Just like 5G is touted as the new generation of network standards, Wi-Fi 6 can be described as the next-generation standard in Wi-Fi technology, upgrading from the 3.5Gbps speed offered by Wi-Fi 5 to a whopping 9.6Gbps.

Xiaomi says the AIoT antenna offers dual-frequency support and delivers up to 150Mbps speeds for IoT devices.

On top of that, it adopts OFDMA technology (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) that enables the dispatch of data to multiple terminal devices using just one transmission.

Routers that do not support OFDMA, on the other hand, use multiple transmissions for sending data, making them less efficient. Note that the terminal device must support OFDMA too.

Xiaomi had recently unveiled a new Wi-Fi router in China, boosting its AIoT portfolio (artificial intelligence of things). It carried the model number AX3600 and offered a great value through its specifications and performance for the price it was sold at. However, since its first launch earlier this morning (28th February 2020), the device has sold out which has caused many anticipating customers to show their disappointment online.

To address the mass dissatisfaction, the General Manager of Xiaomi Group, Liu Xinyu took to Weibo to share the reason for the limited stock. On the Chinese microblogging website, the company’s senior executive stated that the reason for the limited initial stock was the recent Coronavirus outbreak. According to Liu, it is difficult to keep up with demand since the Government had enforced a factory shutdown previously, making it harder to resume work now.

As of right now, Xiaomi is facing issues with various suppliers and other outlets at different levels. The General Manager has assured that stocks will be replenished and sales will start again sometime next month. Currently, no official date for the second sale has been officially announced but Liu Xinyu mentioned that future date will be revealed soon.

For those unaware, the new AX3600 Wi-Fi router from Xiaomi is equipped with Qualcomm’s latest IPQ8071A 6-core chip. Generally, high end routers arrive with 28nm process chips, however, the new chip from Qualcomm is made from a 14nm process.

This is in line with the chipmaker’s latest generation of router chips that also support WiFi 6 standards. Notably, one of the reasons for such a massive hype was the fact that Xiaomi claimed the router provided a network coverage area about two football fields large, which technically kills any possibilities of dead zones in a typical house.

The new WiFi standard delivers a fast network with low latency. According to the details the device’s theoretical dual-frequency concurrent rate is up to 2976Mbps. It also uses OFDMA technology which allows users to send data for multiple terminal devices at the same time in one transmission. In this regard, the transmission is more efficient. The Mi AIoT Router also comes with MU-MIMO technology that allows multiple antennas of the router to serve multiple devices at the same time, making the Internet smoother.

These features are in addition to the latest WiFi 6 features which includes optimized power consumption and wider coverage capabilities. It also brings support for multi high-speed concurrent connections. In other words, the connection is stronger with a wider range and can better support multiple connections at the same time.
