There is no indication as to when that will happen but the Mi Band 6 has started to feature in leaks. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-367408" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi band 6" width="496" height="527" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6.jpg 496w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-282x300.jpg 282w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-395x420.jpg 395w" sizes="(max-width: 496px) 100vw, 496px" /></a></p>
<p>A <a href="https://geekdoing.com/threads/mi-band-6-known-features.2683/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Geekdoing</a> forum user MagicalUnicorn has discovered several details on the Zepp app said to be for the Mi Band 6. The Zepp app is Huami&#8217;s app for the Amazfit and Zepp smartwatch/fitness band lineup. As you may already know, the Mi Band lineup is manufactured by Huami. The company last year launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/18/amazfit-band-5-launches-as-an-upgraded-and-more-expensive-mi-band-5/">Amazfit Band 5</a>, an <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-band-5">Mi Band 5</a> with some upgrades. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-367409" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 6" width="1024" height="545" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2-300x160.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2-768x409.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2-696x370.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-2-789x420.jpg 789w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mi band 6 is said to bear the codename “Pangu” and will not only come with the same useful features as its predecessor, but it will also bring on board several new features as well as visual improvements.</p>
<p>The device comes with the model numbers XMSH16HM and may likely have NFC and non-NFC versions for the Chinese and global markets. The Zepp app source code revealed data shows that the Mi Band 6 will come with support for Alexa and a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen measurement.</p>
<p>In addition, the Mi Band 6 is also expected to come with built-in GPS but there are conflicting commands found in the firmware code which disputes this. The leaked watch faces for the Band 6 have a higher resolution than those stored in the Mi Band 5, further suggesting that the fitness band may feature a larger display than the 1.1-inch screen found on the Mi Band 5.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-367410" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi band 6" width="1024" height="416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3-300x122.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3-768x312.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-3-696x283.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>Further, the leaker also discovered that there may be up to 30 activity modes on Band 6 as against 11 models on the Mi Band 5. Some of the new additions include dance, Zumba, cricket, basketball, and kickboxing.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-367411" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 6" width="660" height="550" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-4.jpg 660w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-4-300x250.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-6-4-504x420.jpg 504w" sizes="(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px" /></a></p>
<p>However, we must point out that these features may actually be for the Amazfit Band 6 since the Zepp app is for Amazfit/Zepp products. We already know the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/02/amazfit-band-6-gets-listed-on-aliexpress-mi-band-5-with-spo2-monitoring-amazon-alexa/">Amazfit Band 6 exists as early as August 2020</a> and that it will have some of the new features spotted on the code such as SpO2 and Alexa support. However, the Mi Band 6 may still share similar features with the Amazfit branded version.</p>
<p>It may still be too early to conclude as we are still several months away from the launch. The Mi Band 5 was launched in June 2020 and this year&#8217;s version may also come around that same period.</p>

<p>The Mi Band 5 is Xiaomi&#8217;s latest smart band which was released last year. The pictures posted by the fitness band user Michele Costa shows a completely burned-out and destroyed Mi Band 5. The user disclosed that the smart band exploded while it was being charged on a table. The user also hinted that he threw the device on the floor and stamped on it after it went up in flames. So it should be noted that some of the deformations noticed on the body was as a result of stepping on the device and not directly by the explosion.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-364332" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="640" height="1138" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-2-236x420.jpg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>

<p>We can&#8217;t say why the device went up in flames but we suspect a hardware issue must have resulted in the explosion. The victim claims the device was charged using the original charging cable that came with the device and a basic Mi 5V/1A charger. The Mi Band 5 which was launched as Mi Smart Band 5 also comes with a dedicated charging cable that attaches magnetically to the fitness tracker and utilizes a USB connector.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-364333" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3.jpg?x44794" alt="mi band 5" width="685" height="514" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3.jpg 685w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mi-band-5-3-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px" /></a></p>
<p>Costa claims to have contacted Xiaomi about the Mi Band 5 explosion and has also sent the wrecked device back to Amazon where it was purchased. There have been plenty of reports over the years of smartphones and other electronic devices exploding or catching on fire either through a hardware fault or random flaw, with the infamous Galaxy Note 7 battery defect issue costing Samsung an estimated US$17 billion in revenue. Xiaomi better start hoping this is a very isolated incident.</p>

<p>The XMSH10HM model number that has appeared on the database of BIS belongs to the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. Last year, Xiaomi launched the Mi Band 4 in China in June and it arrived in India in September. Its successor went official earlier this month in the homeland and now it could be arriving in multiple markets including India in the near future.</p>
<p>In 2018, Xiaomi India introduced the Mi Band 3 in the country in the month of September. Hence, there is a possibility that this year too the Mi Band 5 may break cover in the same month in India.</p>

The MiBand 5 which is expected to launch for the global market as Mi Smart Band 5 comes in a regular version as well as an NFC version. Unlike previous years, both the regular version and the NFC version were made available at the same time. Reports indicate that the Mi Band 5 NFC version was sold out rapidly after the sales opened. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-5-NFC-version.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-328153" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-5-NFC-version.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5 NFC version" width="600" height="334" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-5-NFC-version.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-5-NFC-version-300x167.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 arrived with a price tag of 189 Yuan (~$27) while the NFC version is priced at 229 Yuan (~$32). Apparently, most fans are willing to pay a little more to get the NFC version. The presence of NFC is the only difference between the two models. The NFC feature enables contactless payment supporting transportation card, AliPay and UnionPay in China. Outside China, there are rumours of the global variant coming with sport for Google pay and Amazon Alexa.</p>
<p>The Mi Band 5 NFC features a 1.1-inch AMOLED dynamic color display. The device also comes with support for a number of exercise modes now including cycling, jump rope, yoga, elliptical and rowing machine.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.04-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326984" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.04-PM.png?x44794" alt="Mi Band 5 featured" width="483" height="446" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.04-PM.png 483w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.04-PM-300x277.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.04-PM-455x420.png 455w" sizes="(max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px" /></a></p>
<p>The smart band equally features a new pressure assessment, breathing training, PAI index (Personal Activity Intelligence), women’s health tracking and remote shutter control. These features are all absent on the Mi Band 4 and are tailored towards improving our health and lifestyle. In addition, the new wrist band now supports 24-hour sleep monitoring and REM (Rapid eye movements) detection. There is also a new magnetic charging feature onboard.</p>

The new wearable comes with plenty of improvements and new features, including improved software and features thought to provide a better user experience. But in 2020 the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/11/xiaomi-mi-band-5-vs-mi-band-4-here-are-the-differences/">Mi Band 5</a> has a lot of rivals from other smartphone manufacturers. Since smart bands are currently a very important niche of the hi-tech world, we chose two of the most valid ones for a specs comparison with the new Mi Band 5. We are referring to the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/honor">Honor</a> Band 5 and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/realme">Realme</a> Band, both among the cheapest and most functional fitness tracker you can find out there.</p>

<h2></h2>
<h2>Design and display</h2>
<p>When it comes to the design, it is all a matter of taste. I personally prefer the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 due to its curved shape making it more attractive, in my honest opinion. But some may prefer the Realme Band because it is more similar to a bracelet since its display looks like an extension of the strap. Mi Band 5, Honor Band 5, and Realme Band are waterproof smart bands, but Realme Band is less waterproof than its rivals.</p>
<p>With the Realme Band, you can go up to 1.5 meters deep without damages (and it is enough for people who want to use it in the swimming pool), while Xiaomi Mi Band 5 and Honor Band 5 can go up to 50 meters deep. Xiaomi Mi Band 5 is very elegant, but Honor Band 5 and Realme Band are more compact. Mi Band 5 is bigger because it has a wider display with a 1.1-inch diagonal. And it is also the most attractive panel due to its quality and very interesting software features allowing the users to use all of its potentialities.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Software and features</h2>
<p>Xiaomi Mi Band 5 has the highest number of sports modes: it can monitor up to 11 different activities. On the other hand, Honor Band 5 offers 10 sports modes, but unlike the Mi Band 5, it sports a SpO2 sensor to monitor the oxygen level in the blood. Realme Band does not feature a SpO2 sensor as well. Mi Band 5 has a very accurate PPG sensor: unfortunately, we still did not test it, but we believe it is likely the most accurate since Xiaomi says it offers 50% more accuracy compared to the Mi Band 4.</p>
<p>The Mi Band 5 also supports animated watch face and third-party designs, which you can not get on its two opponents. Besides the SpO2 sensor (Honor Band 5 only), on these smart bands, you can find an accelerometer, a heart rate monitor, a barometer, and a gyroscope. There are variants of the Mi Band 5 and Honor Band 5 with NFC connectivity, while you do not get it with the Realme Band.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Battery</h2>
<p>Despite they provide more features, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 and Honor Band 5 offer a longer battery life than Realme Band: up to 14 days on a single charge. Realme Band has a 9 days battery life, but it offers an important advantage: it does not need an external charger since it includes a USB-A connector which can be directly plugged to a USB-A port. On the other hand, Mi Band 5 supports magnetic charging thanks to a pin placed on the rear side: you do not even need to remove the wearable from its strap in order to charge it. But it needs a custom charger (included in the box, naturally).</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Price</h2>
<p>Xiaomi Mi Band 5 is priced $26 in the base variant without NFC and $30 in its NFC version. It just launched in the Chinese market, in which it will be available to purchase starting from June 18. We still do not know what will be the price of the Mi Band 5 for the global market. Honor Band 5 has a listing price of $28, while Realme Band is priced just €12. Unless you need the SpO2 sensor, we recommend the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. But if you want to save money and you only need essential features, Realme Band is enough since it has accurate measurements and it does not lack common features.</p>

As usual, the big question on the lips of fans outside China is when will the smart band be released for the global market? <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> didn&#8217;t keep us in doubt for long as the company has disclosed via a tweet that the Mi Band 5 will launch next month. The tweet also reveals it will adopt the moniker Mi Smart Band 5. However, no specific date was mentioned. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-327094" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi.jpg?x44794" alt="Mi Smart Band 5" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/xiaomi-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mi Smart band 5 features a larger 1.1-inch AMOLED dynamic color display. The smart band sees several upgrades over the Mi Smart Band 4 such as an upgrade of the number of sports modes from just 6 on the Smart Band 4 to 11 on the Mi Smart Band 5. The new additional models include cycling, jump rope, yoga, elliptical and rowing machine.</p>

In addition, the smart band features seven (7) new features such as pressure assessment, breathing training, PAI index (Personal Activity Intelligence), women’s health tracking and remote shutter control. There is also support for 24-hour sleep monitoring and REM (Rapid eye movements) detection.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.39-PM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326986" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.39-PM.png?x44794" alt="v" width="481" height="424" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.39-PM.png 481w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.39-PM-300x264.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Screenshot-2020-06-11-at-12.03.39-PM-476x420.png 476w" sizes="(max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px" /></a></p>
<p>On the design aspect, the new smart wearable device utilises a magnetic snap-on charger design. The global variant is also expected to feature support for Amazon Alexa and Google Pay.</p>

The Mi Band 5 is the successor to the popular Mi Band 4 which raked in a lot of sales for the tech giant.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-327035" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5" width="558" height="558" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2.jpg 558w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-2-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px" /></a></p>
<p>As an upgrade, you may like to know all the new features that the new smart wearable brings with it. Here is a Xiaomi Mi Band 5 vs Mi Band 4 comparison table which outlines all the differences between both smart bands and the new features onboard the Mi Band 5.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-6.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-327049" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-6.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="399" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-6.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-6-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The most conspicuous difference between the Mi Band 5 and Mi Band 4 is the display size. The new fitness band sports a bigger 1.1-inch AMOLED dynamic color display as against 0.95-inch AMOLED screen on the Band 4. The number of exercise modes is also upgraded from just 6 on the Band 4 to 11 on the Mi Band 5. The new additional models include cycling, jump rope, yoga, elliptical and rowing machine.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-327047" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4.png?x44794" alt="mi band 5" width="600" height="433" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4-300x217.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4-324x235.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-4-582x420.png 582w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mi Band 5 also comes with over 100 theme sets while on the previous model there is an equally impressive 77 sets of themes. Both smart bands share the same ATM5 water resistance which means they can withstand being kept underwater up to a depth of 50m.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-5.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-327048" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-5.png?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="272" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-5.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-5-300x136.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Sadly, the standard Mi Band 5 version doesn&#8217;t support NFC. Just like the Mi Band 4, there is an NFC version which costs more than the standard version. The NFC version retains the same attributes as the Mi Band 4 NFC but it now gets support for UnionPay payment in addition to the others. There were rumours of the global variant coming with support for Amazon Alexa and Google Pay. We&#8217;ll have to wait for the global launch event to find out about that.</p>

Ahead of the launch, the smart band was earlier listed on Jingdong for pe-sale but the page didn&#8217;t show the price tag. However, a blogger has revealed a screenshot purportedly grabbed from Xiaomi&#8217;s self-operated store on Jingdong which shows the Mi Band 5 will retail for 189 yuan (~$27). If true, that is an amazing offer considering the upgraded design and features that have been revealed to feature on the smart band. For the avoidance of doubt, the store listing now shows ¥9999.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326861" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real.png?x44794" alt="Mi band 5" width="688" height="532" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real.png 688w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-300x232.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-543x420.png 543w" sizes="(max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px" /></a></p>
<p>A good deal of the features that would ship with the Mi Band 5 have already been officially outed. The smart band is said to feature seven major upgrades compared to the previous generation model. The upgrades include Dynamic Color Screen, a new magnetic charging, NFC UnionPay flash payment, remote control camera, professional sensor upgrade, 11 professional sports modes and a new Women Health mode. The fitness tracker will also come with more comprehensive heart rate sleep monitoring, built-in high-precision sensors, and can also process heart rate changes during exercise, providing more accurate data support for the wearer.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326863" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-3.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5" width="599" height="482" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-3.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-3-300x241.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-3-522x420.png 522w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of the design, the Xiaomi Band 5 official renders are already in the open, confirming its 20 per cent larger display. The next-gen Mi Band is said to pack a 1.2-inch display which is bigger than the 0.95-inch one on the Mi Band 4.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326862" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5" width="690" height="1022" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-2.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-2-203x300.jpg 203w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-band-5-real-2-284x420.jpg 284w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>In addition, the smart wearable will also feature support for Google Pay along with Amazon Alexa smart voice assistant on the global variant. The Chinese variant will have the company’s own XiaoAI Smart Voice Assistant. Expect to see the Mi Band 5 in four watch strap colours; Black, Green, Yellow, and Red.</p>
<p>P.S. The Mi Band 5 is already available to pre-order on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/10/xiaomi-mi-band-5-has-gone-up-for-pre-order-for-a-lowered-price-of-32-99-on-giztop/">Giztop</a> for just $32.99. If indeed the smart band will retail for $27 in China, then this is an amazing price, coupled with the fact that you get to be among the first persons to own the wearable.</p>

The smart wearable is expected to be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/01/mi-band-5-launch-11-june-china/">launched on June 11</a> ahead of Jingdong&#8217;s June 18 (618) shopping festival in China. Ahead of the launch, more details have emerged from leak land.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326270" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Mi band 5" width="768" height="768" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-1-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></p>
<p>A couple of leaked images appear to show several new features that would be on the Mi Band 5. One of the leaked images shows that the wrist band will have NFC on board. This feature will enable mobile contactless payments and may likely be on the standard variant and not a NFC-enabled variant like the Mi Band 4.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326272" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="768" height="768" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces2-1-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Further, the smart band will come with stress and breathing management features which are likely associated with the SpO2 sensor that is rumoured to ship with the Mi Band 5. The source also tips the band to come with a stress meter as well as breathing exercises to help you relax. Additionally, there will be a Do Not Disturb mode, which silences alarms for a limited time (e.g. 30, 60 or 120 minutes).<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-326271" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="768" height="768" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></p>
<p>As for the specs, the Mi Band 5 is expected to feature a larger 1.2-inch display which is bigger than the 0.95-inch screen on the Band 4. The Band may also come with custom Avengers-themed watch face which suggests the possibility of an Avengers limited edition. The watch is also said to come with support for Amazon Alexa.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll have to wait until the launch to confirm most of these features. You can read more detail on our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/02/xiaomi-mi-band-5-rumor-roundup-what-we-know-so-far/">Mi Band 5 rumour round-up article</a>.</p>

<h2>Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Rumor Roundup: Specs, Features, and Launch</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-324591" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765.png?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765-300x225.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1c950a7b02087bf4e0f6acca41bcef2a11dfcf76-e1590476305765-560x420.png 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h3>Design</h3>
<p><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-5-strap-variants.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5 strap variants" /></p>
<p>If leaks are to be believed, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will have a very futuristic design. According to a leaked image, it will sport a full borderless display with very narrow bezels. It will be like punch-hole displays found in the most modern smartphones, but instead of the front camera, the display will house a single button. The design you can see above would make the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 the first full borderless smart band ever released. The shape of the wearable is similar to the one of its predecessor Mi Band 4. But the photo above was not confirmed officially and earlier speculations suggested that the Mi Band 5 will have the same design as the Mi Band 4.</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE:</strong> The company has so far confirmed that the fitness tracker will come in four color options: Black, Green, Yellow, and Red. The color variants have been revealed in an official poster confirming the design. The display will have narrower bezels than Mi Band 4.</p>
<p><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mi-Bad-5-Leak-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 5" /></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Display</h3>
<p>The display of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 is said to be an OLED panel with a diagonal of 1.2 inches: bigger if compared to the Mi Band 4 which has a 0.95-inch display. In the above leaked unofficial image, you can clearly see a color display showing time, date, and remaining battery charge, as well as a central button that will be used to control the user interface. The display will support a lot of new watch faces. The display will be reportedly brighter and display more contrast.</p>
<p><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/mi-band-5-faces-1.jpg?x44794" /></p>
<p><strong>UPDATE</strong>: Xiaomi officially confirmed that the Mi Band 5 will come with a 20 percent larger display, which is in line with the reports claiming that the Mi Band 5 will have a 1.2-inch screen, slightly larger than the 0.95-inch display in the predecessor. A leaked image revealed that there will be an Avengers watch face available in the software.</p>

<h3>Specs &amp; Software</h3>
<p><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9345d688d43f879456b012446574b6f21ad53a87.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi" /></p>
<p>The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will have a lot of interesting features compared to other smart bands. It is supposed to come with NFC support and according to rumors, outside of China, it might support even Google Pay, unlike its predecessor. According to a leak, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will support various activity tracking modes including running, cycling, skipping, swimming, and more. Certain new modes will include yoga and indoor cycling, for a total of 11 different activity tracking modes.</p>
<p><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/80cb39dbb6fd5266ce6d5bcf1f772f2dd5073618.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi" /></p>
<p>A unique feature will be the support to Amazon Alexa smart voice assistant for those who use it outside of China, which will make the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 an IoT device. The wearable will reportedly support camera controls, which is likely in the form of taking images, videos, and more. Further, the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will include an accurate heart rate sensor and a SpO2 sensor to monitor the blood oxygen level. It will have additional features like menstrual cycle tracking and PAI, which stands for Personal Activity Intelligence (the same you can find on Amazfit wearables by Huami).</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE</strong>: according to the latest rumors, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will support Google Pay transactions in its global variants, thanks to the NFC connectivity. Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will launch with 7 major upgrades, including professional sensors. It is speculated to arrive with an enhanced SpO2 sensor, a dedicated sensor for measuring stress and breathing activity of the user, and 11 professional sports modes. While the global version will support Amazon Alexa, the Chinese edition will have the Xiao AI voice assistant on board. There will also be a women&#8217;s health mode and a remote control feature. Further, users will get a Do not disturb mode that will allow them to silence it for a set time period.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Battery</h3>
<p>Unfortunately, there is no info about the battery life and the battery capacity of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. But we do not believe that the battery life of the new wearable will be different from the one of its predecessor. The Mi Band 4 offers up to 20 days of battery life on a single charge, depending on the usage. There are several optional modes and settings (such as lift-to-view and continuous heart-rate monitoring) that make the battery life shorter.</p>
<p><strong>UPDATE</strong>: a teaser surfaced online just confirmed that Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will come with new magnetic charging technology. To charge previous smart bands from the Mi Band series, it was mandatory to remove the device from the strap. Thanks to the new technology, it is not anymore: this time the company is using a magnetic charging pin placed on the back on the device on which the user can stick the charger without removing the band from the strap. The magnetic charging pin is placed near the heart rate sensor. Thanks to this technology, putting the smart band on charge will become a lot quicker and more comfortable.</p>

Huami is one such company that deals in the former category and has historically been backed by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Xiaomi</a>, the smartphone manufacturer.</p>
<p>However, the company stated in an <span class="notranslate">annual strategic media communications</span> meeting today that it had not signed any exclusive deal or agreement with Xiaomi regarding the latter&#8217;s Mi Band lineup of smart wearables.</p>
<figure id="attachment_276843" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-276843" style="width: 660px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-276843 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/mi-band-4-watchfaces-4.png?x44794" alt="Huami Xiaomi Mi Band 4" width="660" height="487" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/mi-band-4-watchfaces-4.png 660w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/mi-band-4-watchfaces-4-300x221.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/mi-band-4-watchfaces-4-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/mi-band-4-watchfaces-4-569x420.png 569w" sizes="(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-276843" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi Mi Band 4</figcaption></figure>
<p>Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-mi-band-4/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mi Band 4</a> in China. Promptly after this, reports surfaced that suggested that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/20/huami-working-on-mi-band-5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huami was already working on the 5th installment</a> in the series. The CEO of Huami confirmed that both companies have been &#8220;co-working&#8221; on multiple projects in a partnership but are not signed under an exclusive deal to manufacture or develop Xiaomi wearable products.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/03/xiaomi-mi-10-pro-moniker-confirmed-by-xiaomi-president/">Buy Xiaomi Smart Rubik Cube for Just $24.99 from Giztop</a></strong></h6>
<p>Xiaomi Mi Band 4Huang Wang, the CEO also stated that there has been a misunderstanding of the cooperation between Huami and Xiaomi. To back this statement, he even mentioned that the two companies are preferred partners under the same conditions which favor both sides. This indicates a two-way choice between the two partner companies.</p>
<figure id="attachment_282205" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-282205" style="width: 735px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-282205 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Huami-Amazfit-GTS.png?x44794" alt="Huami Amazfit GTS" width="735" height="425" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Huami-Amazfit-GTS.png 735w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Huami-Amazfit-GTS-300x173.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Huami-Amazfit-GTS-696x402.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Huami-Amazfit-GTS-726x420.png 726w" sizes="(max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-282205" class="wp-caption-text">Huami Amazfit GTS</figcaption></figure>
<p>In other words, Huami has not been contracted by Xiaomi to develop the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mi-band-5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mi Band 5</a> but are collaborating due to extended partnership. The two companies are distinctly independent but collaborate often owing to healthy business relations. Notably, the Mi Band 4 lacked prominent feature like NFC and microphone support in its global versions so it will be interesting to see what improvements the collaboration brings to the latest Xiaomi&#8217;s smart wearable.</p>

<p>However, when Xiaomi launched it for the global market, customers sadly had to settle down with just the non-NFC variant. In order to bring the benefits of NFC to its global audience, Xiaomi is reportedly working on the Mi Band 5 which will support NFC both inside and outside of the Chinese domestic market.</p>
<p>In case you have been uninformed, the Mi Band 4 with NFC supports wireless payments, can be used as an identity card at a workplace and it could even replace metro or bus cards that are based on this technology.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-258770 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-2.png?x44794" alt="xiaomi mi band 4" width="720" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-2.png 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-2-300x200.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-2-696x464.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-2-630x420.png 630w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>Wang has confirmed that the work for the development of the upcoming Mi Band 5 fitness tracker has already started. He also revealed that the device could get launched sometime next year. He said: <em>&#8220;We do not have &#8211; we do not have a fixed time when we&#8217;re going to launch Mi-Band 5. But I would say that we have already started working on Mi-Band 5 with Xiaomi and it&#8217;s not going to take that long. So we just launched Mi-Band 4, but potentially toward the [Indecipherable] of next year, we may launch Mi-Band 5.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>The Xiaomi Mi Band series fitness trackers have been hugely popular because of its budget price tag and tons of features. When the Mi Band 4 went on sale in June this year, its sales hit the 1 million mark in just 8 days.</p>

<p>The Mi Band 4 comes with a 39.9% bigger display than its predecessor and is now using AMOLED color screen, which is protected by a 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass. It is water-resistant up to 5ATM (50 meters) and sports an upgraded 6-axis high-precision sensor to intelligently recognize different type of swimming strokes including Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley.</p>
<p>It can also track six different sport modes like indoor running, outdoor running, exercise, swimming, cycling, and walking. The device comes with support for Xiao AI voice assistant which can be used for controlling Xiaomi’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iot">IoT</a> products.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-258783 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-featured.png?x44794" alt="xiaomi mi band 4" width="720" height="405" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-featured.png 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-featured-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/xiaomi-mi-band-4-featured-696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>XiaoAi assistant comes up when you lift up the band, so lifting your wrist lets you play music, set the schedules. On top of that, you can even set all these to work with voice commands. With the NFC variant, it can also be used to make payments using WeChat Pay and Alipay, among others.</p>
<p>As for the pricing, the NFC model of the Mi Band 4 costs 229 yuan (~$33) while the standard variant is priced at 169 yuan (~$25). The device went on sale in China in June this year but the company has not revealed details about global availability.</p>
