During the launch of the Redmi Note 11 series a few days back, Redmi’s GM and Xiaomi President Lu Weibing had hinted that the tech giant was gearing up to open its record-setting 10,000th Mi Home store in China before the end of October. The 10,000th Mi Store has now been opened right on schedule.

The iconic Mi Home store adopts a unique architectural design that stands out in every sense. It is located in Shenzhen’s Happy Coast and covers an area of ​​more than 600 square meters. The tech giant will be giving the first 1000 buyers at the new store the chance to pay an additional 1 yuan and get the Redmi Buds 3 alongside their purchases. The company also hinted at plans to integrate the Mi Home store and after-sale service center in the future in order to bring the after-sales services closer to fans.

Lu Weibing also hinted at the Redmi Note 11 series launch that the company has already expanded the number of its brick and mortar stores to cover over 2,200 counties. This represents 80% of the entire counties in China. This is in keeping up with the company’s goal of opening at least a Mi Store in every of China’s counties.

The building itself adopts a modern architectural design while the product stands are designed with a futuristic concept. However, since the focus is going to be on the products on display, it utilises a minimalist approach of white and grey colour coating on all surfaces. The building showcases unique, edgy patterns and is constructed using eco-friendly materials. The new Mi Home is also equipped with special solar-powered charging stations as part of the brand’s effort to implement pro-environment measures.

Apart from products that are available in India, the home store is detailed to have the largest experience zone with a collection of over 200 experience products that are sold globally. In a bid to expand the offline presence, Xiaomi has opened up another Mi Home store in Wuhan China. It is the largest Mi Home store that is present in China. It features smart home demo zone of its wide range technology products. Xiaomi’s senior vice president Wang Xiang made a formal announcement about it via his official twitter handle. He even shared some pictures of the newly opened largest Mi Home store in Wuhan.

A couple of months ago, Xiaomi has accomplished its plan to open 100 Mi Home stores across China. Now, they have initiated a new program to bring 1000 Mi stores in China by the year 2020. As per Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the company is slated to open over 200 Mi retail stores by the end of this year. At present, there are stores all over in major cities of China like Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Zhuzhai, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Wuxi, Dongguan, Jinan, Dalian, Xiamen, Qingdao, Shenyang, and others.

The Mi stores allow customers to experience the Xioami products in the native environments. It gives you an overall high-end experience of the Xiaomi products such as Speakers, Home Cleaning products, mobile devices, etc. They offer a rich portfolio and allow customers to experience products in stores. Along with the experience zone, there’s also a sales counter which will enable users to buy the Xiaomi devices on the go. Xiaomi has added a robot vacuum cleaner to its range of smart home products. Over the past few weeks we reported that the company was working on a vacuum cleaner and a couple of hours ago, it was officially unveiled. The Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner comes a week after Xiaomi launched the Viomi Water Filter Kettle.

Technical Details

The vacuum cleaner uses a low-noise brush-less fan supplied by Japanese firm, NIDEC. The fan has a maximum pressure of 1800Pa which provides greater suction power when dealing with tough dirt.

Xiaomi’s Mi Robot Vacuum uses 3 dedicated processors: a quad-core processor from Allwinner, a STMicroelectronics ARM processor, and a Texas Instruments LDS image processor. The trio helps the vacuum cleaner receive data in real time from the 12 sensors (LDS, ultrasonic radar sensor, wall sensor and cliff sensor etc.). The Laser Distance Sensors provide a 360-degrees scanning (1800 times/second) similar to what you will find on a self-driving car.

The 5200mAh Li-ion built-in battery supplied by LG and Panasonic ensures that you get 2.5 hour cleaning time from a single charge.

Cleaning Details

The Mi Robot Vacuum will work with the Mi Home App. Owners will be able to set cleaning schedules, modify cleaning modes, and monitor cleaning process in real-time. You will be able to program it to clean the house right after you leave the house or before your arrival in case you are bringing home guests and you left a pet at home.

The main brush automatically adjusts its height to create a tight seal with the floor. There are also side brushes that extend to reach between gaps. While the vacuum cleaner works it maintains a precise 1 cm distance from the wall, so be rest assured that your beautiful vacuum cleaner won’t be getting any scratches.

The Mi Robot Vacuum seems to be only available in white. We have no problem with that but a black unit will be appreciated. The company also launched a virtual wall that creates an invisible barrier that the vacuum cleaner can’t go beyond. It will retail for 39 yuan ($6). So you can pick up a  bunch of these and add it to the Mi Robot’s 1699 Yuan ($254) price.

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is looking to open a second flagship store, which is beautifully named Mi Home, in Hong Kong even when Hong Kong’s retail sector is experiencing some sort of slowdown.

This was disclosed by the popular Vice-President Xiaomi Global, Hugo Barra at a product launch last week. Mr. Barra hinted that there was a “big chance” a second location would be added to its present store in Hong Kong.

Xiaomi opened its first Mi Home store in  Mong Kok, Hong Kong around this time last year, which also happened to be the first Mi Home store outside mainland China.

Mr. Barra, who joined Xiaomi from Google, also restated the plan while speaking to the South China Morning Post.

“Obviously we have to choose the locations very carefully. Retail is all about location and details,” he told the Post, adding that a date would be announced later.

“Suffice to say this (Mong Kok) location is such a huge hit that we think that the model is worth repeating.”

Barra, a former Google senior exec, disclosed that Hong Kong was an all-important market for Xiaomi where it recently launched two smartphones and an air purifier. VP Barra further stressed the importance of the Hong Kong market to the tech company by hinting that the launch of the Mi Air Purifier 2 was the first time the company was launching an Internet of Things (IoT) product outside Mainland China. Barra also launched the latest 6.4-inch Mi Max phablet in Hong Kong during his visit last week.

The brand has in recent years positioned itself as more than a mobile phone manufacturer, producing wearables, headphones, cameras and even electric scooters. It has its own operating system called MIUI, on which its mobile devices run. The move to solidify its presence in Hong Kong may be unconnected to the company’s drive to ramp up dwindling sales through focusing on offline sales channels.
