The global chip shortage bedeviling the electronic industry at present isn’t expected to go away until 2023 but smartphone companies seem to have found a way around, or so we thought. Turns out the chip shortage is critically affecting the industry as Xiaomi Indonesia has come out to announce the discontinuation of the Redmi Note 10 smartphone’s production.

According to a report carried by the local arm of CNBC International, the company is encouraging fans to buy other models in the Redmi Note 10 lineup instead. The Redmi Note 10’s production is reportedly affected by chip shortage and there is hardly any doubt that the discontinuation will spread to other markets soon.

Already, Xiaomi has repeatedly increased the price of the Redmi Note 10 in India. The company has also increased the pricing of the Pro variant twice by ₹500 each time since the launch of the series smartphones in the Indian market. These increments are attributed to a shortage of components. Also, the 6GB+64GB variants of the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max were discontinued entirely in India.

Buyers are encouraged by Xiaomi Indonesia to buy the Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10S, and the Redmi Note 10 5G instead. However, there is no guarantee those models won’t sell out soon as well.

The Mi 10T series made its debut in Europe in September. It then made its way to India in October. Today, Xiaomi has announced that the Mi 10T Pro will be launched in Indonesia this month.

The announcement which was made on Twitter revealed that the flagship phone will be launched in the country on December 8. The launch will be live-streamed and will begin at 7:30 PM Western Indonesian Time.

The Mi 10T Pro will be the second Xiaomi flagship phone launched in the country. Earlier this year, the Mi 10 series made its way to Indonesia but only the standard model was announced. Seeing as the Mi 10 Pro 5G didn’t launch, it is understandable why it is only the Mi 10T Pro launching in the country now. Its other siblings, the Mi 10T and the Mi 10T Lite will not be sold there.

The Mi 10T Pro has a 6.67-inch LCD display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. The screen which has a hole in the top left corner of the screen also has a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 5.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 865 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. The phone comes in 128GB and 256GB versions but we don’t know if just one or both will be available when the phone launches next week.

There is a 20MP camera in front of the device while the rear is home to a 108MP primary camera, a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera. The Mi 10T Pro can record in 8K at 30fps and in 4K at up to 60fps. There is no audio jack but you get stereo speakers. The phone also has NFC and Bluetooth 5.1.

There is a 5000mAh battery inside the phone with support for 33W fast wired charging. Xiaomi ships the Mi 10T Pro with MIUI 12 based on Android 10.

Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi Note 9 in Spain. The smartphone is now available on Xiaomi Spain official website. Pricing starts at 179 Euros. The Chinese tech giant also took the wraps off the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro for the Indonesian market.

The Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro are successors of the Redmi Note 8 and note 8 Pro which heralded the market last year and raked in good revenue for the Chinese tech giant. For the Indonesian market, pricing starts at RP 2,399,000 (~$170) for the 4GB+64GB variant. The 6GB+128GB variant adopts a retail price of RP 2,799,000 (~$199).

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 6GB+64GB variant costs RP3,399,000 (~$241) and the 8GB+128GB variant retails for RP3,799,000 (~$270).

The Redmi Note 9 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and sports a 6.53-inch FHD+ DotDisplay with Gorilla Glass 5 and splash-proof nano-coating. The display houses a punch hole at the top left corner of the screen for the selfie camera

As the rear, you get a quad-camera setup consisting of a 48MP f/1.79 with 4-in-1 Super Pixel, an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide angle with a 118° viewing angle, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor, and a 2MP Macro Camera. Up in front is a 13MP sensor with support for Face Unlock. Xiaomi ships the Redmi Note 9 with a bunch of cool camera features including a kaleidoscope effect, document scanner, night mode, and portrait mode (on both sides).

There is a massive 5020mAh battery inside the Redmi Note 9 and it supports 18W fast charging. You also get a 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, IR blaster, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display that offers Full HD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Snapdragon 720G processor paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage.

At the rear aspect sits a quad-camera setup which includes a 48-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter, a 5-megapixel macro shooter and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. The device crams a 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

While we await the POCOPHONE F2/POCO F2’s arrival, Alvin Tse, the global head of POCOPHONE has a new huge responsibility. The executive took to Twitter to announce that he is the new head of Xiaomi Indonesia.

Alvin will pull double duty as the head of Xiaomi’s Indonesian business and the global head of POCOPHONE. He replaces Steven Shi who now has a new role as the General Manager of Xiaomi Southeast Asia.

Xiaomi says that the appointment is to strengthen the leadership structure in the region which is an important market for it. Xiaomi also says it is an improvement in its global expansion strategy.

Xiaomi is definitely one of the fastest growing smartphone companies in the world right now. In just a few years, it was able to reach the top 5 world’s best smartphone manufacturers. One of the countries in which the Chinese company is obtaining the highest success is Indonesia, at least from what a new report is highlighting. Wang Xiang from Xiaomi has just tweeted that the company became the second smartphone brand in Indonesia, according to a report by the known research firm IDC. From the graphic published, we can clearly see that the company is very close to Samsung which currently occupies the first place in the ranking with a market share of 27 percent.

Instead, Xiaomi has a 25 percent market share which represents a growth of 23 percent compared to the same period of the last year. The data refers to Q2 2018, so the period which goes from April to June that is also the latest quarter passed. At the third and fourth spot in the ranking, there are Oppo and Vivo, both companies owned by BBK Electronics, with market shares of 18 percent and 9 percent, respectively. Unlike Xiaomi, Oppo has registered a decline of 6 percent points if we compare its performance in Q2 2018 to Q2 2017.

A huge part of Xiaomi’s success was surely achieved thanks to its affordable mid-rangers such as the ones from Xiaomi Redmi Note series. Note that in the first quarter of the year, it was mainly Samsung and Oppo devices that were best sellers in Indonesia, at least from what Strategy Analytics reported. In the fourth place of the ranking, there is the local vendor Advan Digital. Xiaomi sure knows how to take on the competition. The Chinese tech giant is set to battle for the leadership of the television market in Indonesia with the likes of Samsung, LG, Panasonic and others. The affordable Mi TV 4A 32-inch model is the company’s first smart TV to go official in Indonesia. The price of the cheap Mi TV 4A gets even cheaper in Indonesia where it is priced way cheaper than the 32-inch models by other competing brands. To complement the TV segment, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A budget smartphones.

The Xiaomi Mi TV 4A (32 inches) uses a plastic housing with its entire body coming in black colour. As a result of the plastic body in use, the new Mi TV 4A comes with a highly reduced weight which is just 3.9Kg, making it suitable to be easily carried around. When the base is attached to the TV frame, the weight goes up to 3.94Kg.

On the specifications, the Mi TV 4A features a 32-inch display with a rather disappointing resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels and refresh rate of 60Hz. The TV has a viewing angle of 178 degrees. It is powered by a Quad-core 1.5GHz processor having four Cortex-A53 cores. The graphic is powered by a Mali-450 MP3 GPU while the processor is supported by 1GB of RAM and there is 4GB of storage space available inside. The Mi TV 4A (32) also comes with two 5W stereo speakers while available interface includes two HDMI, an AV port, an S/PDIF output, DTMB, USB port and a connector. The Mi TV 4A 32-inch version also runs Xiaomi TV PatchWall system meaning it has some smart features such as content recommendation according to user’s habit, seamless streaming of content and others.

As for the price, the Mi TV 4A 32-inch comes in at Rp. 1,999,000 which is about $134. You’ll agree this is an amazing price tag. It is even cheaper than the 1,099 yuan ($163) price tag with which it was unveiled in China last year. The smart TV will go on pre-order on Lazada on September 6 while open sales will commence on September 20 via Mi.com while offline sales on Mi authorized stores across Indonesia will commence on September 29.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A

Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A comes with their specs unchanged from the China version. The Redmi 6 and 6A phones feature 5.45-inch IPS LCD display that produces 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The Redmi 6 is powered by an Helio P22 chipset whereas the Redmi 6A packs a less powerful Helio A22. The Redmi 6A smartphone has 2 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 16 GB. On the other side, the Redmi 6 comes in two models such as 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of inbuilt storage and 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage.

The Redmi 6 has a dual camera setup at the consisting of a 12-megapixel main sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor while there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera. On the other hand, the Redmi 6A packs a 13-megapixel rear camera and a front snapper of 5-megapixel. For colour availability, both models are available in black, gold and blue.

As for the prices, the Redmi 6A with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage is priced at IDR 1,249 million (~$83) and will go on sale on September 10 via blibli.com and Mi Store. As for the Redmi 6, it is priced at Rp 1.9 million ($127) for the 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage version. The 4GB + 64Gb version is priced at Rp 2.4 million ($160). The Redmi 6 will go on sale on September 6 at e-commerce Lazada and Mi Store.

Xiaomi‘s fan base is sweeping rapidly through the whole of Asia, America, Europe and even Africa. This is evident in the large reception which greets the opening of a new Mi store in any of the countries in these regions. Globally, the fan base on the Mi Forum has seen an exponential increase over the years. Some of the fans have different ways of showing their love for the Mi brand. However, we don’t think we have seen any display of Mi love which compares to what a couple in Indonesia did by naming their child Xiaomi.

We are not sure if they even know the right pronunciation of the word or its meaning but as a manifestation of their love for the innovative Mi brand, they gave their daughter who was born in August 2017, the name. Don’t think this is another hype, the disclosure was made by XIaomi’s global VP Wang Xang and he shared a picture of the child’s birth certificate along with the news. The identity of the couple was also revealed as Fredi Yana (27) and Delima (25), residents of Abungjayo Village, Abung Selatan, North Lapung. The father, Fredi is said to have been a huge fan of the Mi brand since 2016. Coincidentally, the name Xiaomi means Small Rice in Mandarin and rice is the staple food of most Indonesian families.

Xiaomi‘s Redmi series has been one of its most successful product range. Xiaomi’s international Product and Marketing director, Donovan Sung has revealed that the Redmi Note5 would be launched in Indonesia on April 18. The Xiaomi exec made this disclosure o his official Weibo page. This announcement thus effectively confirms that China’s Redmi Note 5 is the global version. Recall that the Redmi Note 5 was first launched as Redmi Note 5 Pro in India with a slightly different specs line up.

China’s Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The major marketing feature of the Redmi Note 5 is the AI dual cameras which it packs at the rear. The Redmi Note 5’s AI Dual Camera comprises of a 12MP primary sensor that has a pixel size of 1.4micron and f/1.9 aperture along with a 5MP secondary depth of field sensor. It is equipped with features like dual autofocus, EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), HDR, Burst Mode and Panorama. The dual rear cameras can also capture amazing AI driven portrait shots by naturally blurring the background. Apart from shooting full HD videos, it can also record 720p slow-motion videos.

At the front, the phone features a soft LED flash-enabled 13MP selfie camera that carries support for AI portrait mode. This is different from the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s 20MP selfie shooter. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as a Face ID technology to unlock the device using face recognition.

The reports from the company has unveiled that 5,000 phones were sold out in just 7 minutes. Although the first flash sale of Indonesia is not able to beat the records set up in Indian flash sales of Xiaomi phones. In India, 40,000 Redmi 1S was out of the stock in just 4 seconds. The Lazada will do free home delivery of these smartphones. Redmi 1S was launched officially last week in Indonesia.

Just days after launching Redmi 1S in India. Chinese mobile manufacturing giant, Xiaomi has launched its latest offering the Redmi 1S in Indonesia today. The phone will be available for sale on the Indonesian e-commerce site, Lazada. The company is set to utilise the tactic of flash sale to move large stocks of the phone. The first flash sale begins on 4^th September at 11 am and will continue till stocks last. Customers have already started registering for this sale and registrations continue till 3^rd September.

Xiaomi is selling this phone in Indonesia for IDR 1.5 million or $128 which is on a slightly steep side as compared to the India where it is priced at $99. However, the users still feel that the phone is good value for the money. Redmi 1S has a 4.7-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 p. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and has a 1 GB RAM. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and supports dual sims. It has an 8 MP rear camera and a 1.6 MP front camera. It also possesses 8 GB internal storage expandable up to 64 GB.

Xiaomi is trying to make its presence felt outside China as it launched Redmi 1S in India at a very competitive price. For Indonesia, the company has already set up 17 service centres to build a stronger and wider customer base.
