Xiaomi has finally started rolling out the much-awaited HyperOS 3 update for the Xiaomi 14 Civi users, while the regular Xiaomi 14 models received it a month ago. Anyway, the update is finally here for Xiaomi 14 Civi, and it brings loads of exciting stuff, including a bundle of new features and dozens of improvements.

The HyperOS 3 update, based on Android 16, is initially rolling out in India with the firmware version 3.0.4.0.WNJINXM. It’s a massive update package with a download size of about 6.3GB. So, it’s best to download it over a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Since Xiaomi rolls out updates in batches, it may take a few days for all users to receive them. If you’re rocking a Xiaomi 14 Civi, check for available updates manually by navigating to Settings > About phone, then tapping the HyperOS logo. To ensure a smooth upgrade to HyperOS 3, ensure that the device has sufficient space on the internal storage and it’s charged to at least 50%. You can back up important data for added safety.

After upgrading to HyperOS 3.0, you’ll have plenty to explore and play with, including a new HyperIsland, which lets you monitor live activities without opening the app. The updated lock screen now includes AI Cinematic Lock Screen, AI Dynamic Wallpapers, and more new features, allowing greater customization for a more personalized, dynamic lock screen experience.

HyperOS 3 also focuses on AI, with new features such as AI Writing, AI Speech Recognition, AI Search, and AI Translate. The software now features Gemini integration for a more useful software experience. Additionally, Xiaomi has made over 100 improvements to HyperOS 3 to deliver a faster, smoother experience.

The company is also working on HyperOS 3.1, which would still be based on Android 16, and is expected to bring useful upgrades to the software. It has already started recruiting people for the beta program. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi 14 Civi is not on the beta list, but it should receive the update once the stable rollout begins.

It brings an AMOLED screen, a Dimensity 8350 chip, a 50MP triple rear camera setup, and a long-lasting 5600mAh battery. Overall, it’s a good package. However, there are some excellent options that might offer you more value for the money.

4 Best alternatives to Oppo Reno 13

1. Samsung Galaxy S23

The Galaxy S23 5G is a no-brainer pick over the Oppo Reno 13 for many reasons. It’s a flagship smartphone rocking a high-quality 6.1-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Xiaomi has released a new update, HyperOS 1.0.5, for the Xiaomi 14 Civi smartphone. The update, identified by the firmware version 1.0.5.0UNJINXM, is 450MB in size and brings various improvements, including the August 2024 security patch.

The Xiaomi 14 Civi was announced in India back in June. Now, the company has announced that this device is arriving in a Limited Edition variant in the region. Xiaomi has revealed that the Xiaomi 14 Civi Limited Edition with the Panda Design is dropping in India next week.

The special variant was previously teased to launch in India, and the Chinese tech giant finally confirmed its release date earlier today (24th July 2024). Xiaomi 14 Civi with a new Panda design is set to launch on July 29. The company has revealed that the devices will come in new mirror glass and vegan leather version, Pink, Monochrome, and Blue editions.

Storage configurations of this limited edition smartphone are still unclear, but we can expect it to arrive in the top end 12GB + 512GB option. However, apart from its design, it will have features identical to those of the base Xiaomi 14 Civi. So the upcoming limited edition will sport a 6.55-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, and up to 3000 nits of peak brightness.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14 Civi is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. A 4,700mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 67W wired fast charging. For optics, you get a 50-megapixel triple camera setup on the rear and a 32-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls.

Xiaomi is getting ready to launch the Xiaomi 14 CIVI in India very soon. The company already unveiled the upcoming “14 CIVI” model in China under the name “CIVI 4 Pro.” Both phones are expected to have the identical specs. In China, Xiaomi introduced new custom color edition of the CIVI 4 Pro with a dual-colored theme. The new special edition phones might also be available in India.

Xiaomi India recently posted a teaser video on Twitter. If you watch the video carefully, you’ll see it features a theme similar to the custom colors used in the special editions of Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro. You can check out the Xiaomi 14 CIVI’s teaser video through the provided link.

3. Vivo X80

Vivo X80 looks strong on the spec sheet and has a similar pricing as that of the Xiaomi 14 Civi. The smartphone has a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate support and 1500 nits of peak brightness (half of the peak brightness on Xiaomi 14 Civi).

The Vivo phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip, whereas the Xiaomi 14 Civi has a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Both are octa-core chips fabricated on a TSMC’s 4 nm process node and look similar on benchmarks.

OnePlus 12R is another smartphone that is a good alternative to the Xiaomi 14 Civi.

Realme has just launched the GT 6 smartphone for the global market. This sub-flagship device features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor and boasts the world’s brightest display at 6000 nits. However, the competition is not idle.

Xiaomi’s recent offering the Xiaomi 14 Civi is similarly priced to Realme’s GT 6, runs on the same Snapdragon processor, and the two devices are so alike in other aspects that it can be challenging to decide between them. Naturally, we decided to write a comparison between these two smartphones. Let’s begin.

Display

The Realme GT 6 features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Xiaomi 14 Civi opts for a slightly smaller 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with the same 120Hz refresh rate. However, Realme has the edge in terms of display technology.

The GT 6’s panel includes flagship-grade 8T LTPO technology, supporting a variable refresh rate from 0.5 to 120Hz, 2160Hz PWM dimming, Greenfield AI protection, and several other features designed to reduce eye fatigue. 

Additionally, the GT 6’s screen can reach a peak brightness of 6000 nits, surpassing even flagship models like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Note that its just the peak it can achieve. For normal contents, the brightness maxes out at 1000 nits.

Camera

The camera systems on both phones are geared towards everyday use but with some key differences. The Realme GT 6 features a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a secondary 50MP telephoto lens.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 14 Civi’s pricing starts at Rs 42,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, which is slightly higher than the base model of the Realme GT 6. The 12GB RAM with 512GB storage variant of the Xiaomi 14 Civi is priced at Rs 47,999, which is even higher than the highest configuration of the Realme GT 6 (16GB RAM and 512GB storage).

Both phones are available at lower prices through bank discounts and other promotions, but overall, the Realme GT 6 appears to offer better pricing across its range compared to the Xiaomi 14 Civi.

It is hard to definitively state which smartphone has the better camera setup. Both offer an edge in some situations, at least on paper. Motorola is offering a 50-megapixel main sensor (supports Optical Image Stabilization) paired with a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto shooter (3x Optical Zoom), and a 50-megapixel ultra wide angle lens on the rear. The front houses a 50-megapixel selfie camera.

On the Xiaomi 14 Civi, you get three cameras again but the primary and telephoto both are 50-megapixel sensors. The telephoto lens only offers 2x optical zoom and the third camera is a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. Additionally, based on leaks and teasers, Realme, Redmi, Oppo, and Motorola may also unveil new smartphones.

One of the aforementioned devices will be a foldable, while the remaining will be mid-rangers and budget models. Let’s check out these products one by one.

Upcoming Smartphones in June 2024

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is scheduled to launch in India on June 6. It is the company’s first foldable smartphone in the country.

Since the handset is already official in China, we know everything about it. The only thing that’s unknown at this point is its Indian pricing.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro comes with an 8.03-inch main display, a 6.53-inch cover screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a 50MP (wide) + 50MP (ultrawide), macro) + 64MP (3x periscope telephoto) triple camera system, a 5,700mAh battery, and 100W wired as well as 50W wireless charging support.

Xiaomi 14 Civi

The Xiaomi 14 Civi is set to launch in India on June 12. The product is a rebranded Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro.

Thus, everything about this phone is already out, except for the price. It is expected to cost around ₹50,000.

The Xiaomi 14 Civi will arrive with a 6.55-inch 1.5K 120Hz OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, a 50MP (wide) + 12MP (ultrawide) + 50MP (2x telephoto) triple camera setup, 32MP (wide) + 32MP (ultrawide) dual selfie cameras, a 4,700mAh battery, 67W wired charging support.

Honor 200 Series

The Honor 200 series global launch is scheduled for June 12. The event will take place in Paris, France.

The lineup recently went official in China. It consists of two models, namely Honor 200 and Honor 200 Pro.

Both handsets have a 6.7-inch 120Hz curved OLED display, a 50MP (wide) + 12MP (ultrawide) + 50MP (2.5x telephoto) triple camera system, a 50MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 100W wired charging support.

However, the pro variant houses a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC compared to a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip inside the vanilla model.

Realme GT 6

The Realme GT 6 is officially teased to launch soon. The product is expected to go official in June.

The device is said to be a rebranded Realme GT Neo 6. Hence, it will be a flagship killer (mid-ranger with a powerful chipset).

The smartphone will come with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC, a 6.78-inch 1.5K 120Hz LTPO OLED display, a 50MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide) dual rear cameras, a 32MP selfie camera, a 5,500mAh battery, and120W wired charging support.

Oppo F27 Pro

The Oppo F27 Pro is anticipated to launch in India in June. It is rumored to be a rebranded Oppo A3 Pro.

Thus, it will be IP69-rated for dust and water resistance. It will have a circular camera module and a leather back.

The phone will come with a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz curved display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip, a 64MP rear camera, an 8MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 67W wired charging support.

Motorola Moto G85 5G

Motorola may unveil the Moto G85 in June. As per leaks, its design will be similar to the Edge 50 series.

It will likely be the first smartphone with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 3 chip. Further, it will have two rear cameras headed by a 50MP primary shooter.

The handset is expected to cost around €300 in Europe.

Redmi 13 Series

The Redmi 13 series might break cover in June. The lineup is expected to include a 4G and a 5G model.

The Redmi 13 4G version is anticipated to arrive with a 6.79-inch 90Hz display, a MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra SoC, and a 108MP rear camera. It will have a glass back design and support 33W wired charging.

The Redmi 13 5G will be almost identical to its 4G counterpart, except for the chip. It is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 mobile platform.

While the company hasn’t teased its specifications just yet, rumors suggest that the 14 Civi will be a rebranded version of the recently launched Civi 4 Pro in China. It will be a more affordable option within the existing Xiaomi 14 lineup, competing with the likes of the OnePlus 12R and iQOO 12.

Based on the Civi 4 Pro, the 14 Civi could feature a 6.55-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The core of the phone might be the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage for fast performance and data transfer.

Camera specifications are also expected to be carried over, with a triple-camera system on the back: a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. Selfies are likely handled by a 32MP front-facing camera.

The phone might pack a 4700mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging, keeping you powered through the day. The operating system is speculated to be Android 14 with Xiaomi’s custom HyperOS on top.

While Indian pricing is yet to be revealed, the Civi 4 Pro in China starts at CNY 2,999 (approximately Rs 35,100) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. We can expect the 14 Civi to fall within a similar price range in India.

Apple‘s recent iPad Pro ad featuring close-up shots of creative tools being crushed drew criticism for its heavy-handed metaphor. Samsung didn’t miss the opportunity to capitalize on the controversy with a mocking ad of its own. 

Now, Xiaomi is jumping into the fray, but for a different motive. The company made a similar ad to tease an upcoming phone launch in India.

On Tuesday, Xiaomi released a video on X (formerly Twitter) that closely resembles Apple’s ad in its setup. However, instead of objects being crushed, the crushing surface grinds to a halt midway and the video concludes with the text “Cinematic Vision,” with the “Ci” and “Vi” highlighted in red. 

Those letters form the word “Civi” which is Xiaomi’s youth-oriented smartphone line. Xiaomi’s Civi phones have so far been exclusive to China, with the latest model being the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro.

Though not officially confirmed, rumors suggest the Xiaomi 14 Civi will be the first Civi phone from the brand in India and it’s allegedly a rebrand of the Civi 4 Pro. If true, we can expect the phone to feature a  6.55-inch 1.5K (2750 x 1236 pixels) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. 

Powering the device will be Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip with support for LPDRR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. As for the cameras, the rear will have a 50MP main, a 50MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide lens while there will be a 32MP sensor on the front for selfies. 

The device could come with a 4700mAh battery with support for 67W charging and will run on Android 14-based HyperOS out of the box.

Xiaomi recently debuted the Civi 4 Pro smartphone in China with an eye-catching design and a bunch of impressive specifications including a dual front camera system and the newly launched Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is a powerhouse made for modern flagship killers.

While the company has not revealed any official plans to debut this device in the global market, rumors suggest that the brand will be debuting it soon in India, under the Xiaomi 14 Civi name. Now, the device has emerged on the TUV certification website, hinting at its imminent launch.

The phone is identified by the model numbers “24053PY09C” and “24053PY09I.” It is worth mentioning that these model numbers also belong to the Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro, which pretty much guarantees that the device is coming to the Indian market, however, the absence of a model number with the “G” suffix is a letdown since it pretty much means that there is no global model of this device. While the certification does not confirm any details other than the fact that the device has a certified flicker-free and low blue light display, we expect the spec sheet to be pretty much similar to the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro.

That’s why the CIVI 4 Pro, which is called Pro in China, will now come to India. Unfortunately, we do not know the sales price in India.

It is expected to be cheaper compared to the Xiaomi 14. Meanwhile, it has been fully confirmed that the name Xiaomi 14 Lite mentioned by DCS (Digital Chat Station) is fake. A model under the name Xiaomi 14 Lite will not be introduced. In addition, the Xiaomi 14 Civi will remain exclusive to the Indian market. It will not be introduced in the global market.
