While we still haven’t got a release date, rumors state that the launch could be anytime around the end of July or August this year. The company’s top-end flagship that should meet us soon will be none other than the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and it looks like the lower end version of the Mi Note 2 or the Mi5S has just been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark.

A new model called Xiaomi Capricorn was found on the Geekbench test results page a few days back. The listing reveals that the phone will come with the Snapdragon 820 chipset (MSM8996) clocked at 2Ghz with 3GB RAM and Android 6.0.1 version. This isn’t exactly top-end hardware for a flagship device, so it’s either a test device or the base / low-end variant of the Mi Note 2 / Mi5S. The reason why we say this is a Mi device is because Xiaomi has a tradition of naming their flagship models with zodiac signs. In case you are wondering, here are the different code names for the Xiaomi Mi phones that have been announced till now.

Xiaomi Mi2/S = Aries

Xiaomi Mi2A = Taurus

Xiaomi Mi3 (TD-SCDMA) = Pisces

Xiaomi Mi3/4 = Cancro

Xiaomi Mi Note = Virgo

Xiaomi Mi4C = Libra

Xiaomi Mi5 = Gemini

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 / Mi5S = Capricorn??

So, Xiaomi Capricorn definitely hints that this is a Mi device and not a Redmi model (Xiaomi uses popular fashion brand names such as dior, gucci for Redmi models). So, it’s a matter of whether it’s the new Xiaomi Mi Note 2 or the Mi5S. The scores on the benchmark are quite decent for a flagship model. It scored 2335 in the single-core test and 5659 in the multi-core test.

RELATED: Metal Xiaomi Phone With Dual Cameras Spotted, Could Be Redmi Note 4

We are not quite sure of the release date of the new Xiaomi devices, but expect them to be in the coming weeks. There have been rumors about a release on July 25, but till now, we haven’t got any confirmation from the company.

Both these handsets are expected to be released in the second half of the year, which means their launch could be anytime soon. Looks like the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 would be the first one to meet us this year as Xiaomi released a new teaser earlier today, and from the image, it could be hinting at the upcoming smartphone.

As you can see in the image above, the new teaser says 2>5. Well, we know Xiaomi has the Mi5 flagship in the market and then there’s the Mi Note 2 that’s coming soon. Considering this information, it looks like the company is teasing that the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is better than the Mi5. But that would mean that the company is degrading its own flagship Mi5, which doesn’t make sense. So, what Xiaomi might actually be trying to say here is that the Mi Note 2 is going to be much bigger than the Mi5. Well this, we knew from the start as this year’s Mi Note 2 is also expected to come with a 5.7-inch display as its predecessor. On the other hand, the Mi5 is much more compact, featuring a 5.15-inch display.

As for the variants of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, it is said there will be at least three models in the lineup. In fact, one of these models is even expected to come with a curved-edged display, which won’t be surprising given that we have been hearing about this version for the past few weeks. What’s more, there are even talks about dual cameras at the back and pressure sensitive display that’s better than Huawei’s Force Touch.

The top-end variants of the Mi Note 2 should retail for more than 4000 Yuan ($600) considering the recent comments by the company co-founder.

From the numerous leaks and rumors that have been cropping up online in the past few weeks, it looks like Xiaomi is all set to announce not one, but two new flagship models in the second half of the year, namely the Xiaomi Mi5S, which will be an upgraded version of the Mi5 and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the long anticipated successor to the Mi Note series phablets that were announced back in January last year. Now, more details about these two devices have just come up online.

According to an insider, the Xiaomi Mi5S as well as the Mi Note 2 will come with pressure sensitive displays. However, the source says that the technology inside Xiaomi’s new phones will be much better than the ones seen on Huawei and rumored on Meizu. So, we can expect some advanced pressure based touch functions on the new devices.

While Huawei was one of the first smartphone companies to release Force Touch enabled smartphone (Huawei Mate S), the touch based features of the device utilizing the new technology were limited. In fact, Apple’s 3D Touch was considered much better than the pressure sensitive technology used by other Android manufacturers like Huawei. So, it is exciting to hear that Xiaomi’s pressure sensitive display will be much better than Huawei or Meizu. In fact, even Huawei is expected to release a much better version of its Force Touch technology in new Mate series model, most likely called as the Mate S2.

Back in April, the same insider, Mocha RQ had revealed a few details about these two phones. The Xiaomi Mi5S is said to come with the same screen size and resolution as the Mi5, but there will be upgrades like pressure sensitive display and Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Like the earlier rumors have said, there is even a possibility of dual cameras ending up on this device. As for the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the flagship

RELATED: Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to come in three variants, including one with curved edged display

As for the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the flagship, the phone is expected to feature a 5.7-inch FHD 1080p display with Snapdragon 820 inside. This information was revealed back in April, and recent rumors have pointed out that the Mi Note 2 could end up with a better chip, the Snapdragon 821. Even this phone is said to come with pressure sensitive display and Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, along with a Ceramic body. We know Xiaomi has had issues with the mass production of ceramic Xiaomi Mi5, so we are not quite sure whether the company would consider a ceramic body for one of the most important flagships of the second half of 2016.

These phones are rumored to launch in August 2016, which is just a month away. If true, then we should hear more about them in the next few days.

Yes, it is reportedly going to be a flagship smartphone coming with top-end specs. The weibo source revealed that the new Mi5S is going to come with powerful specifications. Well, the name sort of revealed that the phone was going to be a flagship, since the Mi5S should be an in between update, in terms of specs, to the already powerful Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone. The source also says that the Mi Note 2 will come with dual cameras. Also, the Xiaomi Notebook is in the works as well (but we already know this!).

It is said that the phone could come with a metal body, much like its upcoming brother, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Further, the Xiaomi Mi5S will reportedly feature pressure sensitive display — which will be a first for Xiaomi, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm and dual cameras. As for the display and resolution, it is said that they will be on the same level as the Mi5, which means it should be a 5.15-inch panel with 1080p resolution. Further, as the source above claims that this is a top-end flagship, expect nothing less than 6GB RAM inside.

This does confuse us a bit, in terms of the placement of the two upcoming models. The Mi Note 2, like we reported today is expected to come in three variants! All featuring high-end hardware. If the Mi5S is also going to come with top-end hardware, one of the major differentiating features would be the display size, with the Mi Note 2 sporting a 5.7-inch screen while the Mi5S coming with a 5-inch display.

Of course, at this moment, nothing can be confirmed. But hopefully, things will start to clear up in the next few weeks.
