Xiaomi has officially released the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship in India. Fans have been waiting for this beast for quite some time in the country and finally, they can get hold of one for themself. The phone will be first available for sale on April 6, which is an important day given that it’s the company’s sixth anniversary.

Interestingly, Xiaomi has decided to offer only one variant in India, namely the 3GB RAM + 32GB RAM in the country. At the launch back in China, the company had revealed three different variants of the device, a standard variant with 3GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB and a high-end Mi 5 Pro variant with 4GB  + 64GB RAM.

Another interesting thing about this launch is that the Xiaomi Mi 5’s first flash sale will be conducted on the official website of the company, i.e. Mi.com on April 6. But the company has confirmed that the phone will be available via other e-commerce websites a few weeks later.

To recap, the Xiaomi Mi 5 3GB RAM + 32GB storage comes with the Snapdragon 820 chipset with Adreno 530 GPU. At the back, there will be a 16MP camera with 4-axis OIS and sapphire glass protection lens. Further, the phone comes with PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), dual LED flash and 4K video support. Up front, there will be a 4MP Ultrapixel camera with large 2-micron sensor featuring f/2.0 aperture.

The phone comes with 3000mAh battery inside a body measuring 7.25mm thickness. Mi 5 comes with the super fast Quick Charge 3.0 standard, which is 20 percent faster than the previous generation QC 2.0. The display will be of 5.15-inches with a resolution of 1080p. Other features include Wi-Fi, VoLTE, Glonass, NFC and USB Type-C port.

Xiaomi Mi 5’s India pricing is pretty close to the Chinese pricing of 2299 Yuan ($351). However, I am sure many would be disappointed to see that the Mi 5 Pro will not be released in the country, at least not at the moment.

Although Xiaomi Mi 5 was officially released back in February, it’s still hard to get hold of the device for the original price in China. This is mainly because, in the five flash sales for the Xiaomi Mi 5 in the past one month, not once did the phone last in stock for more a few minutes. Most of the times, especially the black version, was out of stock instantly.

This was naturally frustrating for a lot of fans in China who couldn’t get hold of the device via the traditional flash sale method. To solve this issue, Xiaomi’s Lei Jun revealed in the press conference yesterday that the company will significantly increase the production capacity of the Xiaomi Mi 5 in April.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship comes with a lot of powerful hardware such as Snapdragon 820 and 4-axis 16MP camera which could be why the company’s production capacity has been limited till now. But this news does come as a relief to all Xiaomi fans in the market. The Stable supply of the device would ensure that the phone is available at an affordable price everywhere.

Moreover, since Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of the Mi 5 in India tomorrow i.e. March 31, there needs to be enough stock to satisfy the demands of the Indian consumers as well. Given that Xiaomi smartphones get the same kind of powerful response from Indian fans like that in China, we can expect a high demand for the phone in the country. So, stocks need to be in plenty in both the places.

To remind you, till now, only the Xiaomi Mi 5 standard editions have gone on sale in China. The Mi 5 Pro edition with a ceramic back cover, faster clocked Snapdragon 820 chip and 4GB of RAM will go on sale in China on April 6, the company’s sixth anniversary.
