Xiaomi will be releasing the Mi Smart Band 5 for the global market on July 15 as a successor to the Mi Band 4. The Mi Band 5 definitely has a tall three to climb going by the performance of the Band 4. Xiaomi has taken to Twitter to brag about the Mi Band 4’s sales feat.

According to Canalys wearable band shipment estimates that is referenced by the tweet, the Mi Band 4 is the best-selling wearable band worldwide in the period ranging from Q3 2019 to Q1 2020.

Xiaomi’s smart band have often enjoyed huge market successes right from the original Mi Band. The Mi Band 2 released in 2016 was also another top-selling model. The same thing applies to the Mi Band 3 and now the Band 4. The company had sold a million unit of the original Mi Band in just nine months. The Mi Band 2 achieved the same feat in just two months while the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 sold up to 1 million units in just 17. Just like old wine, it just kept getting better as the brand ages. The Mi Band 4 recorded up to 1 million units in sales in just 8 days!

OPPO just unveiled its first smart band in China and it looks awesome. It comes with all the features you would expect from a smart band in 2020, yet it carries a very affordable price. OPPO just debuted in the smart bands market and it already offers a complete device: but is the OPPO Band really the best you can choose from a mainstream smartphone manufacturer? While waiting for the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5, here is a specs comparison with its most interesting rivals: the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and the Realme Band.

Design and display

OPPO Band comes in two versions differing from each other for their design: a Sport version which comes with a more classic look including a TPU strap, and a Fashion version with an elegant metal ring. The fashion version looks definitely gorgeous and it is my favorite one if we talk about the looks. The smart band also comes with a 2.5D curved front glass making it even more elegant. The OPPO Band is definitely the most elegant smart band of this trio, but you will find more third-party straps for the Xiaomi Mi Band 4.

Realme Band has a totally different look: it is very sportive and targeted at young people. OPPO Band is also equipped with the most advanced display. Not only it has a wider 1.1-inch panel and the AMOLED technology, but it also offers full DCI-P3 coverage. Right after, we got the OLED display of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. OPPO Band and Xiaomi Mi Band 4 are waterproof up to 5 atm (50m), while Realme Band is waterproof up to 1.5 mm. You can use all of them while swimming.

Software and features

OPPO Band is the winner even when it comes to the features, at least on the paper. Indeed, it is the only with a SpO2 sensor that can monitor the oxygen level in the blood. It can make one measurement per second for 8 hours before going out of charge. The OPPO Band also supports more sports modes: up to 12, including swimming and a long-distance running mode to burn more calories with less fatigue.

The smart band can even alert the user once it detects heart rate irregularities and sleep problems related to blood oxygen. There is also an NFC version of the OPPO Band with the support of mobile payments through AliPay. Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has a very accurate heart rate sensor and optional NFC, but it lacks a SpO2 sensor and it supports less sport modes. Realme Band 5 supports up to 9 sport modes, but it lacks NFC and a SpO2 sensor as well. Note that while OPPO Band and Realme Band are richer in terms of activity tracking inside their own software, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 supports a more convincing companion app (Xiaomi Mi Fit).

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has the longest battery life: it lasts up to 20 days on a single charge. The silver medal goes to the OPPO Band with 14 days, while Realme Band lasts just 9 days at max. OPPO Band and Xiaomi Mi Band 4 can be charged through a custom charger, while Realme Band does not need a charge: if you remove the strap, you can find a USB-A connector which can be plugged directly to the USB-A port of your PC, smartphone chargers, and more.

Price

OPPO Band went on sale in China with a price tag of $28/€25 in the standard sport version, $35/€31 in the Fashion version. You can actually find the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 at a similar price, while Realme Band is priced about €12. The OPPO Band wins this specs comparison because it comes with more features, awesome design, and a better display. The Realme Band takes the last place, but it costs half of the price of its two rivals. However, we believe it is better to spend something more to get something better unless you do not care about the additional features offered by the OPPO Band and the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. I am not a fan of the design of the Redmi Band. It has a completely flat glass above the display, it looks cheaper and more outdated. Further, with the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, you get more choices if you want to get a third-party strap. All of these smart bands are waterproof up to 5 atm, so you can use them while swimming.

Software and features

Despite they are very affordable, these wearables pack a lot of features in their software department. They can monitor several activities, they got an accurate heart rate sensor, and they can manage notifications from your phone. The most advanced one in terms of features is the Honor Band 5 since, besides the classic sensors and features you can find in all of these smart bands, it also features a SpO2 sensor to monitor blood oxygen saturation. A great feature for those who climb to high altitudes and those suffering from hypoxia, just to take two examples. Honor Band 5 also comes in a version with NFC connectivity for mobile payments, as well as Xiaomi Mi Band 4 in the Chinese market. Last but not least, Honor Band 5 supports more sports modes: you can monitor up to 10 activities, while Redmi Band and Xiaomi Mi Band 4 stop at 5 and 6, respectively. While Honor Band 5 offers more features, we think Xiaomi Mi Band 4 offers a better experience with the companion app thanks to Xiaomi Mi Fit.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 wins the battery life comparison as it can last up to 20 days on a single charge, while Redmi Band and Honor Band 5 last up to 14 days. But if you choose the Redmi Band, you get an important advantage: you can charge it without needing a custom charging adapter. In order to charge the Redmi Band, you just need to remove a part of the strap and connect the wearable to a USB-A port. A full charge of these smart bands takes about two hours.

Price

The Redmi Band is priced CNY 99 in China. Honor Band 5 has a starting price of CNY 190 (the variant with NFC costs CNY 220), while Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is priced CNY 169. The Redmi Band is the most affordable smart band of the trio, but it is inferior to both Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and Honor Band 5. The Honor Band 5 actually comes with more features, but the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has a companion app that we define more advanced. Which one should you choose? It mostly depends on your needs. If you do not need a SpO2 sensor and a device monitoring all those sports modes, then Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is the best wearable for you. Otherwise, go for the Honor Band 5. You should opt for the Redmi Band only if you want to save money.

Xiaomi had initially revealed plans to enter Japan in 2020 but the summer came early as the tech giant officially launched its first set of products in Japan on December 9. The products include the Mi Note 10 (CC9 Pro), MIJIA Rice Cooker which is already popular in Japan, Mi Power bank 3, Mi Travel Suitcase and then the Mi Smart Band 4.

While we are yet to receive any report about the sales of the Mi Note 10 Pro and Mijia Rice Cooker, the Mi Band 4 is said to be smashing records in the Asian country. The smart band was put on sale on Amazon Japan and according to data from Amazon, the Band 4 is the number one highest selling wearable in the activity tracker category. The ranking is based on sales data collected by Amazon and since it has not changed, it shows the smart band is still the top-selling activity tracker in Japan.

Xiaomi has released a new update for Mi Band 4 (also known as Mi Smart Band 4) in some markets. The update brings a new useful feature that adds screen off timeout function. The update also includes some other improvements.

The 1.0.7.04 update that has been released in Turkey and is soon arriving to other markets. The auto screen off timeout function makes it possible to set screen timeout between 5 and 10 seconds. The update also features new custom watchface options and the swim tracking function is also enhanced.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Specifications

The Mi Band 4 features a 0.95-inch AMOLED display that offers 120 x 240 pixels resolution. The screen of the Mi Band 4 is 39.9 percent larger than the processor Mi Band 3. The display is protected by 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass.

The device is backed by a 135mAh battery that can last for up 20 days on a single charge. For connectivity, it features Bluetooth 5.0. In China, the device comes with a microphone and NFC support. These features are not available in the Indian version of the smart band. On the Chinese edition, users have access to Xiao AI voice assistant that can be summoned through the device’s microphone.

The Mi Band 4 is 50ATM water-resistant device. It offers users with plenty of exercising and sports such as freestyle swimming, backstroke swimming, indoor running, outdoor running, cycling and so on. It is equipped with a heart rate sensor and it can be also used for sleep monitoring.

In China, the Mi Band 4 comes in non-NFC and NFC variants that are respectively priced at 169 Yuan (~$24) and 229 Yuan (~$32). It comes in wide range of strap color options like black, orange, violet and purple. In India, it is priced at Rs. 2,999 (~$42).

Xiaomi has unveiled a slew of Mi-branded products for its budding customers in Ukraine. Top of the pack is the Mi A3, Xiaomi’s mid-range model rocking stock Android Pie. The Mi A3 comes with a price of UAH5,999 ($235) for the 4GB+64GB version while the 4GB+128GB costs UAH6,999 ($275). Surprisingly, the price is cheaper than what it sells in Spain where the 64GB variant costs €249 ($280) and the 128GB is priced at €279 ($315). The phone will go on sale in Ukraine on July 31 via Mi Stores as well as other retail partner stores.

The features 6.1-inch HD+ display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, Snapdragon 665 processor, and a large 4030mAh battery. The triple cameras remain the same as the Mi CC9e with which it shares design. The camera setup consists of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. At the front, there is a 32MP selfie sensor.

Also, Xiaomi launched the budget Redmi 7A for the Ukrainian market. The Redmi 7A comes in at UAH2,999 ($120) for the 2GB+16GB model while the 2GB+32GB variant costs UAH3,299 ($130). Other products launched include the new Mi Band 4, Mi True Wireless Earphones, Mi True Wireless Earbuds, and Mi Handheld Vacuum Cleaner. The Mi Band 4 is priced at UAH1,299 ($50) while the Mi True Wireless Earbuds and Mi True Wireless Earphones cost UAH1,499 ($60) and UAD2,499 ($100), respectively. The Mi Handheld Vacuum Cleaner adopts a retail price of UAH7,499 ($295).

Xiaomi is yet to release details on the availability of the other products in Ukraine.

Xiaomi has announced a new feature for the Mi Band 4 NFC version. The NFC version can no unlock the MIJIA Smart Door Lock. As would be recalled, the MIJIA Smart Door lock was first released in February this year and comes with several smart unlock features that enable secure, key-less entry. One of the smart unlock features is the use of Near Field Communication (NFC). The Mi Band 4 NFC version has now received a new update that ushers in support for NFC unlock for the MIJIA Smart Door Lock.

Tho set up the feature, open the MIJIA app and locate the Band 4 under “Nearby devices” on the MIJIA app. Then click on the Band 4 icon and select “Door Card Management”. After pairing is complete, select “Open Card Now” and then wait for the  “Card Name” setting page to pop up and complete. A door card in the “Enabled” state appears.The device can also be set up from the Mi Fit app.

Apart from NFC, the MIJIA door lock supports fingerprint, password, Bluetooth, key and other six unlocking methods. The smart door lock comes with more than ten innovative security features to prevent forceful entry or use of fake biometrics to gain entry.

The Mi Band 4, or Mi Smart Band 4 if you like, hits the market with an upgraded design over its predecessor. For the first time, Xiaomi is using a colour AMOLED display for the smart band and it looks beautiful. The screen size is said to be 39.9% bigger than its predecessor. There’s also 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass protection on top of the display. The Band 4 screen isn’t as curved as that of the Band 3 and this should offer better protection from scratches. Towards the end of 2018, Xiaomi had released new packaging for the Mi Band 3. The Band 4 will be using the new attractive packaging box from inception. Inside the box, you get the Band 4, a rubber strap as well as the charging cable.

Talking of charging, the Mi Band 4 cannot be charged with the USB cable of any of the previous models. It comes with a redesign such that the entire pebble-shaped device will sit entirely inside the charging housing with the charging point at the bottom and not on the side. On the internals, the Mi Band 4 comes with several watch faces with a couple of them pre-installed but others, you can download from the Mi Fit app on a smartphone when the device is paired.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 also comes in two versions with NFC being the only distinguishing feature between the two. The device also comes with water resistance up to a depth of 5ATM (50 meters. There is also an upgraded 6-axis high-precision sensor to intelligently recognize different type of swimming strokes including Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley. It also supports 6 different sport modes like indoor running, outdoor running, exercise, swimming, cycling, and walking. There are also the regulars; sleep tracking, heart rate monitor, GPS etc.

The design of Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is similar to Xiaomi Mi Band 3, including the display and the wrist strap.

With the bigger display and higher resolution ratio, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 can show more details. What’s more, the display of Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is brighter than Mi Band 3, when I play outdoor games, I can see the details showing on the display clearly.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is built-in 77 themes, such as Overwatch, Ali the fox, Luo Xiaohei and so on.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 mainly provides the function of notification, swiping cards and sports health. All functions need to be used by Mi Fit.

The notification feature consists of calls, message, reminders and other frequently-used applications. Users can choose whether or not to reply the calls by Xiaomi Mi Band 4.

For me, I turn on the notification of calls and some applications. This feature is easy for me to not miss the important calls.

I have not always turned on the heart rate monitoring feature because of the high power consumption, which will reduce the battery life.

As the bigger and color display, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is fueled by 125mAh battery, which is better than predecessors. And the weight of monitor is 10.7g, which is heavier than Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

In addition, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and Xiaomi Mi Band 3 can use the same wrist strap, but they can’t use the same charger.

Although the charging contact has been placed at the rear side of the monitor in the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, it still needs to take out the monitor to charge.

While we look forward to the June 11 launch of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, the wearable device is already available for interested buyers to pre-order on AliExpress. The device is listed by a third-party retailer known as Mr. Carl and it bears a $49.99 price tag with free shipping.

The listing did specify that the variant on offer is the standard (non-NFC) version with a black rubber strap. The NFC version will likely not be released at the same time as the standard version, going by the Band 3’s launch.

We must point out, though, that since the device will be launched in China first, what will be shipped will be the China version but we doubt if there is any major difference with the model that will eventually be released overseas in India, Europe and elsewhere outside China. Also, the shipping date is not certain as it is dependent on when Xiaomi decides to start selling the Band 4 in China after the launch. The Mi band 4 is already confirmed to launch on June 11 in China. The Mi Band 4 is the fourth-generation smart wearable from Xiaomi. The device will take over from the M Band 3 that was released last year along with the Mi 8 series. Although the Band 4 wasn’t launched along with the Mi 9 models, the device is looking like what will be worth the long wait.

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has taken the veil off the actual design of the Mi Band 4. Lei shared a pre-launch poster promoting the launch date and the poster contains renders of the Band 4. The renders show the Mi Band 4 will come with a similar design with the Band 3 but the display is not as curved as that of the Band 3. However, Lei Jun hints that the device will come with extremely big upgrades. One of the upgrades that would be coming on the Band 4, he says, is a bigger screen. He disclosed the screen is about 39.9% bigger than that of the Band 3. The Mi Band 4 is also confirmed by the Xiaomi’s CEO to have a colour display with more than 16000 color pixels. The watch will also have several colourful personalized or custom watch faces. The posters show several MI Band 4 renders, each having a different watch face.

Despite the switch to a colour display which would be a first for the Mi Band series, the device is likely going to cram a more durable battery. Xiaomi’s official had tipped the wearable device to come with not only a long-lasting battery but also more features.

The Mi Band 4 is expected to feature a colour OLED screen and will come in two models, one having NFC onboard. The device is said to feature a 135mh battery, bigger than the 110mAh onboard the Mi Band 3.

Xiaomi‘s Mi Band is one of its most popular products to date with the affordable, durable and features-filled Mi Band 2 contributing to the popularity. The Band 2 got a fitting upgrade last year, giving birth to the Band 3. This year, Xiaomi is expected to launch the Mi Band 4 and going by last year’s Band 3 launch, the wearable device should have been released by now. While we await official word on the Mi Band 4, a couple of leaks have appeared online suggesting some of the upgrades that would accompany the device.

A couple of leaked photos of a device said to be the Mi Band 4 has appeared online showing the design and reaffirming the presence of coloured display onboard the Band 4. The design of the device could easily be passed for the Mi Band 3 except for the coloured display.

Earlier leaks, however, show that the Band 4 will have some design changes from the previous iteration. One of such features is an upgrade of the battery capacity which is bumped up from a 110mAh cell to a 135mAh cell. Also, you won’t need to dismantle the device from the housing when it is to be charged. This promises to be an impressive improvement considering the previous models have a charging system that requires a dismantle before it can be charged. 

Recently, the Mi Band 4 was reported to have received Bluetooth certification. The device is confirmed to arrive in two models with model numbers XMSH08HM and XMSH07HM.  One of the models will come with NFC just like the Mi Band 3. Both models will, however, have support for Bluetooth 5.0 protocol. The appearance of the Band 4 on NCC’s website gave us our first official look at the design and it is no different from this leaked model.

We await official words from Xiaomi about the Band 4. We’ll keep you posted when something new drops.

Xiaomi is the world’s second largest wearable maker after Apple. The Chinese electronics maker shipped more than 10 million Mi Band 3 units in less than seven months since its launch. Xiaomi is continually improving its portfolio and is now expected to launch the fourth generation Mi Band soon. Various leaks and reports have already revealed most of its specifications and features. It recently appeared on Bluetooth SIG uncovering almost every hardware detail.

Now a few more details have emerged in a new leak. According to the leak, Mi Band 4 will ditch the monochrome display and will come with a colored screen featuring a more attractive UI. To withstand the colored display power requirements, Mi Band 4 will see a 135 mAh battery instead of 110 mAh on Mi Band 3. The new fitness band will come with Bluetooth 5.0 for improved connectivity across multiple devices. It is a significant upgrade over the Mi Band 3 which uses Bluetooth 4.2.

The Mi Band 4 will come in two different versions – one with NFC bearing model number XMSH08HM and the standard non-NFC version with model number XMSH07HM. Both bands will support Bluetooth 5.0 having better power efficiency, greater range, and stronger connection.

It will come with an improved “Heart Rate Monitoring” system. Mi Band 4 NFC version is expected for the price of 499 Yuan (~$72) whereas the standard version will remain between 200-300 Yuan (~$28-$43). Launch detail is not available at the moment.
