Xiaomi is going to announce the new Xiaomi 12S series at a conference on July 4. The source cited that the new series of devices will feature an eco-friendly leather material at the back, which is bound to be comfortable to the touch and majorly resistant to dirt. This is the first time Xiaomi has developed a smartphone with environment-friendly silicone leather, which feels comfortable and textured.

According to the source, the material prolongs the device’s durability by a considerable margin, as it is easy to clean and is resistant to peels and cuts. Additionally, the company customized the texture of the calfskin head layer, making the feel of the device more skin-friendly and offering a better grip. This comes at a time when the smartphone industry is leaning more towards glass-back smartphones that are extremely slippery and tough to keep neat and clean.

Xiaomi is believed to be rolling out three models in the 12S series lineup – the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro, and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The specifications of all three smartphones have been revealed in previous roundups. The top variant is said to be sporting the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, this upgrade has been made citing the delay in the launch of the device and the introduction of the new cutting-edge Snapdragon SoC. The flagship device might also feature a rectangular camera configuration with the Leica branding. The front of the device is likely to be almost bezel-less and will also have a punch-hole camera.

The display is expected to be a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The device’s fingerprint scanner is embedded under the display. The device also features Harman Kardon speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and more.

Lastly, the device is expected to feature a 4800mAh battery pack supporting 67W fast wired charging. Additionally, it is capable of being wirelessly charged at 50W and supports reverse wireless charging at 10W.

Earlier this week, the long-standing collaboration between Huawei and Leica came to an end, and at the same time, the Chinses smartphone giant announced the beginning of its new partnership with the Germany-based camera company.

Now, just days after the official announcement, a leaked image has emerged online revealing that Xiaomi already has a new device with Leica’s camera technology ready to launch at any moment.

The leak comes from a Weibo tipster and reveals a Xiaomi smartphone, allegedly the Xiaomi 12S, with a Leica branding on the camera module. The back panel of the device looks pretty similar to the already launched Xiaomi 12 Pro and the only difference appears to be the Leica branding in place of the “50MP” etched on the camera module.

Leaks state that we could see the first Leica branded Xiaomi flagship launching in June, which also corroborates the earlier leaks stating that the Xiaomi 12S series is scheduled for June. So let’s take a look at the specs and features of the upcoming devices.

Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro Specs (Rumored)

The Xiaomi 12S is said to come with a Full HD+ resolution curved panel featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, centered punch-hole, and will be smaller in size. The device will sport a triple camera setup headlined by a 50-megapixel primary camera. It is expected to come powered by the recently announced Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

The Xiaomi 12S Pro on the other hand is expected to offer a 2K display panel and launch with SoC variants. These will likely be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the Dimensity 9000 SoC.
