Xiaomi has released the September 2025 security update for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphones in India. The new update focuses on improving system security and stability and is likely the last one before the HyperOS 3 rollout.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra

Xiaomi confirmed the India debut of its flagship Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone and Professional Imaging Kit Legend Edition on March 11, following their recent global rollout. Ahead of the launch, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Photography Kit Legend Edition has been spotted on Xiaomi India’s along with its price.

As per a screengrab shared by Tipster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Photography Kit Legend Edition will cost Rs 13,900 in India. As we already know, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Photography Kit includes a metal photography grip with a hand strap, two detachable shutter buttons, a 67mm filter adapter ring, and a protective case.

Key features include a 2000mAh battery capable of charging the phone, IP54 dust/water resistance, and a customizable track wheel for adjusting exposure, ISO, shutter speed, and white balance. A dedicated video button allows quick access to camera settings, while a 67mm filter ring supports professional-grade lens attachments. The kit also enables 0.6-second photo processing and adds a Leica watermark to images.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra itself has yet to receive Indian pricing. In Europe, the smartphone starts at €1,500 for the 16GB + 512GB model. But while the phone itself comes with cutting-edge specs, fixing it out of warranty won’t be cheap. Xiaomi has now published its official repair parts pricing, offering a breakdown of what users can expect to pay if their device ever needs a fix.

Breaking Down the Costs

If you’re unlucky enough to crack the 6.73-inch LTPO OLED display, replacing it will set you back 1,350 yuan (~$185), a price that aligns with other flagship-tier screens on the market. Meanwhile, battery replacements remain relatively affordable at 179 yuan (~$25), making it a cost-effective swap for users looking to extend their device’s longevity.

However, the real eye-watering numbers come from motherboard replacements. Depending on the variant, pricing ranges from 2,940 yuan (~$410) for the 12GB+256GB model to a staggering 3,540 yuan (~$495) for the 16GB+1TB Dual-Satellite version. Given that the motherboard houses core components, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, storage, and RAM, it’s unsurprising.

For photography enthusiasts, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s Leica-branded quad-camera setup is a major selling point. However, repairing these high-end sensors can be pricey. Replacing the wide-angle rear camera costs 930 yuan (~$130), while the ultra-wide module comes in at 530 yuan (~$75). The telephoto sensor is slightly more forgiving at 210 yuan (~$30), and the front-facing camera is a bargain at just 60 yuan (~$8).

If you need to replace smaller components, the pricing is more reasonable. The battery cover costs 270 yuan (~$38), the speaker comes in at 60 yuan (~$8), and the sub-board (which houses charging ports and connectivity components) is just 100 yuan (~$14).

With repairability becoming a key talking point in the industry, Xiaomi’s pricing structure is a mix of premium-tier costs and accessible fixes. If you’re picking up a Xiaomi 15 Ultra, investing in a good case might just be your best move.

Xiaomi’s latest flagship, the 15 Ultra, is now available on the global market. Priced at €1,500, it packs some seriously impressive hardware—a massive 200MP periscope telephoto lens and a 1-inch main sensor. 

These specs put it ahead of Apple’s flagship in terms of hardware. But even with all that firepower, the 15 Ultra hasn’t cracked DXOMark’s top 10 camera rankings.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s DXOMark score

The 15 Ultra scored 153 points in DXOMark’s camera tests, placing it 13th globally. That’s Xiaomi’s best showing yet—last year’s 14 Ultra sits at 19th place with 149 points.

But it’s still lagging behind its biggest rivals, both in China and the West. Huawei’s Pura 70 Ultra currently leads the DXOMark rankings, followed by the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Honor Magic 6 Pro.

To be clear, this doesn’t mean the 15 Ultra has a bad camera—far from it. Even Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra ranks lower at 24th place. DXOMark praised the 15 Ultra for its high texture detail, low noise, accurate exposure, wide dynamic range, and strong color rendering.

So why did it fall short?

According to DXOMark, the phone struggles with occasional warm color casts in both photos and videos, contrast inconsistencies, and noticeable artifacts that impact image quality. There are also issues with texture loss in certain conditions and autofocus stepping problems, which can make focusing feel less smooth. 

Another major drawback is its narrow depth of field, which results in blurred background faces in group shots. Note that this a limitation stemming from its primary camera. 

For a phone that aims to be the best of the best, these shortcomings might be disappointing. But numbers aside, the 15 Ultra still packs some of the most impressive mobile camera hardware available right now.

Look back at Xiaomi 14 Ultra released last year: it’s not much fun, and technically, it’s not that different from the 13 Ultra. But the latest Xiaomi 15 Ultra is truly upgraded. The camera system has been updated dramatically, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite in this phone is further powerful than its predecessor. Every aspect from the look to internal upgrades makes me genuinely excited. Before it officially goes on sale, let’s get to know this beast, starting with the unboxing and hands-on experience.

Unboxing

The front side of the box is no different than before. But on the back, there is a brand-new Ultra logo, in the same font as the SU7 Ultra supercar.

When you open the box, the accessories inside are still the same: card pin, manual, and a transparent-PC case. In the botton, there is the USB A to C cable and the 90W charger. That’s all the accessories.

Design

Without a doubt, for the design alone, especially the camera island, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra deserves a thumbs-down. The erratic camera layout looks like something my second-grade nephew would draw.

I’m sure someone will tell me in the comments section: This arrangement is inevitable, to cram those large sensors in it. In architectural speak, it’s called: “Form follows function”. I totally understand all these points, but it is undeniable that it is not following aesthetic rules at all. When we spend close to a thousand dollars on a phone like this, it’s reasonable to expect more, at least on the look.

I won’t feel any sympathy for Xiaomi’s designers who confirmed the sensors’ location at that moment, just as my friend won’t sympathize with the fact that I can spend so much money to put up with such a disorganization.

Strangely though, after spending just a few hours with it, I found it growing on me. I guess that’s the power of “habit”. It could also be the result of the designers realizing this: they seem to be working harder to show ‘the power of design’ in the details of the back except for the camera island. So we can see similar elegant mirrorless-camera-like colors and material splits here, moreover, with a well-designed ‘Ultra’ logo to call back with their latest super EV – SU7 Ultra sold start from $72,700.

So aside from the camera layout, I kind of like other aspects of it. Like the standard version, the 15 Ultra frame extends to the back panel as well. It’s still very comfortable to not feel the seams on your fingers. Though I’ve always been critical of vegan leather materials, I must admit I’m genuinely fond of the two vegan leather editions this time around. They look like some old cameras, old school, but premium, and I’ll probably pick one of them for our review.

The white and black versions each have their own features as well. The white has curved stripes (Granite-like texture) on the back cover, while the black has a red ring around the island. All the colors look great, which is rare in the history of Xiaomi phones.

The weight has also been optimized and balanced by Xiaomi, so the top part is not overly heavy. While not as ergonomic as standard or Pro models, it’s surprisingly comfortable for an Ultra-class device.

Camera specs

But what camera specs can justify this visual chaos? Well, a One-inch main camera sensor. And, the telephoto camera sensor is a 200 MP S5KHP9 from Samsung. And it’s still the 70mm lens. The lenses are also coated with all sorts of new technology that reduces all sorts of glares. Each camera is capable of recording 8K video. This really makes it the most powerful camera system available.

But there are three downgrades you need to be aware of here: One, the variable aperture of the main camera has been removed. Two, the ultra-wide-angle camera sensor has gotten weaker. Third, the 100mm telephoto doesn’t support macro photography. How do these compromises affect real-world performance? Stay tuned for our full review, and I promise you, you won’t need to wait long.

Others

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra rightfully uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, with a couple of chips in there for signal boosting and satellite communications. The display is the same as the 15 Pro, a 2K 120Hz quad-curved screen that’s nothing special. The battery is 6,000mAh, which isn’t particularly large, but it’s a significant increase over the previous gen. It’s the charging that hasn’t changed at all, so those hoping for faster charging may be disappointed.

Photography kit

The new photography kit has a major update this time as well. Two color options, a metal thumb grip, a replaceable shutter button, a bigger built-in battery, and IP54 waterproofing are all very appealing for photography enthusiasts. Price

Since the hardware has been upgraded, surely the price will be as well, right? But surprisingly, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra starts at about $892 in China, which is the same as the 14 Ultra. Still pricey, but now packed with more value.

Design and specification changes:

Alongside it, the standard Xiaomi 15 is also making its international debut. While these devices share much of their DNA with the Chinese variants, there are a few notable differences. 

Xiaomi 15 Ultra: Specs and Features

The biggest draw of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is, unsurprisingly, its camera system. It packs a quad-camera setup featuring a 200MP periscope lens (100mm, f/2.6), a 50MP telephoto lens (70mm, f/1.8), a 50MP 1-inch type main sensor, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera (21mm, f/2.0).

Xiaomi once again teams up with Leica for professional tuning, and the device supports Ultra Dolby Vision video recording at 4K 60fps and 10-bit Log video recording across all focal lengths. It also features a four-microphone array for enhanced audio capture.

For photography enthusiasts, Xiaomi is offering a Photography Kit Legend Edition, which is a grip-on case with an accented red camera ring and frame, a thumb grip, a shutter button, a multifunctional 67mm filter adapter ring, and an integrated 2,000mAh battery.

It is also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite processor and comes with a 5,240mAh battery (smaller than the 5,400mAh battery in the Chinese model) with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

For photography, the Xiaomi 15 features a 50MP LightHunter 900 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP 3.2x telephoto camera. The front-facing camera is a 32MP OmniVision OV32B40 sensor.

Like its Ultra sibling, the Xiaomi 15 runs HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15, and comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 15 is available globally in Black, White, and Mint color options and starts at €1,000 for the 12/256GB variant. The 12/512GB model costs €1,100. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra starts at €1,500 for the 16GB/512GB model. Both devices will go on sale globally on March 4.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the latest flagship from Xiaomi, has already undergone its first teardown, courtesy of YouTuber WekiHome. Just hours after its official launch in China, the device was disassembled to reveal the internal changes and upgrades Xiaomi has made compared to its predecessor.

The teardown highlights the significant space occupied by the new 200MP telephoto camera and other key modifications to the device’s design and components, such as the battery.

The 200MP telephoto is huge

One of the most notable changes in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is the inclusion of a massive 200MP telephoto camera, which includes the ISOCELL HP9 sensor. This periscope module takes up a significant volume inside the device, necessitating the PCB to span almost half the phone.

Despite this camera upgrade, Xiaomi has managed to maintain an overall sleek design. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra measures 9.4mm in thickness, only 0.2mm higher than that of its predecessor. Although the device remains challenging to repair due to its complex assembly, which includes numerous screws, plastic retaining parts, and, of course, adhesive.

Xiaomi has also removed the variable aperture found on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which allowed the camera to switch between f/1.63 and f/4.0. In its place, Xiaomi has introduced a new glass filter designed to better diffuse reflections and improve image quality.

The primary camera sensor, Sony’s LYT-900, has also seen some tweaks. The teardown reveals that Xiaomi has made several internal adjustments to optimize the performance of this sensor.

WekiHome compared the internal structure of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and its predecessor, which provides valuable insights into the evolution of Xiaomi’s ultra flagship lineup. While the new 200MP telephoto camera and larger motherboard are standout features, the teardown also shed some light on the energy density of the new Si/C battery and compared it with the one on the predecessor.

Xiaomi and Samsung are back with their latest premium flagships, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Both phones promise top-tier specs, advanced cameras, and the latest processors. But how do they stack up against each other? Let’s break it down.

Design and Build

Neither Xiaomi nor Samsung is reinventing the wheel this year. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra sticks to a curved front and metal frame, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra continues with its now familiar industrial design. 

The Galaxy S25 Ultra sports a titanium frame which makes it both lighter and more durable than aluminum. It also features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back and Corning Gorilla Armor 2 on the front. And at 218g, it’s slightly lighter than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Xiaomi is using an aerospace-grade glass fiber or eco-leather on the back of the 15 Ultra. Its aluminum frame might not be as tough as titanium, but it keeps the weight in check at 226g–229g. It’s a bit thicker at 9.4mm, likely due to its 6000mAh battery.

Both devices are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, so they can handle the occasional dunk without issue.

Display

In terms of display, both offer LTPO AMOLED panels with QHD+ resolution and adaptive 120Hz refresh rates. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra edges ahead in terms of brightness with a 3,200-nit peak compared to S25 Ultra’s 2,600 nits. That said, let’s not get too caught up in the numbers—both should be plenty bright for outdoor use.

One standout feature of the S25 Ultra is, of course, the S Pen—whether you actually use it or not. Samsung did remove its Bluetooth functionality this year, which is a bit of a downgrade, but it’s still handy for quick notes or doodling when boredom strikes. Plus, the S25 Ultra’s display gets an anti-reflective coating, making it even easier on the eyes.

Performance
