Xiaomi, the known smartphone brand, has just launched a new product in its key market, India. The Mi KN95 Masks has just been launched earlier today (13th October 2020) and is aimed at consumers amid the growing health concerns.

The Mi KN95 Mask is being launched in the country as a daily driver for those looking for better protection during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. It offers four layers of protection, which is fabricated with a non woven material on the outermost part for filtering particles and the innermost layer for optimal breathing. The Mi KN95 Masks from Xiaomi also offers two layers of melt blown fabric that help in filtering bacteria and small particles.

The mask also conforms with the standard values and arrives with a 95 percent + Bacterial Filter Efficiency (BFE). In other words, it prevents any particles between the size of 1-5 microns while the bacterial filter helps in preventing the entry of any nonviable particles that are between 0.1 microns to 1 micron in size. Furthermore, the microfiltration material used in the mask is soft, lightweight, and is even gentle on the skin, offering comfortable wear for long periods of use.

Notably, the Inspiratory Resistance of Mi KN95 masks is 153.9 Pa while the Expiratory Resistance is 137.9 Pa. Meaning, it offers good breathability and airflow. The mask is also designed with a nose pin that helps in providing a firm grip and prevents any leakage as well that would potentially fog glasses as well. A pack of 2 Mi KN95 masks is priced at 250 INR (roughly 3.5 US Dollars), while a pack of 5 is available for 600 INR (roughly 8 US Dollars) from Mi.com, Mi Homes, and select retail stores.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi, the known electronics company, was granted the license for a new patent license. The patent was initially applied for back in 22nd May 2019 and was granted on 17th March 2020.

According to the patent description, the license is for a new face mask. The notable thing about this particular mask is that it features a 3 dimensional support skeleton that better fits a wearer’s face. In other words, it is more ergonomic in terms of use and should theoretically better sit on a user’s face. This skeletal support is made from plastic and can also be adjusted when force is applied in a certain area, meaning it is probably flexible and moldable for a comfortable fit.

The other function this new Xiaomi face mask could potentially offer is a better air restriction. In other words, it could effectively improve air seal around one’s face. This helps by offerings a better protection, even in compromised areas where infection by air borne diseases can be contracted. So, in today’s time where the coronavirus outbreak is a real threat, this face mask could potentiall save lives and help curb the chances of infection.

For those unaware, a new strand of Coronavirus started to spread like wild fire in China. Earlier today (5th February 2020), the Xiaomi Youpin platform released a protective breathing face mask. The face mask is rated F95 and has been designed for children. It is easier to breathe through than conventional face masks and provides a better fit for Asians.

The F95 face mask is capable of filtering bacteria, viruses, PM2.5 particles, dust and more. The children’s mask has been designed with ages over 6 years old and implements a four layer filtering structure, with air being purified in each layer. This effectively cleanses nearly 95 percent of PM2.5 particles from the air around the user and even arrives with a nano bacterial coating to prevent infection from cuts.

In comparison to traditional face masks, the breathing resistance of the F95 certified mask is way lower than that of a conventional KN95 standard mask. Thus, it is more suitable for children or users of young age. Furthermore, the face mask has been built with Asian faces in mind as the people behind it researched the Asian facial structure to provide a better fit with 3D sealing covering Chinese children’s faces.

The strap of the face mask is also made to be user friendly and features elastic silicone material that is skin friendly. The material makes it easier to wear and allows for the length of the strap to be adjusted as well. For air circulation, the mask lets the airflow circulate in from the left and out from the right.

The left is colored blue while the right is colored red. This leaves less space for air to be trapped on the inside of the mask and ensures smoother breathing. Every part of the face mask can be cleaned and disinfected using a mild detergent, excluding the filter of the mask which needs to be replaced. It is currently available on Xiaomi’s Youping platform online and is priced at 199 Yuan (roughly 29 US Dollars).

The products an anti-haze mask which will obviously be a useful one this season.It is already on sale today and comes with a price tag of just 39 Yuan ($6). In case you are wondering the name of the product, it goes by the name Chi Light breathing haze mask.

China and other industrialized countries have to grapple with the effects of urbanization, one of which is poor air quality. So, it is a popular sight to see people moving about with face mask over their face. This isn’t the first anti-haze mask Xiaomi has released but it is one of the cheapest at just 39 Yuan ($6). The new haze mask continues with the stylish design of the 69-Yuan AirWear mask released last year. 

The new Chi Light Haze mask comes with the KN95 protection standard which can effectively block particles of PM 2.5 sizes. Apart from that, itis also effective against dust, pollen, car exhaust fumes, and other harmful particles in the air. The mask won’t likely pose problems of wearing discomfort as it is manufactured using TPU stretch film materials as well as environmentally friendly polyurethane cotton composite material. The material takes the shape of the user’s face as it is used continuously.

The straps are also made from user-friendly materials that won’t cause discomfort.The haze masks are also well equipped with a three-position ear hook which ensures it can be worn easily even when the user is putting on an eyeglass. The breathing valve has also been improved, thus bringing down the inhalation resistance from 175Pa to 100Pa.  While the exhalation resistance stands at just 45Pa, thus ensuring that the mask stays dry always.
