The Mi Max was later unveiled in India in July. The device even<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/30/mi-max-2-price-cut-india/"> got a permanent price reduction recently</a>. The phablet size device has now taken a 200 Yuan price cut on its topmost 128GB storage version while the 64GB storage version has a 100 Yuan reduction in its price. We are also seeing for the first time, a cheaper 32GB storage version priced at 1399 Yuan. Apart from that, Xiaomi is also offering a free gift along with the 64GB and 128GB storage versions. Buyers will get the Mi Weighing scale valued at 99 Yuan free of charge.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mi-max-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-159113" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mi-max-2.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2" width="804" height="442" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mi-max-2.png 804w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mi-max-2-300x165.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mi-max-2-768x422.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 804px) 100vw, 804px" /></a></p>
<p>The price cut brings the price of the Mi Max 2 4GB + 64GB version down to 1599 yuan while the top-end model with 4GB RAM + 128GB storage goes for 1799 Yuan. As a comparison, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was launched with a price tag of 1699 Yuan (~$248) for the 4GB + 64GB version and 1999 yuan (~$291) for the 4GB + 128GB version.</p>
<p>No reason was given for this price cut but it seems it is all part of the Thanksgiving offers from Xiaomi, perhaps to appreciate its fans. Since there has been a similar price cut in India which is said to be permanent, the price cut may likely be a permanent one. The price cut and free gift offer could also be a sign the smartphone has performed very well in sales. The device was expected to pack a Snapdragon 660 chip but instead came with an old SD 625 SoC to the disappointment of fans.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-17.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-137428" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-17-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="640" height="360" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-17.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-17-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-17-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>

<p>In this case, among the listed specs is what should either be a Snapdragon 626 chip or that of the Snapdragon 625. That is because the device is listed as coming with an octa-core MSM8953 processor clocked at 2.02GHz. Ordinarily, this is the SD 625, as the SD 626 chip comes with the model number MSM8953Pro. But the benchmark may have omitted the last three letters so, it&#8217;s possible the chip is the Snapdragon 626. Moreover, we have had a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/04/10/xiaomi-mi-max-2-latest-details-snapdragon-626-chip-sony-imx378-sensor/">leak pointing at the SD 626 on board the Mi Max 2</a>.</p>

<p>In addition to the processor, the Max 2 is listed with 4GB of RAM and it runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat which will most likely be embedded with Xiaomi&#8217;s MIUI interface. The Geekbench listing did not reveal any further detail but the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/04/07/xiaomi-mi-max-2-spotted-gfxbench-likely-sporting-unannounced-snapdragon-660/">Mi Max 2&#8217;s appearance on GFXBench</a> revealed the device&#8217;s processor uses the Adreno 506 GPU and that is featured by both the SD 625and SD 626 chips. GFXBench also revealed a 6.4-inch 1080p display, 18GB of native storage, a 12MP rear camera as well as a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies.</p>

Ahead of the launch, there is one last dash leak of the phablet which suggests that it would feature a USB Type-C port that would make it support reverse charging. The leaked image of what could pass for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 connected to an iPhone with an OTG cable and the iPhone 7 was actually charging. Which suggests that the Mi Max 2 was reverse charging the iPhone.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132933" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2" width="596" height="546" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2.png 596w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-300x275.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px" /></a></p>
<p>Now, it would be an awesome feature if the Mi Max 2 joins the league of mobile devices with OTG functions meaning apart from getting a phablet-sized smartphone, buyers would also get a power bank which can come in handy someday. The good thing about USB-OTG is that the Mi Max 2 would be able to charge not just a second smartphone but other gadgets like camera and others.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132943" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-1.jpg?x44794" alt="xiaomi mi max 2" width="690" height="461" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-1.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>While we cannot say if this is actually true, it aligns properly with an earlier rumour that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/23/latest-xiaomi-mi-max-2-leak-reveals-massive-5349mah-battery/">Mi Max 2 would pack a large 5,349mAh battery</a>, higher than the large  4,850mAh battery on the Mi Max. A battery that size would be enough to power the device and charge other gadgets. But we&#8217;ll advise you take this with a pinch of salt because the entire charging cord is not visible so we&#8217;ll know if it&#8217;s the Mi Max 2 that is actually charging the iPhone.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132948" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2" width="610" height="610" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-2.jpg 610w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/mi-max-2-2-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px" /></a></p>

<p>In addition, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will feature Qualcomm&#8217;s latest Snapdragon 660 chip which comes with power efficiency. There is a base model packing an equally power-efficient Snapdragon 626 chip. Other features include a 4GB + 64GB version and a higher 6GB + 128GB version.  The Xiaomi phablet is also expected to come with a 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor at the rear and a 5MP  sensor up front. As for the price, an earlier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/04/10/xiaomi-mi-max-2-latest-details-snapdragon-626-chip-sony-imx378-sensor/">rumor</a> hints that the Mi Max 2’s price may be adjusted slightly but will still fall between 1499 Yuan and 1699 Yuan, not exceeding 1999 Yuan at most. We&#8217;ll find out more about this device tomorrow.</p>

The Mi Max 2 is scheduled for a May 25 launch and according to leaks, the phone will only have a few design changes with the upgrades occurring under the hood.</p>
<p>A set of leaked live images that surfaced online yesterday said to be of the Mi Max 2 is our first look at the device.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-real-image.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132271" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-real-image.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2" width="750" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-real-image.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-real-image-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-real-image-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a></p>
<p>The Mi Max 2 in the image wears the champagne gold paint and could pass for the same device as the original <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-max/">Mi Max</a>. However, you should notice that the antenna lines are different and now have the U-design. The camera setup is also different as the LED flash sits on the left of the sensor and not the right.</p>
<p>This is a 6.44-inch device, so one hand use is out of it. We guess that is why Xiaomi still retains the fingerprint scanner in exactly the same position. But we really wish the scanner was positioned in front of the device, so we wouldn&#8217;t have to pick up the device all the time just to unlock it. A simple home button swipe, and you can check for notifications or open apps without lifting the device from your desk or any other flat surface its placed on.</p>
<p>Another image shows the base and top of the device. We can see Xiaomi has reduced the number of holes that make up the speaker grille. While there are two sets on opposite sides of the USB Type-C port, don&#8217;t expect stereo speakers. Thankfully, the IR blaster makes a return and there is still an audio jack.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-132276" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Taiwan" width="600" height="1116" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-161x300.jpg 161w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Xiaomi-Mi-Max-2-551x1024.jpg 551w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>We have no doubt that the images are genuine as they match the blueprint that was seen on the website of Taiwan&#8217;s communications agency.</p>

<p>The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is expected to launch in two variants: one will be powered by a Snapdragon 626 processor and the other will feature the Snapdragon 660. They will also differ in terms of memory configuration but will have the same camera sensors and 5000mAh battery capacity. Pricing is rumored to start at ¥1499 (∼$220).</p>

But more than a year later, the Mi Max is yet to get a successor even as the original Mi Max isn&#8217;t listed on the Mi mall anymore. Thus, a successor to the Xiaomi Max dubbed Mi Max 2 has become the subject of a couple of leaks and rumours.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-126208" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Before now we have seen a couple of leaks on the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with its specs details said to include a 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor but with a larger aperture in order to get better camera effect. On the other hand, the front selfie shooter will have a 5MP  sensor. We had even seen a photo said to be of the Mi Max 2 but which we believe is fake. Now, a fresh rumor has emerged and interestingly, it tips the Mi Max 2 as officially launching on May 23 and that the publicity for the launch event would commence tomorrow. While we can&#8217;t say if this is true, Xiaomi has this year been releasing its products without long notice like the Redmi Note 4X. So don&#8217;t brush this aside just yet, it is possible a launch would take place on May 23.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/xiaomi-mi-max-3-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-131331" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/xiaomi-mi-max-3-2.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max 2" width="345" height="310" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/xiaomi-mi-max-3-2.png 345w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/xiaomi-mi-max-3-2-300x270.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px" /></a></p>
<p>The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was rumoured to come with the same 6.44-inch display with 1080p resolution.  The device is tipped to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 and with an increase in the battery capacity to 5000mAh. An earlier rumour also tips the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/02/22/xiaomi-mi-max-2-rumored-launch-may/">Mi Max 2 as packing a Snapdragon 660 chip</a> backed by 6GB of RAM and 4GB RAM on the standard version. There are indications now that the Xiaomi Max 2 will feature a Snapdragon 626 processor for the 4GB RAM version while the SD 660 chip would be for the higher 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version. Also, the battery capacity may be increased from the 4850mAh on the Mi Max to a 5,000mAh capacity.</p>

<p>There are also talks of the MIUI 9 on the Mi Max but that doesn&#8217;t look feasible unless the device isn&#8217;t launching soon. The MIUI 9 Beta testing has not commenced properly,  not to talk of rolling out on a smartphone. As for the price, an earlier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/04/10/xiaomi-mi-max-2-latest-details-snapdragon-626-chip-sony-imx378-sensor/">rumor</a> hints that the Mi Max 2 price may be adjusted slightly but will still fall between 1499 Yuan and 1699 Yuan, not exceeding 1999 Yuan at most.</p>

Already, we are expecting the Snapdragon 835-powered Mi 6 to be launched any moment from now. Another smartphone that will likely hit the market within the first half of the year is the second-generation Xiaomi Mi Max 2.</p>
<figure id="attachment_126208" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-126208" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/xiaomi-mi-max-4/"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-126208 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max.jpg?x44794" alt="mi max" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-126208" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi Mi Max</figcaption></figure>
<p>The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is expected this year as a replacement for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/xiaomi/">Mi Max</a> which was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/05/10/xiaomi-max-goes-official-6-44-inch-display-16mp-camera/">released last year</a> and is even off the shelf on Xiaomi Mall presently. Latest details about the Mi Max 2 has emerged and there are indications that the next-gen Xiaomi smartphone will not use the yet-to-be-announced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/04/07/xiaomi-mi-max-2-spotted-gfxbench-likely-sporting-unannounced-snapdragon-660/">Snapdragon 660 chipset, as rumoured and purportedly spotted on benchmark</a>, but will feature a Snapdragon 626 processor instead. The Snapdragon 626 chip is said to be the successor to the Snapdragon 625 and comes with an increase of about 10% in performance over the SD 625. The new SD 626 also has support for dual cameras while also retaining the qualities of the SD 625 in terms of power and battery life advantages.</p>
<figure id="attachment_126209" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-126209" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/xiaomi-mi-max-2-2/"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-126209" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Max" width="600" height="379" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/xiaomi-mi-max-2-300x190.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-126209" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi Mi Max</figcaption></figure>
<p>In addition, the Mi Max 2&#8217;s camera is said to be another area of major upgrade. It is tipped to come with the same setup as used on the Mi 5S, which is a 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor but with a larger aperture in order to get better camera effect. On the other hand, the front selfie shooter will have a 5MP  sensor. Earlier on, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was rumoured to come with the same 6.44-inch display with 1080p resolution.  The device is tipped to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 and with an increase in the battery capacity to 5000mAh. An earlier rumour also tips the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/02/22/xiaomi-mi-max-2-rumored-launch-may/">Mi Max 2 as packing a Snapdragon 660 chip</a> backed by 6GB of RAM and 4GB RAM on the standard version.</p>
