The vivo Wireless Sport Lite neckband earphones are packed with a 129mAh battery and use USB Type-C for charging. It is advertised to be charged within one hour. The neckband is claimed by the company to deliver up to 12 hours of talk time, and 300 hours of standby time. It is also said to offer 18 hours of music playback time with AAC codec at 50% volume. Finally, the earphones offer fast charging where a 10-minute charge gives the earphones up to 5 hours of playback time. 

Availability of the new earphones is currently only in India. The new earphones will go on sale via the vivo India e-store and across all partner retail stores starting Wednesday itself. It comes in two subtle colour options, Black and Blue.

Sony is a known electronics brand with products ranging from cameras, TVs, smartphones, audio related gadgets, and more. The company recently released audio products in its home country, Japan, which include the popular WH-1000XM3 over-ear headphones, WF-XB700, and WI-SP510 wireless earphones. However, Sony isn’t just stopping there as it is working on launching even more wireless earphones, with athletes and helmet wearers in mind this time.

Back in 2019, Sony had filed for design patents with the Japanese patent agency JPO for new wireless earphones. This patent was finally published last month and features 9 black and white images, alongside one colored render of the new hearables. Unfortunately, the finer details regarding the product are currently unknown as it is a design patent. However, the company did reveal a short description of it.

Looking at the images, it is clear that the earphones are wireless and are designed for and other physical activities in mind. Notably, the description revealed that the earphones can be used under a helmet. This is achieved by having the earpiece stay inside the helmet while the region with the controls can be positioned outside of it. Since the design follows a hooked shape, it can go over an ear to equally distribute weight and not feel too heavy on any one side.

A microphone sits at the top of the control panel, which should make it easier to pick up calls and help in the user being more audible to the other party. The control “pads” might also have touch controls through which one can lower or raise the volume, but that is just speculation at this point. The bean design is quite unique and we would like to see what features, like noise cancelation, Sony manages to pack in these wireless earphones.

Wireless earbuds became more popular this year. Some phone manufacturers such as Redmi, Vivo and technically, Google, launched their very first wireless earbuds this year while others such as Realme will launch theirs before the end of the year. There are even reports OnePlus is working on its own wireless earbuds too and it may just be the product it plans to announce at CES 2020.

While wireless earbuds are becoming more popular, it doesn’t mean other types of earphones and headphones have become unpopular. Several wireless earphones and headphones, as well as wired types, were also launched this year. In the year 2017, along with the Pixel 2 series smartphones, Google had also launched its Pixel Buds wireless earphones, for a price of $159. Now, it seems that the company is all set to introduce its second-generation Pixel Buds.

As per the report, the Google Pixel Buds 2 are expected to get launched on 15th October at the Made by Google 2019 event. The event has already been confirmed by the company where it is expected to launch the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL flagship smartphones as well as Pixelbook 2, Nest Mini, among others.

However, nothing much is known about the upcoming Pixel Buds 2 wireless earphones. It remains a mystery whether the next-gen wireless earphones from Google will have a cable running between them like the original model or if they will be fully wireless, similar to the Apple AirPods. Our bet is on the fully wireless design, given that most manufacturers are now launching TWS earphones and not the wired ones.

We also expect the earphones to come with support for Google Assistant, similar to the original model, allowing users to play and control music, get directions or make a phone call — all through simple voice commands.

The Pixel Buds, which were launched a couple of years ago, were priced at $159 and offered in three color options — Just Black, Clearly White and Kinda Blue. While details about the upcoming Pixel Buds 2 is not yet known, we expect the them to be priced similarly. To know for sure, we’ll have to wait a couple of weeks for the event to take place.

With the popularity of true wireless earbuds, there are many manufacturers starting to research how to make wireless earbuds attractive. We have got the xFyro xS2 True Wireless Earbuds a few days ago, and it can attract me. Let’s check out the review of xFyro xS2.

Design

Different from the other wireless earbuds, the xFyro xS2 has their own design. In terms of the overall, the xS2 adopts the tetragonal cylinder design, which sets the earbuds on the two sides with magnetsm, and the main body is a charging tetragonal cylinder. The touch feeling is great, as the main part of the xS2 is made of the premium aluminium, which is cool and comfortable. The charging input and the charging output are on both sides of the charging case, which are the silicone material. Covered by a silicone lid with an IN word, the charging input, micro USB port, is placed beside the LED indicator lights. The charging output port is set on the side having the logo of xFyro. The USB-A port is also covered by a lid with an OUT word. And there is a power button set beside the charging output.

Let’s look at the earbuds. The earbuds come with physical button, called Home Key, and there is an indicator on the earbud. I think it is easier for me to use the wireless earbuds because of the button. When you play the music, single tap L or R button means play/pause. Double tap for previous/next track, triple tap for lower/increase volume. They also have an interesting function, when you hold L or R button for, the Google+ or Siri should be woke up.

As the earbuds are magnetically mounted in the charging case, there are charging contacts on the earbuds silicone shell. What’s more, the xS2 has a built-in microphone. Therefore, you can use them to make phone calls with hands-free.

Performance

You should be curious about the sound quality. Personally, I think they sound good. I played a lot of songs with lyrics as well as complex music to check their performance. Although they have a minimum amount of distortion on the highs, the overall performance is good. The xS2 comes with a rich stereo sound and each note is crisp and clear. The bass is not so powerful to frighten my ears, but I’m not a fan of bass. Therefore, I deem that the bass is suitable for me. And of course, they perform well but regular, they don’t have a shinning point.

What I have to say is that the earbuds are easy to fall out. On my way to work, I have to re-wear them several times. If you want to wear them to do sports, you need to think it over.

The xS2 carries support Bluetooth 5.0 and 33ft (10m) Bluetooth range. The charging case is fueled by 850mAh and the xS2 earbuds have a battery capacity of 45mAh. They can use for about 8 hours with single charge which are enough for daily use. If you use with charging case, the playing time can up to 50 hours. It’s amazing!

In conclusion, the xFyro xS2 is a great headphones which is suitable for those who want to get a budget true wireless earbuds. However, if you are a big fan of sports and want to wear them to do sports, please think it over.

In the past couple of years, flagships have started to come without dedicated headphone jacks. What was once considered as an irreplaceable part of a smartphone, now is an expendable feature. Missing headphone jack could only mean two things: you’d have to shift to a USB Type-C adapter/headphones, or get a good pair of Bluetooth earphones. Naturally, with the increase in demand from flagship users, we have seen a recent surge in Bluetooth earphones and many of them have turned out to be quite good.

I recently had the opportunity to review the Meizu POP True Wireless Bluetooth earphones (TW50) and it was quite impressive. Given that I have been using the OnePlus Bullets Wireless for some time, the Meizu POP was a pleasant addition to my affordable (just $69.99 w/ coupon below) wireless earphones collection. In many ways, its superior to the Bullets Wireless, but there are a few things that you have to keep in mind if you are planning to shift to this earphones as your daily driver. Meizu POP TW50 Earphones Design

The Meizu POP TW50 earphones have a non-intrusive design. Unlike other Bluetooth earphones with a neckband, the POP is truly wireless featuring just two earphones that snugly fit in your ears. The fit is firm, so even if you are running or involved in any activity, the chances of the earphones falling out of your ears are very slim. Note that each earphone weighs just 5.8 grams! So you’d hardly notice its presence while running or during any other activity.

The POP comes in just one color option — all white.

There are two major parts of the Meizu POP earphones. First is the pair of earphones which go in your ears. The other half consists of the Magnetic charging case. This is where the company tries to impress, first by including Qi-based Wireless charging support and second, by using magnets to ensure that the earphones neatly tuck themselves in the case in the right position and immediately starts charging.

Talking about the magnetic charging case/box, it also features a premium all-white design with the Meizu logo up front. There are four LED indicators showing you the amount of charge remaining. You can charge the earphones up to four times with this case, and it’s quite evident from the indicators as well. There’s a button at the back (which btw is very easy to miss) which shows you the charge left in the box.

The box is magnetic and there’s a kind of satisfaction you get every time you see it open and close. Inside, the case has two slots for the two earphones. Note that you have to place the earphones in their correct slots in order for them to fit in perfectly. The slots are magnetic as well, so the earphones smoothly slide into their positions and start charging. Overall, the experience is flawless and satisfying.

Coming to the pair of earphones, once again you have to be careful about which earphones goes into which ear. For convenience, both the earphones are marked with ‘L’ and ‘R’ labels. Both of them have a snug fit and are very comfortable for extended use.

At the start of this review, I mentioned that the Meizu POP earphones had a non-intrusive design. I came to this conclusion after taking a close look at its notification light as well. The blue colored light on the earphones lights up only once when you take them out of the case (they turn on automatically) or keep them inside (they turn off instantly). Also, if you keep the earphones disconnected outside the box for some time, they switch off automatically. You have to long press both the earphones individually to turn them on again. Another instance where the blue light comes up is when you are pairing them to a smartphone or smartwatch. In short, the light won’t interfere in your day to day use.

Meizu POP TW50 Earphones Sound Quality

I know people are different when it comes to their music preferences. So, right at the start, I ‘ll say that I’m not a very big fan of bass heavy headphones. I like the perfect mix of highs and lows with a good amount of bass so that I get to enjoy a wide range of music. In this regard, the Meizu POP doesn’t disappoint at all.

The POP comes with a rich stereo sound and each note is crisp and clear. It’s definitely better than the OnePlus Bullets Wireless when it comes to sound quality and when you directly compare the two side by side, the OnePlus earphones does sound a bit hollow.

The bass is good, it’s not very heavy which is something I prefer. This means I get to enjoy the strong mids and treble. The earphone is able to play a good range of sounds with ease and I haven’t really seen them crack even on the highest volume levels. In fact, I was always happy to keep the volume level just above the middle as it was loud enough on most occasions. Further, the earphones have pretty good noise cancellation which means you can enjoy high-quality music even when you are in a noisy surrounding.

Overall, in terms of sound quality, you cannot go wrong with the Meizu POP Wireless earphones. I was very much impressed by its sound quality and despite its tiny form factor, the POP manages to impress you with its rich sound output. For its price, you’d definitely be impressed.

Meizu POP TW50 Earphones Usage

The Meizu POP TW50 earphones are very easy to use. You just have to take out the earphones out of its charging box and both the earphones switch on immediately and are ready to pair. If you have paired the headphones with your smartphone before, they connect to the phone immediately when you take them out. I haven’t had a single issue when it comes to the process of pairing.

So, the moment you take them out of the case, you are good to go. I have used the earphones in a number of scenarios and never have they failed to impress. Be it for running on the road, hitting the gym, or even listening to music right beside a construction site, the POP turned out to be my perfect partner. I’m impressed with its noise cancellation and it has actually helped me have a really good time even in relatively noisy environments.

As mentioned before, the earphones have a really firm fit and only once did one of the units come out loose from my ear. But that was when I was running and I hadn’t really pushed it in firmly. Overall, I can say that the earphones are designed in a way to ensure that it doesn’t fall off your ears easily.

While the earphones sound great and have a firm fit, they aren’t without issues. For example, I did have the occasional lag and jitter when listening to music. Also, note that since it comes with such a compact form factor, you can’t really obstruct its field of view. A simple act like covering your ears with your hands is good enough to break the connection for a few seconds.

That said, in my day to day usage, apart from experiencing patchy streaming a few times, I didn’t really have any significant issues. Most of the time, the playback was smooth and jitter free and that’s good enough for me. It’s worth mentioning that I find the OnePlus Bullets wireless to have better connectivity than the Meizu POP earphones. However, it’s not really a deal breaker and I still find the POP to be superior in the overall experience.

Another thing worth noting, which is not really an issue with this headphones, rather an issue with true wireless earphones design in general, is that I find it tough to talk to people with the headphones on. As mentioned above, thanks to its noise-canceling feature, it’s hard to hear what the other person is speaking with the headphones on. This means you have to remove them when you are speaking to someone for a while. This brings the big question of where to tuck them away during this time. I have had instances where I had to hold the earphones in my hand for some time because I was not comfortable keeping them in my pocket for extended durations. It’s so light and compact that I’m always afraid that I ‘ll lose one of them accidentally. Also, if you are outside without your bag, it doesn’t make sense to carry the charging case around. This means the best place to keep your earphones is going to be your pocket. Personally, I am not comfortable doing that. But it could be just a personal thing.

Another thing that I don’t like about the earphones is its microphone. Simply put, the microphone sucks and it’s not meant to be used to talk on the phone. But you have a tweak. All you have to do is remove the right earphone and place it near your mouth. This way you can talk for hours, but it’s not really a handsfree experience. It’s definitely one of the drawbacks of its design.

Meizu POP TW50 Earphones Touch Controls

One of the highlights of the Meizu POP TW50 earphones is the touch controls. They work pretty well, but there’s a small learning curve. You just have to know four main controls. Single tap pause/play the track. Double tap on the right earphone takes you to the next track and the same action on the left one takes you to the previous track. Triple tap on the earphone would start your google assistant. Finally, long press the right/left earphone to increase/decrease the volume.

These controls are written clearly on the manual. The additional info that you need to know is that the earphones better work with firm presses than taps. Single tap to play and pause a track seemed to work flawlessly on my unit. However, I had a really hard time figuring out how to make it go to the next/previous track. Double tap simply paused/played the track on most occasions. It took me a while to figure out that I had to firmly press the right/left earphone twice to actually make it move one track forward / back. So, you’ll need some practice to get it right all the time. Imagine doing this while running — it’s definitely not as easy as clicking a physical button. But once you get used to the controls, things do get better.

I have to note that the headphone does well to avoid accidental touch recognition. So if you are just adjusting its fit, it does well not to interfere with your music playback.

Meizu POP TW50 Earphones Battery

What is one of the biggest highlights of the earphone is also its biggest drawbacks. The POP comes with a true wireless design, which means there’s not a lot of room to fit in a large battery.

Each earphone carries a battery capacity of 85mAh and the charging case comes with a total capacity of 700mAh. According to official figures, this is good enough for 3 hours of continuous music playback on the earphones in a single charge. With the case included, you can get four more complete charges. However, at a time, you get only up to 3 hours of continuous playback. I have personally managed to get just over 3 hours of music from these earphones, which is pretty much what’s mentioned in the official description.

It seems as if the four indicators on the charging case are like four charge cycles. With each full charge, you lose one indicator. It’s pretty neat.

Since I didn’t find any official figure for the time taken by each earphone to charge inside the unit, I decided to check it out myself. In my personal experience, the earphones charge up to 60% in 30 minutes inside the charging box. They get to nearly 100% in an hour. However, the 700mAh charging box took some time to charge completely. I had to keep it on a fast charging USB brick for nearly 3 hours to get it from 0% to 100% (all four indicators are lit up!). You can even charge it wirelessly, however, I didn’t have a wireless charging base with me at the time of review, so couldn’t test it out in action.

Meizu POP TW50 Earphones: Who should buy it?

After reading this Meizu POP Earphones review, I guess you must have a fair idea about its targeted audience. The earphones are ideal for someone who wants non-intrusive wireless Bluetooth earphones which looks good, works flawlessly, and good for playback up to 3 hours. It’s not at all ideal for people who are hooked on music or movies for extended hours. Remember that there’s nearly an hour’s delay if you want to use your earphones once it goes out of charge. However, I believe for most users out there, 3 hours of continuous playback with 1-hour charging cycle inside the case is pretty decent.

If you are okay with the battery life of the Meizu POP, I would definitely recommend it over the OnePlus Wireless Bullets headphones. I know its cheaper and widely available than the POP, but POP’s design definitely looks futuristic, the sound quality is great, and the overall experience is worth the additional money.

OnePlus announced the OnePlus Bullets Wireless earphones along with its flagship smartphone OnePlus 6. Recently, the company launched the smartphone in the Indian market and today, OnePlus has launched its Bullets Wireless earphones in India.

The OnePlus Bullets Wireless earphones will go on sale in India from June 19 at 12:00 PM through Amazon India and OnePlus’s online store. The earphones are priced at Rs. 3,999, which roughly converts to $59.

The earphones are an upgrade to the OnePlus Bullets V2, which features a 9.2mm drivers and include the company’s Energy Tube, which is composed of a non-metallic mineral and silica gel to reduce frequency distraction and enable noise cancellation. The company says that the earphones have a weather-resistant design that can bear rain showers. But, OnePlus has not yet specified any IP certification for the build.

The OnePlus Bullets Wireless earphones come with magnetic switches that pause the music when the earbuds are clipped together. Users can also resume the music when unsnapping the earbuds. Similarly, when disconnected from the handset after five minutes of inactivity, the earphones will turn off automatically to save the battery life.

Further, it is also possible to call Google Assistant with a long-press on the Play button. Thanks to this Google Assistant support, users are now able to interact with the phone through voice commands without taking it out from the pocket.

DESIGN and FEATURES

Although the headset does not sport any premium materials in the construction, it is well-built and it seems that it last a long time. You can attach one earbud to another using the magnets, which is very convenient in practice.

We have the “activity” button on one of the earbuds. If you press it once, the voice will tell you the number of steps taken. If you press it twice, you will start/complete your workout. Finally, if you press it three times, you will turn on/off the light on the headset.

FITNESS TRACKING and APP

One of the cool features is that the headset is able to track your steps/distance walked/calories burnt independently from your phone. Also, you can start monitoring your workout just with a single click of the button on the headset. I really love this feature since you can hear all the basic info about your exercise routines without the need to look into your phone.

I found the steps counter to be very accurate thanks to the PerformTek Precision biometrics technology.

Carat highlight feature is the patented Speed Dependent Sound Technology (SDS). The tech basically speeds up and slows down the sound effects according to the intensity of your workout. For example, if you are working hard, the Carat will automatically pump up the music and similarly, dial the music down when you are relaxing.

SOUND QUALITY

As for sound quality, it is pretty good. The sound is balanced, the volume output is great and the finally, the sound does not get distorted at the highest volume settings.

TEST NOTES and BATTERY LIFE

I didn’t have any connectivity issues even when my phone was somewhere deep in the pocket. The call quality is pretty good too.

As for the battery life, my FIIL Carat worked for about six hours before I needed to recharge. It takes about an hour and a half to charge it back to 100%.

CONCLUSIONS

Fiil Carat is a pretty cool headset with some fitness tracking capabilities. Our base version of the headset can track your steps, distance walked or calories burned accurately by just pressing one button.

Also, the headset has a decent battery life, it is comfortable to wear and the sound quality is definitely one of the better ones you can find in this price range.

All in all, the Fiil Carat is a great device that does more than just a regular Bluetooth headset and motivates you to stay active.

When it comes to the design, the Mixcder Basso uses metal, rubber and plastic in its construction.

The earphone part is made of metal and it feels high quality. Also, it can rotate in 360 degrees for maximum flexibility.

The on-ear support is made of rubber and it is designed to make sure that the earphones don’t fall off when exercising. Well, they serve the purpose but not all the time and I would love to see a better implementation here as the right earphone fell off several times.

Another thing that I didn’t like is the green cable, which is sticking out. It is far from the deal breaker but it simply doesn’t look appealing.

As far as controller, which feels a bit plasticky, we have volume up/down and play/pause buttons as well as the micro USB port for charging. Also, there is a mic for hands-free calling, which is working quite well indoors but it not that well in windy or noisy environments.

So there you have it, the Mixcder Basso Bluetooth sports earphones. In short, they have a great value for the price but that doesn’t mean they are perfect.

First of all, these were not the most comfortable earphones I’ve used, because they don’t always sit tight in your ears. Also, it happened a few times that right earphone simply fell off the ear because the controller is installed too close to the earphone.

The second flaw is the battery life. I could get around 3 hours of listening time of them. Well, it’s not a deal breaker but if you exercise a lot, be prepared to charge the earphones a lot.

Other than that, I have no complaints about the range or connectivity or any other issues.

Finally, if you are looking for the pair of good sounding budget Bluetooth earphones for sports, the Mixcder Basso can be your option if you don’t mind a few shortcomings.
