Xiaomi is consistently growing its smartphone lineup. With a wide range of users in mind, the company offers models across various price points. In line with this, the Chinese tech giant recently introduced the Redmi Note 12 Turbo and is now counting down the days to the launch of its ultimate flagship, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Recently, CEO and Founder Lei Jun teased a camera grip accessory in a Weibo post that could make the device function more like a point-and-shoot camera. Here are the details….

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Accessory Could Transform the Smartphone into a Real Camera

As the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is set to make waves in the smartphone market with its advanced camera system, a recent teaser by the company suggests an innovative accessory that could redefine smartphone photography. A camera grip unveiled in a Weibo post by Xiaomi CEO and Founder, Lei Jun, may allow users to experience the Xiaomi 13 Ultra as a more ergonomic point-and-shoot camera alternative.

Xiaomi has consistently pushed the envelope in smartphone photography, and the upcoming Xiaomi 13 Ultra aims to continue that legacy. Boasting a remarkable camera setup, the device is expected to feature four 50MP rear cameras, including a standout 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with a variable aperture.

Adding to the excitement, Xiaomi has now hinted at an inventive camera grip accessory. Though there’s a possibility that the Weibo post could be a creative marketing tactic, Lei Jun’s post suggests that the accessory is designed to enhance the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s camera-like appearance and functionality. The grip seems to feature a dedicated shutter button, further streamlining the photography experience.

Xiaomi’s penchant for experimenting with its Ultra flagship line was evident when they introduced the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept. This limited edition phone allowed users to attach interchangeable lenses, including compatibility with Leica M-series lenses. Although the concept phone served as a platform to showcase technological innovation, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is a consumer-focused, mass-produced smartphone.

Xiaomi will be unveiling its latest number series on the global market later this month. The new series, which should include Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Xiaomi 13 lite, will be announced during the MWC Barcelona scheduled for February 26. Rumors suggest the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is also in the works but it won’t be released anytime soon. However, thanks to a leaked image, we get to take a look at its design.

An alleged live image of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has been making rounds on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The image showcases the device with a large circular camera module with Leica branding in the middle. We can see the module houses 4 cameras and an LED flash. The back of the device appears to have a vegan leather finish.

While the design of the device looks very similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, there are a few notable changes. For one, the camera module is protruding less on the 13 Ultra than it did on the 12S Ultra. Also, it seems that the back of the smartphone has been partitioned into two parts, with the upper part raised.

Do note that the image embedded above is not verified and it could very well be a fake. Previous reports have revealed the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will have a 50MP Sony IMX989 1-inch camera sensor, accompanied by an improved periscope camera. In addition, the handset will sport a Samsung E6 Super AMOLED display with curved edges.

Xiaomi had already confirmed that the next-gen Xiaomi Ultra smartphone will be available for purchase in the global market as well. Currently, there’s no information about the device’s launch date. We’ll keep an eye out for any new developments.
