Xiaomi 14 was one of the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that enables on-device generative AI, thanks to Qualcomm’s first AI Engine that can run multimodal generative AI models. It enables smartphone manufacturers to build and implement a range of helpful AI features that can operate without relying on a cloud server. We have already seen a couple of similar implementations on the Galaxy S24 series as an outcome of the manufacturer’s partnership with Google.

HyperOS to get some new AI features

Now the news is that Xiaomi has started internal testing of its “AI Treasure Chest” feature for the Xiaomi 14 series.

The Xiaomi Al Treasure Chest is basically a collection of ‘hundreds of’ AI features designed to uplift the user experience of their latest Xiaomi 14 series devices. A notable feature of them is called “AI Surprise Wallpaper”. Xiaomi notes that the goal is to provide users with a comprehensive, intelligent, convenient, and efficient solution by integrating multiple Al technologies to help users solve various problems and application scenarios.

The internal testing period is from April 18, 2024, to August 2, 2024. Notably, 78 people were registered, when the company shared the information and there were 40,000 places left for the internal testing.

A person familiar with the development of the feature informed me that one of the top 100 “AI Treasure Chest” features will be released soon, which is likely the previously mentioned AI-powered surprise wallpaper feature, As mentioned before, the development is expected to offer a range of productivity tools and creative features to the Xiaomi 14 series.

Users of the Xiaomi 14 series participating in the internal testing are encouraged to share their feedback about the features through the company’s official feedback channel.

The Xiaomi 14 (review) and Xiaomi 14 Pro (review) were both announced in White, Black, and Green color options. To match the color variants of the Xiaomi SUV 7, both flagship smartphones now come in Gulf Blue and Olive Green shades. It’s worth noting that the Olive Green hue has a slightly different shade from the standard Green color option that was announced at the launch. The Xiaomi 14 duo features a Black colored high metal middle frame and a glass back panel.

The limited edition color variants on the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro are only available with the top-end 16GB + 1TB RAM and storage configuration. These carry the same price tag as their standard edition i.e. CNY 4,999 and CNY 5,999 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Watch S3 limited edition is only offered in the eSIM version. The Gulf Blue color option has a Cyan-colored bezel and a Black strap with a Cyan strip running through the middle. Meanwhile, the Olive Green variant has a strap of the same color and a Black bezel. The Xiaomi Watch S3 limited edition variant is costlier by CNY 100 compared to the standard eSIM version. It is priced at CNY 1,099.

Xiaomi has been trying to break into the premium smartphone segment with its flagship number series. The recent Xiaomi flagships, the Xiaomi 13 and 12 series, offer some of the best camera technology and other hardware on the market, and they’re priced competitively. But despite this, Xiaomi still sells more budget and mid-range phones.

It’s clear that Xiaomi could use some consumer trust when it comes to premium phones. The upcoming Xiaomi 14 series, launching on October 26, is the company’s latest attempt to impress flagship smartphone buyers. Keep reading this post to learn more about the new Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, and to tell us if you’d choose them over the iPhone 15 or Galaxy S23.

Xiaomi 14 design and display

Xiaomi took a more minimalist design approach with the Xiaomi 13 series, especially the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. The company used flat iPhone-like edges and a flat display on the front of the vanilla model. The camera module was redesigned to be square, housing three camera sensors with chic Leica branding. The Pro model, however, featured a curved display and slightly curved sides.

Leaks and rumors suggest that the upcoming Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro will keep the minimalist design of their predecessors, but the camera arrangement may be different. Gizmochina recently managed to get a hold of protective cases for the two phones, which revealed four large cutouts, likely for the camera sensors. However, one of the cutouts may be for the Leica logo and LED flash.

Xiaomi 14 might feature a 6.44-inch C8 OLED 12-bit display with 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,800 nits peak brightness, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ support. Xiaomi 14 Pro may bring even better display specifications, boasting a 6.7-inch Micro Quad Curved display with a dynamic 1-120Hz LTPO refresh rate, a 2K resolution, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, and remarkably slim 1mm ultra-narrow bezels.

With a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, this display is touted to be the brightest on any smartphone yet, surpassing the OnePlus Open with 2,800 nits brightness. The panel also offers HDR 10+, Dolby Vision, and Pro Colour Tuning. There is also a 2K+Hz PWM dimming to reduce eye strain.

Cameras, processor, battery, and more

The Xiaomi 14 duo is expected to come with top-notch hardware. Both phones will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, LPDDR5x RAM, and UFS 4 storage. They may also feature a large VC liquid cooling system for heat dissipation.

The Xiaomi 14 is rumored to have a 4,600mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is expected to have a 4,860mAh battery with support for 120W charging. The two phones may support 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging as well.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

Xiaomi has made significant progress in the camera department, especially after its partnership with Leica. The upcoming Xiaomi 14 series is expected to benefit from this progress, with the Xiaomi 14 Pro rumored to feature a triple-lens rear camera system with three 50-megapixel sensors. The main camera is rumored to feature a massive 1-inch Sony IMX9xx series sensor, and the handset may also get the variable aperture feature from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 14 may also get a similar 50MP triple camera setup on the rear. Specifically, the handset may bring a 50MP OV50H main lens paired with a 50MP ultra-wide and a 50MP telephoto unit.

Meet the new HyperOS

The Xiaomi 14 series will also introduce an entirely new operating system. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro will be the first devices to feature the new HyperOS on the software front. The company claims to have been working on this software for the past 13 years, dating back to the introduction of MIUI. This new OS is expected to bring significant changes to the user interface, as evidenced by recently leaked screenshots, and may provide users with improved customization options for their lockscreen.

Expected Pricing

The pricing of the upcoming Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro is yet to be known. However, you can expect them to be priced similarly to the Xiaomi 13 series. For reference, the Xiaomi 13 starts in India at $550, while the Xiaomi 13 Pro is priced at $895.

However, this time around, the company might launch the Xiaomi 14 series earlier, with reports suggesting the flagships may arrive in early November. While there is no official confirmation, the MIUI 15 codebase has now offered evidence backing the November launch timeline for the upcoming phones.

Xiaomi 13

According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi is testing MIUI 15 based on Android 14. The code indicates that Xiaomi will release the Xiaomi 14 series models in China in the first week of November. The publication also adds that the latest internal version numbers are MIUI-V15.0.0.1.UNCEUXM and MIUI-V15.0.0.1.UNBEUXM. Based on the build number, it appears that the development of the Xiaomi 14 series is nearing completion.

Last week, tipster Digital Chat Station revealed a similar timeline, suggesting that Xiaomi aims to launch the Xiaomi 14 series before the Double Eleven sales event— a shopping event in China, also known as Singles’ Day. This event, which occurs on November 11 each year, can be considered the Chinese equivalent of Black Friday, if not even bigger.

As usual, Xiaomi has not made an official announcement yet. If the launch timelines are accurate, we can expect the company to commence teasing the new flagship next month. For those unaware, the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series will likely comprise two models— Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. There will also be an Ultra model, but its release is expected sometime in Q1 2024. Anyways, both devices are reported to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which itself is set to launch in October.

Apple is officially launching the iPhone 15 series on September 12. The new phones are expected to come with several upgrades, including the use of a titanium alloy frame, instead of a stainless steel frame for the first time. Xiaomi is rumored to be the first Android manufacturer to follow suit, with its upcoming Xiaomi 14 series smartphones also expected to have a titanium alloy frame.

Xiaomi 13

In a recent post, tipster DigitalChatStation revealed that many flagship phones will be using titanium alloy in their construction by the end of this year. Xiaomi is one of the brands that is said to be using titanium alloy, specifically for the frame of the Xiaomi 14 series.

This news coincides with a post on Weibo by IceUniverse from early last month, where he said that the Xiaomi 14 Pro will be the first Android smartphone to feature a titanium alloy frame.

For those unaware, titanium alloy is a strong and lightweight material that is often used in aerospace and defense applications. It is also resistant to corrosion and wear. So, it’s expected to be a welcome addition to smartphones, as it will make them more durable and long-lasting.

Anyway, the tipster revealed a few days ago that the Xiaomi 14 series is expected to be released before the 11.11 shopping festival in China, which takes place on November 11th. This is earlier than the usual release schedule for Xiaomi’s number series, which is typically around a year after the previous generation.

The blogger attributed the early release to the strong sales of the Xiaomi 13 series. The Xiaomi 13 series was released in December 2022, but it has reportedly their sales target in just 9 months.
