Xiaomi is on track to launch its first electric car in 2024. The car, which is codenamed MS11, has recently passed Bluetooth Technology Alliance SIG certification, revealing more information about its configuration.

The car made it to the certification body with several different models of Xiaomi Car with IC4034-BD, IC4004-BD, IC4024-BD, IC4054-BD, IC4005-BD, and IC4015-BD.

The listing confirms the presence of Bluetooth 5.2 and USB Media functionalities. And interestingly, the car will also support Apple CarPlay, which will allow users to connect their iPhones to the car’s infotainment screen. It provides an interface that allows you to control many applications of your smartphone directly on the screen of your car rather than having to hold it in your hand.

For example, when making a phone call, you can use the car’s built-in speakers and microphone to handle the sound. You will also be able to use the Siri voice assistant when your phone is connected via CarPlay, allowing you to use the system hands-free.

The certifications also show the car will be powered by Qualcomm’s automotive chipset, the Snapdragon 8295. And recently, it was spotted in China’s national patent database that a “Xiaomi Car” patent technology was approved by the country’s regulatory body on April 11, 2023. The patent technology’s name was phrased in quite a direct manner, as the patent tech approved is called “Car (Practical Use)”, and filed by the Xiaomi Car Limited Company, which is a subsidiary of the Xiaomi Group based in Beijing.

The “Xiaomi Car” patent has some very fascinating and exciting details, as shared by ITHome, a tech news organisation in the country. Most notably, the Xiaomi Car will apparently have a transparent display embedded under the glass front windshield, which in simpler terms means you’ll have a transparent TV as your windshield.

This new transparent screen windshield patent technology sounds futuristic, and in the patent description, the tech is said to facilitate drivers to view vehicle information easier and improve driving safety. The Xiaomi Car is slated to have the info you need to be displayed directly on the windshield screen, to keep your eyes on the road whilst displaying important data such as the vehicle speed, notifications, and EV battery charge data to you as well.

According to Xiaomi’s official plan, Xiaomi Cars will officially start mass production in 2024. Recently, Lu Weibing said at a financial report conference that Xiaomi’s car development is progressing completely according to the previously set schedule. Xiaomi‘s car making unit, Xiaomi Auto, has apparently had one of its senior officials resign recently. The auto unit’s marketing head has just resigned ahead of the launch of the company’s first ever car model. So here are all the details.

For those unaware, the Head of Marketing at Xiaomi Auto, Zhou Ying has recently resigned from the Chinese tech giant’s car making subsidiary. The marketing executive has resigned mere 7 months after joining the company’s car manufacturing team. Following the official establishment of Xiaomi Auto, the company had begun a series of hiring bringing in experts on board. One of the new leading positions was filled with Zhou Ying, who was also previously the deputy general managed of SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales Company.

As per an official statement from Xiaomi, Zhou Ying has resigned from this position due to personal and family reasons. Before he left the company, he worked as the marketing head of Xiaomi Auto and reported directly to the Founder and CEO of the brand, Lei Jun. This isn’t surprising since we had previously reported on Lei Jun directly working on the Auto brand and also being spotted personally taking the Xiaomi Modena EV out for test drives.

This first ever electric car is believed to feature a sporty sedan look and its design had been recently hinted at. The founder and CEO of the company, Lei Jun, is highly committed to the project and he apparently devotes half of his time and effort to the company’s automotive division. The Chinese firm is confident about its new venture as its CEO recently announced the ambitious goal of placing Xiaomi Auto among the top five car manufacturers globally.

In an interview, Lei Jun said that Xiaomi Auto is aiming to become one of the top five car manufacturers in the world within the next 15-20 years. He highlighted that Xiaomi’s complete control over Xiaomi Auto is a result of utilizing the resources available across the entire company. The firm’s wide number of offline stores in China greatly contribute to the marketing of Xiaomi Auto.

The executive admits that Xiaomi is around 6-7 years behind the competition in China and plans to bring its first car by 2024. Xiaomi Exec responds to brand’s upcoming Modena EV’s design leaks

Over the last couple of weeks, we have reported on a sighting and design leaks for the Xiaomi Modena EV, which is the company’s first ever electric car model. Now, an executive from the brand has responded to these leaks. So let’s have a look.

For those unaware, the Chinese tech giant is working on an electric vehicle that is believed to be called Modena. Earlier this month, the car was spotted going extreme weather testing in the snow, with one of the drivers being the company’s CEO and Founder, Lei Jun himself. Following this, we had also covered another leak, which revealed the front and rear bumper design of the upcoming Modena EV, ahead of its official announcement.

Based on this, we can see that the electric car appears to look quite similar to the Tesla Model 3. This seems somewhat true considering how Xiaomi is building what appears to be a sporty sedan type of vehicle. In response to these leaks, the general manager of PR, Wang Hua, stated that while the recent leaks are related to the company’s upcoming EV model, the design is a generic template.

The senior official added that this template was supplied to Xiaomi by BAIC Mold & Plastic. This statement is likely true considering the design sketch leaks also revealed the suppliers list for the EV, which had also listed BAIC. In other words, apart from the covered sighting of the vehicle, we still have no real idea as to what the Modena EV will look like. The response from the company’s executive could also hint at the prototype models that were spotted in the wild.

Xiaomi Modena EV Design Sketches Leaked, Reveals BAIC as Supplier

While it is already known and officially confirmed that Xiaomi is working on its first ever electric vehicle, finer details like its design and specs are still unknown. But now, a new report has shared leaked images of the upcoming EV model’s design sketches, which revealed some of its design elements. So let’s have a look.

Just recently, we had also reported on the company’s CEO and Founder Lei Jun personally conducting a winter snow test of this car. This showcased that the car is quite ahead in terms of development and is deep into the testing phase as well. Now, the first look of the EV also reveals that the Chinese tech giant is also partnering up with known automobile maker BAIC. For those unaware, the company had established Xiaomi Automobile back in 2021 and officially revealed its plans for an EV model.

Back in July 2022, the first ever prototype was tested, which was based on the BYD Han EV, and the latest sighting was over a snow test. The Xiaomi Car is believed to be called the Modena and its design sketches were just recently leaked. This offers us a look at both the front and rear bumpers. On the front, we can see that the car adopts a sporty look with what appears to be small side air vents and an air intake in the middle.

The front also hosues a pair of oval shaped headlights. Meanwhile, the rear bumpers also feature a similar side air vent imitations. Furthermore, the design is rather simple and aerodynamic. There is no other notable details at the back. While it was previously believed that Xiaomi and BYD were closely working on this project, a list of suppliers was also leaked which showcased BAIC as one of the company’s suppliers that will build one of the body parts.

Xiaomi Car Spotted Being Tested on Snow With Founder Lei Jun Onboard

The Xiaomi Car was just recently spotted while it was undergoing a weather test in China. The upcoming electric vehicle was being tested in the snow, with one of its passenger being the founder and CEO of the company, Lei Jun.

Earlier this week, a Weibo blogger (@不是郑小康) posted pictures that revealed that the Chinese tech giant was conducting a test of the yet to be announced EV model. Lei Jun, the founder himself was present during this test as per the blogger who shared the pictures on the Chinese microblogging website. In other words, the brand was clearly testing out the Xiaomi Car under extreme weather conditions of cold and likely making other key calibrations as well.

There were two EV models spotted in the wild, and it appears that Lei Jun was behind the wheels on one of the test units. Meaning, he personally conducted the tests for the new automobile. Looking at these images, we can tell that Xiaomi has hidden most of the design elements of this upcoming electric vehicle, although, we can make out the overall shape of the car. So, we can expect the Xiaomi Car to be a sporty sedan class model.

Based on the recent sighting, the blogger had also claimed that there was also a LiDAR sensor on the roof of the vehicle, which hints at its driver assistance or self driving (autonomous) technology. Finer details regarding this car is still at large, but the company’s first EV is expected to be a medium sized sedan that will launch in two different versions. Furthermore, the car is rumored to be announced sometime later this year, with first sales expected to begin sometime in 2024.

Xiaomi patents battery tech for its upcoming Xiaomi Car EV

The automobile arm of the Xiaomi Corp has filed for a new patent for its upcoming EV model (electric vehicle). The company has patented a new Power Battery technology that will be housed in the Xiaomi Car.

For those unaware, the Chinese tech giant has long been rumored to be working on its very own electric car. The company then confirmed these rumors and also set up a dedicated automobile unit. This department reportedly had a research and development team of over 500 and was apparently planning on releasing its first model sometime in the first half of 2024. But prior to any official announcement, a new patent was spotted that was for the Power Battery that could power the Xiaomi Car.

Based on the patent’s official documents, the company is working on a Power Battery that houses multiple rows of cells, multiple liquid cooling plates, liquid inlet components, and liquid output components as well. Furthermore, both sides of each row of cells are attached with liquid cooling plates. All of these components for the battery pack like the liquid cooling plates might just imply that the brand is working on a way to improve the service life of EV batteries as well as its safety performance as well.

We can also expect this battery tech to be used in the upcoming EV model from the company. Although this is still just speculation as of right now and Xiaomi could just be covering every base with this patent. So take this report with a pinch of salt for now.

Xiaomi’s first electric car prototype to be unveiled in August 2022

It was reported in November 2021 that Xiaomi may launch its first electric car in 2024. Now, according to a report by Sina Tech (via), Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun will unveil the company the prototype of its first car in the next month (August).

The report claims that Jun spends almost two-thirds of his time at Xiaomi Auto headquarters monitoring the progress of the company’s first car. After its launch in August, the company will conduct a series of tests, including its first winter test. The company reportedly plans to mass produce the first Xiaomi car in 2024.

Xiaomi’s first electric car prototype will be designed by HVST Automobile Design. To those who are unaware, it is the same company that designed WM Motor’s Maven concept car. The report also states that the company is planning to hire a PR director, which indicates that it may launch a promotional campaign soon in the coming months.

In March 2021, the company officially confirmed that it would enter the electric vehicle business. It said it would initially invest $1.5 billion and then invest $10 billion over the next 10 years in its car business. In September 2021, it registered Xiaomi Auto Co., Ltd.

In November 2021, it signed an agreement, to build Xiaomi Auto headquarters and its R&D division in Yizhuang, with the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area Management Committee. The facility, which employs more than 1,000 employees, is reportedly capable of producing 300,00 cars per year.

Xiaomi reportedly aims to launch A+ and B segment cars. The former will come with L2 autonomous driving support and will likely be priced between 150,000 and 200,000 Yuan (~$22,230 and ~$29,640). On the other hand, the latter will support L3 autonomous driving and could be priced between 200,000 Yuan and 300,000 Yuan (~$29,640 and 44,460).

Xiaomi Automobile to show off EV development progress with first prototype in Q3 2022

The engineering prototype of Xiaomi’s very first electric car will be shown off in the third quarter of this year, according to Luo Baojun, general manager of Xiaomi’s Beijing-Tianjin branch, who also promised “breakthroughs” with the vehicle.

Xiaomi announced the production of its electric car in March last year, following which Xiaomi Automobile Co. Ltd. completed the industrial and commercial registration with a capital of 10 billion Yuan (around USD 1.57 billion). The company is being led by Lei Jun with over 500 employees working on R&D under him.

Plans show that Xiaomi Auto will build an EV factory in two phases in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone (via My Drivers). The cumulative annual output of the factory is expected to be 300,000 vehicles, of which the first and second phases have a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

At the start of 2022, Lei Jun put forth a requirement for Xiaomi’s smartphone department to sort of become a middle ground for the entire company. This will encourage talent and technological transfers to the automotive business in the future.

In response to the new requirement, Zeng Xuezhong, senior vice president of Xiaomi Group and president of the mobile phone department, said that the Xiaomi mobile phone department is conducting monthly multi-dimensional technical exchanges with the automotive team involving battery, imaging, software, and supply chain.

Xiaomi car team has over 500 R&D members, first model to launch in H1 2024

Earlier this week, Xiaomi had shared its latest financial report. This revealed that the company’s research and development department currently employs 13,919 members, with more than 500 of these members working on the company’s car project.

According to a new report, the near 14,000 member strong research and development department accounts for around 44 percent of the company’s total number of employees. Previously, we had also reported on the Chinese tech giant had officially registered its first automobile unit, with Lei Jun (Founder and CEO of the brand) leading the division with over 300 employees. The newly established smart electric vehicle business is also wholly owned by the company, while a second automobile unit was also established just a couple of days prior.

Furthermore, the financial report also reveled that the company’s EV business is progressing smoothly and that the first mass produced car will be launched in the first half of 2024. This is in line with our previous report from back in October. To further supplement its future plans of launching fully self driving cars, the brand had even acquired an autonomous driving based startup called Deepmotion in August 2021. Lei Jun, Xiaomi Chief Executive and Founder, has stated that the company is planning on beginning mass production for its self branded cars in the first half of 2024.

A spokesperson of the Chinese tech giant shared the news (Via Reuters) that was based on a comment made by the senior official during an investor event. Zang Ziyuan, a director in Xiaomi’s international marketing department also shared the news on his official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website). Notably, this marks the first official goal for the company in its upcoming electric vehicle division, which was first announced earlier this year.

Furthermore, the brand’s shares also rose by 5.4 percent, which also makes it the biggest daily percentage rise since 12th May 2021. Back in March, the company also stated that it would be investing a sizeable 10 billion US Dollars for its electric car project over the course of the next ten years. In August, Xiaomi had also completed the business registration for its electric vehicle unit as well.

As of right now, the company is on a hiring spree for its car project, although, it had yet to reveal if it will partner up with an established car brand for its vehicle or if it will produce this car on its own. Xiaomi Founder visits FAW over talks for a carmaking deal

Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, has just recently paid a visit to the headquarters of FAW Group in China. The visit from the CEO was apparently for talks related to a new car manufacturing partnership deal for the former’s first car.

According to a Pandaily report (Source), the senior executive of the Chinese tech giant visited the HQ of the known automobile maker in China’s Jilin Province. During his visit to Jilin, Lei Jun event met with the province’s top government officials as well, which includes Jing Junhai, secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. The reason for this visit, as Lei Jun said, was to strengthen the cooperation with Jilin automotive enterprises and to better solidify an automobile production foundation.

Secretary Jing stated that “Xiaomi has strong R&D and production capacity in the fields of consumer electronics and intelligent manufacturing. Jilin has a good industrial foundation, strong scientific research strength and sufficient talent reserve. Xiaomi Corp is planning on buying an autonomous driving technology based startup called Deepmotion. The acquisition deal will amount to 77.4 million US Dollars and arrives as the company gears up to enter the electric vehicle market.

The Chinese tech giant made the announcement for this acquisition after it recorded a better than expected second quarter results. This was especially true in India, where its market recovery enabled it to overtake the Cupertino based giant Apple to become the world’s second largest smartphone maker in terms of shipments. While the company has become a major player in the smartphone market, it aims to further diversify in emerging markets, with EV being one of them.

Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of the company, is currently leading the brand’s electric vehicle project, with Xiaomi previously announcing a sizeable 10 billion US Dollars investment plan over the next decade in the new category. Furthermore, the company is also set to invest heavily into the EV market through its own research and development and manufacturing to produce its first self branded electric car. Now, the acquisition of Deepmotion could help it get further ahead with its goals.

Earlier this year, in the month of March, Xiaomi officially announced the commencement of its smart electric vehicle business. It was also confirmed that the new division will be led by the company’s founder and CEO Lei Jun.

Since the official announcement, the Chinese smartphone maker has been in talks with several car manufacturers for a partnership but nothing has been materialized so far. But in the recent development, it was reported that Xiaomi is looking to acquire a stake in China Evergrande’s Electric Vehicle unit.

Now, the latest report coming from Science Innovation Board Daily claims that Xiaomi will be building its own car from scratch, and details about the same will be officially revealed by the Chinese company next week.

A well-known tipster Digital Chat Station has also revealed that the company has been in contact with a world-renowned auto parts and emission technology supplier and is also working on a design plan.

Xiaomi has put out a statement denying rumors of negotiating with the China Evergrande Group to buy a 65 percent stake. The spokesperson adds that the company has talked with several carmakers but has not made any decision regarding any partnership for its electric vehicles business.

While Xiaomi is refuting rumors, China Evergrande Group says that talks with Xiaomi to sell its EV unit are at a very early stage. Earlier, the company had announced that the group was in talks with potential investors to sell part of its stakes, including its EV and property management units.

Last month, Lei Jun, founder, CEO, and chairman of the Xioami Group visited the SAIC headquarters, adding it to the list of other car-making companies that he visited, including BYD, Great Wall, Wuling, and some other well-known automakers.

At the time, it was revealed that in the past 75 days, Xiaomi’s management has had 85 industry visits, in-depth exchanges with more than 200 automotive industry veterans, four internal management discussions, and two formal board meetings.

Xiaomi aims to offer high-quality smart electric vehicles to allow users globally to enjoy ubiquitous smart life, says Lei Jun. Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, has just shared a new recruitment advertisement on his official Weibo account, a Chinese microblogging website. In this ad, the official has basically revealed that the company is hiring experts in the autonomous driving field for its own automobile unit.

Back in March, the Chinese tech giant had announced that it would enter into the Smart Electric Vehicle business, with an initial investment of around 10 billion Yuan (roughly 1.5 billion US Dollars). Now, the executive has officially shared a recruitment add calling for 500 technical experts to join the “Xiaomi Autonomous Driving Department.” The social media post states that it is looking for 500 experts to create its own proprietary self driving technology for its smart cars.

Furthermore, the company has increased its recruitment efforts and openings for its Auto department in various fields as well. This includes data platforms, millimeter wave algorithms, a control system for the vehicle and its internal components, development tools, front end platform development, embedded software, imaging/perception, high accuracy map, among many others. Lei Jun, the CEO and Founder of Xiaomi has apparently recently visited the Great Wall Motor’s Research and Development Center in China. The news arrives after the company was previously rumored to be working with the automobile maker for its car project.

The senior official of the Chinese tech giant was spotted at the Great Wall Motor’s R&D center earlier this week on June 8. However, neither Xiaomi nor Great Wall Motors has revealed the reason for the CEO’s visit. While the smartphone maker had initially denied any reports regarding its rumored car project, the company later announced its 10 year plan that will have it enter the automobile industry with 10 billion US Dollars as an investment, at the end of March 2021.

As per previous reports, Xiaomi had been negotiating with Great Wall Motors in order to use its factories to build its own electric smart cars. Although, the latter had denied reports of it working with the former for its car project. On the other hand, the brand was even rumored to have been in talks with certain other China based car manufacturers as well.

So, it is still unclear if the company will actually be working with Great Wall Motors for its self branded vehicles. Xiaomi is apparently planning on building its own electric car. The smartphone maker will reportedly be using the factory of China’s Great Wall Motor Co Ltd, a local automobile maker.

According to a Reuters report, sources close to the matter revealed that the Chinese tech giant is the latest firm that is joining the EV (electric vehicles) race. While the company is known for its wide range of consumer electronics products, it is now supposedly diversifying to a new market as well. Since the report first surfaced regarding Xiaomi possibly making its own electric car, the company’s stock price surged by 9 percent earlier today (26th March 2021).

Meanwhile the Great Wall’s Hong Kong stock also rose by 15 percent. At the moment, Xiaomi, which is one of the largest smartphone vendors in the world, is planning on partnering with Great Wall Motors to build EVs under its own brand, as per two of the sources that declined from being identified as the information has yet to be made public. Furthermore, the smartphone maker will aim its electric cars at the mass market.

In other words, it EVs will have a broader position, similar to that of its electronics products, as per these two sources. Notably, Great Wall Motors has yet to offer its manufacturing services to other companies and will also be providing engineering consultancy to speed up the project as well according to one of the sources. Xiaomi is apparently aiming on building its own car. The company is reportedly planning on establishing a project within the next couple of months, and is rapidly working on advancing its automobile manufacturing plans.

According to a 36KR report, the news arrives from investors close to the the company’s CEO and Founder, Lei Jun, who is also rumored to head the Chinese tech giant’s car project. As per the report, the company is expected to launch cars that would focus on the mid to high end market. These cars will also take advantage of the brand’s strong portfolio of technology. Previously, we had covered news that the smartphone maker is making a car, but an official statement clarified that this is not the case.

Furthermore, the report adds that the CEO had already met with Chinese automobile maker’s, NIO, founder as well to consult on building a car. A source familiar with the matter added that the project could start as “soon as this month or next month.” It was also stated that the company’s co founder and Vice President, Wang Chuan, will be in charge of Xiaomi’s car manufacturing.

Additionally, the consumer electronics maker has reportedly plans on contracting with local automobile makers as well. This includes the likes of BYD and other car manufacturers. According to a TechSina report, the Chinese tech giant recently addressed the recent rumors. In a statement titled “Clarification of Reports Regarding Entering the Electric Vehicle Industry,” the brand stated that we will have to “wait and see” and nothing is confirmed as of yet on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The company also added that it had noticed several media reports of it planning on entering the electric vehicle market, but it has yet to to formally establish a project yet.

According to an iFengNews report, multiple sources have recently stated that the Chinese tech giant is planning on building its own car and is considering it as a strategic decision, but the specific details and path it aims to take has yet to be determined. The sources also claimed that there are many variables and nothing is set in stone. As per a person familiar with the matter, the project will directly be led by the smartphone maker’s Founder and CEO, Lei Jun, although, the company has yet to respond when asked about this.

Back in 2013, Lei Jun had visited the US twice to meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and now it seems that its interest on the field has grown. The report adds that the diversification arrives as the smartphone market faces stagnation. Furthermore, the electric smart vehicle market has been seeing a rise in popularity. So, it won’t arrive as a complete surprise if the company aims to expand its presence into an untapped market, especially in regards with its considerable research and development team and expertise in electronic hardware.

Recently we have been hearing rumors about an upcoming car from Xiaomi called as the Xiaomi ‘Mistla’. The reports said that the Chinese giant, Xiaomi was planning to release its own car for a very affordable price tag of $6400. However, we don’t think that company is ready to expand into making something as big as a car.

Here’s are a few reasons why we don’t think Xiaomi will release a car called ‘Mistla’ anytime soon.

1: The rumor was initially posted on wechat at 10th December, and from the screenshot below we can see it got 100000+ views till right now, and after 2 days, it’s been published on Mydrivers.com. My drivers.com’s alexa rank is 1874, it’s a second class press website in China, the news is not spreading to sites like Sina.com, neteasy.com and qq.com, the first class press websites.

And if we search the title of the article “小米汽车内部代号米斯拉我这算传谣吗?” in the largest online search engine “Baidu.com”, we will find Xiaomi’s fans also re-posted the article to Xiaomi’s official forum “http://bbs.xiaomi.cn/”

The article was initially posted at here, but after you clicked this url, you will see the screenshot below, and the translation of the Chinese is “The post has been removed or under review”.

So even Xiaomi’s official forum is preventing people fromp gossiping about the “Mistla” supermini car. Do we still have the reason to believe it’s true?
