Windows is obviously designed for PCs and tablets but that doesn’t stop developers from booting it on unsupported devices, just for the heck of it. The most recent device to join the list has now become the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 that has successfully booted Windows 10 ARM64 PE using UEFI-EDK2.

However, as IT Home reports, the system cannot currently recognize eMMC due to which certain functions may not work and it may not be possible to “install the complete system.”

The entire thing appears to be an initiative by WoA project developers to get newer versions of Windows to work on older Lumia and new Android models, since the OS no longer supports mobile phones.

Still, Windows does also support ARM processors along with the typical Intel and AMD x86. It is this bit that has been exploited by devs to maintain an unofficial Windows on ARM (WoA) project.

As for the good old Xiaomi Mi Pad 4, it uses an 8-inch 16:10 FHD screen, which could be quite ideal for running Windows when put in landscape mode. It packs the Snapdragon 660 processor and is equipped with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. For photography, you get a 13MP shooter at the rear and a 5MP one upfront. The battery is sized 6000mAh.

With smartphones increasing in size every year, tablets aren’t really as popular as before. And with the advent of foldables, things could look even worse for the tablet market. But in Q2 2019, it did fairly well in China. IDC reports that the tablet market grew by 2.3% YoY in China in Q2 2019.

The growth was driven by the consumer tablet market, registering an 8% increase YoY in the second quarter. The commercial tablet market didn’t fare so well, registering a decline of 15.2% YoY.

Apple takes the lead in the Chinese tablet market with the iPad Air being really popular among customers. In fact, IDC notes that the Air is even more popular than the iPad Mini. The Cupertino giant shipped 2.33 million units in Q2 2019, up by 0.7% YoY and taking a huge 41.4% market share in the same period.

In second place is Huawei shipping 1.54 million units and thereby continuing its impressive growth in the region. The Chinese telecommunications giant grabbed a share of 27.4% of the market, registering a solid 17.1% YoY growth, driven by its flagship MediPad M6 lineup. IDC notes that Huawei’s dual-brand strategy is particularly successful in the low-tier cities in China, which is helping it grow steadily.

In third place is Xiaomi, bouncing back in terms of shipments in Q2 2019. The smartphone maker shipped 340,000 units in this period, which was an astounding 430.6% YoY growth. It’s not surprising given that Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 4 lineup was announced by the end of Q2 2019 and does not really reflect in the shipments accounted for in the same period. The Mi Pad 4 seems to be doing really well, helping the brand jump up to the third place.

Lenovo occupies the fourth place, slipping down by one position in the table as compared to last year. Its tablet shipments in China also registered a 33% decline YoY. Finally, in the fifth position is Microsoft. The Windows OS maker did really well this quarter shipping around 200K units which is a 68% increase from last year. IDC adds that its partnership with JD and other promotions helped the company increase its shipments in the last quarter.

Finally, IDC reports that 10 to 11-inch screen size and 4GB + 64GB configuration are becoming standard among consumer tablets in the second quarter of 2019. The commercial tablet market is on the decline, but there is hope after 5G becomes mainstream and tablets become an integral part of medical, government, education, and security industries.

The market is brimming with top-branded tablets that boast an impressive array of features and top-end specs. On the downside, users usually have a hard time holding these devices.

The Mi Pad 4 is a feature-laden tablet that you might want to take a look at, especially if you find other tablets uncomfortable to hold for long periods. Designed exclusively to enable one-handed operation, this Xiaomi-branded tablet offers larger screen ration despite its smaller body.

In fact, the Mi Pad 4’s 16:10 golden ratio FHD screen is a considerable 9.4% smaller than its predecessor. It sports an eye-catching 8.0 inches display and its aspect ratio has been increased by 6 percent. More importantly, it is relatively comfortable and easy-to-hold in one hand.

As far as the price tag it carries is concerned, the Mi Pad 4 usually sells for $273.99 on online and offline shops, but you can now buy it a reduced price of just $199.99 on GeekBuying. This is a noteworthy 27% drop in the tablet’s original asking price.

On top of that, you can use coupon code GKB104T to save an extra $52 at the time of checking out. In other words, the aforesaid coupon can help you bring your already lowered grand total further down to just $187.99 before you click on the ‘Place Your Order’ button.

The Mi Pad 4 is quite an irresistible tablet at this price, given that it packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, Octa Core, 2.2GHz processor along with an equally competent Adreno 512 (Max Frequency 650MHz) GPU, under the hood. It comes with 3GB of RAM and offers 32GB of internal storage for your entertainment data.

On the photography front, it houses a 13.0MP HD dual-camera setup on the back and a 5.0MP front shooter for self-portraits and face-to-face video chatting. It runs on MIUI9-based Android 8.1 Oreo OS and is backed by a 6000mAh high-density battery.

Vocal assistants are getting smarter to perform complex actions on smartphones and many other hi-tech products. This is why artificial intelligence is becoming one of the most important priorities of smartphone manufacturers in order to release innovative and attractive products. Today, thanks to a new update, even the newly-released Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is getting smarter.

The Chinese company has decided to update the new Android tablet with Xiao AI, its own AI-backed virtual assistant which can replace Google Assistant in several areas. Thanks to the new update, Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 can now support vocal commands to perform complex tasks only by hearing the voice of the user. You just need to pronounce a sentence to start video reproduction, music or story selection or even controlling smart home appliances.

Now, the tablet is even more useful and comfortable to use, and this is a very important update given that the Android tablets market is slowly declining as tablets are often considered useless devices. However, Xiao AI is currently a China-exclusive as it is not available in other languages. The new update rolling out on the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is also fixing a camera issue and improving the camera stability.

The emergence of phablet-size smartphones with sizes extending up to 6.99 inches led to the steady decline in sales of tablets and that decline continues to persist in Q2 2018. A research report by IDC for Q2 2018 reveals that the global tablet market declined 13.5%. Notwithstanding, Apple still maintained its leadership of this segment with 34.9% market share, followed by Samsung with 15.1%.

The report expatiated further that Apple shipped a total of 11.5 million tablets in Q2 of 2018 representing a 0.9% growth year-over-year while Samsung shipped just 5 million units. Chinese market leader Huawei came in at the third position with 3.4 million tablet shipments representing a 10.3% market share. It is interesting to note that Huawei has been on the resurgence on all fronts as it had an impressive 7.7% growth YOY. Completing the top 4 is Lenovo with an estimated 2 million tablets shipment and 6% market share.

The total tablets shipments globally were estimated at 33 million which is lower than the 38.3 million shipments IDC reported the shipments was for last year. Out of this total shipment, slate tablets accounted for the majority of the market with 28.4 million units which is 14.5% lower than the previous year’s figure. On the other hand, detachable tablets accounted for the remaining numbers. The market is mainly driven by premium products from Microsoft and Apple and growth has slowed in recent months. That could change soon with the imminent launch of the Microsoft Surface Go, Chrome OS-based detachables, and perhaps a more affordable iPad Pro in the future. The Galaxy Tab S4 released last week also has the potentials to boost the detachable tablet market. Huawei’s detachable tablets also grew by over 200% in Q2 2018. In all, the market could perform better in the third quarter of 2018 as a result of new tablet releases like Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 4, Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and several others. But manufacturers don’t seem to be too keen on the tablet market.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 4was officially unveiled on June 25 alongside the new Redmi 6 Pro which is the first Xiaomi phone with a notch. After just three days from the official announcement, the company has announced its launch date in the Chinese market. The new tablet will officially go on sale in China from tomorrow June 29 and it will carry a price tag of 1099 Yuan which roughly translates to $166. This is a very affordable price if we consider that the device is not a typical affordable tablet with a low-end processor or low amount of RAM to watch videos and surf the web. Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is not a flagship tablet, but it has specs we can compare to upper-midrange phones, so it is a premium offer despite its very affordable price.

The 1099 Yuan price tag is referred to the version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage with Wi-Fi only, while the version with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM (Wi-Fi only) will be available for 1399 Yuan, roughly $211. At last, there will be an LTE configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage at a price tag of 1499 Yuan that is equivalent to $226. In each case, the memory is expandable with a micro SD up to 256 GB. If you are from China, you will be able to choose between two hues of its full metal unibody design: Black and Gold.

It shows images at a Full HD+ resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The main camera has a resolution of 13 MP but it does not sport LED flash, while the battery has a 6000 mAh capacity and it lasts up to 12 hours in video playback.

After several months of speculations, Xiaomi finally launched the Mi Pad 4, its fourth-gen tablet model. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 adopts a design style different from those of its predecessors and on top of that it comes with an LTE version! Here are some pictures of the Mi Pad 4 getting unboxed by the guys at Chinese blog – Sina Technologies.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 sports an 8-inch display just like its predecessors but in this case it adopts a 16:10 screen which ensures the device isn’t as wide as the previous models. Thus, the tablet can easily be held with one hand. The slab also has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The top and bottom bezels seem to have been trimmed and are looking thinner than the predecessors. The device still comes with a centrally-placed selfie shooter while the home button is now designed to be inside the display.

The rear design also adopts a design which is slightly different from the previous models. It is an all-metal design but since there is an LTE version it became imperative that space be created for the antenna band and that was done at the top edge. The speaker grills at the back of the earlier Mi Pad models are also missing at the back. Instead, the device packs a design with the speaker grills located on either side of the USB Type-C port at the bottom. There is a single rear camera located at the top left corner. The design also includes the Mi logo at the back.

The major upgrade on the Mi Pad 4 is on the internals. The device is powered by the efficient Snapdragon 660 premium mid-range chipset paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM while there are 32GB/64GB storage versions. Xiaomi may release a 2GB RAM + 16GB model later on. The device will get its juice from a 6000mAh battery which is reputed to provide continuous music playback for up to 16 hours and streaming of up to 15 episodes of TV series.

There is also a 4GB + 64GB WiFi version with a 1399 yuan (~$211) price tag. Meanwhile, check out more unboxing pictures of the Mi Pad 4 from the gallery below.

Ever since Xiaomi made the announcement that the Mi Pad 4 will be launched on June 25, the airwaves have been buzzing with several details of the fourth-generation Mi tablet. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 real design may have been spotted in a couple of leaked images which GSMArena describes as advertising images.

The images unmask the Mi Pad 4 front and rear design and there seems to be a change in the design. Noticeably, the front bezels look like what has been trimmed when compared to those of the Mi Pad, Pad 2 and Pad 3. The bezels obviously look thinner on the top and bottom side and the company seems to have removed the front Mi branding. While at the back, the Mi logo is still at the bottom part. Xiaomi still retains the camera position but the sensor looks bigger than those of the Pad 2 and 3. We can also see the 3.5mm audio jack at the upper edge.

Recently, we reported that Xiaomi could soon launch its next-generation tablet — Mi Pad 4 as the company hinted on its Weibo account about good news coming. Now, the company has announced that the Mi Pad 4 will be officially launched in China on 25th June.

Based on the previous reports, the fourth-generation Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet is expected to retain the 7.9-inch LCD display and will offer Full-HD screen resolution with pixel density of 320 PPI. Further, a leaked firmware file suggests 18:9 aspect ratio but it is not yet confirmed.

The upcoming tablet is said to have such a form-factor that it will offer one-hand usage. Earlier, it was reported that the Mi Pad 4 will be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 660 processor, clocked at either 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz. However, the memory configurations details such as RAM and ROM for the Mi Pad 4 are not yet known.

While reports indicate that the upcoming Mi Pad tablet will come with support for the microSD card to expand the storage capacity, it is doubtful given that the Mi Pad 3 doesn’t have a microSD card slot.

On the optics front, the device is expected to come with a 13-megapixel OmniVision OV13855 camera sensor at the back and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with Samsung S5K5E8 sensor for video calling. The Mi Pad 4 is expected to be running on company’s own MIUI based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

The device is expected to come powered by a 6,000mAh battery. A 3C certification revealed that the device has a charger specification of 5V/2A and a charging power of 10W.

To know for sure what the Mi Pad 4 has to offer and when it will be available for purchase and at what price, we’ll have to wait for the company to officially launch it on June 25. On the same date, Xiaomi is also set to launch Mi 6 Pro with a notched display.

The post Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 To Launch In China On June 25 appeared first on Gizmochina.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 has been in the works for quite some time now but there has been no concrete detail on its launch date from Xiaomi. The company announced the Mi Pad 3 in April last year but now we are in June and all what we know is a couple of likely details and certifications but no launch modalities have been revealed. Well. that may soon change if Xiaomi’s latest Weibo post on the Mi Pad Weibo handle is anything to go by.

The Xiaomi Pad Weibo handle has been relatively inactive for a while. The last post before this one was posted in January last year and since then there has been nothing until now. The short Weibo post just hints at a good news coming at 10 am tomorrow. We don’t know what exactly the news is but it could possibly be the Mi Pad 4 unveiling or the announcement of a launch date for the 4th-gen Mi Pad.

The tablet market has not enjoyed a successful run, mainly due to the proliferation of phablet-sized phones. But the Mi Pad is one product that was well received, especially last year’s Mi Pad 3. The Mi Pad 4 is expected to retain the 7.9-inch LCD display found on its predecessors. A leaked firmware file, however, suggest the tablet may come with an 18:9 aspect ratio but that isn’t certain. The device is expected to feature a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and a frontal shooter of 5-megapixel. There is also the rumour of a Snapdragon 660 chipset onboard. We won’t have to wait for too long to get the full details of this product but we expect something with some upgrade over the Mi Pad 3.

The post Xiaomi May Likely Announce Mi Pad 4 Launch Modalities on Wednesday appeared first on Gizmochina.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Pad 3 in April last year after a two-year hiatus and the third-generation Mi tablet was well received. The month of April is almost running out yet we haven’t heard anything about a successor to the Mi Pad 3. This is despite the confirmation of Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO that the next-gen tablet is in the works. It is interesting to note that the Mi Pad 3 and even the Mi Pad 2 have been out of stock for a while now both in China and on several online e-retail platforms. Xiaomi even removed the product details entirely from its website, thus fuelling speculations that it may have concluded plans to rest the product line.

However, well-known Chinese tech analyst, Pan Jiutang has hinted that the Mi Pad 3 successor is very well in development and it is coming with lots of expectations. The analyst was responding to an enquiry by a Mi fan who disclosed his anticipation for a new i Pad. By the way, it is not known if Xiaomi would call the next-generation tablet Mi Pad 4 but that may likely be the product’s name eventually.

Nothing is known about the likely features the Mi Pad 4 will come with but we’d smile at a full-screen display design and a SIM card slot on the tablet. However, in an era the tablet market is gradually withering and considering that it took two years before the Mi Pad 2 got a successor in the Mi Pad 3, we don’t expect Xiaomi to expend too much energy on the tablet line or to drop this one very soon.
