Xiaomi released an Exclusive Edition of the Mi 5 dubbed Mi 5 Pro which comes only in Ceramic Black color  just after the release of the Mi 5 early this year. The Ceramic Black edition comes top among its contemporaries not only in the massive 128GB storage size it adopts, but also in its body design. Although it comes in the same design as the other versions, its own body was manufactured from ceramic, giving it a sleek, gentle but beautiful look.

However, seems Xiaomi may have discontinued production of the Ceramic black top end version as the device is no longer available on Xiaomi’s official online shop, mi.com. Only the version with black all-glass body is available for purchase by buyers.

This could be an indication that the tech giant has discontinued production of the flagship completely. Xiaomi had omitted using the Ceramic material on the recently launched Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus, citing production cost and speed. Xiaomi’s CEO had hinted during the Mi 5S launch that the ceramic material comes in more expensive than metal or plastic and takes more time to mass produce. Thus, it is likely the innovative start-up is parting ways with its Mi 5 Pro Exclusive version. Another reason could be that its price tag at 2499 Yuan is higher than the  2299 Yuan ($345) price tag for the high-end 128GB version of the latest Mi 5S.

I have received numerous emails from readers asking about the gold version of the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship. Now, we finally have a date! Xiaomi has just announced that the Xiaomi Mi 5 Gold Edition will go on sale from April 29, 10AM. This will be the first time this particular color is being made available for the device. Fans had to wait long (around 2 months), but finally, their patience has paid off.

According to the official website, the Mi 5 Gold Edition will come in standard and high versions. This also means that the gold version will feature 3D glass and not ceramic. Not surprising, since even the recently announced Mi 5 Pro White version comes with a glass back. So, the Mi 5 Pro is still limited to two colors at the moment, white and black.

The standard version of the Xiaomi Mi 5 Gold Edition will come with Snapdragon 820 clocked at 1.8GHz, Adreno 530 @ 510MHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB UFS 2.0 storage and front facing fingerprint sensor. The phone retails for 1999 Yuan ($308). The high version features an overclocked Snapdragon 820 @ 2.15GHz and Adreno 510 @ 624MHz, 64GB storage but retains the 3GB RAM on board. This particular edition retails for 2299 Yuan ($354). The Mi 5 Pro version increases the RAM and storage to 4GB and 128GB respectively. And this particular model retails for $416. But there are only two colors available, white and black.

The newly announced Mi 5 Pro white and Mi 5 Gold editions will go on sale on the April 29 flash sale. In case you are wondering, since the Mi 5 Pro white comes with a 3D glass body, the price will be lower than the black edition. This particular model will retail for 2599 Yuan i.e. around $400.

To sum up, Xiaomi is now offering the Mi 5 Pro at four different price points. The standard ($308) and high ($354) version will be available in black, white, purple and gold colors.

Xiaomi conducted the fourth flash sale for the Xiaomi Mi 5 today at 10:00 AM in China and guess what, the phone yet again went out of stock almost instantly. As usual, the black version of the Mi 5 was the first one to go out of stock, soon followed by the white version. So, if you were even a few minutes late to the flash sale, you would have come out disappointed.

Once again, only the standard 1999 Yuan and 2299 Yuan versions of the Xiaomi Mi 5 were made available for the flash sale today. Given that these are the cheaper models, they are even more popular among customers. In case, you are wondering about the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro version, you will soon be able to purchase it in China.

According to a statement made by Xiaomi’s President Lin Bin, you should be able to purchase the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro edition sometime in April, during the company’s anniversary celebration sale. However, it would still most likely be offered via the flash sale model.

So, there’s still no guarantee of getting the Mi 5 Pro anytime soon, unless you are fast and a bit lucky. As for those who have ordered the Pro version via third party sellers, this could be good news as finally, the first batch of the devices could start shipping soon.

The next flash sale of the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be held on March 29, i.e. next Tuesday. Still, only the standard and high version of the Mi 5 are going to be made available for sale.

And as expected, the phone was sold out pretty quickly. So, despite the company’s efforts to stock up the device in plenty, it looks like users will still have a hard time getting hold of the Mi 5.

The company didn’t officially announce how soon the flash sale got over, nor did it reveal the number of Xiaomi Mi 5 units that were offered for sale today. But hopefully, we can expect these details soon. As for today’s sale, the Xiaomi Mi 5 3GB RAM + 32GB / 64GB storage editions were made available for purchase in China. The Mi 5 Pro with 128GB storage, ceramic body and 4GB RAM was still not available today. In fact, the company is yet to reveal a sale day for this special edition model.

The next flash sale is exactly a week after, on March 8 at 10 AM Beijing time. It is said that this could be an open sale, but we are not yet sure about it. Anyways, even if its open sale, don’t expect the stocks to last long as there are millions of users who are still looking to grab the device.

As for the international customers, you may have to wait for some more time for the Mi 5 to reach your market.

Xiaomi announced the Mi 5 flagship yesterday. Its an amazing value for money smartphone, featuring powerful specs, all at an impressive price tag of less than $300. While the Mi 5 will first go on sale in China only, fans from other markets can also get hold of this device via third party retailers. Like expected, even Giztop has made the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship available for pre-order on its website. So, even users outside of China can purchase the device.

As always, the pricing is higher than the retail price of the Mi 5. You can get the base version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage from $399 on the website. There are three colors available for pre-order, namely white, black and gold.

If you are looking to get hold of the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM version, you will have to shell out $100 more for its pre-order. This version is available in three colors as well and will cost you $499 in all for pre-order. Finally, the top end version, namely the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro with a faster chipset, and larger 128GB storage can be pre-ordered for $599.

The first batch of Xiaomi Mi 5 units is expected to ship in March. The order shipping dates will be based on the rank of your order. Early orders will get their shipments in the first batch itself.

Specs wise, the Mi 5 turns out to be a powerful flagship. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset on board with 3GB / 4GB RAM options depending on the variants mentioned above.
