About four months ago, we saw a device known as the Xiaomi Meri surface on Geekbench. Back then it ran Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A report later surfaced saying that ‘Meri’ is the codename for the Xiaomi Mi 5C. Today the device has again surfaced on Geekbench but with a couple of changes.

The new Geekbench listing shows the Xiaomi Meri runs Android 7.1.1 but still keeps the 1.4GHz processor which we have come to know as the Pinecone V670. The RAM is also the same at 3GB but the benchmark scores have increased slightly.

The device scores 762 in the single-core test and 3399 in the multi-core test, up from 758 and 3105 when it ran Android 6.0.

Xiaomi had earlier today announced that it will be launching its new Pinecone processor on the 28th of February. There is no mention of the Xiaomi Mi 5C being launched on that day. However, the chances of that happening are slim. While this device might be running Android Nougat, it doesn’t seem MIUI 9 is ready. It will be unusual to launch the Mi 5C with MIUI 8 based on Android Nougat. On the other hand, if it launches with Android Marshmallow, we can be sure of it getting updated to Nougat.

The Xiaomi Mi 5C is expected to be the first Xiaomi phone released with the Pinecone V670 processor. Rumored to be released in March, a new image of the phone has been leaked online showing it sporting a new design.

When the first set of images of the Mi 5C were leaked online back when it was still called Xiaomi Meri, the device featured a physical home button. However, this new image leaked on Weibo by @strong machine and said to have originated from a Foxconn factory lacks the physical home button. Another difference is the position of the front camera which has been moved from the right to the left.

This new device is better looking and the front bezels are thinner but since there is no picture of the rear we can’t confirm the position of the fingerprint scanner. The front also lacks the groove of the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner in the Mi 5S. So we can’t say if there is one embedded underneath the display.

We might have to wait until more leaks surface or until the phone is eventually released in March. The Xiaomi Mi 5C is rumored to have a 5.5-inch display, 3GB RAM, 64GB of built-in storage and a 12MP Omnivision 12870 rear camera. The front camera is an 8MP shooter and there is a 4500mAh battery in it. Since MIUI 9 is not out yet, it should ship with MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0. Price is said to be about ¥1499 (~$218).

The Xiaomi Mi 5C has turned out to be one of Xiaomi‘s rumored device that just refused to meet with us. The device has been popping in and out of the radar, even finding its way into e-commerce websites Jingdong (JD.com) and Taobao but yet wasn’t released. Perhaps Xiaomi was waiting for the right time to unveil the first device that would carry its self-developed Pinecone processor. But it looks like we’ll finally meet the Mi 5C soon if the latest rumor we are getting is anything to go by.

Coming from research analyst Kevin Wang, is the revelation that the Mi 5C would indeed feature an octa-core Pinecone processor developed by Xiaomi.The processor would be based on the Cortex-A53 cores in a 4×4 arrangement which place it in the mid-range category. The analyst also hinted that the Mi 5C could be released this month. In addition, another tipster added his voice to the discuss by revealing that there is another SoC with the more powerful Cortex-A73 cores still in a 4 x 4 architecture which would be released later on.

Xiaomi Mi 5C has been popping in and out of the news for quite some time now and it is still not been launched. The Mi 5C has once again appeared on another certification portal, the time on the website of China Quality Certification centre (CCC or 3C).

According to the source, five different Xiaomi new models were said to have gone through the certification. The models were listed with the following model numbers; 2105212, 2016089, 2016101, MAE136 and MBE6A5. Of the five models, the one listed as MAE136 is said to be the Mi 5C, also code-named Meri.

The listing for the Mi 5C aka Xiaomi Meri shows that the device will use a 5V/2A power adapter and thus does not support the current high voltage fast charge technology. The Mi 5C comes with ultra-narrow bezels around the display and a sleek design overall. The device is also tipped to launch with Xiaomi’s own Pinecone processor and it did post a score on AnTuTu similar to the Snapdragon 625 capabilities. Other likely specs of the Mi 5C includes a 5.5-inch display with 2.5D curved glass, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 12MP rear camera and 8MP front-facing selfie shooter. The device will run on MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow. The Mi 5C is said to have gotten a February release date, we just hope it turns out to be true.

Xiaomi Mi 5C has been fizzling in and out of the news radar for quite some time now. The device has now been listed on popular online mall Jingdong (JD.com) with a price tag of 9,999 Yuan which is very likely an error. This is a surprising one, though, and could only mean that the Mi 5C’s launch is perhaps imminent.

According to the source, this is a third party listing and could be just to elicit our enthusiasm for the long expected Xiaomi smartphone. But then we never can tell, the Xiaomi Mi 5C could be launched very soon but not for 9999 Yuan. The device has previously been spotted on Taoboa listed with a 999 Yuan price tag ($144), so it is possible the Jingdong-listed 9999 Yuan price tag is an error. The device is speculated to fall into the 999 Yuan price category when launched considering the specs.

News about Xiaomi releasing a smaller version of its Mi 5 flagship, called the Mi 5c, have been circulating for a while. Latest report says that the Xiaomi phone code-named Meri is actually the Xiaomi Mi 5c. Surprisingly, online mall, Taobao, has already listed the phone on its site.

While it is not unusual for a retail site to list a phone before its official release, this still caught us unawares as phones that are usually listed before their release date are phones that are very popular and whose release are confirmed such as Samsung’s S series flagships, a Nexus or an iPhone.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c is listed on Taobao for 999 Yuan ($144) but they’ve also added that its a sale price and not the final price.

The page says the Mi 5C is also VR ready and you can decide to add a VR glasses (or a power bank or bluetooth headphones) to your order. One weird thing is that the specification page lists the specs of the Xiaomi Mi 4c and not the specs of the Mi 5c that have leaked. The processor is listed as a Snapdragon 808, the screen size as 5-inches, and the release date as September, 2015.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c on the other hand is expected to launch with a 5.5” display, Xiaomi’s in-house processor named ”Pinecone”, and the release date is still unknown. All these contradictions lead us to doubt the authenticity of the images. So until Xiaomi officially launches this phone, we’ll have to take this with a pinch of salt.

It seems to have been established that the Xiaomi smartphone code-named Meri is in fact the Mi 5C and leaks about the expected phone is coming out more often. The latest is a set of leaked renders of the Xiaomi Mi 5C showing the front and back view of the sleek device.

The latest leaked renders surfaced on Weibo and although the user did not give a specific name to the phone model (pictured above), the image looked very similar to the previous renders of the Mi 5C.

Popular tipster @kjuma also revealed similar renders of the device sporting a different color theme on the display. In one of the renders which seem to be a screenshot from one of the e-commerce website, the device is labelled as Mi 5C with the code-name Meri as well but the 999 Yuan price tag might be incorrect.

The Xiaomi Mi 5C features a unique and beautiful design, sporting n all-metal body surrounding a 5.5-inch display with 2.5D glass on top. There is also narrow bezels surrounding the display. The device is said to be Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature its in-house Pinecone processor supported by 3GB of RAM. The Mi 5C will also feature a front fingerprint sensor embedded under the oblong-shaped home button. The recent leaks could be indicators that the Mi 5C would be released soon and of course, earlier rumor hint at the device being available for the 12.12 sales next month.

The year is almost drawing to a close but that doesn’t mean the Chinese smartphone makers are taking their foot off the pedal just yet. We recently got feelers Meizu was working on a MediaTek P10-powered Meizu Note 5. Well, Xiaomi is also not left out as the company is reportedly working on a couple of devices, one of which is the Xiaomi Mi 5C.

The Xiaomi Mi 5C was first imprinted on our psyche in early October when we saw renders alleged to be of the device. Recall that we were also treated to renders and specs of a device code-named Meri on GeekBench and AnTuTu benchmarks sporting a self-developed Pinecone processor.. The latest report hints that the said Xiaomi Meri is in really, the Mi 5C.

The Mi 5C is in fact said to be a lower version of the highly popular Mi 5 which sported a sleek design. From the renders, the Mi 5C actually looks like the Mi 5 and without doubt, also look similar to the device code-named Meri.

Xiaomi just released the Mi Note 2 and Xiaomi Mix as well as the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A not too long ago, but it seems the tech giant isn’t done yet with smartphone releases for this year. This is because the device identified as Xiaomi Meri which did appear on AnTuTu and GeekBench is back in the news.

It would be recalled that the Xiaomi Meri came with a surprisingly new in-house processor said to have been developed by Xiaomi. Now, a set of leaked images have explicitly showed the Meri’s performance while running GeekBench 4.0 test, something it did in October. While these images and data are not new, they come with some added information. As would be recalled, the device manages a total score of 758 on the single-core test while it did poll 3105 points on the multi-core test. When compared to the AnTuTu result of 63581, it seems very likely that the device would be using a low-end processor.

Now a new leaked information has revealed that the Xiaomi Meri would come in Rose gold, gold and black colors, with the leakster specifically mentioning that there will be no white variant. The device will be powered by the Pine Cone processor developed by Xiaomi and also doesn’t have big black borders at the edge of the display. There is also NFC on the device among other features.

According to the latest rumor, the device comes in at around 1499 yuan ($219) and would likely be available for purchase during the 12.12 sales slated for December 12. What that means is that the device should launch later this month, according to the source.

This move has actually been in the works for a while. Back in 2014 a company called Beijing Pinecone Electronics which is controlled by Xiaomi signed an agreement with Chinese chip designer Leadcore Technology Ltd, a subsidiary of state backed Datang Telecom, to jointly design 4G multiple mode chips.

Weibo account @Science and Technology suspects the unknown chip in the Xiaomi Meri is one of the chips from the company. An information page from the phone’s Antutu result also shows the processor has a Mali-T860 GPU and that the Meri has a 5.46” 1080p screen. Another image which shows the EXIF data of a picture taken with the phone’s camera also has the word PINECONE.

The move by Xiaomi to start using their own processors will come as bad news for chip-makers Qualcomm and Mediatek who supply the tech giant with chips for all its phones. You can imagine how much money the company would have saved if the best seller, the Redmi Note 3 had a Xiaomi chip.

About a week ago we covered news of an unknown Xiaomi phone said to be the Xiaomi Mi 5c. According to recent reports, the phone is not the Mi 5c but the Xiaomi Meri. The Xiaomi Meri was benchmarked on Antutu and GeekBench yesterday revealing new details about the device.

Starting with GeekBench, the Xiaomi Meri scored 758 points in the single core test and 3105 in the multi-core test. Comparing these scores to that of the Nokia D1C, we can say both phones are in the same class. While the Xiaomi does score higher than the Nokia in the single score test, the Nokia D1C has a higher multi-core test score. The similarity of both devices doesn’t even end there. They both use 8-core processors clocked at 1.4GHz, although we already know the D1C is equipped with a Snapdragon 430 SoC but that of the Meri is unknown.

The Xiaomi Meri runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has 3GB of RAM which is in accordance to last week’s leak but the surprising part is the processor. An image from the first leak shows the phone has a processor clocked at 2.2GHz, even one of the new pictures below still shows the same info but the processor on GeekBench is clocked at 1.4GHz. A possible explanation might be the use of two different processors, hinting at more than one variant of the phone.

Going to Antutu, the Xiaomi Meri scores a total of 63,581 points which is way lower than what a high-end phone should score. The Meri is also compared against the LG V10 in one of the pictures above and even scores higher in some categories.
