You should not expect a high-end design with these handsets. Redmi 10X and Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth sport the same AMOLED panel with a 6.57-inch diagonal, the HDR10+ certification, and a Full HD+ resolution. This panel is actually better than the display found on the Honor 30 Youth in terms of image quality. On the other hand, Honor 30 Youth offers a higher refresh rate with 90 Hz, so it is more suitable for gamers and it provides a smoother viewing experience. A lot of people prefer a 60 Hz AMOLED display instead of a 90 Hz IPS panel: which would your choice be?

Hardware/Software

Redmi 10X and Honor 30 Youth are powered by the Dimensity 800 chipset by MediaTek, while Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth is equipped with a Snapdragon 765G. A few months ago, Xiaomi had launched the Mi 10 Youth Edition smartphone as a watered-down variant of the Mi 10 flagship smartphone in the Chinese market. Now, as a part of the special offer, the company is offering a 300 yuan (~$42) discount on the purchase of Mi 10 Youth Edition.

The discount is applicable to the 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage model. With this offer, the phone is now available for purchase at 1,999 yuan (~$283) instead of the original price of 2,299 yuan (~$325).

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition comes with a 6.57-inch Pentile AMOLED display – same as the international Mi 10 Lite 5G edition. It supports HDR10+, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 800 nits of peak brightness.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor and comes with liquid cooling support, along with 6/8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage, depending on the variant.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth and Redmi K30i come with a more powerful chipset: the octa-core Snapdragon 765G. Redmi 10X 5G has a Dimensity 800 by MediaTek, not as amazing as the Snapdragon 765G but still a very nice processor. Note that with the Redmi K30i you only get 6 gigs of RAM and 128 GB of native storage, while Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth goes up to 8 GB paired with 256 GB of internal storage. Android 10 is out of the box on all of these devices with the same MIUI 11 customization.

Camera

The most awesome rear cameras are mounted on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth. It has the same 48 MP main sensor as the Redmi K30i and Redmi 10X 5G, but it includes an 8 MP periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom, unlike its two opponents which do not even feature a telephoto lens. Redmi K30i is superior when it comes to rear cameras, thanks to its dual 20 + 2 MP selfie camera. Redmi 10X 5G is the most disappointing one as it lacks both a telephoto lens and a macro camera.

Battery

On 5G phones battery life is more important compared to 4G phones, that is why battery capacities increased on 2020 devices. With the Redmi 10X 5G, you will most likely achieve a longer battery life in most of the scenarios since it has the biggest battery and the most efficient components. Redmi K30i has a similar battery capacity, but its wider IPS display with a higher refresh rate will likely be more energy-demanding and it will have higher consumption.

Price

You need just €200/$220 to grab a unit of the Redmi 10X 5G, Redmi K30i costs €250/$275 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth starts from €265/$295. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth wins the comparison thanks to its better cameras, the best hardware, and a very nice display, but just by a low margin. Also, note that Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth has a way smaller battery than its rivals. You should go for the Redmi K30i if you do not care about having the best optical zoom and the best image quality, while there is no valid reason to choose the Redmi 10X 5G unless you want a Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth with worse cameras and a bigger battery.

Late last month, Xiaomi launched Mi 10 Youth Edition in China. This smartphone, albeit being a mid-ranger features 5x periscope camera with support for up to 50x digital zoom. Recently, Lei Jun, the co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi shared a video showcasing the zooming capability of this handset.

In the video, a Mi 10 Youth Edition mounted on a tripod zooms in 50x times digitally to click a picture of Ping’an International Financial Center building. According to the caption of the Weibo post, the picture was captured from Shenzhen Bay Park, which is 10 kilometres away from the building.

One might say, that’s an impressive feat but actually, it is not. We can clearly see a ton of noise in the viewfinder. Also, the video does not show us the final output as it will definitely have noises even after post-processing.

Anyway, this is the case with all the smartphones with a periscope camera when they are zoomed at their maximum level. However, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition beats other phones with a similar camera with its price. Retailing at 2099 Yuan ($296), it is the cheapest phone in the world with a periscope camera.

The retail box is randomly designed with different avatars which make it attractive. This perhaps because the device is targeted at the youths. Inside the retail box, you get the smartphone, a TPU case, a charging adapter and data cable, SIM tray ejector, and two cartoon stickers.

Xiaomi announced the Mi 10 Lite in Europe back in March. Now the same model has been launched in China with slight changes in its camera specifications. The Chinese variant keeps the same design as the international Lite edition but brings a few upgrades in the camera department for better positioning in the highly competitive Chinese smartphone market.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth 5G Design

Just like the Mi 10 Lite, the Mi 10 Youth Edition for China comes with a waterdrop AMOLED display upfront and a rectangular camera housing at the back. The camera housing has curved corners which sets it apart from other rectangular camera designs and the back is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Xiaomi is marketing the Mi 10 Youth as a lightweight and compact 5G smartphone for China. The phone measures just 7.88mm in thickness and weigh 192 grams. This is quite respectable given the large 4160mAh battery inside.

The Mi 10 Youth 5G will come in five colors – White, Peach, Blue, Black, and Mint Green. There’s also a special Doraemon limited edition.
