Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 14 at the Xiaomi 13 series launch event in December. The latest version of the company’s mobile software is being rolled out to eligible devices. The rollout was limited to China earlier but now the availability of the update is being extended to more markets.

Hence, the EEA variant of Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has started receiving the MIUI 14 update based on Android 13. Let’s go through the details.

According to Xiaomiui, the MIUI 14 update for the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE arrives with build number V14.0.4.0.TKOEUXM. The update is currently only available for ‘Mi Pilot’ testers.

For the unaware, ‘Mi Pilot’ is Xiaomi’s global public beta program. New software builds are initially released for users enrolled in this initiative.

Later, the same build is rolled out as ‘Stable Beta’ for a limited number of the general public. If there are no major issues, the build is finally released for every user as ‘Stable’.

MIUI 14 is the second major software upgrade for the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. Similarly, Android 13 is the device’s second Android update.

As the phone is eligible for 3 Android updates, it should receive one more next year. Also, it should get security updates until 2025.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite made its debut just a few days ago with several improvements compared to the previous generation. Last year, Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 Lite but then it was retired from the market due to the issues faced by Qualcomm with the Snapdragon 780G mobile platform. A few months later, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE went official: NE stands for New Edition and this phone is basically the Mi 11 Lite but with a different chipset, the Snapdragon 778G. It is called 11 Lite 5G NE instead of Mi 11 Lite 5G NE because Xiaomi decided to ditch the Mi branding in the middle of last year. This is a comparison between the specifications of the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE and its successor: the Xiaomi 12 Lite. Here, you will learn the main differences between these two mid-rangers.

Design

As already mentioned above, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is an upgrade of the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, but it can not be considered an upgrade if we talk about the design. Indeed, the older model comes with a thinner and lighter body, and it is one of the thinnest and most lightweight phones on the whole market. That is why it appears very attractive, more than the 12 Lite, even though it has a lower screen to body ratio. Further, it has the IP53 certification making it dust resistant and splash resistant. The Xiaomi 12 Lite has a higher screen to body ratio and, given that these phones feature the same display diagonal, it appears slightly more compact. But it is thicker and heavier than its internal rival. Unfortunately, these phones are not built with premium materials: they are made of polycarbonate for both the frame and the rear cover.

Display

At first glance, it seems like Xiaomi used the same display panel for these two phones. But there is an important difference: the Xiaomi 12 Lite is able to show up to 68 billion colors, while the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE shows one billion colors. Further, the new model has an in-display fingerprint reader, while the fingerprint scanner of the predecessor is side-mounted. Last but not least, refresh rates are different: the 11 Lite 5G NE has just 90 Hz, while the 12 Lite reaches 120 Hz. For the rest, they are pretty much the same: we are talking about AMOLED panels with a diagonal of 6.55 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, Dolby Vision support, the HDR10+ certification, and the HDR10+ certification. The displays are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.

Specs & Software

The hardware department did not change from last year, with one single small exception: the micro SD slot. Xiaomi ditched it on the 12 Lite, while you get a micro SD slot on the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. For the rest, there are no differences. These phones are powered by the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform: a processor with an octa-core architecture built at 6 nm and composed of four Kryo 670 cores running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz, four Kryo 670 cores running at a frequency of 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 642L GPU. The SoC is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, but there are other configurations with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. Given that it is a phone released in 2021, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE runs Android 11 out of the box customized by MIUI 12.5, while the new model runs Android 12 customized by MIUI 13.

Camera

There is an upgrade even when it comes to the camera setups. The new Xiaomi 12 Lite features a 108 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP macro camera. The main camera found on this device is better than the one found on its predecessor with its 64 MP resolution. The new device even comes with a better front camera, with a 32 MP resolution instead of just 20 MP.

Battery

Even though it remains pretty thin and lightweight, the Xiaomi 12 Lite brings a bigger battery, with a capacity of 4300 mAh. Given that the rest of the components are similar, it will surely offer a longer battery life. It even charges quicker thanks to 67W fast charging, while the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE stops at 33W.

Price

The Xiaomi 12 Lite will be officially available in the global market with a starting price tag of $400/€400, while you can currently find the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE for less than €300 or $300 thanks to online street prices. Now you know the differences: the Xiaomi 12 Lite brings a slightly better display, a bigger battery, and a better camera, but it loses that very thin design and the micro SD slot found on its predecessor. Which one would you pick?

We are talking about the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE and the Realme GT Master Edition: these two handsets are the perfect rivals of the midrange segment and they can replace flagships for most of the users. But which one is worth going for, given that the prices are very similar? We decided to highlight the differences between these two models in a comparison between their specifications.

Design

The Realme GT Master Edition comes in a special color variant designed by the known Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa and sports a leather back with a texture that reminds of a suitcase. This Voyager Gray color option is definitely one of the most beautiful and unique designs in the midrange segment, and I would prefer this device for this reason. But you should not underestimate the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE: with a thickness of just 6.8 mm, it is one of the thinnest last-generation phones and even one of the most lightweight ones. Further, it has the IP53 certification making it dust resistant and splash resistant.

Display

On the paper, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE sports the most advanced display. Its AMOLED panel has a diagonal of 6.55 inches and it is able to show up to one billion colors. It sports the HDR10+ certification, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision enhancing the image quality. The Realme GT Master Edition has a higher 120 Hz refresh rate and it is more interesting for gamers, but it does not show one billion colors and it does not support HDR10 and Dolby Vision, that is the reason why Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE should provide a superior image quality. Note that Realme GT Master Edition has an in-display fingerprint reader, while Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE does not. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is the only one with stereo speakers.

Specs & Software

The hardware departments of Realme GT Master Edition and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE include a Snapdragon 778G mobile platform with a max frequency of 2.4 GHz, good for gamers and advanced users, but not a flagship chipset. The Realme GT Master Edition wins the hardware comparison because it offers up to 12 GB of RAM, while Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has a max of 8 GB of RAM. Naturally, this applies only if you choose the most expensive variant of the Realme GT Master Edition. Both the phones run Android 11 with a highly customized user interface on top, and they have fast UFS storage.

Camera

The Realme GT Master Edition and the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE are more or less at the same level when it comes to the rear cameras. The only difference in terms of hardware is the macro camera: you get just 2 MP with the former and a 5 MP telephoto macro lens with the latter. On the other hand, the Realme GT Master Edition has a better front camera with a resolution of 32 MP.

Battery

The Realme GT Master Edition has a slightly bigger battery with a capacity of 4300 mAh and, alongside its smaller display, it should guarantee a slightly longer battery life. Last but not least, it features a faster charging technology with a power of 65W.

Price

In the European market, you can find both Realme GT Master Edition and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE with starting prices of €299/$343, which naturally raise if you choose higher-end configurations. I personally prefer the Realme GT Master Edition due to its faster charging technology and original design in its leather version, but Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE provides a better display, as well as the IP53 certification, powerful stereo speakers, and a sleeker body. Which one would you pick?

But even the slimmest and lightest phone needs protection against drops and Xiaomi seems to be well aware of that. Hence, the partnership with Kittie Yiyi to supply a limited edition case.

The case appears to be made up of hard transparent plastic rather than silicon and has a yellow or black lanyard string at its bottom. This string can be tied to one’s wrist for an iron grip on the phone. The case also has bumpers on its edges to protect against those deadly corner drops that almost always end up in shattered screens.

The device offers a 90Hz punch-hole display and Snapdragon 778G for the asking price. Now, the smartphone is heading to the Indian market on September 29, and ahead of its arrival, the tipster Debayan Roy has tipped its variants and pricing details.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G NE will be called Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G in the Indian market, and it will come in three variants – 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB, and 8GB/256GB. As per the tipster, the base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost ₹21,999(~$299).

However, it is unlikely that the Mi 11 Lite NE 5G launches at this price. Since the global price of EUR369(~$433) is close to ₹31,000, we can expect the NE 5G model to launch under ₹30,000 in India. But it probably won’t be as low as the figure mentioned by the tipster.

Additionally, the tipster reveals that the phone will launch in four colors out of which one of them will be made available later, whereas, the other three colors will be for sale immediately after the launch. Although the tipster doesn’t mention the colors, we can still speculate that the Indian region will get the same four colors as the global model i.e. a Truffle Black, Peach Pink, Bubblegum Blue, and Snowflake White. The names might differ in the region.

Recently, a Xiaomi phone with model number 2017119DC was approved by the TENAA authority. The dimensions and specs of this device match with the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. This indicates that this device may go official this month in China. However, it is unclear whether it is expected to debut as the Xiaomi CC11 series phone.

The TENAA listing revealed that it has a 6.55-inch OLED FHD+ display, a 20-megapixel front, 64-megapixel triple cameras, up to 12 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of storage, 2.4GHz octa-core processor (Snapdragon 778G likely), and a 4,150mAh rated battery. Snoopy’s leak suggests that the 11 Lite 5G will come at least in Black color. On the other side, TENAA listing hints that it may release in colors like black, white, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, red, and purple in the Chinese market.

Among them, Mi 11 Lite is positioned as a thin and light model, which is the only product in the Mi 11 series that is positioned at the mid-end. Xiaomi may soon expand the Mi 11 series with the addition of a thin and lightweight model dubbed Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE alongside the Mi 11T.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has now obtained NBTC certification in Thailand meaning the Chinese company will likely launch the smartphone in the region soon. It is not difficult to see from the naming that Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is a derivative version of Xiaomi 11 Lite and it is expected to retain the lightweight and thin build for which the Mi 11 Lite is known.

In terms of specifications, Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE uses a 90Hz refresh rate OLED full screen, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series processors (maybe Snapdragon 780G, or Snapdragon 778G chip). It is worthy of note that a Xiaomi model equipped with the Snapdragon 778G chip recently received network approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The phone may be a new CC series product of which the corresponding overseas model may be the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE.

IN a related development, a report carried by 91Mobiles claims Xiaomi is planning to launch the upcoming smartphone in India by this month. The report says that the company might start teasing the phone’s launch in the next few days. We can vouch for the credibility of the information and the exact launch date wasn’t given. So, as it stands, the date Xiaomi will release the model is still unknown. We’ll keep you informed when more details emerge.
