The smartphone indeed lived up to the hype that has kept the rumour mills buzzing all this while. While we await the release of the itinerary for the global launch of the models, here are a couple of hands-on pictures of the Mi 8 as well as the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-194262" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer" width="1280" height="851" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_10402-1024x681.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mi 8 and Mi 8SE basically feature the same design but the sizes and screen ratio are slightly different from each other. The trio equally present with the notch design up at the display. The notch is similar to what we have on the iPhone X. The wideness of the cut out gave the device an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. As a reminder, the display is a 6.12-inch Super AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels. and it delivers a screen-to-body ratio of 86.12 percent. The screen is enabled with features like DCI-P3 color gamut, 60000:1 contrast ratio, up to 600nits brightness, HDR support, Eye protection mode, and Always-On Display.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0949.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-194267" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0949.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8" width="900" height="598" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0949.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0949-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0949-768x510.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0954.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-194269" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0954.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8" width="900" height="598" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0954.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0954-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0954-768x510.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0953.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-194268" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0953.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8" width="900" height="598" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0953.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0953-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSC_0953-768x510.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></a></p>
<p>The rear design is also similar to the iPhone X, taking into account the vertically stacked dual rear camera located at the top corner. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back. The Mi 8 flagship continues the glass back panel which the Mi 6 featured. In this case, it utilises a 2.5D glass panel while the mid frame is made from metal with a sleek finish. In the case of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, it features a translucent glass back which shows the internal components in a beautiful way.</p>

<p>There is no fingerprint sensor at the back instead, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition has an in-screen fingerprint reader that enables users to unlock the phone simply touch and scan fingerprint sensor embedded that is embedded in its display. Xiaomi claims that since the display of the phone is equipped with a highly sensitive pressure sensor, it can instantly scan and unlock the phone by touching on the screen gently. Hence, a user does not require to press harder on the screen to unlock it.</p>

Xiaomi earlier this week revealed the launch date and since then, the rumour mill has continued to rattle with details of the model. Earlier on, we stumbled on a couple of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/05/22/xiaomi-mi-8-real-pictures-leak-showcasing-a-unique-transparent-glass-back-panel/">leaked hands-on pictures of the Mi 8</a>. Right now, we happen to have laid our hands on the Mi 8 hands-on video.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-transparent.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-192684" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-transparent.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8" width="570" height="395" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-transparent.jpg 570w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-transparent-300x208.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px" /></a></p>
<p>From the look of things, the pictures purported to be those of the Mi 8 was gotten from the hands-on video. The short video reveals no further details of its design but once again, it reiterates the presence of a transparent glass back panel on the device. The front view aligns with the design of the leaked front panel which revealed the Mi 8 will come with a notch design on its display. Unfortunately, we can&#8217;t make out the bezel on the lower edge as a result of the video&#8217;s clarity but we can see if there is a physical home button.</p>

<p>Much of our admiration of the design lies in the rear panel. The device has a glass back panel but interestingly, it is a transparent glass panel which shows the internal components. We could make out the Snapdragon chipset on the motherboard, with Qualcomm’s logo printed on it. The device is also shown to pack a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup placed at the upper left corner just like the Mi Mix 2s. The Mi logo is also engraved on the lower half of the rear glass panel. As far as the specifications go, the Mi 8 packs a 6.01-inch OLED display with 3D facial recognition. The device will also be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset and will get its juice from a 4000mAh battery, among other features.</p>

The company is expected to announce a couple of products which could include the Mi Max 3 and Mi Band 3. Ahead of the launch, we may have just set our eyes on the real pictures of the Xiaomi Mi 8.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-192447" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi mi 8 pictures" width="690" height="1006" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-206x300.jpg 206w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>The pictures purported to be those of the Mi 8 appeared on China&#8217;s Weibo and they show the device in all its glory captured from the front and back. The front view aligns with the design of the leaked front panel which revealed the Mi 8 will come with a notch design on its display. The rear panel is where we find much of the admiration. The device has a glass back panel but interestingly, it is a transparent glass panel which shows the internal panel. We could make out the Snapdragon chipset on the motherboard, with Qualcomm&#8217;s logo printed on it. The device is also shown to pack a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup tilted to the upper left corner. However, we can&#8217;t say for sure if the pictures are really those of the Mi 8.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-192448" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi Mi 8 pictures" width="690" height="901" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-2.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/xiaomi-mi-8-2-230x300.jpg 230w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>

<p>The Mi 8 is expected to sport a 6.01-inch OLED display with 3D facial recognition. The device will also be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset and will get its juice from a 4000mAh battery. The glass panel also throws up the possibility of the Mi 8 packing a wireless charging technology. There are also speculations that the device will come with under display fingerprint scanner but that isn&#8217;t certain.</p>
