Xiaomi doesn’t officially sell its products in Japan but somehow, the products find their way into Japan just the same way they do enter other markets where Xiaomi is yet to officially launch. In this same manner, a set of pictures of the Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition being sold in Japan has surfaced on the internet. Not that selling we have an issue with Xiaomi products being sold in Japan but often times they usually come with an astronomically high price tag, at least the ones we have seen. In this case, the Mi 6 Ceramic Edition carries a price tag of 64,800 Yen which is equivalent to 3918 Yuan (~$587) at the current exchange rate.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic version is the top-most model in the Mi 6 range. Apart from coming with a ceramic glass body, it is available in 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version only. The device also has a 18K gold-plated camera ring which adds to the already beautiful design, coupled with the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor as well as a dual-lens camera at the rear it features. Despite all these features, it comes with a 2999 Yuan (~$435) price tag which means it sells for over 1000 yuan higher in Japan.

Earlier this year, the Mi Mix was found in a second-hand store in Tokyo that specializes in the importation of devices, with the 6GB RAM variant selling for 109,800 Yen, roughly ¥6700 ($974). That was way above the official retail price of 3999 Yuan (~$581) for the 6GB+256GB. Also, about three months back, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Hatsune Miku Edition was discovered in a retail shop in Japan with a price tag of  49,800 Yen which is about 3,066 Yuan. while the device launched with a 1,299 Yuan ($189) price tag. Even online retailers ships Xiaomi product overseas at costs that are sometimes way higher than their official prices in China.

All these, perhaps, underscores the importance for Xiaomi to diversify its sales dragnet outside China and other regions where it presently sells its products officially. Lei Jun noted this need when he shared details of the Mi Powerbank 10,000mAh currently priced at 79 Yuan ($12) in China being sold for as high as 1,500 Yuan ($224) in New Zealand.

Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship phone has been selling in the home country of China since a few weeks. In its first flash sale, the Xiaomi Mi 6 units were sold out in a few seconds. Today at 10 AM in China, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition went on sale through its official site with a pricing of 2,999 Yuan ($435). Like the standard edition, the special edition ceramic model also sold out quickly.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition is now listed as out of stock on the official website of the company. When Xiaomi Mi 6 was made available for purchase in China, the company only made available only the regular Black color variant with glass-clad rear. However, the Ceramic Edition was listed for purchase for the first time today.

It is not known as to when will Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition go on sale next time. If Xiaomi is not facing any production problems, the Ceramic variant may become available on sale soon. The Ceramic Edition not only features a premium ceramic back panel but also it has gold rims of 18-kart around the rear-facing twin cameras. The Ceramic Edition has the same internal specs as the regular model.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition has a 5.15-inch screen that produces a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It is driven by Snapdragon 835 and 6GB of RAM. The native storage of the phone is 128 GB. There is no microSD card slot on the device.

Its dual camera module includes a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens coupled with a12-megapixel telephoto lens that provides 2x lossless zoom.  The front-facing camera of the Mi 6 is 8-megapixel. It also features a front-facing fingerprint reader. It is packed with a 3,350mAh with fast charge support.

In a recent interview, Wang Xiang, the Vice President of Xiaomi confirmed that the company will not be launching its Mi 6 flagship phone in regions like the U.S, Europe and India. Buying it through Chinese reseller will require customers to pay more in the form of shipping and import taxes. Also, the Xiaomi Mi 6 purchased through Chinese reseller will not support all the 4G LTE networks in the U.S.

This is obviously due to the limited quantity that is available.

Despite the premium build and well-studded hardware, the Mi 6 ceramic version is priced at 2999 Yuan (~$435). If you compare it with the price of the standard versions of the Mi 6 which are priced at 2499 Yuan and 2899 Yuan for the 64GB and 128GB variants respectively, you’ll agree the Mi 6 still remains a cheap flagship. Of course, you’ll definitely not get it at that amount outside China as third-party retailers will likely sell it for up to $100 more and even higher. That is if it becomes available in reasonable quantity to enable it to ship outside China. We expect the Ceramic version to be instantly sold out tomorrow.

When Xiaomi took the wraps off the Mi 6, it was announced that it would have a high-end ceramic version. It has been a few weeks since the Mi 6 went on sale and the ceramic version is still not available.

The main reason for the unavailability of the ceramic version is said to be due to the low capacity of ceramic CNC machining. In addition to that, an insider revealed that the Snapdragon 835 processor is still in short supply.

A recent TENAA listing of the Xiaomi Mi 6 appears to be that of the ceramic edition and hints at it being available in multiple colors. The reason we believe it is the ceramic version is because the images on TENAA show the phone with a reflective body. The reflective back is most likely ceramic, plus it even appears to be curvier.

We can’t tell if it is the light bouncing off the surface that gives it that effect or the ceramic version truly has more curves. The image also shows a China Mobile branding on the back. We have added the images of the new listing and the one before the launch to show you what we are talking about.

The colors options listed for the phone are gold, gray, silver, white, black, pink, champagne gold, frosted black, dark gray, cherry blossom, and blue. That’s a lot of colors for a phone said to be only available in limited quantities. It is highly likely that all the colors won’t be available at once and may instead be introduced as time goes on. The rest of the specifications are the same with that of the standard edition.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 was announced last week and is scheduled to go on sale tomorrow. Launched in blue, black, silver and a special ceramic edition, pricing starts at ¥2499 ($363) and goes up to ¥2999 ($435).

The Mi 6 Ceramic Edition is the most expensive and comes with 128GB of storage and priced at 2999 yuan ($435). It is sad no one will be able to get their hands on one tomorrow. Reports from early this morning say only the jet black variant will be available for purchase.

Analyst Pan Jiutang in a Weibo post said that Xiaomi’s plan was to release the ceramic edition tomorrow but issues at their factory has prompted them to postpone it. According to him, the new release date for the ceramic version should be May 10.

Asides the Mi 6 Ceramic Edition not going on sale tomorrow, the jet black version is also reported to be insufficient. Only 80,000 units are said to be available for the first round of sales tomorrow. The limited quantities available compared to the high demand will result in third party resellers raising the price of the phone higher than normal.

The Mi 6 comes with a sleek design which is attractive, regardless of the colour it comes with. But we all have our personal likeness for certain colours and Xiaomi took that into consideration in making the Mi 6 available in other colour options other than the Rose gold, Gold, Matte Black options we are accustomed to.

As you would have noticed, the Xiaomi Mi 6 comes with a glass body but it still has a metal fuselage manufactured from stainless steel. It has a body curved on all sides both at the front and back, thus eliminating much of the bezels at the side of the displays leaving an ultra-thin bezel at the sides. There is a large bezel at the top and bottom edges of the device. The bottom bezel houses the underglass ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which first made its debut on the Xiaomi Mi 5S. The fingerprint sensor also doubles as the home button. The edges are also well chamfered and this along with the curvature at the back makes for an easy grip.

The Mi 6 comes with a splash proof body and does not have a port for the 3.5mm audio jack. Xiaomi took that off and instead included a USB Type-C port which would also be used for earphones in addition to charging and data transfer. One unique feature on the Mi 6 is the dual 12MP main + 12MP telephoto camera setup that the smartphone features at the rear. The camera samples shot by the dual cameras are just amazing.

There is doubtfully anything that isn’t amazing on the Mi 6 bearing in mind that it is powered by a ferocious Snapdragon 835 chip backed by a massive 6GB of RAM.
