A few months back, Xiaomi and Microsoft entered into a partnership which allowed the company’s Windows 10 OS to be installed on Xiaomi’s Mi4 flagship. We have already seen a couple of Mi4 devices running on an early version of the OS, but today, Microsoft released an official Windows 10 Mobile ROM version for all Xiaomi Mi4 users. This means that you can experience the power of Windows right on your Xiaomi smartphone. The ROM will be publicly made available for all Mi4 users to try out.

Along with the new ROM, Xiaomi also announced today that it will make the Windows 10 ROM available for its Xiaomi Mi Note series. So, in the coming weeks, there will be at least three different models running on Microsoft’s Windows 10 OS — the Mi4, Mi Note and the Mi Pad 2.

While we have not yet tried out the newly released version, here are some pictures of the Xiaomi Mi4 running on the Windows 10 Mobile operating system directly from Xiaomi. So far everything looks good, but we will have to wait for some more feedback to see whether there are any major flaws or bugs in the OS.

Its been just a few days since Google announced its latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version. But developers have already started working on the new update for existing devices. According to the new Weibo post from the active Chinese developer, Ivan, we could see the first developer version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Xiaomi Mi3 real soon.

Of course, you may have to wait for a few more weeks until the first usable version is available, but its still good to see that thanks to such active developers, you can try out the latest Marshmallow Android update months before the official release.

Ivan notes that he’s still fixing bugs on the his Xiaomi Mi3. And once he’s done with the Xiaomi Mi3 model, he will move on to the flagship Xiaomi Mi4. So, Mi4 users also have something to cheer about. Further, he adds that he will also try to install it on the three year old Xiaomi Mi2 model as well (if possible) and finally move on the the Xiaomi Mi Note standard edition.

Xiaomi Mi2S users who have flashed the Developer Edition of the MIUI 6 will be able to update their devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop version of the MIUI 6 operating system through a now available OTA update.

According to source, when the update initially came out some of the users encountered issues after updating their devices. But the company has since released a new OTA update that has resolved those issues.

As previously mentioned, only those who have the Developer Edition of the MIUI 6 can receive the update. Unfortunately, the update for the standard edition of the OS will come only at a later time. Mi1 and Mi Note 4 users will also have to wait a little longer as there has been no news about when the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for MIUI 6 will come to those devices.

Users who want to try out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update based on MIUI 6 can flash the Developer Edition of the software by downloading the ROM from the MIUI website on their Mi2S and installing it through the built-in Updater app.

Xiaomi has been aggressively expanding its product portfolio in the past few months. We have already seen a new lineup, namely the top end Xiaomi Mi Note and now, it looks like the company may have another version of last year’s flagship.

The Xiaomi Mi4 2GB edition was recently spotted on the Chinese certification website TENAA. Interestingly, the phone is said to feature just 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the other hand, the regular Xiaomi Mi4 version came with 3GB RAM and 16/64GB internal storage options.

The TENAA entry shows that there are three different version of this device made for three different carries in China namely, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom and all the models support 4G LTE networks. We expect rest of the specs to be similar to the regular model.

Xiaomi did the same with this year’s Redmi model, by offering a 2GB variant at a slightly higher price tag. Looks like its going to do the same with Xiaomi Mi4 too.

Ofcourse, the major motive of reducing the specs is to bring down the cost and it is said that the Xiaomi Mi4 2GB edition will cost just about 1799 Yuan which comes to $289.

A top end model, namely the Xiaomi Mi Note Plus was recently spotted on AnTuTu and this particular Mi4 edition may be announced alongside the Mi Note Plus in the coming few weeks.

China is the world’s biggest smartphone market and hence, its no surprise that most manufacturers want a piece of the market share in the country. While Microsoft has its own Lumia series smartphones running on its Windows Phone OS, it isn’t sufficient to compete with the millions of other phones running on Android and iOS. As a result, Microsoft has just announced that it will be working with Xiaomi to test Windows 10 powered smartphones.

In an official blog post released a few hours ago, Microsoft states that it has entered into a new program with Xiaomi, where a selected group of Mi4 users will be given the chance of downloading and installing the Windows 10 Technical Preview on their Xiaomi Mi4 smartphones. They will be giving direct feedback to the company. The post also says that this will help in the release of the Windows 10 powered smartphones later this year.

Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year. These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview – installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft.

 

Microsoft is planning to expand aggressively in China as it has partnered up with many other leading tech companies in the country like Lenovo, Qihoo 360 and Tencent. All of them have agreed to release the new Windows 10 OS as a free upgrade to their existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users.

Windows 10 is one of the best upgrades from Microsoft till date. The company has taken feedback from thousands of users to develop and tweak this new OS which will be compatible with devices of all sizes.

Given the immense popularity of Xiaomi’s flagship devices, most of the Android version updates are already available to download. We recently saw the new Android 5.0.2 ROM for both the Xiaomi Mi3 and the Mi4 from a well known developer back in February, and today, Ivan brings out the latest version of Android 5.1 Lollipop update to these devices.

Android 5.1 is the most recent update from Google for Lollipop and in fact, it was just announced a week back. So, its good to see that the new version made it to Xiaomi Mi3 and Mi4 devices so fast.

Here’s the official list of changelog with the new update.

Changelog:

1. Updated to Android 5.1 codes
2. Removed music player
3. Removed CM file explorer
4. Newly ported, highly prone to bugs

 

The process of downloading and installing the ROM is pretty straight forward. Most of the Xiaomi Mi3 and Mi4 variants are compatible with the update except for the Xiaomi Mi4 CDMA 4G model. So, if you are using that particular edition, don’t try to flash, as it won’t work properly and you may even brick your device.

Here are the known models which successfully ran the new Android 5.1 ROM: Mi4W/C and Mi3W with WCDMA, CDMA and TD SIM cards

Remember to boot your device once you have installed the ROM as otherwise, you may face some network signal issues. Also, if you are using a Chinese CDMA model, there’s apparently some issues that’s still not fixed.

Make no mistake Mi4 is pretty good device, But with Lack of 4g and Micro SD card slot, the 16gb version had few takers. Given that there are other cheaper options such as Oneplus One and Honor Holly 6. There is also consensus between Bloggers and fans MI4 was priced a tad higher which made it loose its appeal.

MEIZU MX4 PRO

The Meizu MX4 which was released a few weeks back, clearly wasn’t enough for many users out there which meant the company had something better in store for them, the new MX4 Pro.

MX4 Pro comes with a 5.5 inch Sharp 2K display, thereby joining the premium class of smartphones that features resolutions above 2560×1536 pixels. This means the display will be extremely good, and we don’t think you’ll have anything to complain about in this category.

Meizu has incorporated a Samsung Exynos 5430 Octa Core CPU inside its new flagship along with Mali-T628 MP6 GPU and 3GB RAM. So, there’s no doubt that the MX4 Pro will be one of the best smartphones available to buy today.

There are three storage variants to choose from, namely 16GB / 32GB / 64GB. While the smallest storage version will save you a few hundred dollars, note that the device does not come with a MicroSD card slot, so if you like storing a lot of movies, apps and high res pictures on your device, make sure you get atleast the 32GB version.

Even the camera on the MX4 Pro is top of the class. It features a 20.7MP Sony IMX220, f/2.2 camera on the back , which should definitely give you one of the best images captured by an Android device. According to the company, their camera team worked closely with professional photographers to calibrate the rear camera on the device, so color reproduction too should be good.

Finally, coming to the software, you get the new Flyme 4.1 on top of Android 4.4.4 Kikat.

To sum up, Meizu MX4 Pro is truly a Pro version of the MX4 and is currently one of the best Android smartphones that you can get in the market. The device starts at $410 for 16GB, $440 for the 32GB and $510 for the 64GB. One of the most popular smartphones of 2014, Xiaomi Mi4 managed to exceed all expectations when it launched back in July this year.

The device comes with a beautiful design which some claim is inspired from Apple’s iPhone lineup. You get a 5 inch Full HD screen up front, with a solid metal frame and a glossy back cover.

Inside, you get Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Soc with a 2.5GHz Quad Core Krait-400 processor. There’s 3GB RAM onboard along with Adreno 330 GPU which makes sure that the device is capable of heavy multi-tasking.

Mi4 runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat. MIUI is considered as one of the best interfaces on Android currently in the market and has extensive support. The UI makes the most out of the Android platform and hence, MIUI would be a great replacement for your traditional stock Android look. You also get a 3080 mAh Li-ion battery on board which can be charged up to 60% within 30 minutes using Quick Charge 2.0

OnePlus One

Another Chinese smartphone which took the world by storm is the ‘One’ from the company called OnePlus. You may have never heard of their name before ‘One’ became popular, but that doesn’t matter as its flagship is currently regarded as one of the best smartphones of 2014.

OnePlus One (OPO) comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel display which translates into 401 pixels per inch. Just like the Mi4, it comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 Quad Core processor clocked at 2.5 Ghz. As for the memory, you have 3GB RAM and 16GB/ 64GB internal storage options. Unfortunately, there’s no MiroSD card slot on the device so you have to be careful while choosing the storage variant.

The 13MP rear camera produces some great pictures, and the 3,100 mAh battery makes sure that the device is up and running till the end of the day.

The phone is well designed and well built like a true flagship and is available in Silk White and Sandstone Black finishes.

OPO is available for just $349  which is a great price for a device with such specifications. Like the Mi4, its available on Oppomart for a discount of $50, so you can get it for just $349.

OPPO N3

OPPO N3 is not just a flagship smartphone, its a remarkable piece of technology. The company is quite famous in China for its well built devices and the latest flagship doesn’t disappoint at all. It comes with top of the line specifications with a beautiful and practical design.

On the front, there’s a 5.5 inch 1080p display, (we would have loved a 2K display given its expensive price tag) which means the screen is more or less like the other competitors available in the market.

Internals too are similar as it comes with a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5 Ghz and Adreno 330 GPU along with 2GB RAM.

However, you won’t buy this phone for its internals but for the various special features that it brings to the table. For example, OPPO N3 can charge from 0% to 75% in under 30 minutes, thanks to VOOC charging. This coupled with a large 3000 battery makes sure, you don’t have to carry around a charger wherever you go.

Secondly, it does have a MicroSD card slot, which is something that’s absent from many flagships available today.

Then there’s the interesting 16MP Omnivision rotating camera that acts as the rear as well as the front shooter. So, selfie addicts could definitely use this feature for beautiful shots.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor, O-Click 2.0 Bluetooth Remote and special software features that come with Color OS 2.0.

But you get these features at a price, as OPPO N3 is the second costliest flagship that we have covered in the list.

The device is available for pre-order for $654. That’s almost $200 more than the basic version of MX4 Pro and $300 more than both OPO and Mi4.

So why would you pay this much for a Chinese phone? Well, OPPO is a well established brand, now available in a number of international markets. Chinese consumers love OPPO which is why its not surprising to see that it received more than 2 million pre-orders in the first week itself.

SUMMARY

ZTE NUBIA Z7

The new Nubia Z7 is yet another costly flagship from a well known Chinese manufacturer. In fact, its the costliest phone that we have covered in this list.

For the $699 price tag, it does have some additional features as compared to the Oppo N3. For example, the 5.5 inch display up front features 2K resolution which means, the phone has a pixel density of over 538 PPI.

Moving on, it has an extra gig of RAM as compared to OPPO N3, but its the same as the 3GB RAM found on the earlier three flagships which were much cheaper than this.

It comes with the same processor as other competitors i.e. Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. Camera too is of 13MP with OIS. There’s a 3,000 mAh battery on board which coupled with the power efficient processor should last an entire day.

Unfortunately, the device is not yet available for purchase and we’ll update the article as soon as it releases worldwide.

SUMMARY

HUAWEI HONOR 6

If you are looking for something cheap yet don’t want to settle for less than a flagship, Huawei Honor 6 is probably your best bet. The company is well known, operates in a number of international market and is known to release affordable and well built devices.

The latest Huawei Honor 6 brings all the standard features you would expect from a flagship device at a price that would only get you a mid range device, had it been an a well known international manufacturer like Samsung or Sony.

But this is Huawei we are talking about so you get an Octa Core HiSilicon Kirin processor clocked at 1.7 Ghz. You have 3GB RAM onboard along with 16/32GB internal storage option, which like the OPPO N3 can be expanded using an external MicroSD card slot.

There’s a 13MP rear camera sensor along with a 5MP front shooter, both capable of taking decent pictures.

Heating may be its biggest issue, but most smartphones these day heat up to some extent, hence we don’t feel this should stop you from buying the device.

Remember, this a 5.0 inch 1080p phone just like the Xiaomi Mi4, so if you don’t like phablets, this is a good option.

Huawei Honor 6 is currently available for a discounted price of just $339 on Oppomart instead of the regular $399 .

SUMMARY

LENOVO VIBE Z2 PRO

If you like large devices and by large we mean, even bigger than 5.5 inch phablets like OPO, then you’ll like Lenovo’s VIBE Z2 PRO flagship. It features a large 6 inch 2K screen with a pixel density of 490 PPI. That’s pretty impressive given that the phone is so large that some may even called it a tablet.

The device features a brushed aluminium unibody design which gives it a unique place in the market filled with plastic competitors.

This is yet another Snapdragon 801 device and comes with 3GB RAM onboard along with 32GB internal storage.

SUMMARY

IUNI U3

IUNI U3 is one of the best value for money devices that you can get at the moment. The device features a metal body with very thin bezels which makes it look like a premium device.

When it comes to specifications too, the U3 shines well ahead of other competitors. Unlike some of the devices we have mentioned here, like the OPO and Honor 6, U3 comes with a 5.5 inch 2K Quad HD display. This translates into an impressive pixel density of 538 PPI.

The processor is the almost as same as other models in the list i.e. Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.3Ghz and 3GB RAM.

On the back, there’s a 13MP Sony Camera with f2.0 while on the front, you have a 4MP Ultra Pixel camera. Battery’s decent too and at 3,000 mAh, the device should easily last for an entire day.

IUNI U3 is one of the best looking devices in the market at present, which at $399 offers a great deal of features at an amazing pricetag.

HUAWEI ASCEND MATE 7

If you don’t like Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro’s brushed metal finish, then you can go for the new Huawei Mate 7. Its the same size as the Vibe Z2 Pro, but features only 1080p resolution as opposed to 2K on Lenovo. However, still at 390 PPI, the screen is bright and vibrant and should display and images with great clarity.

Huawei went with its own Hisilicon Kirin 925 Octa Core CPU and Mali-T628 GPU. For memory, you have two options 2GB for the 16GB internal memory version and 3GB for the 32GB version. Interestingly, the device does have a MicroSD card which supports cards up to 128GB in size.

It comes with the same Sony Exmor EX214 13Mp rear camera as seen on most other flagships in the list along with a 5MP front camera. Huawei has also made sure that the 6 inch phablet lives for more than a day as it comes with the biggest battery pack in the list, a 4,100 mAh.

However, for the larger battery and the bigger screen, you have to pay around $100 extra than other competitors. You can purchase the device directly from Oppomart for $499.

SUMMARY

Vivo XShot

If you plan to replace your smartphone as your everyday camera, then the new Vivo XShot looks like a good option.

It comes with a 13MP f/1.8 aperture camera with OIS which takes great pictures. The dual tone dual LED flash also makes sure that the color reproduction is also accurate. The front camera too isn’t shabby and at 8MP you can get some great self portraits with it.

Inside, you have a Snapdragon 801 SoC with processor clocked at 2.5Ghz and 3GB RAM on the flagship version but only 2GB on the elite version.

On the front, you have a 5.2 inch screen with 1080p resolution. The battery pack is of 2,600 mAh which should be enough to last for a day with this relatively small screen.

OPPO Find 7

Although its been a while since OPPO announced the Find 7, its still one of the best devices in the market. The device comes with the OPPO brand name, which is of value especially in China due to its great build quality and innovative features. It also comes with the fast charging VOOC feature which can charge the phone 4 times faster than other competitors. With this technology, you get 75% charge from 0% in under 30 minutes.

The other specifications are pretty much what you expect from a top end device. You get a 5.5 inch 2K screen, a 2.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Soc with 3GB RAM, Sony Exmor214 13MP rear camera and 3,000 mAh battery which is removable.

So, if you are looking for a well built device from the OPPO family, the Find 7 will suit you well.

ZOPO 3X

We have seen 11 top chinese phones of 2014 till now and we would like to end it with the cheapest device of the list, the ZOPO 3X. Its the mini version of the flagship, ZOPO ZP999, but don’t be deceived by the name as only the internal storage is smaller and all the rest of the goodies found on the top end flagship makes it to this device.

Surprisingly, it is the first Mediatek Powered handset that is on the list as most others have the Snapdragon 801 SoC onboard. It comes with a  MediaTek MT6595 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2Ghz along with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The phone has a memory card slot too, so the low inbuilt storage won’t be a big issue.

On the front, you get a 5.5 inch Full HD screen while on the back lies a 14MP f/2.0 aperture camera. You have a large 2,700 mAh battery too, which should be more than enough for a whole day’s usage.

The best thing about the ZOPO 3X is its pricetag. It is currently available for $299 on Oppomart which is a great price for a device with such specifications. You also get some free goodies like the official leather case and screen protector, which should save you some after purchase cost.

As cellphone features continue to become more advanced today, cellphones that can handle all kinds of tasks have already become an integral part of our lives. You can see people either checking out their Facebook or Twitter, or reading the news on their phones. As cellphone features become more powerful, they end up consuming more power. Same goes for screen sizes. The larger the screen, the more power is consumed. As a result, today, battery life has become a very important issue to consider when producing smartphones.

In this article, we analyze and compare the battery life of several cellphones such as the Huawei Mate 7, Nokia Lumia 830, Meizu MX4, the Xiaomi Mi4, OnePlus One, IUNI U3, Sony Z1, and the iPhone 5S.

First, I will explain the testing procedure. All the cellphones start out fully charged. With the screen brightness at maximum, the phone in silent, and WiFi connection turned on, the phones undergo these tests: 30-minute video streaming, playing 30-minute videos that were already in the phone (1080p H.264 AAC MP4, 11304kbps), 30-minute gaming, and 30-minute phone calls. Here are the results:

First of all, as you can see from the table, most of the Android phones have at least 3000mAh. Those with the highest battery supply obviously have the advantage. A good example of this is the Huawei Mate 7 which consumed the least amount of power. If regularly used with moderation, you can use it for two days and one night.

Second to the Mate 7 is the OnePlus One which has a battery supply of 3100mAh but with only 40% of its power consumed. This is very impressive.

The difference between the other phones is not too great. They can last for a day and one night. The one that consumes the most power is the IUNI U3 which has a 2K display screen. Despite the fact that it has similar specifications to the Xiaomi Mi4 and OnePlus One, up to 52% of its power was consumed in the tests, making it hard to use for a day.

On November 11, Xiaomi will release a special edition of the Xiaomi Mi4. At the time, some thought that it was the low-end version which received a network license from MIIT. Its specifications were mostly the same but the RAM was decreased from 3GB to 2GB. Now, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, has officially confirmed it in his Weibo account.

This afternoon, Lei Jun announced that the Xiaomi Mi4 Special Edition will go on sale that on the 11^th for 1799 RMB, and will have 2GB RAM and support for 4G internet. It will only go on sale for that day at the Chinese online store T-mall. Its other specifications were not announced but it’s assumed that they are the same as in the original. Furthermore, Lei Jun said that Xiaomi has produced 1,200,000-1,500,000 Mi4 phones this month and will try to make over 2 million by December.

The Xiaomi Mi4 was launched back in July and has always been the biggest-selling Chinese Smartphone until Meizu MX4 came to the market. To compete with the Meizu MX4 the company has announced a new product and its price, which are considerably cheaper than before.

The new Xiaomi Mi4 is the low-cost edition of the Xiaomi Mi4. The difference between this low-end version and the original is that the low-cost edition has 2GB RAM while the original has 3GB RAM.

Besides the low-cost edition, Xiaomi is getting reader for their huge  sale at 11th November by lowering the prices of their products in Chinese electronic shopping website, Tmall. These products are the Mi4, Red Mi 1S, Red Mi Note 4G Enhanced Version, Mi TV 2, Mi Pad, Mi Mobile Battery, Mi Box, Mi Router, and Mi Band.

It is interesting to note that in Xiaomi’s promotion page, the Mi 4 is tagged with “1?99 RMB,” implying that we may see a decrease in the Mi 4’s cost from 1799 RMB (293.75 USD). Merry Christmas to us indeed! Just how much Xiaomi will lower it, we do not know. We will just have to wait.

Things are really getting heated in the affordable flagship market as more and more Chinese companies are releasing high end gadgets at a very affordable price.

First it was Xiaomi Mi4, then came Meizu MX4 and now comes Elephone P4000. While this company may not be as famous as the other two, it sure is trying hard to get a portion of the market share as soon as possible. The Hong Kong based company already released three new cheap devices a few days back and now, its all set to launch its flagship device for the year, the Elephone P4000.

More often than not, Elephone takes design cues for its phones from successful flagships, and this time around, the P4000 takes inspiration from Xiaomi’s recently unveiled Mi4.

As you can see in the pictures, it looks a lot like Mi4, which is not really a bad thing given that we liked and praised Xiaomi’s design. The P4000 replicates the metal chassis on Xiaomi’s flagship and the overall design is as refined as well built as the Mi4.

The device will be powered by a Mediatek MT6592 Octa Core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. There’s a 5inch 720p display up front with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. We still don’t know whether there’s a MicroSD card slot on the device, but we sure hope so.

On the back, there’s a 13MP camera while on the front there’s an 8MP shooter. You get 3,150 mAh battery onboard, which is frankly quite large and enough for an entire day’s usage.

Overall Elephone P4000 looks like a great flagship and if the company manages to price it competitively, then we may have a winner here.

After the great success of its Mi3, Xiaomi aka Apple of China is ready to challenge iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5 with its new Xiaomi Mi4. Lei Jun, the CEO and founder of the Xiaomi has already launched Mi4 in China. The Vice President of this China based giant, recently revealed that this new smartphone will hit the Indian market by the end of 2014. The reasonable cost and quality features of the Xiaomi Mi4 are sure to grab a large share of the Indian smartphone market.

The device has a 5-inch screen with full high definition display, 1920*1080 screen resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.5 GHz 801 processor, 4.4.3 version of android and 3GB RAM. Xiaomi Mi4 is equipped with an accelerometer, proximity sensor, barometer, gyroscope and compass. In spite of having these remarkable features, it is only priced at $320-325. HTC One M8 and Xiaomi Mi 4 are both great phones. We compared these 2 on the main factors as mentioned below:

Aesthetics:

Both bold, metallic looking handsets feature 5.0-inch display with exceptional screen resolutions of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and 441ppi pixel densities. While HTC uses Super LCD3, Xiomi has a Sharp/JDI OGS full lamination display. Talking about the exteriors neither of these phones are dust/water resistant.

Thickness and weight of the Xiaomi is 0.35inches and 149g respectively while the HTC is 0.37inches thick with a weight of 160g.

Hardware and Software:

Both the Mi4 and One M8 have quad-core Krait 400 processors as their primary power source. However, Xiaomi is measured at 2.5 GHz in comparison to HTC’s 2.3. Similarly, the Mi4 has 3GB of RAM while the One M8 provides only 2GB. Additionally, HTC uses Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with HTC Sense 6 UI while Xiaomi has Android v4.4.3 KitKat OS with MIUI 6 UI.

Memory:

Xiaomi’s handset internal storage provides 16GB and 64GB, considerably more than HTC’s 16GB and 32GB. Conversely, the One M8 has up to 128GB of expandable memory while the Mi8 does not support microSD.

Battery and Camera:

Xiaomi’s Mi4 has a rear facing 13 MP cameral with dual-LED flash while the One M8 has a 4 UltraPixels camera with the same features. Additionally, the HTC camera has two lenses to provide better pictures while the Xiaomi outpaces it with an 8MP camera compared to HTC One M8’s 5MP camera. The launch of Xiaomi’s Mi4 is a wake-up call to all the non-budget brands, Chinese smartphones at the moment are such good value they can give any company in the world a run for their money, you’re getting amazing technology at really low prices. Xiaomi are a powerhouse in the field too, selling over 26 million smartphones this year. They have a target to sell 60 million in 2014, so with the Mi4 they are on course to pull it off. The Mi3 is considered one of the best smartphones around in its category. The Mi4 is long-awaited and the specs have finally been announced, so to see what this new beast has to offer, let’s compare it with the other pretty awesome flagship killer, the OnePlus One. The choice is between David and Goliath, Oneplus have only been in business a short time and their phone is brilliant, but the production has let the side down, with them proving hopeless when it comes to meeting demand.

Display

The Mi4 has a 5 inch IPS display screen featuring 1920 x 1080 resolution, the OnePlus One has a larger display, 5.5 inches making the pixel count a little lower per inch for the OnePlus One. The Mi4 has 441 ppi and the OnePlus One has 401. Definitely a win for the Mi4 in the display department.

Performance

The Mi4, like the OnePlus One, boasts a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, quad-core and one of the best processors available at the moment. The memory is also exactly the same, with both phones having 3GB RAM and being available with both 16GB and 64GB storage memory. It seems as far as the hardware goes there is little to choose between the two flagships. In fact these specs seem to be pretty much standard across all the high-end phones coming out of China at the moment. No bad thing at all, but we’re going to have to look a little more in depth to find significant performance differences between the phones.

Camera

The OnePlus One is slightly inferior in the camera stakes, although both it and the Mi4 share a 13MP rear camera, the Mi4 has an 8MP front shooter whereas the OnePlus One has a 5MP. The picture quality on the Mi4 is better but a 5MP front shooter such as that on the OnePlus is still a good feature, even if it doesn’t match the Mi4.

Battery

The battery is slightly better on the OnePlus One, it has a 3100mAh battery compared to the Mi4s 3080mAh, not a huge difference granted, but anything that counts towards making the phone last all day has got to be a plus.

Operating System/User Interface

Both phones run on Android, but the Mi4 round the MIUI V5 (with the V6 being released in August), the OnePlus runs the CyanogenMod 11S. Both phones offer a capable and customisable user interface that offers a lot. Mostly the choice here is down to personal preference rather than capability.

Verdict:

There isn’t a massive amount to choose between the phones, but the Mi4 is the better phone overall, having a superior display and front camera. Could the price be the decider? Well, the slightly better Mi4 is priced at $322 USD and the OnePlus priced at $299 USD. The thirty dollar difference isn’t enough to keep the race an even one, and your best bet is to go for the Mi4, it has the better specs and the price and at only slightly more expensive than the OnePlus, it just makes sense to get the better phone. I realise that there are a few die-hard OnePlus fans that want it for the design, which is great, and these people are probably going to buy it anyway but if you want the rational choice, get the Mi4.

At yesterday’s launch of the Mi4, Lei Jun boasted the phone’s design. Was he telling the truth?

Lei Jun explained that making a round rear cover can allow the Mi4 to use a more powerful battery and have a camera that barely points out.

The rear cover was manufactured in a 9-step process using IMD technology。 As a result, it is 0.06mm thin. A lot of cell phones follow this kind of design such as the Honor 6.

The Mi4 sports a steel frame but the SIM card holder is made of plastic. The colors are still the same regardless of the material.

The plastic rear board is fastened tightly. We can also see a signal overflow outlet which is connected to the gap between the steel frame and the plastic case to maintain a strong signal.

There is a sticker on the bolted cover that implys that warranty does not apply after the phone is disassembled. But replacing the rear cover with a wooden won’t won’t influence the warranty.

Right now, we are looking at the China Unicom Edition. The 4G edition should go online in September. If the China Mobile 4G edition supports 5 modes, then Xiaomi should make some changes on the 4G Mi4’s antenna design.

The camera’s flash bulb is screwed into the phone’s plastic outer shell. A common industry trick is to put the flash bulb on the mother board or on the rear cover. This is the first time I have seen a flash bulb this big.

The battery was produced very neatly. It uses a SONY chip customized by Feimaotui. It’s glued to the mid frame too strongly.

The power and volume buttons. The texture of the Mi4’s buttons are just as good as the Mi3’s.

The Mi4 sports a 13mp rear-facing camera with a 1.8 aperture. It uses the Sony IMX 214 sensor.

Xiaomi put the antenna, vibrator, microUSB port, microphone, and LED light in a single soft printed circuit board.

The microUSB was made using the 6-pin design.  The standard microUSB port uses a 5-pin design while the Find7, which supports a flash charger, uses the 7-pin design. The Mi4 supports a Qualcomm 9V/1.2A charger.

Lei Jun said that the Mi4 features a glove mode thanks to the ATMEL MXT641T chip, which can prevent any interference caused by wet hands.

Most of the chips on the mother board are covered by protective cases.

The Dongqi 16GB eMMC flash memory card which was manufactured last fourth quarter. It uses 19nm technology and decreases the area by 22%.　Along with the Snapdragon 801, it can read and write at the eMMC5.0 level.

The Qualcomm WCD9320 audio chip. It has all the codecs necessary for music and phone calls.

The Qualcomm WCN3680 WiFi, Blu Ray, FM radio chip. It supports 802.11ac 5GHz WiFi and Blu Ray 4.0 which uses less power.

The Qualcomm WTR1625 chip does not support LTE interent but supports GPS.

Samsung 3GB RAM chip + Qualcomm MSM8X74AC 2.5GHz quad-core processor chipset package. We have previously said that the Mi4 China Unicom Edition does not support LTE internet.

AVAGO ACPM-7600 amplifier.

The Qualcomm PM8941 power management IC which supports QuickCharge2.0. According to Qualcomm, this chip can charge 60% of a 3300mAh battery in just 30 minutes.

The Qualcomm PM8841 power management chip which can be used together with the PM8941.

Infrared transmitter and receiver. Actually infrared was popular in Windows Mobile for a while but became obsolete with the arrival of Blu Ray.

The steel was cut using a 1.35mm CNC cutting process.

The most important part about how the Mi4’s frame was built is that its made of 304 stainless steel. It was made in a 193 step process.

Overall, compared to the iPhone 4s which Lei Jun mentioned as an example, the Mi4’s steel frame is much better.

The injected antenna overflow outlets on the bottom and top of the Mi4 are designed much better than the iPhone 4. In addition, the speakers and micr-USB port are placed in a neat arrangement.

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun disclosed the total sales of Xiaomi phones at the Xiaomi Mi4 launch event.

Lei Jun stated, during the last 3 years since August 16, 2011, Xiaomi released 5 phones, and total  sales reached 57.36million. In the first half year of 2014, Xiaomi had sold out 26.11million cell phones, pre-tax sales reached 330 billion RMB (about 53 billion USD).

Besides, Xiaomi also reported sales of specific cell phone models, statistics are as listed: Xiaomi Mi1 7.9million, Xiaomi Mi2 17.4million, Xiaomi Mi3 10.5million, Xiaomi Redmi 18million, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.56million. By now, the number of active MIUI users has reached 65 million.

At the end of the launch show, Lei Jun said Xiaomi planed to sell 60million at least in 2014.

Today, the much anticipated Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched in Beijing. Here’s a review of Xiaomi’s latest phone.

Boasting top-knotch specs, the Mi 4 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801(MSM8974AC) quad-core processor with a main frequency of 2.5GHz. It has 3GB RAM and 16/64GB internal memory space. It also sports a 5-inch 1080p Sharp and JDI display screen made using OGS architecture and an 8mp/13mp Sony dual-camera. It is powered by a 3080mAh battery that can be fully charged in 2.5 hours. The 16GB edition will be sold for 1999 RMB (322.21 USD) while the 64GB edition will be sold for 2499 RMB (402.81 USD).

Appearance

The Mi 4 supports wet finger recognition and offers a glove mode. It also supports technology that can make sure finger movements on the edge won’t be mistakenly read by the phone.

The MIUI OS

The Mi 4 does not have a lot of new features as it is still using the MIUI V5. The new MIUI V6 OS will be introduced around August. As a result, its OS user experience is similar to that of the Mi 3 with a few changes.

Performance test

At the launch event, Lei Jun was unwilling to talk about how the Mi 4 fared in its benchmark tests. Here’s an evaluation of the phone’s performance.

Actually, the Mi 4 scored pretty high in the Antutu benchmark test with 43607 points. Very few phones are able to score this high. This still does not say anything about actual user experience, but we can say that the Mi 4 probably has the most powerful specs out of all the cell phones out right now.

Camera

The Mi 4 sports a 13mp Sony IMX214 camera which has appeared in many new Chinese phones, so it should not be surprising if the Mi 4 has it. It has 6p lens with a F1.8 aperture. Even more interesting is that it comes with a smart flashlight feature. The Mi 4 can also combine two photos that were quickly taken consecutively in a way that can make them look more realistic.

As you can see from the samples above, the Xiaomi Mi 4 takes very good photos thanks to the Sony IMX214. Furthermore, the phone’s camera benefits from its big F1.8 aperture as the amount of light going in increases a lot. Since we have now familiarized ourselves with this new sensor, it is no surprise that the Xiaomi 4 can take high-quality photos.

Conclusion:

It’s pretty clear that Xiaomi is serious in dispelling the notion that the company does not really care about the outer design of their phones with the release of the Mi 4. Even though the outer design of the Mi 4 is not as pretty as phones that are known to have beautiful designs, this is Xiaomi’s most good-looking phone to date. Its specs are also nothing to make fun of. It’s easy to see how much effort Xiaomi has put on their newest phone’s hardware and appearance. However, Xiaomi’s main competitive strength still lies in their MIUI system. When the Mi 4’s OS is upgraded to the MIUI V6, then it will be a force to be reckoned with.

Xiaomi’s annual product launch event will be on tomorrow. This is usually the time to keep secret. However, people leaked Xiaomi Mi4’s posters in Weibo. Xiaomi Mi4 have two color schemes, black and white. The material used in its metal frame, so-called 304 austenitic stainless steel, looks remarkable.

July 4^th, Xiaomi smart bracelet’s Weibo account showed up on wechat public platform, which had been recognized with authentication information as “this account is supported by Xiaomi Technology Limited Liability Company”. Redmi 4G and Redmi NOTE 4G

The day before yesterday, two new models of Hongmi Note 4G 2014501 and 2014022 acquired network access permits in China;  These two cell phone models just appeared on MIIT’s website today. From the pictures, it may be two derivatives of Hongmi and Hongmi NOTE.

 Both the devices support China Mobile4G network (TD-LTE) and will come into public on July 22nd.

MIUI V6

According to exposed MIUI V6 OS, the new MIUI will change its color of theme when running different apps. With time display on left side, some changes will be taken on in the whole design. MIMU V5’s inability in optimization when running on large screens caused public complaint of MI3. It is believed that MIUI V6 will do some optimization accordingly.

1 The  Metal Mi-4: Type 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel

When Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun claimed that MI4 would use a kind of special metal on the body, but he did not know that would became a hotly debated topic on Weibo, that people are guessing what kind of metal that is.

2 Mi4’s First Look

There’s a few leaks about MI4’s appearance. It seems Xiaomi did a good secrecy job. As far as I’m concerned, this time, Xiaomi will take on a brand-new look.

3 Xiaomi Mi4’s Specs 

MI4’s specs remain mystery. Deferred from the slogan “Born for You, Burn for MI”, MI4 will be powered with Snapdragon 805 processor, 5-inch 1080p screen, 3GB RAM+32GB ROM. The  500 mega pixels front camera and 1300 mega pixels back camera. As for the price tag, it will certainly be 1999 Yuan($341).

Xiaomi will hold its press conference in Beijing National Convention Center to unveil Xiaomi Mi4 at 22nd July. Most of the rumors said Xiaomi will release 4 products in the press conference, Xiaomi Bracelet, Xiaomi Mi4, Hongmi Note 4G and MIUI V6. Xiaomi had showed the Xiaomi Bracelet on it’s Weibo, and the other 3 new models as “2014215”, “2014022” and “2014501” have appeared in the National Quality Certification Center. Former two support 4G network, the latter only supports China Unicom 3G network.

Now, “2014501” and “2014022” both 4G models have appeared in MIIT. As described in the Ministry of the page, the former model is manufactured at Jiaxing, Zhejiang, while the latter model is manufactured  at Langfang, Hebei. Accoding to Xiaomi’s supply chain, we think the former manufacturers should be Wingtech communications, Inc., the latter is Foxconn.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi’s real pictures has not appeared on MII. But we can see that the former manufacturers used to manufacture Hongmi, the latter used to manufacture Xiaomi. According to the consumption, we think 2,014,501 should be Hongmi Note 4G while 2,014,022 should be Xiaomi Mi4. Both of them support TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA/GSM, but not WCDMA and LTE FDD. We believe they should be a tri-mode mobile version product. If all goes to plan, barring any unforeseen circumstance, there will be 4G version in the near future. But the China Mobile versions will be released first.

They say Xiaomi will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor (reportedly Xiaomi have not done MT6595 octa-core LTE models temporarily) in Hongmi Note 4G. On other specs might improve a bit compared to the older version.

While the Mi4 has 5-inch 1080p touch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB ROM, a 8 MP front camera and a 13 MP rear camera runing MIUI V6!

A week before the product launch, details about MI 4 continues to be exposed. @C Technology just reveals in Weibo, that MI 4 will be integrated with fingerprint identification function, which in design works by sensing a finger’s touch (not by sensing a finger’s movement, which is used in Galaxy S5). It can go into different functions according to gathered fingerprint information, entering main interface by default.

Nevertheless, the question is where the fingerprint identification function will be placed in Xiaomi Mi4?

As is disclosed in previous spy photos (relatively with a high liability), MI 4 has a mainstream design, that is a front-panel display with 3 navigation bottoms below. There is no indication that MI 4 is able to carry the fingerprint identification function. However, what if such function is to be designed at on the backside? Lenovo Octa-core Golden Warrior

The Golden Warrior is a monster smartphone at a crazy price, it was announced last week that will hit availability status on the 18th of July, but before that at 10am on the 14th of July it will be available on the Chinese social network site Weibo at a discount purchase price. The phone really is unbelievable value, the octa-core Mediatek MT6592 processor, 5 inch display and 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage memory, the rear camera is a is 13MP with LED flash, and the front shooter is 5MP. The RRP is a staggeringly low $129 from China Mobiles and $145 from China Unicom.

Xiaomi Mi4

Xiaomi is also expected to launch a new handset on the 22nd July.  Today Bin Lin posted an image on his facebook page of the number 4. The post says “July 22nd, Xiaomi’s annual product launch event. We will tell the story about The journey of a piece of steel metal.” It was then shared on Xiaomi’s timeline with the announcement that “something big is brewing…mark your calendars for July 22nd”.

The announcement, intriguing as it may be, is most likely the announcement of the Mi4 smartphone. The new phone is said to have a 13 MP camera (according to photos supposedly taken with it). There is another post which states that the Mi4 will be available further afield in countries such as  the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey, Thailand, and India.”

The Mi4 is expected to retail at $599.99, and have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 AC processor, running at 2.46GHz. There is also rumoured specifications of 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM and an excellent 8MP front facing camera. We can only wait and see on for certain on July 22nd.
